Holy shit. I didn't expect a story about YTP to be so poweful.

16:45 dear God did this speak to me. For 5 years, 5 fucking years, from ages 12 to 17, I had been with a group of friends online. They were really my only REAL friends who knew the REAL me. For 5 years, I wanted to be respected by them so badly. But eventually, maybe I just got older or something, I just stared at a few messages and realized “wow, I hate almost every single one of these people.” They were boring, they talked about nothing, they were so insanely violent to any opposition to their group think to the point where they nit picked everything about everyone, and most of all, they never respected me. Even though I had hung around them and talked with them and played games with them for every single night, they never ever reciprocated any of it. They never made me think “wow, this person is my friend”. It was always a minefield around them. So,eventually I just left. I didn’t say goodbye, I didn’t have some big “FUCK YOU!!” moment, I just left. By the end of my time there, I realized that it was just 3 guys left. We went from around 10 closely knit friends, to 3. And everyday, it was relentlessly boring. And through all of it, no respect, I never ever was shown respect, and you know what, I’m glad I never got it because that’d mean I would have been in their level. You can be the sweetest peach on the peach tree, but some people don’t like peaches. So, I went in alone and came out alone. While I’m glad I was able to go through it, for better or worse, I’ll never forget them.

YTP has become kind of exhausting. I'm fortunate enough to have made great friends through my collabs, but the infighting and elitism within the community, coupled with my stressful life making it harder to spark the kind of creativity needed to make YTP, has made it really difficult to keep making them consistently. I don't intend on quitting and I don't think I'll ever truly be done with them, but their current scarcity on my channel has made me feel a bit guilty. Am I betraying my original audience? Will people call me a sellout?


Then I remember that, like you, I also never intended to get popular making YTPs. I never even intended to get popular with media analysis videos. I just made the kind of content I felt passionate about making, and that's true to this day. If people don't like it, or they can't accept that my passion now lies with a different type of content, it's not really my concern.

How does one "sell out" with making YTP? Did these people genuinely believe that it's some form of high art?

Imagine the shitstorm of backlash that emp would have gotten back then if people had found out about his real age.

YouChew is a forum of posh hipsters who expect everyone to make the same style of video and follow the safe kind of humor. Seriously, you'd think that a website dedicated to making funny internet videos would enjoy varied styles of humor and editing techniques, but nope they are just a bunch of envious losers.

I doubt you'll read this, but I would just like to share my thoughts anyway. A few weeks ago I was trying to cheer myself up by cruising through some old-school vines and I stumbled across your video: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. It's possible that Pulp Fiction being my favorite movie made me prejudice, but I am not exaggerating when I say it was the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. At the time I had never even heard of a YouTube Poop. I did not know any of the backstory, the origin/context of "downward spiral' or anything but the memes. I went on to watch a bunch of your "complaining videos," all of which I enjoyed thoroughly, but it all left me thirsting. I eventually found a couple of your videos about YTP and watched Internet Historian's video about YTP and I came back to your channel. I proceeded to watch every single YTP that was available in the playlist on your channel. I legit could not walk the next day because my abs were so sore from laughing. I'm not making this shit up.
Moving right along, I began searching for other YTP with a thirst, but nobody produced consistently well-made and funny material. Most videos just lacked... something. When I ended up back at your channel I started with the oldest video and worked my way on through to the newer ones. Where not every poop was equal even for you, I noticed that they got consistently funnier as time went by. Eventually it came to a meme-gasmic dank-max with ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I saw you hadn't produced more than a couple poops since then, and It was at this point that I found this video: Frying Comments. It left me feeling like I had just watched Batman give up on being Batman.
The point I'm trying to make here is that I believe your video editing quality/skill, your panache, and your seemingly infinite pool of extra-salty rage combine to form the greatest content to ever grace this platform. It is my opinion that the highest form of poop is clearly that of a rant/shitpost, as exemplified by your previously mentioned, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH poop. I know this is a selfish request, but if you could find it in your heart to make some more of these rage-poops at some point in the future, I would be eternally grateful.

EDIT/PS: Metallica lost a lot of fans because of their "overly long" songs, but in the end we all found that the real fans were the ones who came for those "overly long" songs.

Uploads a YTP two weeks later

So, you asked if we had some stories on YouTube Poopers we used to know going through similar shit that's happened to them over their careers and...well, I've got two actually. And weirdly enough, neither of which I found nor followed because of their YouTube Poops. This comment might be a month late, but I still hope that if you take some time to read this, it might help to give a bit of perspective from someone on the outside looking in who lurked/casually followed these two and their content.

The first channel was actually one of the people you shouted out in the video: cartoonlover98, otherwise known as SomeDoodNamedJack/MadJackRabbit, and creator of "You're a Sad, Strange Little Man". He's now considered by many as one of the people whom "abandoned" YTP in favor of other pursuits to try and gain some sort of fame and branch out to other mediums, after he had felt that not only did he lack the passion for YouTube Poop, but that his real love lie in making art. Granted he did this through a solemn update video rather than the more poignant and "aggressive" way you ended up going out, but even despite putting it as politely as possible, and even despite him uploading and working on animations (storyboarding, hiring voice actors, scripting, the whole she-bang) for his own cartoon, people were vehemently harsh to him in some misguided attempt to try and force him back into making something he started to absolutely fucking despise as more people kept pestering him about YTP and telling him to continue to make his shit more edgy (and stop with his terrible cartoons), until eventually he just stopped making content altogether (save for just shitposting and doing character commissions on Twitter) and completely wiped the series off the map after having hated what he'd produced. That was the first time in a long time that the YTP community had me taken aback in how relentless they were.

The other person to be on the brunt end of that was MoBrosStudios, albeit his was two-fold (on top of having incredibly high expectations due to being the creator of Skellington's Revenge): the first part was when he branched off into making a single review video of The Top 10 Worst SpongeBob Episodes, back when that was still a thing. This sent a tidal wave of people after him either questioning where the hell his YTPs were and quickly calling him a "NC ripoff/sellout", or when he'd continue to review SpongeBob Episodes because "he promised he would", which lead him to getting furious at his audience and lashing out to everyone and eventually abandoning the channel altogether. This led him into a severe depression (on top of a death of his dad) that he's still combating in private to this day, though he seems to be in much brighter spirits. And while, after fulfilling that promised video seven years later on his new channel "anim8ball", finally satiating that remaining audience's want for that style of content...sadly the YTP community was relentless, essentially making him realize that despite his 3D animation passion...he'd always be MoBrosStudios and set to making YTPs...by making a trailer for one, recognizing the death of another famous creator in the community. And that was it. The community had to drag him back over there but in the end, he still wants to continue as "anim8ball" and not "MoBrosStudios", and he lost the drive to finish the Poop as of now.

Of course, this is just from what I've seen as a viewer/what they've said to us who've watched their content; it could be a much different story behind-the-scenes, but regardless: I guess if there's a takeaway to any of this, it's that...no, you're not necessarily alone in feeling bitter towards YTP/popularity, wishing for days in obscurity, knowing that you can never go back. Or that even if you did, you'll never truly be able to regain that admiration or clout you once had, because it seems many YTPers/creators have moved on to bigger and better things, be it due to passion and/or in spite of their audience.

And it honestly kinda sucks no matter what way you slice it and no matter what perspective you come at this from, but that's the Internet for ya. Sometimes you just have to roll with things, and hope that maybe one day, things might turn around in the end.

After seeing this video, I can not stop imagining a distant future where a young youtuber makes a video called "There will never ever be another youtuber like EmpLemon"

You defined my childhood for a brief period, and I know that sounds ridiculous but hear me out.

Back in the good old days when my mates and I were around 13 - 14, we saw your Uncredibles video, and instantly got hooked, then we watched all your other videos, and moved onto other YouTube's for more YTP content, but we always came back to you.

Your funny videos defined the next 2 years of "Hanging with the boys", every time we met up, my best mate and I learnt how to edit videos through months of trial and error, just to make a YTP that we found funny, it started with editing "Thomas the tank engine" episodes, and "Old Spice" commercial, on top of other commercials of cars we didn't like, and to be fair, we got pretty good at it.

We never uploaded these videos to YouTube, because for us it was just about the laughs, I think I've still got the old hard drive with all the old videos from years ago, it went from shitty editing and sound dubbing "Chadwarden" onto every sentence that might work with it, to complex inside jokes and social commentary within those YTP's we made.

Anyway I'm going on for too long, but just know this...

You made life just that little bit better for us, and we thank you.

Honestly, I think that Emplemon is one of the best storytellers on YouTube, up there with people like Jon Bois. He has this way to stress the importance of the the events he talks about that is truly special.

I used to be a semi-popular (at the time) YTP'er on my alternate channel who made a bunch of poops with JonTron, and I remember doing it back in the day as a high-schooler just wanting to do something to make some people on the internet have a laugh. I never took down any of my stuff, its still sitting there. Last I checked, my most popular poop (JonTron Sells you PokeShit) is sitting at over 300k views.

I was in the exact same boat as you, I never did it for the fame or popularity, but it was just a passion project that I eventually lost. Whilst I never got the disdain that you ended up growing for your poops, (for reasons I never understood) after a while the passion was lost because it was just becoming a giant mess of people trying to become the top guy in the scene, and I grew tired of wanting to compete in such a market. Especially when I was seeing how some of them were beginning to build egos that made them rather unlikable.

I too was a YouChew lurker (and a member, because they did actually send me a confirmation email), and I can remember some days logging in and seeing some of my work near the Top featured lists. At the time it felt like this amazing rush, but looking back at it, if I had kept going and was more regular at making content, I suspect I would've grown the same sort of scrutiny, just from the part of the community that was more into the kind of stuff I was "pooping".

I remember taking quite a bit of a break, before making one last JonTron YTP around 2016 or so, and by then the ship had already sailed. (JonTron's Dick Hunting Challenge, which only sits at about 17k views.) Nowadays, I don't even know who are the regulars anymore, but I can only imagine they have gone through atleast some portion of hatred. It just seems to become the popular trend; When you become the figurehead, you become the targeted.

To date I don't think I'll ever go back, despite aborted attempts at doing so.

You have clearly worked hard to build what you have now and I find that the content you produce nowadays (notably the "Never Ever" series) is amongst some of your greatest work. You deserve to have some sort of success, and hopefully in a way, you as a person are able to look back at everything and realize that despite the hardships, it was all worth it.

I know you’re never gonna read this comment in a thousand years but, I really think it’s a shame this video didn’t perform as well as many others. I come back here a lot because it is hands down one of my favorite videos on YouTube. Some of your other videos, maybe all of the Never Ever series, are probably objectively better; but there’s something about this video that feels so viscerally real. It reminds me of why I love YouTube and what makes it so interesting to begin with. This is like the exact opposite of boring manufactured drama that you can find almost anywhere on YouTube anymore. It’s not really a video about a comment, but a video about a person and their struggle to be respected. The comment at the focal point ends up serving as a great narrative device and ultimately makes this video feel so unusually authentic. You really could have just ignored it; many people would suggest that’s the best course of action. But, I think we’re all glad you didn’t. I don’t really have any amazing philosophical conclusion or anything, I’m just some dumbass online, but I just wanted to say thanks. I’ve watched this video probably tens of times all the way through and I’ll probably never view you or YTP quite the same again.

Am I the only one who thinks the YTP news business sounds way too much like drama alert, even in concept alone?

Watching this video and seeing the one you've made on Hungrybox really puts a lot of stuff into perspective especially with the parallels you can draw between the two of you. I think it's poetic a video you made dedicated to the struggles Hungrybox had to endure in his own community is currently, as of now, your top most viewed video on this channel. I'm too fucking lazy to really detail all the stuff I've noticed, but I think the way the both of you really endured and used that negative energy to really push forward refine yourselves into better selves is genuinely inspiring.

Hey Emp, I just want to say that irrespective of how I felt about your YTPs back then, there's no denial that you're a talented editor with a gift for storytelling. I've been watching some of your commentary videos, like the Never Ever episode on SpongeBob, and honestly it's rare that opinion pieces sustain my interest for as long as 26 minutes. I mean it's not just the editing (and there's some really brilliant stuff -- like the grid of the entirety of the first 3 seasons' intro cards at 1:11) , but the manner of your delivery and the depth of your insights that make the videos so interesting to watch. Honestly man, the delivery of the ending had me in chills (and that's kinda weird to say about a video about SpongeBob lol). Also for the record, I really appreciate the work you've done documenting YTP's history in the past few years. Honestly, I think everyone in the YTP community owes you a debt of gratitude for these videos because they've sort of helped validate YTP as the important cultural phenomenon that it is. Like that SantaWithTeeth tribute you made in 2015 for instance, I don't think anyone else other than you would've had the motivation to go that far to help preserve the history of his channel, and also tell it as well as you did. So yeah, even if you continued making YTPs to this day in the style of Spinge Bulb I don't think it would've been nearly as important or fullfilling as the stuff you currently do now. I'm sorry for the unnecessarily harsh criticisms I leveled back in 2014. But honestly considering how far your channel has come in recent years, I have to wonder if this is not another instance of something I've been thinking about lately -- that rejection is merely redirection towards something better in life. Perhaps then it was necessary for you to plummet down the spiral in order to ascend. (God that was cheesy). Anyway. Best of luck with the rest of college, and with the future of this channel. Looking back on everything, I'm glad I stayed. Yes, I absolutely loved your YTPs. Your YTPs made me laugh harder than anything I had ever seen on the internet at the time, and I was saddened when I realized you wouldn't be making them anymore. I had wondered whether you were going to be making anymore videos at all, and then you made complaint videos. You might not have liked them, but they have value in their own right being valid criticism of things that most people seemed to have overlooked. Then you started making documentaries; damn good ones too. And thanks to that, you've come full circle as a YouTuber and have utilized your talents to make something original and different in its own right. That's pretty fucking impressive. You've not only turned your channel into something special and unique that stands out, you recovered from a downward spiral that most other YouTubers never would've come back from in the first place.

This was an interesting video for me to watch. Back when I made YTPs I always saw you as one of the great poopers to laugh and learn from and waited forever for each Frying Nemo. In fact, in a way you even affect me to this day. I remember when I applied to The SpingeBill Collection 2 and didn't make it in I was disappointed, but ready to learn and become a better pooper. Then when the SpingeBill Send-Off Collab came out I worked my ass off and was so proud to make it in. What does this have to do with you though?


When Weesloo left a comment on my video that EmperorLemon, coolcat, cartoonlover and SinnedTragedy all watched and enjoyed my video I felt like I was at the highlight of my "career". Just a few days ago I left an incredibly toxic comment on a YT channel that brings me lots of positivity. I've been a depressed asshole lately was probably in a horrible mood when I wrote it, It was calling out how "bad" the particular episdoe was and even making fun of viewers who appeared on it.

Not only did one of the featured viewers comment and "thank" me for my input, but someone else who I respected told me I was genuinely mean spirited. I made the comment not even really thinking that others would read it, and when I saw the feed back and response I felt so horrible that I deleted the entire account and made this new one. Its almost a week later and the fact that I actually wrote something so nasty about something that should be positive, still hurts me.

My POINT is, if you see a mega asshole comment, it's probably just someone feeling like a mega asshole and you shouldn't take it to seriously. I'm writing this because I heavily identified with that dude who completely broke down your channel and then felt bad for it later. Your allowed to act however you want on the internet. But it probably is better if we all kept our negative thoughts to ourselves. Btw, this video was great 👍

This may be a year late and will never been seen by emp but i love your content and you are probably my favorite creator because youre one of the most real people on this site. You dont care about subs you only care for the respect that people give you. This may mean nothing coming from a man who writes music and just speedruns random games but i respect you and your journey of doing what you love. Creators need to do what you do just create content they love and just forget about the numbers only focus on the ones that watch you because they like your content.

YTP community was so elitist back in that Youchew hayday. Even I was in on that bullshit mentality train and I regret it all the time. I'm hoping that shit has dissipated by this point. I'm not really involved at all anymore minus the folks who were in those initial Skype chats 1,000 years ago but like hoooooooooooooly shit I remember the amount of pettiness and elitism back then ESPECIALLY in the old tennis community. I had a death in the family and had to drop out of a match and they wrote a Chewiki article about how bad my entry was and how I haphazardly left or whatever. Godspeed, Lemon

I'm glad I stuck with you, emp. I can fondly remember waiting for your ytps, then later sharing my frustration with your fanbase during the frying dory incident. This is one of my favorite channels. One of the few that excite me when a new video is released. I'm newer to the channel, so all the drama is news to me, but thanks for your work.

This reminded me of my time working at a place. I struggled and this reminded me so much of my time in development hell. Emplemon is a outsider who made me escape my nightmares with my life in development and made me find the underground internet.

I've been subscribed since Frying Nemo and I still love Emp's content to this day, even if it isn't YTPs anymore.

It's very interesting you take your editing and stylize it in a manic fashion. I like how more toned down it is in this video. Keeping it informative yet not so overdone.

As someone a lurker of the original ytp community, it's interesting how entitled these people could get over their hobby imo. It was like, completely missed to me.

We respect you, and will continue to watch. But I genuinely want you to make the content that YOU want to make. Burning yourself out for others' enjoyment isn't healthy for anyone. Maybe it's just because I like both YTP and commentary but I've always thought you've done both at a higher level of quality than many other channels in those genres. I certainly appreciate the editing chops and non-standard style you've kept from the old YTP days (i.e. this video ends with a meme that cuts off abrubtly rather than a standard outro/end slate). Keep doing what you want to do.

This video alone makes the leafy one feel more...personal I guess you can say. Like, it felt like that small segment of you describing how we all could relate to Leafy had a lot more than what we believed or thought of, not just about you, but about everyone. A story of a passtime or hobby we enjoy casually getting invaded by something or someone and our first response to this invasion is always to fight it out and hope to win or flee rather than trying to calm down and thinking about it slowly or rationally cause we're all young and can't keep up with how fast things out of our control is going by for us. It's honestly sad perspective especially when these stories usually involve true characters being revealed, bridges being burned, and even at times, a good guy/bad guy arc where everyone piles up on one dude til he gives or dies which shit kinda sucks. I would've never guessed purposely bad edits of TV shows, movies, and games for the sake of comedy could have this kind of social ladder and plots to them, but I guess at some point in time, our love for the things we do and enjoy will be tested, even if one of those enjoyments is making fun of people online.

Maaaaaan, I WISH I had enough time to make a single video on YouTube. I've been on this website since, like, 2011 or so, and so far I feel so in this community. The drama, the ups and downs of various channels, I feel so amazed by every single one, especially local animators and YTPoopers. I really want to give back and to entertain people as much as all of you did when I really needed that. Just.. the lack of time... Anyway, thanks for being with me, EmpLemon (and all of YouTube in general), I am in love with this community firstly because of how entertaining your edits and videos are <3

I never was into YTPs, but I had no idea that in that community, there was any "right way" to do a YTP (where you wouldn't be negatively criticized). YTPs are so chaotic, can there even be a right or wrong way?

(Though I don't do that anymore because I've ran out of content, all I make is shitposts every few months)
But I always never understood the hate that came out from the audience. Really does suck.

I often lament the state of the YTP community. It's become an endless race to the top fighting for subscribers and views, while frail ego's fracture like the shell of an egg when they realize they can't compete. Frankly, feeling any compulsion to compete in these videos is already a mistake!

Well dude,being honest I’ve always liked your style and you’re one of the people that brought me back to liking ytp again! Funny enough when I went to uni in Florida I did want to hit you up and meet one of my “heroes”,but was too nervous to. Me personally I’ve always loved your content (sometimes the more edgy content made me worry if you were okay or not though),and I think you have your own style which is honestly better lol.

I love how he used that which was once hurled at him, as an insult (downward spiral, that is) and changed it into what is essentially the main emblem of his channel (other than ackbar, of course.)

As someone who used to make YTPs and know pretty much everyone mentioned here, this was a fascinating trip down memory lane and I really enjoyed hearing your take on it years later. I remember watching your stuff when you made YTPs and it's been really cool to see how your content has evolved since then. Love your stuff Emp, keep up the quality content!

I've just recently discovered your channel and having zero knowledge of YTP or all your community involvement I'm glad to see where you've come out. You ability to story tell and bring historical insight into anything and everything is honestly a gift. People say don't look back, but I'm glad you're smart and mature enough to analyze even that. I hope you current content style brings you even higher in YT subs, god bless man

As someone who used to make YTPs (some on older accounts before Google Plus came), I never really felt the sense that people who enjoyed YTPs were a "community." I started out with Windows Movie Maker on an old account in 2008 and made WMM poops until 2010. I got Sony Vegas in 2016 and made YTPs with my last one being in the Summer of 2018. Both times, the comments were filled pretty mundane stuff like "funny haha" or "nice." I always assumed it was just random people liking random videos made by random people who uploaded these random videos for reasons that always came down to "just for fun." I never thought back in the day people would form a community around YTPs, and for the longest time, I always stood by that initial thought. But, of course, after seeing this, my initial thought was diminished. Looking back, I am kinda glad I didn't make YouTube Poops during the height of Youchew, and I am sad to see how they treated not only you but other content creators and the medium that was making YouTube Poops as a whole.

As for the state of YouTube Poops, I believe they're seeing their days numbered. My friends still like them, but after editing YTPs for years, they'll never be the same as they were in 2009 through 2014 (a golden age in my opinion). Watching YTPs in 2019 is like smoking a cigarette for the millionth time. You got a kick out of it the first couple of times but now you just cough. As you mentioned in your Leafy video, people who ride a dying medium either have to change up their style in order to keep going or ride it out into the sunset. Honestly, the switch you made probably was one of the best decisions I've seen on this platform. If you would've stuck to YTPs up until this point, I probably would've unsubbed and this channel would probably still be under 300,000 subscribers. I never knew you would to turn out to be an informative and talented storyteller.

There's not many YouTubers that are honest nowadays. Several channels that I used to like are now pumping out click-baity, repetitive, and nonsensical garbage just so they can get by. To turn a negative into a positive, I am glad to be stuck with a channel like yours. You're talented, honest, and most importantly, respectable. I know you've had moments where you didn't adhere to any of those traits, but you're way more consistent in those traits then a lot of other content creators. I've seen channels small and large fall from grace because they didn't do one single important thing; Practice humility. Even in a video talking about yourself, you managed to humble yourself and understand other people's positions. You didn't come off as arrogant, entitled, or narcissistic, but only as a regular man who wanted decency. No matter what direction the channel goes in, you have my respect. Godspeed, EmpLemon.

It's sad that the repeated assaults on your confidence and talent have been so commonplace over the years but if there's any one singular piece of gold to glean from such a situation, it's that you transitioned to making content you clearly care so much about.

Emp, I don't know if you'll ever even see this comment. I hope you do, but I highly doubt you will, as you seem like a pretty busy guy. I loved your content back when you were a Pooper. I love your content now, and while YTP has the capability to showcase real creativity, the amount of expertise and finesse you have with explaining nuanced historical topics is bar none some of the most engaging I've ever had the good fortune of watching on the internet. The undeserved wrath of so many people served as your Terrence Fletcher, something I think was succinctly illustrated in the Sympathy for the Villain (which I might add is one of my favorite pieces of media period)

I'm grateful that you are where you are now, because you handcraft genius content that's both educational to some extent (especially in the context of someone like me who is a storywriter, I glean a lot of insight from your expressive ideas when you talk about philosophies surrounding characters, be they real or fictional) and also entertaining as hell.

Every video you create is concise, to the point, but inspiring. You have a clear knack for storytelling, and recounting events. I only lament that there aren't as many YouTubers that are as good as you. I guess they all have their Downward Spirals to go through first before they can be so great.

I hope you hit 1M subs soon. I've never seen someone who deserved it so much.

At this point, i don't think we need a new YTP from you anymore, your videos already have YTP style editing, add to that your insightful commentary and we've got something even more special.

I think a perfect line that sort of summates this behavior of trashing on the popular person is 'most loved, therefore most hated', which I remember hearing from Death Grip's 'Hacker'.


It's sort of the hipster mentality when it comes to their favorite thing becoming popular, either by a result of the artist changing their sound or by circumstances beyond their control. Regardless of how, it always seems the moment everyone can dip their finger in the punch of their special something, that's when instead of embracing the boon of audiences who appreciate the punch, they lash out at the punch instead, discredit it in anyway they so see fit.


Granted, acts like Linkin Park or Korn for example do get the necessary criticism of 'selling out' as they mired in the same content they've been known to do only to make a sudden transition merely to chase the new trend, rather than being trendsetters. I think when it comes to your upbringing, I had heard of you actually quite late into your career, about as far back as 2016 and never had seen any of your previous YTP's, which is odd considering that I remember such popular poopers like KroboProductions or SantaWithTeeth back in the late Aughts. It's a bit poetically ironic that the negative energy of those criticisms made you change your style in a way that maintained your relevance because you were able to expand your horizons, the very thing that these people had concerns regarding your material.

You were only 1 to 2 years older than me making YouTube Poops while I was just a viewer. You were still in your hayday when I turned 13 and made my first YouTube account, and subscribed. Time really does fly. I also wish I had your level of talent and knew where to get the program at the time, because my sad attempts at YTPs were extremely terrible and objectively cringe.

I'm 21 now, and still enjoy your current content, and while I've long since past my dreams of becoming a YouTube Pooper (I eventually lost interest in it for good), I now plan on learning how to program video games, how to animate and how to improve my digital art skills (so far I seem to somewhat excel at traditional art). I also would like to learn to make electronic music at some point, and I'd also like to learn to be a good voice actress, and since I always had an interest in singing, maybe I could do something with that too. (Sorry if I sound up my own @$$ or something, I just have multiple different things that interest me.)

Hopefully I do better in my college courses next semester, when I go back to college, than I did previously so I could potentially have a career in these fields. For now, I'll just worry about my current job at an iHerb warehouse as a material handler.

This video and channel deserves as much praise as it can get, and that really says something considering I actually understand this scenario. I'm actually going through something similar to what you did, with people making videos bullying and impersonating me, and it most of these are even worse than when I made the decision to delete my channel (this one is the old one rebuilt from the ground up) with said channels bothering me for the sake of trolling. I already contacted the local authorities because of how far some of these people sunk to, with one of them showing themselves murdering me by editing a clip of Scarface and getting his channel terminated for it. I'm going to make new videos as an overhaul of my old ones to completely rebuild my fallen channel to be even better than what I started with. You, along with so many other channels I've watched, have been very inspirational to me creating this channel so I could essentially do what you wanted to do with your channel from the start: make videos to entertain others. I've had numerous double takes with trusting people nowadays and have found myself looking over my shoulder many times out of fear for my own skin, but I'm still looking for the proper answer I'm looking for but may never get. I reached out to several of my inspirations the second I joined, and that may be why nobody in the BioTube community hates me at the moment (then again, I'm one of the smallest channels, and the people that cyberbully me target my channel specifically rather than my content) but I hope that never happens. Maybe dealing with these issues has caused me to see the dark side of being on YouTube, with people building their reputations off of bullying others under the guise of being "commentary channels," but seeing videos like this makes me turn around to looking to the light side, and hopefully I'll have enough of that to keep me from looking at that horrible crap now. Outside from the YTP community, it seems to me that overall, most long-time Internet users including myself seem to have become so desensitized to content that they're unable to find anything funny (or interesting) anymore, and we just take things more seriously naturally as we grow up, regard older stuff from childhood in one's mind as if they were better than they actually are since our memories are never exact, also not as in the people but the production quality, back then we were obviously more innocent xD

Hey Emperor Lemon, I remember when I first started watching your YTP's with my best friend in middle school and all the times it made me laugh. Seeing what your channel as it is now makes me immensely happy, and that last part when you talked about how you are just finishing college and might do youtube fulltime gives me hope. Probably one of the most interesting videos ive seen on the site in a long time. I wish this hadn't happened. I too was one of the people that was confused on why the poops stopped. Thinking about this the same thing happened to cartoonlover98. He ended up getting really popular then stopped. I don't think there was any backlash against him but the community was probably up against him since his toy story poops and SpongeBob poops were popular along the time of emps increased popularity. That's also around the time mobrosstudios stopped producing content. Although mobrosstudios is back and making content I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for lemon for pushing through the crap other channels wouldn't be here today and I respect that.

Maybe the real YTP was the self respect you found along the way.

20:00 and the best part of this Diaspora of former YTP creators is that the "Style" of YTP editing often goes with them.

I remember watching tons of YTPs in high school and college, and then trying to show my friends some of them, usually resulting in awkward silence and weird looks. Then I'd show them The Non and Un-Credibles, and almost everyone would have a laugh at least once. That broke the ice for some of them, and made for some fun moments. There's nothing wrong with making something people like. What's wrong is making something you hate BECAUSE others like it. And personally I never got that impression from your videos.

Wow I'm surprised how heavily EmpLemom was bashed. Thats a shame, I guess jealousy can make people nasty.

I think back to this video a lot. I've been in a very, very similar situation with a community. At least, I felt the same, I ended up in a very similar mental state with such commitment to that dumb community, with what I think was pretty petty drama and attitudes being thrown around. But it was a pretty small community, just one forum. I don't think I'll ever get any answers from anyone there and it genuinely, seriously depresses me. I did try to reach out on my own, I asked a few users, I asked for people to talk and criticise me. It seems like nobody wanted to actually speak to me about why they hated me there. It's haunted me pretty constantly since and shaped my view on entering communities and making friends.

I just envy that you got an answer. I also envy that at least those years served as a stepping stone for you, I only have four people from that community left who I even speak to. Everyone else came to hate me or left me for dead or I cut them out myself (reasonable or not). I wasted a lot of years on some small online community but I'm honestly not even sure how much I did learn from it and I don't think it lead me to much. I don't even know anymore. When I don't even know what I want in life I guess I can't tell wether I'm closer to being happy or achieving anything practical.

But Emp, I respect you a lot. I've been watching for probably four years now, although not quite as much at first, you inspire me. I would really like to say more, but I think that's best left for its own comment. I do still feel awful, but thank you for everything you create. I'm sure I'm not entirely alone in being inspired by the quality and style in your work and observations. I've seen people say that they opened their mind to more thanks to you, if that means anything. I don't know if you still read many comments, and again I'll leave another about my thankfulness at some point- but this video, itself, it makes me feel a little less insane. It feels like sometimes all I can do is hang onto these things that make me feel less insane, and I remember, and I appreciate it. Also, mad respect for being open about and putting forward something like this.

There's a great presence of honesty in this video. One that I must not understate. This is something that really inspires me to look back and ponder: How did I get here?

The whole intro to the complaints section is one of my favorite edited pieces of media just like... in general that I have ever come across. Like it just just hits a certain emotion I didn't even know that I had.

I am glad I could finally learn about the other side of what fame brings in your life. I do remember your old YTP videos, but I guess I took more interest in how well and informed your videos are done. Yes, I had hearty laughs at the random shit you produced, but I cannot deny that, since your retirement from YTP, the quality of your content is perhaps one of the most underrated on this site. It is the right thing to open up on this rather sensitive subject, but the way you handled it with professionalism and patience indeed show that you are more mature than others proved too.

I felt pretty bad when you were going through these hard times, I remember it going down. I genuinely liked you YTP content and still do to this day. It is a sad day when a fantastic YTP creator just leaves and ditches making YTPs altogether. I can honestly relate to this, as a sort of creator myself (not a YTP creator, but an artist actually) it just utterly sucks when you're driven to the point where something you used to be so passionate about suddenly dies out and you despise it now. I suppose we can all learn from this, maybe some people won't sadly, but people don't realize what they do is tearing creators apart. I hope within time, that you'll come back to creating Poops. Everytime you act your own way, this inspires self-steem issues on others used to imitate and reflect community behaviour.

I still watch your videos because they're insightful and well thought out (except in the rare occasions when the "lol fuck libtards" narrative leaks in), even if it's something I never thought I'd be interested in (like 2/3 of the Never Ever series). I may have initially subscribed because of Uncredibles, but your most recent content has driven much of my appreciation for YouTube's small niche of well-thought-out, well-structured, informative-yet-still-entertaining videos with no strings attached (read: ads/sponsors/sub-begging). As you've said yourself, "Watch videos on this website to be amazed – to be inspired. Watch YouTubers because they're great." And every time I clean my subscriptions, I can never bring myself to unsubscribe from you, no matter how many times you tell me to, and no matter how much you may say things that I disagree with, because, the way I see it, we're on the same side.

My first ytp I seen from you was Hank Hill's Airport Apocalypse, and to this day I love going back to it.

Funny enough the "why are we stuck with you" is laughable considering most people most likely didn't know who that furry even was.

I never intended for my first Without Pokemon video to get 600k views. I just wanted to make videos I felt like making. Ever since then hardly anybody wants to watch my other videos. I took a 2 year break for multiple reasons, including feeling burnt out. Now my channel is on life support. YouTube's algorithm is funny like that.

Hearing someone refer to you going on a "downward spiral mentally" because they didn't like your funni edit is insane

You know I've been lonely pretty much my whole life, and despite regular attempts to keep everyone around happy and try to be the one that has the respect of others, and it really made me question my sanity sometimes. Why was it so hard for anyone to want to be around me if I wasn't giving them something? I found a lot of connection and relief through this video and I'm glad you made it, just feels great to know there's others out there with similar experiences.

Sometimes, an apology isn't good enough. Seeing someone go through what you have expressed in this video, wether I hate them or not, always hurts me to some degree. I was actually getting a little emotional towards the middle of the video. I cry when I feel a powerful intensity of emotion overwhelm me, regardless of what it is. Guess that could be anyone, really. The primary Comment of the video had me itching to hunt it down, in turn finding the one who posted it, and speak my mind, caring not how they felt afterward. I'm glad I decided to watch the whole video before doing something I'll regret later. What really hit home was within a minute's radius of 15:00. That whole time, I felt like hurting those that hurt you like that. You are one of few people who can inspire those feelings AND curb them in a single video. Telling us not to hunt down the source of the Comment played a big role in putting out that flame. The apology you got from the same Commenter snuffed what remained of the embers. I hope you're doing well, and I hope you're having fun with your videos again.

EmpLemon was the CM Punk of the YTP community. A diligent worker that was not respected by his colleagues until he lashed out in several "pipe bombs" and people grew to respect him more and more. Nowadays, both Emp and Punk do very different things but both seem happy, successful, and are seen as legends of their fields. That classic image of your icon on the shoulders of Punk sums up the trojection of your channel as a whole.

I'm a long time viewer and I'm so glad that I didn't follow your advice and press that unsubscribe button in 2016. It's been a real pleasure to watch you morph into the great, nuanced, and passionate YouTuber that you are today. Keep up the phenomenal work and godspeed.

Even though YTPs are unable to get popular, I keep on seeing YTP like edits in other videos that I watch, even from people I’ve never seen display any interest in YTPs (For example, RelaxAlax). I guess the art form has evolved so far beyond art that it’s integrated itself into Youtube’s society.

Wow what a memory trip. It's so often I come across a youtuber I think I've never seen, only to realize it's one of the same guys I watched when I was 14. I never would've imagined that such a weird and obscure medium like YTP is something that I'd look back on with so much nostalgia, but hearing all these names I recognize and spent so much of my time following really hits me. The stupid infighting always bothered me but at the time it felt like the internet was just a really hostile place back then, so I kind of came to expect it in some way or another, and I jumped on those bandwagons too. But every time I see one of those familiar faces putting out totally new content and building on their success, it really brings a smile to my face :)

Well, seeing a screenshot of me in here was unexpected. You were the first Pooper I ever subscribed to back in 2014, a year after I started getting into watching Poops and served as an early inspiration to get into making them myself. I never hated you or anything, hell, I was one of the few YouChew members who defended you for the most part. Admittedly, I had my disagreements with some of the more broader generalised statements you made about the community as a whole when really your issue was indeed with a handful of specific people within it, Stu especially. But regardless of anything I personally disagreed with at the beginning of The Downward Spiral, I've remained a subscriber and fan to this day and I've continued to enjoy just about everything you've made for this channel over the past 5 years. You've certainly grown a lot with your experiences and I know during your more toxic moments you were still just an edgy teenager who wasn't sure how to deal with that level of attention and criticism, nobody would be able to at that age. You don't need to look to the past anymore, Emp. You've grown and you're doing your own thing with gusto and you should be proud of your accomplishments. I can't wait to see what you do next. :^)

I still see a bit of that ytp spirit in you Emp, whether it be video transitions, gags, video emphasis (like your mention of Mitt Romneys percentage comment on your Donald Trump Meme video, "YOU LOSE"), etc,. I think when you do things like that over mini documentaries and other types of videos can be even better than entire YTPs. It blends humor and analysis, which emphasizes your points in your videos. I'd say you're doing great Emp. Carry on :-)

I have been watching your content since point you started to posted the Red herring video. I saw it interesting and listening to somebody who has done research + knows what they are talking about. I saw it supricing to see that there was youtube poop mixed here and there. Coming back to this video over 2 years later, re-encountering again what you had to say about youtube poop and why its not enjoyable anymore. In my honest opininion: People taking youtube poop so seriously to talk about it with one another in critical manner is so self centered and overwhelmingly geeky practise that i could not imagine somebody saying anything else but youtube poop being good or bad (thats all it needs really). Somebody telling "Why are we stuck with you" had to be most heart sinking thing to read at the time and i have my fullest sympathy towards you and your feelings.. as i started watching your content just because you are interesting person to listen.

Damn, and here I thought the only drama in the YTP "community" was whether or not doing more advanced edits of stuff was still YTP. Like, doing anything outside of the realms of what Windows Movie Maker allowed for. I remember making a few stupid YTP like videos, only one ever made it to upload. It is sitting at 10 years old, 900 views, 2 likes 1 dislike, and a comment asking for me to upload the source video that I used. Doesn't seem like I lost much of anything from not continuing to do it. The only other one I remember making was "Robotnik gets a computer virus" and it involved Mario from Mario Teaches Typing 2 being planted on Robotnik's computer by Sonic. I remember it being very poorly edited. I think it got wiped along with the computer that I made it on. I was using a really underpowered PC for the longest time. I enjoyed doing some of the video edits, I mostly uploaded it to show a friend and he liked it. I am glad it didn't get insanely popular and launch a search for the guy who made the video to make more.

You know, if you DO go back to YTPs in any form, I feel like it's a good way to do sponsors.
I fucking absolutely hate it when Billy YouTube decides to braid Raid Shadow Legends' pubes, but if you're going to do it, I think using YTPs to do it is kinda clever. They don't have to be long, they can still be funny (assuming they don't give you a massive script of boring shit) and you can basically do whatever as long as you probably use the sponsor as a good thing.

You honestly just have a gift for story telling, no if and or buts about it. I don't know what a "YouTube Poop" is, I never gave a damn about Nascar or it's heroes and drama, I could give a fuck about basically any topic you've chosen to dive into, but I've been completely engaged and this might be a little much, but damn near enthralled from beginning to end as you meander through the story. Just the way you provide a means to interface with topics and ideas people that on their own would never really have any interest in whatsoever, is a true testament to your ability to get people to care or at least be inquisitive enough to want to see it through to the end. That's a gift that many come close to having every now and then, but you seem to have that ability with a consistency that is proof of your skill and capability. It's an almost intangible and ephemeral concept to be able to get other to be interested and engaged with, but you got it bro, whatever "it" may be.

Dude it's precisely the fact that you didn't have a voice in the community that made you a perfect punching bag. A lot of people derive their worth from tearing others down, and cowards like that go for the easy targets that won't or can't bite back.

I'm not saying that's the case for all of the criticism of your videos and all of your critics. But if you were wondering why the response was so strong when you've had so little interaction with the community, then I think that's a factor.

8 months later ever since I saw this video and happens to be that ever since my last comment things have gotten better. I've become mod in the discord I am in as well as in game and now friends with the people who hated me the most after they saw how reliable and good of a person I am. Sure, we all wish we wouldn't take complaints so seriously, and sure, maybe it would have been easier to ignore all of it, but the fact still is that when a ton of people ruin a lovely innocent thing that's supposed to be enjoyable, due to elitism, personal tastes, and just overall meaningless crap while your work doesn't harm anyone, that just sucks.


I haven't exactly gone through the same thing, but I have seen way too many situations where people's personal tastes were portrayed just like this, and I think taste is not a valid thing to piss on someone for, to this extent. Sure, some of your stuff might not interest me as much as the next guy, but it's whatever. You're not harming anyone and you didn't deserve to be treated the way people treated you. YTP, among many other things, is and should be nothing more than a great form of entertainment, and entertainment is subjective. To respect another person's subjectivity is to make a better world, honestly. Anyway, just wanted to say that. Cool vid man. Great to see ya doing well, and great to see you confronted things and to see it has been resolved pretty well.

I have never been so conflicted in my life. We all wanna get our voices heard, once the "big guys" see the newbies, they're gonna tell them that they're gonna "be big one day". But once that actually happens, they turn on the now bigger than ever newbie. It's like this game of backstabbing, posing your status, acting like you care for the smaller creators, but once said creators become big they'll antagonize you. Their supportive nature really was nothing but a facade, huh? Usually when somebody is hated, people connect that to them being a problem, but people never consider the possibility of that not being the case. It's the reason Hungrybox is so relatable to you, and why you are so relatable to others. While most people act nice on the outside, with a fabricated "nice" personality, true support is as rare as a shallow pond in the desert, and sometimes might even come off from someone lacking a fabricated exterior, instead being brutally honest with everyone, not really thinking or caring about the consequences. I know you might not even find this comment due to the excessive amount of others flouding the inbox, but I know somebody else will, they'll know what I mean.

Some people have ways to climb out of their Downward Spiral, but as for EmpLemon... that's a different story.

EmpLemon is a beautiful flower and I love seeing both him and his channel grow.

Yeah, there can be a lot of drama in the YTP community. The drama with dem hecksters, Totilix, Angel Starbath, Jace Berry, Skittle Jesus and Clankity Clonkity was a good example of YTP drama.

The more cynicism and sarcasm that composes a community...... the more salt and toxicity that spawns from it...... but to be honest every community starts like that because it's mostly composed of people in their edgey phase of their lives and edges..... tends to cut everyone

He’s actually pretty funny. Also, a bunch of ytp’ers like DaThings have turned down the path of breadtube and are making ytps from leftist content and I just can’t get on board with that

I think one of the reasons I've grown to respect your YouTube channel over the past years isn't just because I think you make very good videos (the never ever videos are some of the most thought-provoking videos I've ever watched on top of being well-edited)


It's mostly because it strikes a very personal chord with me. I grew up consuming YTP obsessively, and dreamed of expressing myself via YouTube in whatever ways I felt like throughout my early life. And now that I'm 23, I start to feel like that's all a dream no one can respect. I don't tell people I make YouTube videos, hell I've barely even worked on any in months even though it's something I love doing.


But that's what you do that I don't really get from anywhere else - you legitimize making YouTube videos. You remind me that there's something valuable about making silly videos and uploading them to the internet for goofy fun, not just as something to give to other people - but as something to give to yourself.


Of all the things I've ever done, it's some of the better YouTube videos that I've produced that I'm most proud of. Sure, I was born with some natural gifts here and there and I could've had a great career in some lofty, highly respected position somewhere. But I've never wanted that, and I don't even think it's a possibility at this point.


I like expressing myself. I find endless personal value in the process of trying to create a good video. I love more than anything the knowledge that what I'm doing can connect with others and make a positive impact on their lives, even if it's an impact that only lasts the duration of the video itself. These are things that matter to me, regardless of what they might mean to anyone else.


For so long I've struggled with this idea that in order to justify making youtube videos, you have to be on a different level you have to be making things that are truly pride-worthy. You have to have production quality or talent that far surpasses your peers and constituents.


But I think that's what makes YTP so attractive - it goes completely against that idea. YTP says that there is value in taking a clip from an episode of King of the Hill and remixing it to make Hank sound like he's saying absurd, vulgar, or shocking things in a way that is not only unconvincing, but even exaggerating its own unconvincingness for the sake of humor. And that's something even 13 year-olds can do, like you and I once were, dreaming of remixing everything into these absurdist self-made collages.


But that's something you do in a very direct manner (like with the Never Ever series). You point out the meaning in something that people otherwise ignore or write off. And that's also something that's endemic to YTP, the goal is to turn something that once meant something consistent and recognizable and present it to people in a way that brings brand new perspective on what was once familiar.


These are not trivial things. In fact, on top of being justifiable, you could even call them one of the great artistic statements of the early internet age.


There is a voice in my heart that calls me to feel shame for caring about any of this as much as I have throughout my life. And I do, very often. I struggle to remember that the things I do to make myself happy are important, regardless of their nature. But that's something you've helped me to remember.


So I don't think you really have to make YTP, because I think the exact thing that makes YTP so valuable is already present in the videos you are making. You're presenting new perspective to people that refreshes them on things they once took for granted.


And that's not just what a good YTP'er does, that's what a great artist does.

know im a month late but this really feels intense. I dont comment much on things but the way you express how you felt and how the attitude changed and how you started to view yourself differently over years, meanwhile still holding regret and the sadness from the criticism you got over time made me feel kinda sad. I think youre an amazing uploader for anything you make. sure some things i just kinda sit through while you rant but for the most part i really listen. I know im no one of importance so me sharing my opinion shouldnt get anymore then 1 like or even dislike, its something you just look over and read during freetime (possibly). Oh man, I have made my fair share of mistakes over the years. I think that this is what this whole situation boils down to from my perspective. People who make YTP are generally younger and have a lot of passion about what they do. Your channel can easily become a place of status. In the hands of someone young, passionate, and impressionable, this can derail quickly. I have seen quite the number of petty feuds turn quite nasty. I love to avoid beef and burnt bridges, but I've managed to almost set some afire on almost complete accident with some poorly placed jokes or plain stupid ideas that should have died in my brain. I managed to not do to much in the way of anything that bad at all, though. Those are things that I wished that I could take back, but are more of a testament to the fact of how far I have grown in just the past few years. I'm note sure that I would take them back now, as there are a lot of lessons that I have learned from the results of those mistakes.


What I have come to realize is that the fellow members of the community are also people who are flawed just like me. They all have their weak points and soft spots that can lead to some pretty bad things. In a community so rich with diversity in personage, ideals, and mentality, there would be the inevitable conflict. Sadly, this conflict between people moves to the public stage. People pick their corners and try to "work" things out. In our time, this happened oh so many times. There was sus, reaction videos, story poops, extremely glitched video, offensive jokes, and spadinner just to name a handful of the ocean of conflicts. These played out in realtime through the works of the videos. And people chose sides and burnt down bridges. For young adults/teenagers arguing on the internet would to be wholly civil in almost an impossibility. Adding in a young audience and the permanence of the internet lead to some fiery times.


Pertaining to yourself, you got a pretty raw deal. You had some feuds with the old/now defunct guard that really had you blacklisted as soon as they noticed you. At one time, I think that you were the second most popular YouTube Pooper in existence only to CS188. Cs188 received a lot of flak himself but ignored it and pressed on. You took a more hand on approach. I have found on YouTube that as soon as you address your criticisms, a decent sized portion of your audience is exposed to that criticism and may embrace it. With a large number of old YTPers adding fuel and ammunition to the criticism, it got way out of hand. Words were probably exchanged that would not be exchanged by older, wiser versions of ourselves.



Almost all of the audience probably did not get anywhere near the full context of what you were trying to say in those early downward spiral videos. At a certain point, people love a good epic demise story and wanted desperately to see it. It is cool to see how you turned a bad situation into something larger than it ever was before.


As for a YTP in the future, I would love to see another one if you ever felt up to it. I'm sure that most of your audience feels the same way. I am really, really enjoying what you are making right now, though. Hope all is well!

I know im commenting on a 2 year old video but as someone who did YTP for a brief part of my life I'm kinda shocked that there was even any drama whatsoever within a circle of people who make usually nonsensical videos and not much more. I guess I never went deep enough down the rabbit hole back in the day but it's really sad to see that this faux hierarchy exists in every group and community online. I'm not sure I'll look at YTP personalities the same again. Every one of them always just came across to me as someone who was there to provide the laughs and not much more, and whilst I was aware many had other YTP buddies, it never dawned on me that such friendship groups could gang up on individual creators and hold such an elitist view on a such a random for of content production. Especially when almost all of the big YTP producers are now grown up and gone or have moved on to other styles of work, much like a lot of those who were the big players in the 'MLG Parody' style of content creation a few years ago. I guess in the moment at that age, YTP seems like the only thing there is, and will ever be, to some people. Probably down to it being one of the very few communities that seems to un-killable

It's a shame people choose to treat YTP still to this day as if its the only thing that is relevent in the world. And it's a shame that some people today choose to hold a grudge against a content creator who, at least to the way I saw it, was merely cranking out the yucks like all the rest.

I always watching closely as to where your content was heading next after the big Pixar YTP's, and where it ended up was equally as satisfying, but for different reasons. Regardless, the content today is as entertaining as it was back then, and that isn't something a lot of people can pin down on this site

This makes me wonder how many other Youtube channels had a chance at success but gave it up for a "real job." What content is being made because of people not pursuing their dreams? I guess this isn't necessarily new since people have always been discouraged from creative outlets at some point in history. There are likely best selling novels or hit songs that were never written. I guess there isn't anything to be done about it but I think it's a neat concept to consider.

I think you’re pretty grounded & fair. Don’t let the comments get you too down

As someone who watched your YTPs back in later 2013- early 2016. I feel like your main problem was that as your fanbase grew more popular, you started to cookie cut memes and ytp refrences into your ytps to please the crowd rather than make original jokes with the content.

I didn’t really have a problem with your YTP style until Frying Nemo and onwards (until the fan backlash started). Watching that TYP made me feel like I was watching one of those Dank meme vine/instagram compilations that were extremely popular and always in the recommended section at the time but old, unoriginal, and bland.

That, combined with harrassment from people new to the scene who thought that your style/Trudermark’s style of YTP was the model example caused a bunch of creators to lose interest and quit and I eventually quit watching YTPs altogether as they became a relic.

I don’t think you were directly responsible for killing YTPs, I feel like meme culture going mainstream is the reason why things started going downhill. You just happened to be popular at the time so you were an easy scapegoat.

But drama in a silly ytp community still baffles me.

I appreciate that, in general, you make whatever the fuck you want. It's a relief from other content styles and honestly that was the original draw to poops.

If you ever make a video that (basically) says your downward spiral is done/gone. If you do, please, use scenes from Gurren Laggan when they are in that space sea and they are trying to destroy a vacuum spiral. Just a suggestion.

The Syndrome Downward Spiral clip, was spot on and I related to it alot. Good video.

The one thing that makes you stand out from the other YouTubers is your honesty. You get straight to the point, and explain why "this is bad" or "this is good". Many commentary YouTubers nowadays just want to hop on trend after trend just to meme on them and make a quick buck. Two perfect examples I can list on the top of my head were the James Charles incident and Idubbbz vs Tana Mongeau.

With James Charles, everyone hopped on it immediately. It damaged his reputation for good, especially now that the accusations were false. Didn't change the fact now that people to this day still see him as a predator. Everyone hopped on the bandwagon, yet no one took everything with a grain of salt.

With Tana and Idubbbz, everyone jumped on that bandwagon too. Every YouTuber reported on that topic to the point where the topic itself became so saturated where it just stopped being interesting. Idubbbz's content cop wasn't very impactful because everyone talked about it. He even made fun of that, hence why he did the topic so late. There wasn't much for him to talk about since everyone did it for him. This was the day where I stopped being interested in Commentary channels and youtube drama. Same shit, different day.

And that is the problem with youtube nowadays. Everyone has to be the first to talk about a certain topic because the market is so saturated. If you are too slow, the topic isn't relevant anymore.

Man this made me cry, it was so sad to see the people you looked up to start to complain about you for seemingly no other reason than that you got popular.

Seeing as Emp said he learnt more about YTP from Stew's YTP news, I decided to search for the videos and even the channel, but it seems to be gone. I know it's the wrong place to ask, but I would like to see why Emp respected Stew back in the day, and even learn more about the history of YTP. I love YTP-isms and seeing how to most a thing like JoJ would be meaningless, but to someone familiar with YTP or CS188 would instantly recognize a like minded individual. Kinda like with any form of art.
Anyone got a link to an archive? Is there such a thing?

Lastly, can someone please make a series of tutorials for YTP editing?
I know tutorials for YTP sound paradoxical, but with editing software becoming more expensive and more streamlined for standard editing work, a lot of the effects and stuff that was just out there (because people who made professional software in 2000's had next to no concept of flow) for people to play with, are now things that you HAVE to deliberately look for.

I don't know if my life is on a downward, upward, sideways, or vertical spiral. I'm just enjoying the ride.

I guess the old adage is true; "youtube is where the poop is."

I honestly whole-heartedly agree with this video. I'd always thought as to why I and others hated you, but everyone, including myself, either had no reasons or gave reasons that were either lies, misunderstandings or just plain petty. I came to terms with the fact that the mass of hate you got and still get is more or less baseless.
As a personal friend of the guy who commented, featured in this video, I can say that watching it unfold over the course of years when I first started talking to him in 2016 was strange, disturbing and sometimes even scary. Even though I didn't like you back then, myself, I never understood the immense amount of hate that was leading to counter-productive action and project after counter-productive action and project and various rants peppered throughout our conversations.
While I'm personally not the biggest fan of the content you make or even your YTPs, your style wasn't really my thing, I have massive respect for you for not giving up at this whole YouTube thing. I used to be part of the YouTube poop community but after I grew out of it I didn’t know what to watch, so a year or two later I started watching your non YouTube poop videos and I really liked them so I started watching you again. Wow after watching this video and the previous ones and the most recent one I'm glad as hell I have found this channel and subscribed already.

I think this whole situation can be explained by the underdog mentality. There is a small contender in a big, rigged system that starts gaining notoriety and respect by moving up said system. However, the more fans someone gets, the more haters someone gets. When this underdog crosses a certain threshold, they become an overdog, the king of the hill. Suddenly, the community turns on them, and now no one will admit they actually like this person. Through no fault of their own, this person now questions if the thing they used to love is still right for them. The person experiences burn out, and they quietly retire. Years later, the only time this person gets talked about is from former haters questioning why they hated the person in the first place. This is EmpLemom's story exactly, and I'm glad he managed to turn things around and is generally liked again.

Feels like I stepped into a one-sided argument about passive comments critiquing an art piece. A simmering domestic abuse case just waiting to boil over. Mk.

As an independent artist who hopped in and out of communities, let me give you this advice.
Enjoy the feeling of beeing part of a group and the positive interactions that comes with it, but don't forget to keep developing yourself outside of the heard.
Oh, and most of all, only listen to constructive criticism and even then, make your own opinion before letting it impact your creative process.
Never stop making what you love, true passion is contagious.

when you go into YT you have no idea what are you going to post, no one has good recommendation on how to handle the platform properly and what to post, most daily YT's have no idea what post daily.

YT is a huge trending machine that pushes people to post content and has people who can be and not be Toxic, trolly, hackers, dramatic, etc.

it is also fine to cry and let your emotions out, it tends to happen under stress, it is also very important to stay off internet to keep your mind sane and healthy man, but anyway I wish the best of luck for you and your college degree, hope you can graduate.

Idk if you'll see this and idk if this'll matter all that much; but I like watching you for the creativity that very clearly is shown throughout your editing. Legit you're the only one I see edit in little "commercial breaks" in your videos, and I find that fucking INTERESTING! A little detail, yeah. Does it matter? Not that much. But it's also interesting for this reason. Those little, "commercial breaks" aren't just any ordinary ad (even though some times its to plug in your patreon), they're your old videos- ones you made some time ago. I like how you dabble in your YouTube poops into your rant videos because, idk about other people, but that to me shows that you haven't let go of the styles and type of videos you started off with. You haven't sold out, and you haven't changed. A little bit of your hobby/passion can be seen throughout your rants and it shows, to me atleast. Keep doing what you're doing, because clearly you have good intentions.

I've been subbed to you since before the whole Uncredibles. I never got into the community but I loved the likes of MrTpoops, OrpheusFTW, Dikeike...I basically witnessed the golden age and fall of YTPs. You were always my favorite. Mainly because of your simplicity.

I never heard of you until a month ago with the HBox video. I don't know who you are so I can't hate you but I have a base line level respect for anyone alive, so you have my respect just for being a person. If we ever got to met or talk, that's when I can really make a personal judgement level choice like if I respect you or not. So far your content isn't for me but that's not a reason not to respect someone, you could have some skeletons I'm not aware of and never will be but to just assume you're not worth respecting seems silly to me. I have no idea how I would ever get in contact with you, or why, there's no reason for it, but I'd respect you until you gave me a reason not too, just thinking like that makes life a lot more tolerable. The most important thing is having fun and I hope you're having as much fun as you come off with the Never Ever series.

One thing I feel like might have been passed over may be the motivational power of adversity. When you are a channel with 10 subscribers and you go from 10 to 100 that is a huge motivational factor not only because you are succeeding, but you are succeeding DESPITE not having traction already. After the numbers get big enough that you can't even comprehend the amount of people watching comments begin to matter. Having your heros give negative feedback is a motivational factor, because you want to prove you can be better. But thats like using poor quality fuel, eventually the engine clogs and it sucks the fun out of the experience. Its easy to say and point out that while you spent this whole video about at most thousands of negative comments, hundreds of thousands of positive comments are also there, its just hard to appreciate them because most of them are unsubstantial. "Keep up the good work" doesn't give the same information as "This is lazy as fuck" despite both being pretty much the same level of non-effort comments because of the negative comment implying that if you prove yourself not to be "lazy" you can grow rather than maintain. Thats why someone would lurk on a forum that apparently was dedicating to hating them, seeking this negative feedback kinda feels good in a weird way because it challenges the existential fear that there are no mountains left to climb. Its just worth reminding yourself that you are making mountains out of these mole hills to push yourself whenever it does come time to objectively evaluate your worth as a creator.

TL:DR Some people thrive in an environment of hate, and when they don't have it they will go looking for it.

Who knew there was so much criticism behind creating purposely shit content.

Jealous and narcissism kills everything. All of the comments you mentioned, criticism, cruel intentions, every single gram of it comes from "im better than you and im going to hurt you for having something I want". Losers, all of them. I faced a lot of it in the fingerboard community back in 2010-2012. Its easy to look back on it now and totally ignore it, but at the time, its your meaning. Its what you do. Jealousy from a group of people like that, especially ones you trusted and/or respected is simply emotionally impossible to ignore. I'm sorry you had to deal with this.

Commentary videos on interesting subjects are what a lot of youtubers are doing. I think other poopers are probably jealous they never figured out how to adapt to the new trend in content people are looking for.

I first became aware of YTP in that same summer of 16. I had a lot of time to myself because of relationship issues with my now current wife. Your content was among the first for me to discover (I'm not really sure how) along with MLG meme compilations and a number of other things that caught my attention.


I didn't know about all the drama between you and the YTP community, but I certainly enjoyed your videos. I can say your pixar poops were probably more popular because they were much more digestible. For the same reasons you made them, I watched them. Through that long lonely summer I had, your videos started a trend for me that gave me many laughs when I needed them.


I'm happy to see you're still kicking around on here. With the topics you've been covering, and in such detail, I have mad respect for you. Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see if your full YouTube career takes off.
