This obscure group consisted of brothers Ardie Westdijk (keyboards, backing vocals) and Arjen Westdijk (guitars, vocals), and they were accompanied by drummer Gerard Lock and bassist Aad Van Der Valk.Their debut "The voyage" was recorded at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum with experienced producer and period biker Pieter Nieboer, known for his work on several Exeption albums. The album was originally released in 1985 on the vinyl of the little-known frizz bee label, re-released in 1991 on SI.The differences stand right on the fine line between the pale Symphonic Rock Stylings of the '70s and the new Neo Prog trends of the '80s, slightly tilting to the first style. 75'-77' GENESIS seems to be their strongest influence with a bit of teutonic second-wave aura in a process similar to ANYONE's daughter and ROUSSEAU and, of course, some reasonable MARLLION echoes in haunting moments. The music, however, is mostly soft, performed rather in a romantic symphonic style, with smooth guitar melodies and atmospheric synthesizers. The guitar work contains many quivering techniques by STEVE HACKETT, but also some convincing camel/anyone's daughters similar to solos with deep melodic content. The songs are quite long and the arrangements are quite beautiful, even if differences avoid any serious interplays and focus on asthmospheric, elaborate compositions with lyrical and instrumental diversity. Most songs seem to require a dash of greater energy, but that will come with the emphatic epic "Melody," which runs for 17 minutes, and offers a very British Progressive Rock with heavy MARILLION overtones in keyboard passages and again some impressive GENESIS orientations in symphonic textures. An absolutely brilliant and well-composed piece of classic Prog. We're talking about 1985. I admire all these bands trying to keep the prog spirit alive in the middle of their less productive period. Beautiful neo/symphonic forecast of a Dutch school influenced by GENESIS, highlighted by a beautiful epic poem. Highly recommended. Z vaS vas.......Zivanovic&Ladislav.............
