When it comes to Changelings, I think it's simple. Changeling main power is changing into whatever they want, and the portal changes your appearance. Because of this, I believe changeling would be immune to the changes done by the portal. Discord may also be immune simply because the portal wouldn't know what to change him into.

I thought it was based on how complex they're able to think. Like... most dragons originally were seen as just monstrous and didn't speak much nor live a "Civilized" life so to speak; however ponies and sirens and the diamond dogs do speak. The dogs wear clothes and I assume the sirens have some type of organized civilization of sorts.

Hypothesis: Dragons would become wolves, as they are the feral forms of dogs.
However, Spike was raised by ponies, and behaves very different to any other dragon. That's why he became a domestic dog.

Here are some additional questions I could think of -
What would happen if one of the animals from the human realm went through into the pony realm? For all we know, the bugs and animals could be ponies or something like it! Although, maybe the regular animals just stay as regular animals considering they exist in both worlds, though that just opens up more to talk about.
If a changeling went through the portal, would they be able to shapeshift? Would it it work the same as it does on the pony side? Would the things they can transform into stay the same or would they only be able to take the form of creatures in that dimension?

I am reminded that when Sequestrian magic was used on the Mane six, they became seaponies but Spike turned into a Puffer fish.
Maybe there's something specific about dragons that buck transformative trends?

I'd like to ague something. The statement you made "why would a literal dog become whatever the heck this is?" Well you could also ague that "why would a literal pony like apple jack become a human?" Also I think there someone you didn't take into account for the Siren's. I believe that the Siren's were just ponies that had magical artifacts and not a completely difference species of creature. I mean we've seen magic alter ones appearance in the pony world, but when they went to the human world that magic was rendered useless. We've also seen mystical artifacts like the Alicorn amulet that grant the user magic. Another part to this argument is that we've never seen magic that was apart of someone manifest into magical artifacts. Take a look and Sunset and Twilight, their unicorn and alicorn magic didn't manifest into crystal necklaces. And as one final piece of evidence, we've seen magical artifacts retain their abilities in the human world e.g the element of magic and the storm kings staff. ​​@UCD_VOth7RmckN6DbmFJa__A

I'm guessing that the portal's transformation logic might be based less on general species counterparts and more on matching the species of each specific individual's other world counterpart. There might be a universe where EG Spike is human. It just happened that the mirror led to a world with a dog version of Spike.
The mirror portal is certainly mysterious. How long has it been around? Who made it? Star Swirl? I can understand the creator setting the portal so that it would give travelers forms that would blend in with the populace, but why not include the option to keep one's form (and magic for unicorns)? And why put the other end of the portal in such a public place where anyone might see? Hmm…

In the first movie when Sunset was about to destroy the portal, Twilight said, "Fine destroy the portal, Equestria will find a way to live without my element of harmony." What would happen if Sunset actually destroyed the portal and Twilight was stuck in the human world?

Weird question: you know how human twilight became a she-demon and opened a way into the two worlds, the students that were almost falling were still human, even tho they were had crossed to the other world. If one of them were to fall through and then cross through the portal in the pony world, what do you think would happen?

In the music video “Friendship through the ages” there is a part where Sunset Shimmer is riding a horse..... this brings up even more questions

In order to figure this out, you have to ask yourself the question that is the title. How Does the Portal Work?
A portal is an opening in space that connects two points in space allowing for transit time of zero from point A to point B. In this case, it went beyond one universes spacetime and tapped into another universes spacetime. Before we talk about a dimensional or universal shift, lets talk about a spatial rift to points inside a universe. A spell is cast, via unicorn horn or alchemy or even whole spells read out loud. The first half is a location finding portion and the last part of the spell opens the rift in the location selected and a location near the caster. This is the simplest spell anyone can cast, if they know what they are doing. The spell more or less opens a wormhole that is held open by ambient magic, being manipulated by the spell, instead of exotic matter. That's it. You have a working portal. More complex spells can attach rifts to objects, like a mirror or base of a statue, but that is Star Swirl tier magic.
Now lets add dimensional travel to this. It works like before, but there needs to be something more. Discord lives in another dimension in the MLP multiverse. (I'll say this right now. The MLP universe is massive. Dimensions and universes are not the same thing. We see one universe in the FiM series and its pretty much the only universe we deal with throughout the generations. Equestria Girls is just another universe in the MLP multiverse. I say it is another universe because it has the same entities, though they aren't the same species. Now back to dimensions.) There are ways into other dimensions in the MLP universe. Some stay open, some need to be opened. But adding dimensional transportation to a portal doesn't require adding much more to the spell. Star Swirl can open portals to other to other dimensions as well as to other universes in their multiverse . Star Swirl sent the sirens to the EG universe. There is a portal to that universe, but was it made before or after the sirens were sent there? I think he may have accidentally discovered that universe and built the portal as a means to not have to keep casting a spell to open the portal. He wanted to learn about that universe and kept the portal open. He may have been limited, or limited it himself, and that is why the portal deactivates for some time before reactivating. Anyway, he saw it didn't have magic so he sent the sirens there in hopes they wouldn't be able to use the magic they had in their original universe. There may be something in the EG universe that has enough magic to activate the portal when it gets close enough or shows fully somehow and that could be why it does open and close after a while. I have another theory but I'm getting sidetracked.
Opening a portal to another universe requires there to be something powerful in play. I believe it was the fact that it was Star Swirl, and not just a spell from a book, that allows the portal to open. The spell is linked to a consciousness. But that would require a consciousness to be able to recognize it. So that brings me to this. But first, lets recap.

Portals open by a spell. There are at the very least three types of portals. Inside a universe. To other dimensions (inside the same universe.) And multiversal portals. It requires someone to knock and someone to answer to open a portal to another universe.

Not a ghost. They cannot use the spell to travel like that because they have no vessel. Lets talk about the mind stone. It contained a consciousness and was essentially power that has been concentrated into its most pure and powerful form. In our universe, we haven't been given that cosmic power in a stone form. It just exists as an intangible force. It mostly isn't believed it exists, but it does. Even if the other forms of power the infinity stones represent doesn't exist, the "Mind Stone" exists for the purpose of granting access to the multiverse. In the MLP universe, it isn't represented in any way whatsoever. It isn't the Elements of Harmony, even though there are six of them. The Elements exist apart from what is known as the Infinity Stones. Every universe has the equivalent to the mind stone. This is what allows the portal to open to the EG universe.

That consciousness sees the species and determines what it would best be in the universe it is entering based off of Universal Entity Recognition. Does this entity exist in the universe it is entering? If so, then it will look exactly like that entity. If not, then hey! Why not have fun, am I right? Just don't go trying to open a portal through the multiverse to MLP-0 because I don't think you would like what travel there does to human physiology.

I think we are all overlooking the fact that the sirens were sent to the human world via different means and not the portal. It was Starswirl's magic that sent them there, not the portal.

Maybe it could also be age related combined with species considering spike is a baby dragon and recognised as the portal as less mature but a subservient and still intelligent species a dog would be the fit.

And sci twi would throw a wrench in this except she's a Twilight that hasn't reached her full potential yet thus still a unicorn while pony twilight has therego a alicorn but I'm not sure if their human appearances vary that much beyond wardrobe and highlights ...maybe pony twi is a little taller ...i don't know .

Dragons (mostly use 2 legs) -> dog (4 legs)

heres what i think the creatures would be (based on what they've been through and based on what animal they represent a bit)
Ponies: Human
Dragons: Dogs/Wolves
Griffin's: Bird/Leopard
Changelings: Anything
Hippogriffs: Human/Mermaid/man
Yacht: Human/Buffalo

Heres why i think changelings can turn to anything, in their forms in equestria, they can change to any creature, so i think when they go throught the mirror, they have to think on what they want to be, for example thorax goes through, if he thinks of a human, he will be a human, if he thinks of a ladybug, he will be one.

I believe, that the crucial thing isn't the character's spices, but their position instead.

"Independent and free" characters like Twilight and the blue griffin become humans. The same clearly appears on sirens.

For example the Diamond dogs live independently in the cave, so in human world they would be men who live independently.

And characters' sidekicks/pets become dogs and other pets we know. Spike lives as Twilight's pet/sidekick, so he remains the same position in human world. That's why he became a dog

When a changeling goes in the portal; From it's name, it depends on what form it took prior to going in the portal.
Old form = leech
New form = Random from Dragonfly, Bees and Butterfly to Housefly (Insect type with crystal/clear type wings)
Copy forms = same as the original of that form
The exemptions: Age, strength of magic and power of magic (If anyone wants to keep there looks they can but it would translate to what animal counterpart there is closes to there original form)
Young Spike = Dog (Young age, low in magic)
Older (Buff) spike = Human bar bouncer spike lol

You should show what all different creatures that are known and steamed in many of the episodes let's see what they would be through the portal to turn ponies into humans

Here's a question: why must a changeling necessarily turn into anything else upon exiting the portal? Their whole thing is that they already transform, so would the portal just force them to change form, but not much else? Could they simply turn back upon exiting the swirling thing, or are they stuck to single form? If they're stuck into a single form, wouldn't they find the inability to change disturbing, as if somecreature just lopped off their horn?

personally i think all sapients become human unless their life story requires them to be something else in a human context. spike was basically adopted by twilight, which in the human world would only really make direct sense with a dog, so spike, and specifically spike, becomes a dog

While I think bugs are likely for changelings, and the portal demagicifies things, I also think changelings would become... changelings, like the human <-> fairy kind in folklore. They would seem perfectly human but like how the pony-humans sometimes sprout tails/ears/wings as appropriate, the changelings would take on fae traits: fairy wings, maybe not shape-shifting but glamour, etc. Like the diamond dogs they likely look a bit different than ordinary humans, maybe they are taller or shorter than usual (as the pony humans already have kinda fae proportions).

Maybe the portal uses chaos magic. Chaos magic seems random

I think the portal might be more of a sorting hat- type deal, analyzing what makes more sense for the character and their intent when going through the portal. Spike is loyal to Twilight like a dog, and if he was human, I’d imagine he’d have been more like a kid, but then, it’s a lot harder to hide a child in your backpack on a high school campus than a dog.

Twilight and Spike as an example, Spike is Twilight's best friend and is loyal helpful to her, giving him categories of dogs towards their human friends

Changelings have the ability to create their own unique pony form (i.e., Chrysalis as a unicorn photographer), so one would most likely take on a human form analog to what the unique pony form would be. I think it'd be on a case-by-case basis for dragons, mainly based on what position/profession they would hold in Equestria. While I currently have no explanation for Diamond Dogs becoming human, it could be possible for any sentient species in Equestria to translate that way.

What if it depends on their self-image/identity? While most others turn human because they see themselves as individuals separate from anyone else, could Spike have turned into a dog because of his faithfulness and loyalty to Twilight? He identifies as her companion and helper. What better exemplifies these traits than that of a canine companion?

Here's my thoughts:

1. Since this is a parallel world with alternate versions of the same characters, I'm willing to bet that the Sirens just simply have human counterparts in that world somewhere.

2. Let's not forget that, in the comics, Star Swirl created many of these portals in the past during his experiments. One that he and Tia jumped through led to a prehistoric world and they didn't turn into dinos, suggesting that the transformation probably needs to be 'programmed' into the portal's abilities. He most likely added this ability to the one that leads to the human world in order for users to blend in and survive in the alternate world. Also, portals that most likely naturally exists, such as the one found on that island in the human world, might already have this ability by chance. Those portals that Midnight Sparkle (SciTwi's dark version) created doesn't seem to have that transforming ability. If you can recall, pony Twilight's hand did show as a hoof when she tested the portal after arriving in the human world in the first EQ movie. However, when humans were hanging partly through MS's portals in the Friendship Games movie, their lower half of their bodies didn't transform.

3. Here's a big one that this vid didn't cover. Cross breeding abilities of different characters in one world could have an impact on what they are in the other world, since this would impact if they can have offspring in the other world as well as family relationship. With this thought, one would wonder if diamond dogs and equestrian ponies are able to have kids. I know that sounds crazy, but let's not forget the inter-species breeding that is possible with Mobians from Sonic the Hedgehog's world. Pokémon also have this ability. In fact, there is probably evidence that it has happened in the pony world already, since hippogriffs are allegedly the half breeds of griffons and equines, according to mythology. This could be a strong indication that griffons and hippogriffs might also be human in the human world.

4. Another thought that you might be interested in is how agelessness would impact the existence of characters in each world. We all know that alicorns are ageless. However, humans, such as Tia and Luna's counterparts, aren't going to be ancient, yet they exist. Reincarnation is a possible route for continuous existence when agelessness is not available. With this in mind, the hidden mechanism behind reincarnation could simply be the existence of an ageless counterpart in another world.

5. Here's a fun one. Has anyone ever wondered what a pony from the human world would turn into if they went through the portal to Equestria? We do know that such creatures exist in the human world, but they can't cross-breed with humans. If my breeding theory above had any merit, then they would have to become something else. Who knows what that would be. 😲

I think it doesn't have to do with the species at all? I think the mirror portal finds your counterpart in the human world and turns you into their form. At least that's what I've always thought since the first EG movie was released

I think that the portal picks which race someone from Equestria should be, depending on the first entry. Magic works in mysterious ways.

When you think about it being able to use magic like the one to give them wings and ears doesn't make since. Obviously it’s some sort of shapeshifting magic but the thing is that’s not a kinda of magic in either world. (Side note my head cannon kinda goes like this: both worlds started with the same magic but they evolved differently and the humans can’t use the magic like ponies can) but shapeshifting is something we’ve only seen once in changelings (And whether or not changelings are even part of this world of its magic is a whole other can of worms) think about it besides changelings and the human world there hasn’t been any kind of shapeshifting going on I mean I guess you could kinda count becoming an alicorn to that but that’s a bit of a stretch and they don’t seem to have much in common with changings..unless the world was changelings that formed themselves into humans and generations later they only now touch back into that magic because of the exposure to equestrian magic but only the ones who were really exposed can and only the smallest things like ears or wings and that would be the first things they transform to again cause that’s what they had centuries before……..nah that’s impossible. The portal is so inconsistent. Spike’s counterpart is a dog, but the Diamond Dogs’ counterpart are humans, but then Winona’s counterpart is still a dog.

I personally think if a pony has a pet, then if the pet goes through the portal they would be a pet. (For example, spike = dog) Even tho spike is not considered a pet entirely, i still count him as twilights pet.
but if a normal dragon goes through that is not "owned" by anyone they would most likely be a human.

The one's you put in the equin colum can actually become something else not just humans. For example zebras will stay as zebras. And buffalo will stay buffalo. And Yaks will stay Yaks. And nonquine such as Griffin's would become lion's or Eagle. And a a changeling would become a bug or a pony.

In his (adult-roriented) fanfiction Off the Mark novel series, author Bernard Doove describes it as the result of an adaptation spell on the mirror portal which changes a traveler to Equestria into a lifeform which suits them most. Maybe this theorem can also be applied here?

I think it is about dependence: spike is like an assistant of Twilight and counts on her for his life (a dog or pet-like feature) but twilight,, the sirens and diamond dogs work for themselves and are independent (a human-like feature).

spike while intelligent play's an almost subservient role to twilight, a willing one but still almost the role of a pet of sorts. so maybe their form on the human side is determined by how they view themselves not just what they are.

I'd say it's dependent on the role the creatures play in the story. Ponies are basically our point of view characters. Spike is twilights assistant and loyal companion. Dogs (as a pet) are often seen as very loyal and helpful companions.
The diamond dogs aren't pets, but antagonists to rarity and the main six. So they are similar enough to be seen as humans.
Creatures similar to horses or that can be seen as pov characters, antagonists or protagonists are human. Cranky, the donkey from ponyville is a human. I imagine that dragons are going to be a weird grey area, but they could always be werewolves or something. They're seen as one of the more savage species in the series, so wolves in general would suit them. Which makes sense since spike (a dog) is more tamed and civilised.

But most likely, they just didn't care about a system and just went "what would look good or be interesting to transform this character into? "

Here's why I think the Diamond Dogs didn't stay dogs. One possibility could be that they are not pets. Because the Mane Six's pets in the human world were just like they were in the pony world. Another possibility could be that they are very unusual dogs. I mean, first of all, their tongues are blue....There is no such thing as a blue-tongued dog in the human world.

i've been thinking that it's mostly all sentient creatures that become humans, and the reason spike was a dog was because he was pre-molt, if he goes through the portal now, post-molt, he'd be human

I actually have a hypothetical answer to this one. It's imperfect, but it's an answer.
My own writing has "humans shapeshifting into animals" as a possibility, and even has "humans born with the power to become animals" as an option. However, there are some rules for what animal they can become, and the most relevant for this situation is probably size: no matter what a human shapeshifts into, they are always the same weight as what they started as (unless external magic is involved, but that exception doesn't apply to born animal-shifters). Full-size horses are too big and heavy for humans to become, but ponies are the right size. Most dogs are too small to shapeshift into, but some breeds are large enough.
There's another rule for my shapeshifting that would have to be thrown out for this theory to apply fully, because they've canonically already broken it (four limbs only; pegasi and alicorns have six limbs, and according to that shot sirens only have two, but they've all become humans when going through the portal). But the size thing could make sense; telling scale in Equestria is difficult because there are no actual humans for reference, but comparing those creatures to their real-life counterparts where applicable and to each other when there's not an irl counterpart, we can probably make some decent guesses. Equestrian equines clearly are the right size to become humans; probably anything that's the same size as a pony would also make the cut (yaks and buffalo are too big).
My theory for what happens with dragons is that...there might never be a time when a dragon's size matches up to a human in any meaningful way. Spike is a baby dragon, and he's small enough to ride on a pony without weighing them down too much (ten pounds?). He'd be a toddler if he went through that mirror and came out human on the other side (determination to be helpful to Twilight probably is what turned him into a dog, which would be "adult" at that size and a believable companion). I'm also guessing that by the time a dragon is considered properly "adult" it's larger than a pony; too large to become even an adult human. If there is a period of time where a dragon could go through that mirror and become a human, it'd be a pretty slim one probably centered on the dragon equivalent of teen years.

In my theory, I think pets from the Pony World will stay as pets in the human world. If you are considered a pet despite what creature you are, you become a pet. So since Spike is considered Twilight's pet since he kinda is one, he is converted into a dog because of Spike being domesticated in nature, like how dogs were domesticated by humans. If the creature's species are already existing in the human world, they wouldn't get converted. That's my take about form conversion in MLP.

I think for changelings it depends on the form. If I’m their original state they become a bug. Reformed become butterflies, unreformed ladybugs.

We need to know where is the human sunset shimmer there has been a human version of almost everypony

personally always saw it as being a mental problem, spike always felt like he does not belong at least subconscious so the portal turned him into dog

I think that a bigger possibility might be that like how spike became a dog, twighlights human self had a pet dog named spike with the same facial features, maybe whatever that is most connected to their portal self will be what depends on what they become, so that means that if the other creatures come through the portal, that means that what ever is closest to their portal selves is what they become. I think hypogriff would become frogs, cuz yknow silver stream, griffins become some sort of bird depending on their personality, changelings become chameleons, and that's all I can think of for now. Or perhaps it's personality based seeing that a dragon should become a lizard or something reptilian. Or maybe it's if your equine or hooved if your not either you automatically become a human or humanoid because that solves the diamond dogs.

I think the Portal has some kind of Automagical process that idenifys your essence or core, transmutes your body and shapes clothing around you that fits your "Cutiemark" and personality.

The Eq Girls always dress around their theme or character, sure it cux the designers made them like that but it could be a subtler magic working behins the scenes. We know alot of stuff exists but there even morw subtler stuff we sussed out and ib EqG maybe who they are manifests ideas for designers inshow to make it just for the characters.

My headcanon is that changelings become fae, since they're vaguely pony-shaped but more bug-based (sort of like how fae look mostly human but aren't really) and because their name and abilities are loosely tied to real fae mythology. ^u^

I'm wondering, does what you turn into when you go through the portal have some link with personality or social status with others? Becuase, Spike turned into a dog, and in the pony world, Spike has a son/pet relationship with twilight, kind of like you would with a dog.

I think that the relationship between age in equestria and ‘human’ world is sublinear or logarithmic.

To me it sounds like the portal just turns whatever goes through it into anything it wants to turn them into. Even if it means turning them into an abomination. (The grey human things)

The portal too the EQG world really and how it works really is a strange phenomenon, in fact what usually puzzles me about when pony characters go through the portal and they turn human they end up wearing clothes as well as if they were a natural part of their molecular strutcure or something...i mean i know it was just to keep the movie PG but still...basically what i;m saying is that it's interesting how when the ponies enter the portal wearing nothing at all the portal itself seems to magically clothe the pony in question sort of like magical molecular structural bonding it's a scientific thing, surely on some level you all see where i'm going with this.

I propose that flurry being born with wings symbolizes her destiny as a future great ruler. She could be the first Queen equestria has had, but I don't think that is the case. Celestia had the same future and great potential, as did luna, but she wasn't born with wings. If flurry heart's destiny is sealed just like that, wings would represent it. Flurry heart will be the princess of destiny.

I think they just change to match their counterpart in that world. Spike is a dog because his other self is a dog; if Ember's counterpart was sheep then she would become that as well. Spike is the only dragon character we've seen so we don't know if all members of a species turn into the same thing.

So... if someone got out of Tartarus and set a real in the portal, per say a piece of string just inside two dimensional layer of the portal. hey sawtooth i have a theroy about the first episode. we know celestia went missing and no one knew what happened to her but when twilight and the others defeat nightmare moon and the sun begins to rise (on its own i might add) celestia seems to appear from inside the sun. my theory is this: nightmare moon trapped celestia in the sun as a sort of punishment in nightmare moon's mind and had hoped she would stay there for at least a thousand years but celestia having raised both the sun and moon for a thousand years she was naturally stronger in her magic and could break out any time but chose to wait until the elements had come together and twilight found the magic of friendship. this would suggest that celestia knew all along what was to happen.

I think it's more like what is the creature that goes throuth induvidually, Sike is Twilights assitsant and he became a pet. Spike is very much Twilights friend and not pet but if you look at it Spike is kind of the wizards goblin servent kind of thing which makes him a dog in the human world persona. If Ember went into the portal she would prob be a human because she is indipendant and more like that sort of thing and if like the first big dragon we saw in season 1 would be prob a bear or something. So like less of race and more of job, lifestyle and etc. (sorry for bad spelling)

Okay, I have an idea on why Spike turned into a dog. Dogs are pets and companions to humans. And while Spike isn’t exactly a pet to Twilight, he is a companion. He is always there for Twilight, and helps her whenever she needs help. Kinda like how dogs are always there for their owners. Dogs know when we’re feeling down. Dogs help us. So I don’t have an answer on what Griffins or Changelings would be like in the human world, but this was my theory on why Spike transformed into a dog.

to be fair dragon are known as shape shifter... so maybe spike took the form of a dog by random... as in he could had the ability to change shape as in human lore dragon can take on the form of other creature. I think that the reason that Spike turned into a dog is to reference the fact that he is the most loyal to Twilight Sparkle. He went against Celestia who wanted it to just be a journey for Twilight to take. Plus dogs are often the first thing people think of when it comes to the word loyalty. I think its more than just if it's a dragon it will automatically be a dog. I think the mirror CHOSE for Spike to take on the form of a dog since it is the form that was most appropriate.

Well, The Equestria’s Magic and The Human World’s Magic works differently so The Changelings might have lost or have some of their changing ability decreased. Like maybe instead of having the ability to change into almost anything they might just have the ability to change into one or a couple different things.

Here is how i think it works. The human world is an alternate world, im starting to get the fact that there is an exact opposite of how equastrian creatures stand and how they stand in the alternate world. Most creatures if not all that stand on 4 legs in equestira stands on 2 legs in the human world. Other creatures that stand on 2 legs in equestria stand on 4 legs in the human world. Im not talking about how they would look but how they stand, this could give a further look on how other Equestrian Creatures would look in the human world.

I actually do have a question. So, Twilight goes through the portal and is in HIGH SCHOOL, meaning she is a teenager. So are her friends. But, Twilight and her friends seem to be ADULT ponies in Equestria, so.... how does the portal work age wise? Is just because ponies have shorter life spans? Spike was born out of an egg twilight helped him and became his "owner" and that's why he follows her even tho he has his own free will and can think and talk but what if their relationship is what manifested him to turn into a dog as how a dog is loyal to it's owner and respect them and that all ?

What about the other creatures from outside Equestria? There's a wide variety of them, as we see in the MLP movie. Like what about that cat guy? Would he just be a regular cat in the human world? He acts like a pony, and so does most of the other creatures he lives with. And to some extent, he looks like a human as well!

I would guess it has something to do with how the person Wiews themself or how others wiew that person, since spike pretty much lived like a pet (he slept in a dogbed, and gote treats fore being a good boy) the mirror gave him the form most suted fore him... a pet form.

I think it's based of personally so most characters would become human however spike becomes a dog because he's an assistant to Twilight but other dragons may become something else.

Which is why i dont think Winona would turn humanoid like the diamond dogs, because Winona is a domesticated dog, and would likely remain a domesticated animal who cant talk, unlike spike.

Ok so like, I think since the horse is an animal the horse would be non-sentient. Once the horse went through the portal it would automatically become sentient, yet still be a horse. However, going back through the portal would not change the fact it is already sentient. It is like how EQG Twilight's spike went through the portal and back and could talk. Equestrias spike also did not stop being sentient once going through the portal. I've also heard that this could be how equastria was founded, but this couldnt be true since both portals seemed to be man made. Heres a random idea even though this is a month old, maybe spike didn't become a dog because he was a dragon. Maybe its a sort of destiny thing of its own, something letting the mirror know spike was ment to be a companion and what compainion is better than a small dog. It's a bit guessy but I feel like it isn't too impossible.

One thing, in equestrian girls we also see angel as a bunny just like he is in in the pony realm, he doesn’t change. I also have seen a few other animals that don’t change in the worlds, so I think that the regular animals that exist in real life stay the same. Great video though😜😜😜!!

I'm pretty sure that changlings would become humans. After all if there were not a human then they would just keep their form because they can change. It would also make more sense to be a changling and change as a human more than a pony or another creature in the human world. They could also become a bug. After all changlings aren't really ponies, their insects. I'm not so sure about the insect one thought. I still feel that it would make more sense for a changling to become a human.

may be highly magical beings become humans. Humans have higher intellect than other beings so higher magical beings become higher intellectual beings ( humans). I am not saying humans are the only smart beings in the same way ponies are not the only ones with magic, but they are the ones to puts their 'power' to use.

It could be that it has to do with something that isn't at all related with species? Any creature in charge of it's self or wasn't forced hatched would be humans. Where as pets remain pets and creatures which were assisted became animals/ pets.

The common thread might be how civilized they are? I mean, diamond dogs have technology like minecarts and harnesses. Whereas dragons live in a more animalistic way, living in caves and fighting for rank. It might be based on how civilized or human-acting the species is that determines what they become. And the sirens weren't wholly human, but they did seem forced into that role. Their magic was forced into gems, but they still got to keep their magic nonetheless. If anything, the sirens would be classified as witches, technically humans but more. Like being human+ lol. It might be less about their biological connection that determines what they become, but rather their societal connection.

Perhaps it's just mascots? Like, for example If Fluttershy went through the portal she'd be human but Angel would be still be a bunny.
