As a person who was in the community since the early days, I knew that someday it had to end, and that each passing year, the ending was getting closer
This video is a good representation of how it all started, and I just feel like I travelled through time
Thanks for making and sharing this treasure, it means a lot
MLP may be coming to an end, but the impact it once had and still has nowdays, even if it's different, will be always in the animation history books
If one does not maintain or obtain self-awareness, they will require assistance, else they will fail. There is always a way to improve. Just because you took their queen with a pawn does not mean you made the best possible move.
I have a lot in common with early Twilight and Pinkie Pie. I love knowledge, and I am a bouncy person with a usually joyous personality. However, I can also fall into a state of anxiety or spiral of depression just like the two. It has taken me this long to precisely determine that.
this brought feels to me, someone who joined in 2016 and didn’t get the chance to experience the early days of the fandom… but is still really drawn into the nostalgia that this somehow made me feel.
the way the show’s audio is lowpassed over the music… the way the vhs effect represents the early era of the show that we all love near and dear… that last bit with the katy perry parody… the end with the tape being taken out… it’s all wonderful and i thank you for the feels. <3
I did, and that made it especially difficult to work on this video. Knowing the outcome of everything... it makes me hurt and smile at the same time. Looking back hurts so much, yet I love it at the same time.
The end may be in sight but I am happy to look back and see so much nostalgia. MLP changed my life for the better and I will never forget the good it has done. However, Generation 5 sounds like it could have just as much quality as 4 did. So even though I am going to miss the Ponies of our current gen, I can't wait to see what a whole new generation brings.
I've seen ponies in maybe 2013, joined the fandom in 2015 and it feels like my whole life. Who would I be if not the ponies... And I'm still watching, reading, listening. I see pony stuff disappear from the internet and feel heartbreak, beacuse I know that there will be other things and people that'll disappear like that as well - without a warning, forever. All I can do is hope that there is something more to be seen, or heard and that I can do more.
let's hope that when G5 rolls around after S9, it's good, although it'll probably be a few years after S9 this happens. I will stick to see G5, and if it's good, I'll stick around, maybe try and join the creation if it does well, otherwise I'll take what there is at the end of S9 and relax through life
Such a wonderful video. Really is rather heartbreaking to have something like this release at such a time, but at the same time it makes me unbelievably hopeful for the future.
This cartoon gave way to a fandom that was beyond unexpected. Watching it rise up from nothing more than a group of ironic shitposters on 4chan was fascinating, and I am beyond glad that I could be part of it so early on. It went from a despised meme to an unparalleled community of hundreds of thousands centered around a show that, lets face it, was made for little girls.
Having been part of fandoms to a far lesser extent in the past, I was always worried about it ending. It hurt before when amazing shows came to an end, and watching as it all slowly melted away, and I was no where near as invested in to those as I am to MLP.
The thing is, I was expecting a true end. I was expecting one day the show would end, and it would be years before anything new and MLP related ever showed up on TV again. That the community would dwindle down to a few diehard fans in some dark recess of the internet somewhere.
This leak honestly is making me more hopeful than ever. Gen 4 to Gen 5 is just a transition. There won't be years without cute little pixelhorses. Just a small transitional period. The community I think as a whole will transition along with it, we'll lose some and gain some, and in the end the MLP community will keep going.
I mean seriously, did anyone really think this was the end? You should know by now...
This is interesting, to say the least. We've definitely come a long way! (Get ready for rambling) I started watching the show and checking the fandom late 2013, when season 3 JUST ended. So, I wasn't around when it began, but I was close enough to see how small some things were, and got to see this community evolve throughout the years. I've seen UNBELIEVABLE works from this fandom, from art, music, animation, and even some fan-fics. I do see people who say that the community is dying, and I sadly can see why they'd say that in some cases. But, I also see people still creating INCREDIBLE content due to their inspiration and passion! I'm glad I was forcedly introduced to this fandom, and I KNOW that despite all the people who left or will leave, we'll still have a massive community that's going strong!
Wow, as someone who's been a part of the brony fandom since 2013 it really feels me up with emotions when I look back and see how strong was the brony fandom in the early days. Now that we surpassed 7 years of the show it seems like the closer we are getting to the end the more this fandom weakens. People by now either drifted away from the fandom, they couldn't find any time to spend on the show due to life and job and some of the older bronies are now starting to retire and move on. But despite all of this I will stay until the final days. And probably even stay in the fandom when G5 comes out. This show had a huge impact on my life.
You talk about endings, yet G5 starts in less time than our longest hiatus. What you forget is that the ride ends, but once you get off the only way to go is back to the beginning. No, this emptiness is temporary, G5 has a 5 year plan with it, so no one has to move on, we just have to go back to the start.
For many people myself included the show is our escape. Our safe haven from a harsh reality we often dreaded facing. It came into our lives when we needed it most. What we found was a place where we felt a sense of belonging, a sense of meaning and acceptance. For others, it was an outlet to express creativity and know that your voice would be heard. A place where anyone could be a star, where anyone could stand out amongst the crowd for what they did, not who they were. As with all great things, it too has come to pass. Like the training wheels on the bike a child is learning to ride, it gave us the support, confidence, and strength we needed in a time where we felt we had none. As we grow stronger, bolder, wiser, and older, we come into our own and lose touch with what we once were. This is how it should be, and we should all be thankful for what it gave us. Whether that’s friendship, happiness, fame, success, or something greater. We may no longer need it, we may no longer want it, but in a time when we did, it was our cure. It was our medicine.
I still think the show is really good. Maybe slightly not as good as around season 4 and 5 but still really good. The show has helped me with getting through depression and to help me get through lonely days. I've met a person through a fan group on facebook and we're starting to be good friends. If season 9 is it then, it had a great run. All great things have to end though the amount of fan content that I'm behind on will feel in for the series. Also, people aren't just going to stop making fan stuff. We will still have more pony content and maybe I'll get to go to a con for the final season. Lastly, I hope the last season and last episode will be a emotionally satisfying one.
Cool concept, you did a good job at the thing you were going for: showing how much the fandom really means to people with some of the most memorable moments from the show and the fandom. The editing, however, was kinda distracting with the footage stretching and glitches throughout the whole video. Best parts of the video are the intro and the outro with the Equestria Girls song (n o s t a l g i a). I would like to see more from you in this style, and maybe even without the ponies.
The editing didn't translate as nicely to 16:9 footage as I had hoped it would. I attempted to emulate thoroughly a VHS look, but it was difficult to keep it convincing. This is still a new style I am exploring, so I can only go up from here. There are many criticisms to be had with this video, and I'd love to compile a list of every mistake or thing I could improve on, so that I can carry it forward into the next project.
My proposed solution during early production was to "convert" the 16:9 footage into 4:3, but the problem with that was that because this video is 21:9, you use up only a very small portion of the available screen real estate, and it looked particularly bad on mobile viewings. As such, I had to keep it 16:9 where the VHS effect was thrown off substantially. Furthering this fact was how the VHS noise and distortion turned out. When it looked good, it looked great. When it looked passable, it wasn't passable.
I enjoyed this as a concept and plan to carry it forward. Thank you for the criticism and confirming what I felt. It helps me see with a clearer eye where I can improve. :)
Wow, this is hard to watch indeed

What you say in the start about Medicine really reflects to me, since MLP gave me company through a hard depression in 2013.

I guess a better way to phrase it is "I see a lot of talk about endings" not "You talk about endings" sorry for the vague pronoun.
