2 years ago I wondered if I will ever get to play on the "original hill" (this is what I called it) or title screen world. I didn't even hope to see those worlds. That moment... It reminded me playing minecradt in the "good old days" When Title screen seed was found I was shocked. I've always wanted to build a house there and when I would look through window, I would see this image. Same thing with pack png. Even longer ago (probably 4 years later)I googled if someone have seed of both of those world. Nobody had. Until now. Have a good day

I didn't think it was possible to reverse an image with size 128x128 to a seed, only with that little information. You guys are amazing keep doing what ur doing it's really amazing to have such people in this community!

Wow, the scene is actually beautiful. You guys from the packcrack team along with SalC1 should be included in the end credits of Minecraft in honor of bringing the community together and accomplishing such a sentimental goal. As a player who started playing in 2011 when beta 1.7.3 just came out, I'm so happy to have seen this unfold
Then screenshot the house and the hill at the exact angle, after that resize it downto 256x256 and rename it to pack.png and finally replace the original pack.png in minecraft folder
damn, this is surreal. I was watching this unfold on the SalC1 server and helping with little bits here and there, left halfway and then BOOM! tons of progress with MC@H's boincfarm. found, published, woke up to this announcement. now this is fucking cool.
This is monumental, revolutionary. This IS a scientific breakthrough, it may “just” be Minecraft but this was an incredible feat of human engineering and ingenuity...Absolutely incredible. I had nothing to do with it but... just knowing about this fascinating project makes me so happy. Congratulations to everyone involved, sincerely. You should be proud of yourselves. This really was a revolutionary project and it belongs in Computer Science/History textbooks.

The fact that a group of people were able to comb through trillions of Minecraft seeds to find specific terrain generation from a low resolution image is absolutely incredible and shows how far technology has progressed.
With both this and the title screen background found, it's like standing in the same spot that a historic event happened in real life. The digital version of knowing this is where history was made.
Or, archaeologists using clues and developing technology just to see if some ancient legendary place like Atlantis was true, putting claims together as a set of clues to narrow possible dig sites down, then excavating until they uncover the buildings, the pottery, the diaries of the inhabitants... Bringing the legends to life. Just in game form. It's awe inspiring. ♥️
Seems small to some, but to us who have been following this since the start, it's a whole achievement and a way to show how dedicated the community of this game is. Big shoutout to all the people involved.

A new generation of people will look at this, and some may take this seed for granted, others wont even acknowledge it, but then there are those that realize the pain staking hard work, and they applause you and your commrades for their efforts. This seed, its more than just a seed, its a place, stuck in time, only remembered in nostalgia. Gives people a warm feeling, this is what minecraft is all about.
The fact that all you guys had was a 128 x 128 png image and still finding it, is a massive accomplishment. The engineering, maths and brain power to accomplish this is far beyond my understanding. Give these guys a medal, (or a Nobel prize) or something!
Fun fact: After getting the seed from b1.3 and generating the world in a1.2.2, you can open it again in b1.3 to update it, and then open it in 1.16.2 to update it to the latest version of minecraft. Yeah, the edges of the generated world will clash a bit with the newer generation, but you'll have Pack Hill in 1.16!
There are some really really smart people out there and i want to thank everyone that did this. You'll be known for the history of Minecraft as the guys who found the pack.Png seed. You guys got my respect Edit: I'm crying.
I'm a bit late with posting my comment, but the main contributors like Earthcomputer should be invited to Minecraft Festival (whenever it happens). Also they should receive a pack.png cape and maybe on the festival a real-life cape of pack.png. Maybe Mojang should include a banner pattern for pack.png.

Gmtk said in one of his tweet that he was going to put skippable ads in his vids, and he also wrote something about Trump’s reelection ads. @S P so there is this image in minecraft used for thumbnail of world in singleplayer menu if i am being correct, so this guys tried to find that seed and that famous hill. They started somewhere near January 2020
@S P basically, salc1 was like "hey, I've seen the image for the Minecraft texture pack for a very long time, but I don't know what the seed is" then he tried searching for the seed himself and kept running into dead ends. posted it on youtube, then twitter, and then Notch and Dinnerbone got involved asking each other questions about the seed on Twitter, and then the seed reverse-engineering team was like "challenge accepted" and then the builders and programmers did a crap ton of work for 8 months trying to find the seed and now here we are.
@S P There is a photo in minecraft of the hill in the game files, pack.png is the file, they have been looking for the original seed for 8 months I believe.

one of the most biggest accomplishments that the minecraft community has done wasnt a big build or a farm, was a minecraft seed. now, all its mising is the panoramic background of the minecraft menu of 1.13, 1.14, 1.15 and 1.16
Someone canshould will write a case study or a thesis on this marvelous achievement in so many fields of software engineering, machine learning, cryptography, but most importantly: friendship and human dedication.

In 1.16.2, the coordinates take you into a plains biome. However, there is a ruined nether portal at 179 70 67 with some tall mountains to the southeast.
Now i heard they will found the picture where Herobrine first appeared in the fog. Also 1.16 panorama background but i would be very happy if they would find the place where that herobrine photo taken because i love like lore of Minecraft and rumours about Herobrine lol

@Sailor the cloud pattern matches, it's literally at spawn, so the only possibility is a duplicate seed where a world has 2 valid seeds but it doesn't exist in alpha 1.2 as far as i know
@FreshLine_ It should be infinitesimal then. But there should be a chance it's another seed that just happens to match all the blocks from pack.png, I don't know much about Minecraft world generation, but depending on it it could be more probable they found a look alike than the actual historical seed.

You can know it really is the right seed because it's so close to spawn that you could reasonable have just randomly created a world, taken a picture, and then forgotten about it.
Very well done guys. This is unquestionably historic for the MC community. You all deserve the congrats and recognition that can be given. I can only imagine what you all have "learnt" along the way. Lets hope such knowledge and wisdom is only bestowed upon the most pure and trustworthy even possibly being locked away somewhere deep where it cant see the light of day or malicious prying eyes.
I remember playing the minecraft demo and seeing that image for the first time. I also remember dying of hunger, finding out that sheep don't drop meat, and then being slain by a spider in the moody darkness of the night. Congratz on finding this.

0 likesFun fact: After getting the seed from b1.3 and generating the world in a1.2.2, you can open it again in b1.3 to update it, and then open it in 1.16.2 to update it to the latest version of minecraft. Yeah, the edges of the generated world will clash a bit with the newer generation, but you'll have Pack Hill in 1.16!

1 like@S P so there is this image in minecraft used for thumbnail of world in singleplayer menu if i am being correct, so this guys tried to find that seed and that famous hill. They started somewhere near January 2020
1 like@S P basically, salc1 was like "hey, I've seen the image for the Minecraft texture pack for a very long time, but I don't know what the seed is" then he tried searching for the seed himself and kept running into dead ends. posted it on youtube, then twitter, and then Notch and Dinnerbone got involved asking each other questions about the seed on Twitter, and then the seed reverse-engineering team was like "challenge accepted" and then the builders and programmers did a crap ton of work for 8 months trying to find the seed and now here we are.

0 likes@Sailor the cloud pattern matches, it's literally at spawn, so the only possibility is a duplicate seed where a world has 2 valid seeds but it doesn't exist in alpha 1.2 as far as i know
