Faust told me that Discord was supposed to be a “mistake” that was made by Equestria, as if the world itself accidentally made him. Your latest verdict legit could just be it.

Also on my 3 part series on what being a “spirit” means, it’s possible he’s not been the only spirit of chaos, there could have been iterations of some kind, before him.

Anyway I’m done with all this, the show is over and they won’t throw us a bone, so I’m just gonna wait until G5 and pray -.-

I googled "Draconequus" a while back for some drawing inspiration but instead found something about the six Draconequus spirits; Chaos, Malice, Entropy, Darkness and Illusion. Since we have one, Discord, spirit (draconequus) of chaos, we most likely have more of them considering there are six elements that combine into spirit of harmony then maybe discord is actually a combination of the draconequus spirits... Not me having a realisation of why we haven't seen anyone like him right when I'm typing this.....

i kinda agree that discord be made from the tree because its so weird that in "twilight's kingdom" discord already knew that the tree was important and the chest was useful, he also knew how the chest would be opened using the friendship journal he book-marked, its obvious discord has a connection to the tree...

This is kind of unrelated to Discord’s timeline, but I noticed that the timeline when Tirek and Scorpan visited Equestria just doesn’t add up. In the flashback, we see that Sorpan befriended a young wizard, who appears to be Starswirl the Bearded. But this doesn’t make sense since the two royal sisters were already grownup. Luna commented in Shadow Play Part 1 that, “We never met the other Pillars, and we were too young to understand the dangers that they faced.” (Also she referenced that they don’t even know who the Pony of Shadows is.) By the time Celestia and Luna were grown up, the Pillars would have already trapped the Pony of Shadows in Limbo and Starswirl would have been there with them.

One thing that I've always wondered was the Mean Six... You mentioned a lot about balance but there can't be harmony without disharmony but I just never understood why there are no elements of disharmony... We see the elements of harmony all the time but disharmony? we only have chaos... so are there others? I personally think that there could be since the tree instantly killed the mean six who you would expect to really balance out everything which could show that there are already embodiments of disharmony existing...

Discord is a “spirit of chaos” if he does not have chaos to survive, he wisps away.

Discord's voice actor also played the character 'Q' in star trek. he was also known for playing cruel jokes on others.

I prefer to believe that Discord is a force of nature. A manifestation of entropy. (Either that or Q is just bored of messing with Picard and found a new outlet)

my theory is that discord came to be the moment chaos started to exist, kind of like kwamis in mlb. take trix, for example. she only came to be during the first form of illusion
discord might have only gained powers after enough chaos was present. Discord could have existed when Grogar did, he just didn't have enough power to conquer equestria.
the first instance of harmony created the spirit of harmony, which took form of the tree of harmony and the elements, and then the treehouse of harmony. The two spirits were created possibly at the same time to create a balance.

Discord said " you pony's are the most fun I had in eons." So he way older then Luna and Celestia so time could fit.

If you take a look at Tirek and Scorpan you notice that they are also made of of different parts that in Tirek’s case didn’t separate when their magic was taken away, Discord could be one of the members of this kingdom which would explain why he knows who king Vorak is as Discord mentioned him is the finale.

In the episode " The Return of Harmony, when Ms. Cheerilee said "this is a Draconequus" pointing at the statue of discord. So discord is a draconequus and when you search the word draconequus up it shows pictures of him. All the evidence says that discord is a draconequus. hope this is helpful :))

Ok ok. What if discord was a baby so he had time he needed time to grow. And if you need a time to grow, then that’s why we didn’t see him until the episode so it could be that he was a baby so he had to grow up.

I recently had some thoughts about the "Did Grogar create Discord?" topic. It's somewhat linked to a separate idea that I'm hoping to make my own post about later.
We never see how Grogar made his monsters in the show. He could have made them from scratch by mixing magic samples from different species. He might have used one creature as a base and infused them with magic from other animals similar to how Fluttershy became a bat-pony. Either method could have resulted in the creation of a draconequus.
Regarding the time gap between Discord's possible birth and his "debut", maybe some kind of stasis spell was involved. After all, there are spells that can turn living beings into stone or make an entire empire vanish and remain frozen in time for centuries. And let's not forget Star Swirl's Limbo spell.
Another idea is that there were some "monster ingredients" left after Grogar's banishment that were somehow mixed together and brought to life through a series of chance events…like spilled chemicals struck by a bolt of lightning. I'm not too sure about this scenario, but it could happen considering how the changelings were apparently born from a rotten acorn that fell into a magical pond in one MLP comic.

I have one (minor) issue with your timelines: you always assume that Discord showed up when the Tree of Harmony was fully grown - but what if his reign had gone on for far longer, after the Pillars' disappearance, but long before the tree matured? The Sisters would have been forced to flee, only returning to Equestria upon hearing tales of "Elements" that could defeat Discord to be found beneath their old castle. Recall how they reacted to seeing the Tree of Harmony - as if for the first time, or at least the first time in this form.

Given their lifespans, this period of time could have been arbitrarily long, too...

My used to be theory:
Discord was born by parents, of course lmao but maybe they didn't want a creature of chaos as their child so they sent him away. Discord grew up lonely and sad and when he figured he was a creature of chaos, that was how he was supposed to act. Celestia and luna came to stop him and he hated Celestia ever since. When he was freed, he wanted to destroy Twilight and her friends because they were trying to stop him. And then, in 'keep calm and flutter on' he said he never actually had a friend before. Discord has a soft side, and Fluttershy gave him a chance. But then when she said she is not his friend, he didn't like it. He had cried, and he turned it back because of Fluttershy not being his friend anymore. He's now reformed, and that's that. My used to be theory

I have a problem with the theory that the Tree of Harmony pulled Discord into Equestria. There are just so many clashing references to his timeline that you didn’t include. For example, the Smooze. At the Grand Galloping Galla, when Discord was introducing the Smooze, he said, “You don’t think I have other friends? I’m centuries old!” (Emphasis on centuries old) Also he knows Tirek’s father, King Vorack. If he was just pulled into the world by the Tree of Harmony and then was turned to stone by Celestia and Luna, there is no way he could have known these two since he was busy reining chaos down on Equestria and then trapped in stone. Another thing is that in Where To and Back Again, Discord says, “I haven’t walked that far in a millennia.” I know that this seems to be an exaggeration, but I think it might be an actual reference to his timeline.

This entire theory makes me want like a comedy duo of Spirit of Harmony and Discord being frenemies. Would also give a chance to make an original design/personality for the Spirit so we don’t have to deal with creepy sparkly twilight

If the Tree of Harmony was created from the combined magic and traits of the Pillars, maybe Discord was born from ambient energies of conflict and disharmony from various beings in Equestria (ponies, dragons, griffons, etc.). That's assuming he was born in Equestria and not in "Chaosville" where his house is.
The fading away failsafe theory reminds me of the Soot Sprites in Spirited Away, who need to work or the magic that animates them will fade away. As for the part about spreading fear vs. spreading chaos, I had a thought about that. There's an episode of Gargoyles where the trickster Puck saves Elisa's life by twisting Demona's wish to "rid me of that human". He changes Elisa into a gargoyle, technically fulfilling the requirements of the demand. If Discord had been told to cause trouble for the ponies, he could have exploited any loopholes he could find to do things HIS way.

I remember hearing a theory where the draconequus were the native species to equestria, but ponies started their kingdom and hunted the Draconequus to extinction, with discord being one of the only left, it's kinda confusing but it would make sense depending on how you saw it

While I have never seen the series as a whole (bits and pieces mostly) discord became one of my favorite characters fast and understanding his origin is one of the best things that has happened

I love the theory of the yin and yang. I could imagine when chaos grew with all the issues that took place in equestria in the time of Luna and Celestia. His spirit got stronger and then he turned from a chaos spirit to an actual body. And so he actually appeared, and his appearance was of chaos. Multiple creatures combined in one. He also can change his appearance constantly so maybe he chooses to look the way he is now because it's his preference. And he labeled himself a draconaquis. So that's how he was referred discord the draconaquis. Kind of like the tree how it keeps transforming. I also like the theory of him being friends with Luna and Celestia until they stopped paying attention to him. We all have seen what happens when the main six didn't involve him. He would get passive aggressive and start toying with them. I could see peace among the alicorns and him until he got bad. Due to jealousy. And maybe it's why she believes that he could reform with a friend's help with fluttershys help. Because she used to be friends with him.

I understand why you brushed aside the starswirl theory, but I think it might be possible.

Starswirl was a powerful unicorn who had created many spells and such. As a test of his capabilities, he attempted creating a spirit. He understood the idea of yin-yang, and created something ever so slightly chaotic to "spice things up". Starswirl soon lost control of his creation, it going off to do whatever. (idk, this theory isn't super fleshed out) Starswirl and the gang were sent to limbo, weakening discord's bond to order. As the tree of harmony grew, discord grew to balance it. In time discord, being a physical creature, was able to spread chaos faster than the (still growing) tree of harmony could spread order. Soon, the world was enveloped in chaos. The sisters (celestia and luna) used the full force of the elements against discord, trapping him in stone. for now. ALSO------- about the whole fading away thing, when discord lost the one thing that made him chaotic, (which btw, being chaotic is his his sole purpose) He was seen as "no longer needed in the balance of equestria" and thus began to vanish.

Like always Brony Notion, another excellent and superb theory vid i love it, and also like always you make some good and or valid points.

This is a very late comment but, regarding the ‘very new and young’ type theory on the harmony tree pulling out discord, its like we see him getting older and maturing. Finding friendship and knowing when chaos is needed and when its not, etc, like getting older and learning things of the sort

I actually thought up your theory right when you started to explain it. But I think it’s a little more that the Tree of Harmony and Discord already existed before hand but in a more spiritual way before the Tree we f Harmony was given a physical form by Starswirl and the other pillars and Discord gained a physical form because of it he just got to choose what form he wanted as his base and did so by combining the various physical parts of multiple creatures.

Thank you for the video! It is really fascinating. One problem I see with this theory is the fact that in Twilight's Kingdom, Tirek refers to Discord as a legend and definitely someone he had already known before. It kind of implies that Discord is far older than Tirek which would mean in turn that Discord was not the product of ToH. So, I believe that Discord had existed long before the point in the timeline you had outlined.

My hypothesis is that Discord used to be Grogar but then Gusty the Great somehow found a way to turn his powers against him, maybe using the Bewitching Bell. The bell removed a large portion of Grogar's powers, MAINLY: the portion that allowed him to control his magic. Once Gusty had done that - Grogar's immense power gone haywire and deformed him into the creature that became Discord. Gusty figured that if she could not defeat him - she would make him less organized, because it's better to have a powerful goofball who does whatever than a powerful malicious villain who will definitely mean you harm.

However, in Season 2, once freed, Discord went on to immediately conquer Equestria, why did he not do this back when Scorpan and Tirek had invaded? Because, after stealing the bell, Gusty had banished him to the shadow realm. Or, rather, chaos realm. In there, Grogar looked for ways to return to Equestria, but residing in the chaos realm changed him and, in time, he became chaos incarnate. This would explain how Chaos, a force that should not have a vessel (cuz it's chaotic), could manifest itself into one creature. Because Grogar was THAT powerful, and he continued hoarding more power while in the chaos realm. Grogar serves the same function to chaos as a bottle does for water. As a side note, I also found it very peculiar that Discord could imitate Grogar so well without ever cracking up or doing something goofy, it just seems out of character for him to be THAT serious, unless Grogar really is someone he used to be.

Here is my theory:
Discord may have been created the moment the tree was planted as an accidental experiment trying to create a new, more powerful pony. Star swirl created the final figure of an alicorn later btw. The "parents" of Discord could have abandoned him for not being perfect. He grew up to be a chaotic, evil monster and was raised by evil ponies and creatures who kept adopting and abandoning him. Soon, he learnt to fend for himself and took over Equestria. Then Celestia and Luna turned him into stone. After a lot of rambling around, Opaline found Discord. This was probs in the after season 9. She gave him a job to try to give her dragon dust. Because he is friends with the owner of A DRAGON, he successfully gave her the dragon dust. He probs lured Spike to give him the dust as a "souvenir". That is what the statement at the end of chapter 1 of make your mark is about. Anyways that's my theory!

Just to add to this, yin and yang can topple each other - that’s when disequilibrium happens, aka change. The concept is just that it reaches a new state, whether growing or destructive, or restabilises to what it was before. The yin yang is suppose to swirl in circle: think of it like this, in its (clockwise) motion, when black is on the left, it’s also slight on top. That’s autumn, a transitionary state or process. When black reaches the top, it’s winter, more of a state than process. Then white, at the bottom, proceeds upwards, to the left. That’s spring. When it reaches the top, it’s summer. Then the cycle repeats.
To add, yin and yang doesn’t necessarily mean sth bad and good, like chaos and harmony. In fact, you’re more correct to associate yin with harmony and yang with chaos. Yin kinda is absence of energy, like the act of reservation and absorption, like lack of warmth in winter, which too much of it is like an implosion. Yang is energetic, and too much of it is chaotic, lack of cold to stop the rising summer heat, like an explosion.
Just a subtle redefinition of the yin yang thing. In the end, it still supports the theory cuz too much of one or the other is destructive in itself, that’s why it’s reasonable that the princess wishes to reform Discord to good chaos

My theory is that discord came from the everfree forest. When the pillars planted the tree of harmony the forest sensed it and wanted it destroyed. So it started to form a creature and that creature was discord. When discord planted the seeds they were black and the trees in the forest are more darker colored. When the seeds started growing they were most intense in the forest. what proved that wrong is because the tree was in the forest

When you take into account real life segments of mythology that the draconequus are lightly based on a plausible answer to discord's (and the other spirits which exist but we haven't seen in this show) existence is the idea that he himself is infact a true god. Not a magically crafted god, e.g. celestia. Or was created by higher gods.

really good, though imo it's "advanced tactics" to have planted seeds, I'd be surprised that Discord would be so young and unexperimented when he did that. But that would explain how he got so naive in season 2's opening, which I always thought was bizarre for a centuries old spirit. You need a serious dose of overconfidence to be that blinded into thinking breaking friendship once was enough and no more monitoring was required.

This makes sense honestly, it would also explain why Discord looks the way he does. If the Tree of Harmony actually did pull him into existence as a counter being of chaos, it would have difficulty choosing what the being would look like as it would be of pure chaos, creating an amalgamation in the...well, chaos of it all.

Well I think with the first two theories depending on what age he spawned in the world he could have had to grow up and if it was star swirl who created him he could have learned some good lessons so it took him longer to rebel

this is where i’m confused. tirek already knew discord before the episode where tirek stole equestrian magic, and on your timeline tirek was around before the tree of harmony. did discord meet tirek another time or was discord around when tirek was ‘hearing stories about grogar’?

But in the two part changling finale, Discord says “I haven’t walked this far in millennia” maybe he was alive but only gained enough straight after the tree.

My theory came from how he was introduced. In the first episode we see him, he breaks out of the stone because of the arguing (or ‘chaos/disharmony’ around him). My thought was maybe that is how he came to be. There cannot be a world without disagreements and a bit of chaos here and there. My theory is that when disharmony came into creation, when past people argued the first time, Discord kinda just popped into existence. I think he would start off as a yin yang thing, and contribute, but then eventually desired power and attempted to take over, resulting in the first time he was turned to stone.

Ok, we NEED to see Discord interact with the Spirit of Harmony before G5

There is still one thing that kind of sits in the way of the “starswirl created Alicorns” theory.
Why didn’t he become one?
He technically created a new kind of magic by combining them all, right?

Discord was made by star swirl and star swirl thought it would be devastrophical to equestria so he trapped discord for a long time, but every year he would have to cast the spell again. When he went to limbo, he couldn’t cast the spell so overtime he broke out and made all of equestria chaos. What do you think, am I correct? Tell me in the reply section!

i have an interesting theory. according to your alicorn theory starswirl made an enchantment that would turn anypony into a alicorn provided that they had expanded on magic. we know discord has his own chaos magic this discovery could have triggered starswirl's enchantment but since discord by origin probably wasnt a pony the enchantment continued is progress and might have blended him with other random creatures. his immense power would have probably came from the fact that choas magic might as base be very powerful and spent a few years honing his power to reach his level today

I think that with the previous theories about him being a creation of Grogar, that he was OUTSIDE of (Canon) reality, because of this quote

"You know I could just *Show* you how to use my magic, it would give you power over ALL creation"

I was thinking about that, and I thought about Discord’s dimension making, so maybe he came from one of his dimensions where he lives, or he came from a totally different dimension and stayed in Equestria.

Hot take: what if the royal sisters accidentally made him when trying to get rid of Chaos? Maybe there's just too much so they tried to put it on one spot and lock it away but it turned into him? Idk

I'm still rather convinced by the 'Grogar created Discord' theory, and I think the timeline can be explained by having Grogar be immune to Discord's power and able to do whatever he wants to him. Discord was created to be Grogar's all-powerful ultimate weapon, but of course he's too chaotic and free spirited for anyone else to safely and effectively harness the full extent of his power. Having written his son off as a lost cause, Grogar would have threatened Discord with destruction and/or dis-empowerment to stop him infringing upon his rule, and Discord was traumatised into absolute compliance. Not long after that Grogar was dis-empowered by Gusty; however it took until Equestria was fully established and the royal sisters grown up for Discord to become fully convinced that his father was gone for good and he had nothing to be afraid of.

Harmony symbolised with the mains like: 1 person, 1 part and chaos symbolised by Discord by: a part of many in only 1 piece

As we saw in season 9 Tirek cannot absorb non living magic so if he was a creation of grogar sewn together by grogar's magic as far as I know after magic is cast it doesn't count as a living being so when Tirek stole discord magic energy(I believe that everyone has a magic spark and using magic takes magic energy not magic.Discord has his own special chaotic magic spark.So when Tirek takes there magic energy they get tired and almost unable to move because they also use energy for everything then compare it to when cozy stole the magic and you can see a difference 😉.).

you know, that might be right. I mean i have watched a lot of movies or shows were one side can't live without the other, then if they split apart, it might just cause chaos. And if you took away chaos and just left harmony, well you know the saying " To much of a good thing is a bad thing." It all makes sense, and I mostly think Flutter shy found out Discord can be nice long before anyone else found out. She did reform him by not attacking.

So, basically, there's that idea confirmed.

When Discord introduces the Smooze to Fluttershy, he boasts of being centuries old. I think he's possibly the most ancient being in Equestria.

I have a guess. Maybe a certain "spark" of the Discord was lit a long time ago and over time this spark turned into the Discord we know. Well, or is it the concept of chaos that has realized itself.

I know this is an older video, and I don't really watch MLP myself (anymore), but I always loved Discords character, so I wanted to give this a watch. Watching this theory, the Yin and Yang here... reminded me of something.
You see, in the Pokemon World, there was an Original Dragon Type Pokemon. Being one at that time, suddenly, its trainers, two brothers, got into a huge argument with each other about goals in life, separating the one dragon into these two Dragon type Pokemon, and sought after their own goals in life: Reshiram, a white coloured Fire type dragon (Representive of Yang), who sought after the truth with the older brother, and Zekrom, the black coloured Electric type dragon (Representive of Yin), who sought after ideals with the younger brother.
But, once they got separated, they left a husk, an empty core, icy cold, bit of the Original Dragon behind... This, is how Kyurem, the Ice type Dragon (Representive of the concept of Wuji, the absence of Yin and Yang), became to be, completing but being separated, the Tao Trio. Left behind from both without life energy, it was left unbalanced, enraged.
So why am I telling you all of this? Well. After what I know and remember of the show, Discord is unstable most of the time because he needs the evilness from the evil within Equestria, but he also needs the harmony from Equestria as well. This is the reason he needs his chaotic being, to be alive.
So, what I'm trying to tell you is, that Discord has the same origin story as Kyurem, the concept of Wuji, the chaos left behind from Yin and Yang. Both left to nothingness, left being a husk, a shell, of emptiness. Until that one day, some detailing reason came to disturb the husk, and both were to disturb the balance of both side of the Yin and Yang;
Kyurem was captured by Team Plasma in Black and White 2 games to bring chaos upon the region of Unova, but when one of the other dragons (depends on the game you're playing) came with their new trainer, N, (whose real name is Natural Harmonia Gropius, btw, huh, coincidence?), they fought against Team Plasma to rescue Kyurem with the player of the game, to being left again to its natural, empty state to bring peace back to the region.
When Equestria was in an unbalancing state, it woke up the Prince of Chaos, to try to rule over it. Equestria needed the Mane 6 to fight against him, and won the fight, just to discover later that they needed Discord later on, (Which forward I do not know about), to bring his chaotic energy to win against the other evil of the MLP franchises villains. Whilst being on somewhat good terms with Discord, and saw that they really need Discord to be a tie breaker between the good and the evil within Equestria. But this is just my theory, my discovery.

there is alot of potential with this show that i havent noticed before, they should make a prequel series

I just have to point out one mistake - in 4:13 it is stated that without their magic monsters are split into their base components. But in the same episode that this happens, Twilight states that those creatures don't have their magic powers, since they were taken by Cozy Glow, but still possess the magic that makes them what they are. It is evident that these two types of magic is different. It is possible that when Tirek gives away his magic, or earlier sucks away Discord's magic, the magic that makes them into what they are simply isn't a part of the magic that leaves.

Maybe he was sticking to a dimension that he is the only living thing to practice his chaotic power. Maybe the reason why he didn’t show up until later on was because he needed to master his abilities. No one can master power like that in a day. Not even the Lord of Chaos. He probably grew up like everyone else but one day found out he has great power. It would take years for him to master that much power. So he stuck to his own dimension to practice for years alone. That much power lead him to think he can do anything he wants. Like how Sunset Shimmer felt when she had power. Like how Twilight felt in the human world in the movie “Friendship Games”. That part of my theory is proven on the episode that he was reformed. He said it himself, “I can do whatever I want, whenever I want...” He realized that if he wanted one thing, he had to give up something else.

My theory is that long ago there was a pony that wanted more power so he learned old ancient magic to combine his magic with other creatures´magic he did this untill he destroyed his origin kingdom a kingdom that was forgotten and didnt have any acces to all of equestria once he destroyed it he went to equestria and you know the story oh and discord never talked about the kingdom because he repented after seeing his lost ones gone

I like the theory (especially the symbolism) but Tirek clearly already new of Discord since he calls him by name when they first meet and much later Discord taunts Tirek with his past troubles with his father during his childhood. This implies that either Discord is far older or perhaps all "incarnations" of Discord share the same form and memories with Tirek having encountered an older form of Discord than the one born from the tree.

This is my favorite theory of yours because it works so well with the time line and everything discord.

Here's a thought: when the pillars planted the seed, it had split into two halves; the spirit of harmony and the spirit of chaos. The reason chaos and harmony were at war at first was because one wanted to eliminate the other, it's like arthritis. The body attacks itself due to thinking there is something wrong with the joints, which causes pain and misery to that joint (or so I've heard), what if chaos is attacking harmony or vise versa due to them both thinking one is an illness. Another theory is that they are being territorial siblings (the origin that chaos and harmony split while growing is still a thing). If my theory is correct and they are the same thing, just got split during the growing process, then that would mean Discord is at least part plant or rock (or both), which to me is amusing. Bet Maud Pie would like that.


Also, this would explain how the spirit of chaos is an "animal" and the spirit of harmony is a "plant", going back to the Yin-Yang theory, plants cannot survive without animals and vise versa, so when the spirits decided to do an alliance, they decided to help each other out as if it was a flower and a bee.


But that's just a theory, a Discord theory.

I have one a theory.
The entire show has had the theme of balancing Chaos and Harmony.
So when the royal sisters created true Harmony. Discord just came into existence to balance things out.

Discord's power was removed, the others had their magical essence of their very form stripped out.

I have seen this theory quit later than it started and after seeing the all the episodes about discord, grogar and all that stuff, almost everybody knows that this theory of Grogar making Discord is absolutely wrong cause Discord is Grogar (actually to help Twilight) so it is still no clear where discord came from.

This theory is great but you overlooked one teensy detail. In TwighLights Kingdom Part 1, Tirek says ”You are Discord, you are legend.” Which means Discord previously existed before the tree was planted since Tirek knew who Discord was before he was imprisoned in Tartarus. Unless he learned about Discord while he was in Tartarus somehow.

Discord created the tree of harmony after the pillars planted it. that means there was no harmony before he came. So that means the three tribes made Discord to begin with. By accident.

Honestly, I think discord formed out of every beings chaotic misdeeds and good deeds, more bad than good causing an unbalanced scale and for him to turn evil at first

well keep in mind, he was put as a statue in the Canterlot garden, having been turned to stone and being freed later on. at least this is what I remember. So he could have been made by Starswirl but as soon as he started causing Chaos and Destruction, he might have been turned to stone just to be accidentally freed centuries later. Which could explain the large gap in the timeline.

Do we consider the comics on this channel(if not that's cool too)? I know they're technically not canon, but the Cosmos arc does delve into his backstory and goes into the different kinds of chaos(chaos-chance-madness-ect) and helps flesh out Discord's true relationship to Equestria

look at how OLD discord is. he could have easily been made by star swirl before he went to limbo, and of course, it is possible that he spent all this time in his home, and we are now sure that he has one, planning on how to make everything chaotic. it could take decades for such a master plan, especially since he came very close to ruling all of equestria.

it could be that the everfree forest made discord to take revenge on the the pillars and tree of harmony for keeping it in control. It also explain how he got the seeds (I don't know how but it makes sense to me)

Well - there is just one problem with the Discord theory - in the end of the end, Discord reveals he knows about Tirek´s relationship with his father which suggests that he must have visited the kingdom of the centaurs when Tirek was young (confirmed in a comic issue). Now, Tirek and Scorpan came to Equestria prior to Starswirl´s disappearance so that is a proof Discord existed way before he took over Equestria the first time.
I have my own theory on the history of Equestria - when Grogar ruled the land, he created the monsters from ordinary creatures Discord spoke about but also Discord himself as his successor to spread evil and chaos - Discord therefore is a combination of harmony magic of ordinary creatures and Grogar´s own dark magic which manifested in a new kind of magic - chaos magic, a combination of the two sides. Therefore yes - Discord is sort of the bridge between the harmony side ( princesses - pillars - tree-elements - mane six) and the evil side formerly created to be an evil ruler just like Grogar but Celestia realized Discord´s power and thought that if he could start to appreciate harmony and learn to use his magic for good there will be balance between evil and good. Every creature in Equestria has two types of magic - harmony and dark and each of them affect the creature differently ( harmony magic = Luna, dark magic = Nightmare moon) however cannot be used simultaneously, otherwise chaos emerges. And thats Discord. And with the fading away - we have seen a connection between the essence of a pony and a change of magic (mane six turning grey after being corrupted) so perhaps Discord doesnt turn grey but will disappear instead.

This is genius... And it explains perfectly why the only magic that can beat Discord's magic is the Elements of Harmony.

Also, if the Alicorns were created by Star Swirl then why didn’t the princesses split into components when they willingly gave up their magic to twilight to protect it from Terek? Is their situation different from the animals that were combined into different creatures because their situation was more related to magic powers then just physical features like the hybrid animals?

What if discord has been around since the beginning, but he ages incredibly slowly? And his first appearance, the first time he was old enough to do some real damage.

It's not as well thought out as other people's theories but Discord is known to make portals to different dimensions. What if he's been hopping dimensions and he happened to stumble upon Equestria. He's been seen popping up in and out throughout multiple places in the timeline, like others in the comment section has mentioned.

I like your yin yang theory. It reminds me of digimon adv tri's origin story. The 4 Dark Masters existence, forced four of the five digimon to digivolve to their mega forms as The 4 Digimon Sovereigns to bring balance to the digital world.

The Grogar theory makes even less sense when you consider the "Grogar" who said that was actually discord

I know i'm a bit late to this, but I have a few comments that I thought of watching this.

First of all, no matter how he created/came to be, how did he get as powerful as magic as he has?
From what we have seen, he can do ANYTHING he wants. Even things no one else would even think of. So if he was created by someone, how could they accomplish that?

Second of all, If he was created by the tree of harmony becoming a thing, why was he not, at the very least, effected when it got destroyed?
I know it was reborn as the school, but does the school give off enough harmony? If not, wouldn't that mean there's more chaos in the world then harmony? With the trio of villains, everfree forest, Discord, etc.

We may never know now that the show is over, but just somethings I thought of.
Maybe I should become a theorizer lol

It’s a fun theory but he can’t have appeared out of thin air just because the Tree of Harmony was planted, it doesn’t make sense. The Windigos were always there and so was the Everfree Forest, the Fire of Friendship was created by the ponies, and the Tree of Harmony was planted by them. So how was Discord created? I think that he was created by Starswirl. Like you first thought, an experiment. I think the result was a being of pure chaos. Seeing the result wasn’t very good, he locked Discord up in the strange chaotic realm he lives. But maybe Starswirl didn’t know that Discord had magical powers. By the time the Tree of Harmony grew up Discord‘s magic grew too. By the time he was strong enough to break free, the Tree of Harmony grew up to be big and strong as well. Which is why we didn’t see him before, he was trapped in his home in that strange realm.

Okay theory. Discord is from the same time as when the ponies were separated, and when they joined together he went into hiding. At least until he grew stronger. Basically he came from the discord and chaos from the three tribes

I had always thought of the draconequui as its own species but they all became extinct in some sort of war when discord was little, and he's just been wandering around the wilderness experimenting with his magic. The draconequui probably lived in that chaos dimension the discord lives in now but he found a way to equestria and decided to stay in search of other creatures to talk to because he got lonely, but that still doesn't explain who they would start a war with (this theory is a work in progress). If you'll notice, there's still a base relationship between Discord and Celestia, I think discord may have initially been keeping the chaos. Because I'm not going to theorize there was anything romantic between them (I don't think there was) but it certainly seems like they were in a budding friendship with the sense of familiarity out of the two of them which certainly doesn't feel like a familiarity between former foes and would in part explain how Celestia knew discord could be reformed: because while he was always chaotic, he wasn't always evil. Chances are (like every other antagonist) there was something that drove him off the edge.

I love this theory and this one is the most likely to be true out of all theories I've heard, but i have one question. In the episode Twilight's kingdom Tirek recognised Discord and knew about his banisment, but if Discord was created after Tirek's imprisonment I don't know how its possible for the centaur to recognise him. Well of course he could still be informed about him in Tartarus but since he didn't know about Twilight being a princess I don't think thats possible. Because of this I can't really find any explanation other than Discord was created and turned into stone before Tirek's banisment into Tartarus but that doesn't line up either. Tirek's banisment was clearly before Discord's because the pillars were still around that time and when Discrod was turned into stone they weren't. Didn’t one of the episodes Show Discord come from another realm? For some reason I remember that. So maybe Starswirl made him and put him in the realm. Then Discord learned how to come out and start chaos again. If grogar made him, maybe Discord laid low. If Discord constantly rose up, someone would eventually figure out how to stop him. Like how the sun on its own would be all wrong, it wouldn't rise on its own making it night forever, it needs a sentient being to work right- celestia. This wouldn't mean she's the only one that can raise the sun, starswirl and other unicorns did so before her, it would just mean that she's the rightful second half to the sun's purpose of spreading light. The same thing goes for luna and the moon. This also applies to twilight and cadence! Love and friendship already exist in equestria like how the sun and moon already existed but that's not enough. The sun already existed but that's not enough to spread light, it needs celestia. Friendship and love already existed but that's not enough to spread Friendship and love to everyone, it needs twilight and cadence. Chaos already exists in equestria but it's not enough, It needs someone to spread it which is why discord exists. This may be why the 4 princesses and discord are immortal, so they can spread their respective things forever. You may argue about the rest of the main 6 that, for example, fluttershy would be the other half the sentient form of kindness and should be immortal too, same with the rest. But their elements are all elements of Friendship which twilight spreads, so by spreading Friendship she spreads those too. Celestia even says twilight possesses those qualities in her speech at the end of magical mystery cure.

I'm not sure what episode and season, but when the weird rampaging snow-looking creature is in Twilight's castle, Discord says "Oh for Scorpans sake!" Maybe it could mean he's younger than Scorpan and Tirek? Of course Discord would say Scorpan instead of Tirek. Maybe Scorpan was someone Discord looked up to? Kind of a long-shot but still makes sense to me.

I think that if Grogar DID create discord, then it would make sense to how much discord knew about grogar, because he was impersonating grogar in season 9. So you can’t really believe EVERYTHING discord said when he was grogar

What I'm constantly wondering about is what discord would be in the human Equestria

I think something else. When the pillars where sent into limbo maybe Discord had a strong relationship with Starswirl and he waited for him to come back when he heard that they disappeared until he couldn’t take it anymore. He needed something to keep him busy because Starswirl was the only one that truly understood him, he found Equestria and decided to rule until the sisters turned him into stone. A thousand years later the cutie mark crusaders freed him and the main six had to stop him again and turned him into stone. Then Celestia wanted him reformed Fluttershy befriended Discord and by that time he forgotten about Starswirl and Fluttershy replaced him.

Since Discord is a being/spirit of chaos, he and the spirit of harmony must have a stable ground to rise and grow upon. So where can chaos thrive so much that it aid in the creation of Discord? I believe when Discord and Fluttershy had an episode covering their unique friendship covers this question. His home is the embodiment of chaos that will aid in keeping him from being destroyed by being in too much Harmony. the tree of Harmony was made from the embodiment of Harmony during the 7 pillars era of reign. So it makes sense for them to grow and work on their powers in the place that requires their purpose. Who created the dimension of chaos might have a connection to Starswirl and Gorge's power and abilities. Who knows.

One thing that I always sort of had my thought that Celestia actually LIKES a little chaos. We've seen it with every time the grand galloping galla came about: if it wasn't for a little chaos changing the status quo the galla would be too boring for her: and since we've seen the stuff she wanted to do with Luna on their vacation,
One aspect for your theory is that yin and yang actually have a bit of the opposite in them. The black has a white dot, and vice versa. In that sense, maybe that's why the spirit of the tree of harmony started reaching out to the student six and giving them trials and stuff: maybe that is the spirit of harmony embracing its chaotic dot: much like Discords been embracing his harmonious dot by way of not being used as a "get out of trouble free" card when he knows the mane six have all they need to save the day on their own, and they just need a little push and hint here and there.

I have a head canon that discord was a result of the tree of harmony, before the elements of harmony had been apart of the tree, and his first appearance was only after the tree had grown enough to form life, but without the help of the elements of harmony, some discord/ chaos had leaked out of the tree, forming discord, which is why he wouldn’t split into parts after his magic being taken away (sorry about this being long)

But when Cozy Glow sucked the magic from Equestria, it took the creatures normal magic, and the magic that made them up was different, otherwise it would have been gone too. This means that discord could have had is chaos magic taken, without the magic that had put all of his different parts together. I still think that your right, based on the evidence from when discord started to fade away.

Irrelevant to this but I’ve got a theory circulating Luna, Discord and the Elements. So Discord got turned into stone by Celestia and Luna when they used the Elements on him and Luna/Nightmare Moon got sent to the moon by Celestia when she used the Elements on her. Here is my theory, how did the spell that sent NMM to the moon not last as long as the spell that turned discord into stone even though both had the elements used on them. What bugs more is that NMM came back quicker than discord even though she got sent to the moon way after Discord got turned into stone. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the 4 stars that set NMM free or that discord got set free because of Sweetiebell, Scooterloo and Apple bloom fighting which caused chaos but if my theory is right, Discord would of been set free way before NMM came back as the spell that turned him into stone obviously was temporary. Plus whilst being in the Canterlot Gardens for so long, wouldn’t have there been so much more ponies that caused chaos by arguing and all that would of set him free


This kind of branches into the theory of Tirek, Crysalis and that other one being turned into stone by Celestia, Luna and Discord. Discord got turned into stone by the elements whilst the 3 got turned into stone by discord and the princesses which leaves a question in theory. If the spell caused by the elements was temporary, would the spell caused by discord and the princesses would be also temporary or would it have some different effect.

But since the tree was destroyed wouldn't Discord also be destroyed? Like you said, the tree has it's own "spirit", which could be similar to a soul of a living thing, like Discord. So, shouldn't Discord's soul be out there, somewhere?

I actually disagree since I believe Star Swirl DID create Discord after planting the tree of Harmony knowing that Harmony can't exist without Chaos and Chaos can't exist without Harmony. He wanted to make Discord to be good but something went wrong. But Star Swirl wouldn't have known since Discord was a baby. But how does Discord exist without the tree? Simple. The spirit still exists. But I also believe that after all the mane six passed away,Discord would be gone since the elements are inside the mane six.

So you know how discord lives in that chaos galaxy thingy?? How I thought he came to be was that he was born in that chaos galaxy thing before it was so chaotic, and then he took over it and made it all chaotic, his powers slowly growing in the process. After a while, he got bored of the chaos world (but still lived there obviously since he was born there and it was like his own universe), and became strong enough to travel to other worlds. He went to the pony world, and seeing that it was very normal and not chaotic, he decided he was going to take over it as well, but the pony world had magical reinforcements, and defeated him. I still believe Grogar was make DIscord. I can assume Grogar only use Discord as emergency card. In case Grogar can't conquer some region. He just order Discord to make chaos on that region so he can weaken it. After that, he can easily conquer it.
Another proof that DIscord is made by Grogar was, when Discord disguise as Grogar, he orchestrated it very well. It means he with Grogar for a long time. So, theory Grogar made Discord is highly possible.

I always thought discord was some sort of minor god. A trickster spirit of chaos and madness.

I think that discord was trapped away but then when Starswirl disappeared the spell started to weaken and when the spell finally broke that's when discord tried to take over Equestria

Maybe at the beginning of the times, he was in his dimension playing cards or anything ... he get bored and came to our dimension

Since discord loves chaos and is pure chaos, he would get bored without it. So, I think that like ying and yang has to be balanced, discord was created at the begging of the world but since Equastria is extremely huge, he's just been at other places and we haven't saw them yet.

In season 4 episode twilight’s kingdom part 1 when tirek saw discord he recognised him that he is discord. And this means that they met even before that. And this means they lived together back then. And this means discord lived in tirek’s kingdom all that time. Now the gap is filled. Make a theory on it.

I see things like this
The prime forces of the world of mlp are darkness, light, chaos and harmony. These take up physical forms or inhabit them. Some being have a small part of this e.g. small time antagonists or lesser characters, and others are more prominent. Unlike this, the beings formed by this power have innate control of it, such as Sombra clearly having dark magic, or discords powerful chaos magic. These beings exist purely to invoke their power, which makes me think that grogar may have been an emissary of darkness, and why sombre and the other villains were so impressed by him. In these powers, light and dark are subservient to chaos and harmony. This is why the main six can beat sombre or tirek, as their power is one rank higher than them, yet discord is treated as needing reform, because without the incarnation of chaos, then chaos will spread to others, or simply run wild.

i do agree with the fact that grogar or starswirl making discord is not true, because you see, the where was he during that time is a huge deal. You see, If he was just laying back, then he would be long gone, because he wasn't spreading chaos, his pure essence. And if he was, then the ponies would've definitely known.

Maybe when Celestia does not want to do things, she try's to keep up her smile. But if she puts on a frown and her world turns down she can still fix it. So why not have a smile AND A frown? Just like Luna, if she got Nightmare Moon out of her system why still be scared of it coming out? Maybe because it can! Maybe this is another reason Starswirl made these two ponies Alicorn's, I have made a comment something like it. Maybe he saw the "spirit" of the darkness inside both of them! So because they are sisters and know each other VERY Well, He gave them both the amount of power to stop the darkness of coming out of one of the sisters. Day and night. Dark and Light. They put on a smile on the outside but a frown on the inside. This could also hint on to the theory about the "Spirits"! Celestia and Luna are the light, with Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon is the Darkness! (It may not be like yin-yang but I think it's a amazing concept the think about.)

How did Grogar get so powerful? I mean, he's a blue goat with a magic bell that takes magic he can use. But how did he get his hooves on it? Did he make it? If so, how? If he didn't, who did? Does he have some sort of "inner magic" or something that made the bell? How is such an artifact so powerful? I have a lot of questions on the matter but I don't have the time to do research, maybe that would make a good video. But hey, what do I know?

I think Discord was orginally a pony a unicorn to be exact and he enrolled in Celestia's school of Gifted Unicorn's and then came the test to get into the school. Now Discord had fuse animals together but instead of fusing them together he fused them together with himself. He wasn't allowed in the school but the Princesses didn't know about Discord's powerful magic and spread chaos throughout Ponyville to show how powerful he really is and then it's back to the Princess put him in his stone prison so,on so forth. But this theory destory's the Grogar creating Discord theory.

As I was watching I was thinking what if when Starswirl planted the tree of harmony that Chaos magic created discord to even things out. Even though there is no trace of this happening it could be true.

Maybe he is from another dimension and got through into equestria. It has already been proven there are more portals. What about other worlds two?

I think discord was created by starswirl And the tree of harmony after they planted the tree he did a secret experiment that made discord like he threw magic into every single animal in the world he can find at the time and then made discord out of that magic from every animal he can find after he let his set for 2 years because there must be a time where the pony of Shadows was alive and well not brought into limbo there must have been a time

I think the reason discord didn't fall apart when his magic was tooken was because all those monster or unusuall beings where animals but together and seperate but discord is like a Frankenstein he was made with parts of creatures creating a new life organism but the rest weren't they were just upgraded animals or animals put together for example the snake tiger and goat they are just animals put together and so are the rest but discord was out together using animal parts not the whole body as in the show. (But of course this is just what I think I have done no research)

I think he is born by starswirl or Grogar but he is like made by fusing together the DNA and stuff that makes a living being of all the different stuff and then he was a product of this new unorthodox or unconventional method of birthing new form of life.but we haven't seen more of his type because starswirl or Grogar thought of it as useless or not so good to be living.and that it would ultimately be a problem for all.

my au: along time ago when the first hearts warming occurred (discord is about 4 or 5 idk all I know is that this was probably 4,000 BCE) the winda-gos attacked a land of discord's kind...
being the youngest at the time his parents tell him to run and, well. His family, friends, and kind died due to this. later chrysalis and celestia become his friends. But chrysalis's mother didn't like that she had a friend and soon took her heart and chrysalis convinced discord to create enough chaos to make celestia and the hole town mad at him without him knowing. Then the whole town started saying: beast, monster, freak, and so on. Soon celestia called him one of those things and this makes him insecure it all escalates from here. Also the REAL reason why discord joined tireck is because he started questioning whether the main six were really his friends. And let's not forget the obvious when he actually tried to reform the villians but didn't want to admit failure because he felt insecure. So he suffers from trauma and it gets even worse when chrysalis is turned to stone, he might look determined but he's dying on the inside.

Discord maybe was sent to that weird universe we see his house is in, by whoever created him. Cuz like, maybe they thought he was a bit too chaotic and would’ve probably ruined their plans. So he got Locked in, until he broke free, where he took over equestria the first time. Haven’t really thought this through so correct me if I’m wrong

i think both of ur theory’s may be able to exist at the same time. i like the idea of the yin and yang. the idea of opposing forces. it’s a balance within the entire universe. not just mlp but our own. and i think we can see that being reflected onto the plot of the show. we can see throughout the show that these representations of things through objects or pony’s (such as the elements of harmony and the mane six) are finite but the actual element of that is infinite. grogar may have created discord as the element of chaos just like the old pillars of equestria planted the tree of harmony. the creation both of these things grew into something else that will create something else just like something had to create the pillars and grogar. is the flow of the universe within yin and yang and the yin and yang within the flow.

I really like that "Starswirl created Discord" idea, I might use that for some of my stories.
It could also be that Starswirl himself recognized that Yin-Yang theory too, and captured the Spirit of Chaos and gave it a physical form as Discord to balance out the Tree. Perhaps Discord may have even started out like the Tree did. Statue of Chaos, and Tree of Harmony. Seeing how easily ponies panic with the bunny stampede that happened in Ponyville, an abundance of chaos that came with a villain could have overloaded the Statue and created Discord, the Spirit of Chaos. The Tree never had this problem due to the Elements, but eventually ended up gaining its own spirit in response to Discord being his own thing, and in desiring a more balanced playing field, destroyed the Tree, allowing the Spirit of Harmony to start on it's journey of becoming like Discord. I see a potential new tangible Spirit of (Concept) on the horizon, that perhaps the last episode was unable to show us for some reason. Or did it show us by hiding it in plain sight?

Even though is not a canon comic, it would not be the first time canon things are hidden inside of noncanon ones, so, straight to the point, Discord was present when Tirek's father argues with him because he was learning magic.

I always thought he came from his own dimension were there where other droconiquists before his people were killed by some mystery evil and when he came to equestria he worked with luna and celestia for a while but then some ponies refused to except him for who he was so they attack and in his fear filled retaliation he took it to far and the princesses for made enough at him that he believed they were never his friend in the first place so he got scared and was lonely and home sick so he tried to make equestria like home (why celestia asked the mane six to reform him and why he reacted the way he did when he lost flutter shys friend ship)it also why he fades or does not seem to follow the same laws of physics as other i.e. his ghost and on top of that they said tirek was from a different world when he first showed up so when he or discord lose there magic they don't separate out into there different parts.

well according to one comic where Cosmos is around Discord existed before the sisters he said he comes to Equestria to have fun and make chaos and when he's not doing that he's in his own realm the twisted realm we see in the show, now we never see the show disprove this, nor do we see it prove it either, but I can see Discord being around for a long time, maybe Gorgar did make him and like he said in the comic he makes chaos but not in a cruel way that's Cosmos' thing

My theory:

Discord could be created from all the chaotic things that was happening in equestria. Like all chaos and discord that happened created him, since we know that he is made up of chaos it would make sense if he was created by chaos.

In my head canon, he's Q from Star Trek. There's also the comic with the other draconeques.

Star swirl created him as a baby discorn so he raised so he grew and stars swirl went to limbo and discorn came to the sister's he grew without star swirl so he was angry and went to the two sisters hooves

Harmony was created. You can't have harmony without chaos. Discord was created as a counterpart to harmony. Neither can truly exist without the other. Starswurl and the others could have created discord without even knowing just as they were entering limbo. Or harmony could have very well created discord itself. At this point we can assume harmony is some sort of living being, a spirit. That spirit could have very well split into two. Creating the very thing it needed so it could thrive. That's why we never see discord before starswirls enter into limbo and why it took a while for discord to show after that because he was just born he needed to grow and mature into the discord we know. And once he finally developed that's when he started reeking havoc and that's when we reach the point in history where the Princess defeat discord. And in doing so caused harmony to thrive and may have even gotten stronger

he's like the essence of chaos, so maybe discord has been dormant, and he was just playing around until he thought bigger, and messed everything up?

I think discord was born, not created because Triek mentioned that discord was his brother after stealing his magic. Then in season 9 discord says that Triek has a father, Lord Vorak. If Triek has a father and discord is Triek's brother then...... We have a simple explanation!

That would be completely correct and an extra point, when you mentioned that discord would start disappearing when he doesn’t spread chaos, it also would explain the ‘yin and yang theory’.

There are a lot of reasons why it doesn't make sense for discord and star swirl to have any connections at all
1. If star swirl created discord tmand knew of his present threat then why who he and his team leave Equestria without stopping him first
2. If he created discord then he would no doubt ask about him when he and the others returned and after learning about everything that happened it wouldn't make sense for Star Swirl to not confront Celestia Twilight or discord himself about it
3. If Star swirl knew of discords power why would he banished himself and his friends to defeat the shadow pony instead of just tricking or negotiating to have discord deal with him, because then it doesn't matter if discord or the shadow pony wins either way that's one less threat to deal with
4. When discord pretended to have the Blue Flu he interrupted Twilight and Cadence at the Star Swirl museum, if he really did have history with star swirl then its very out of character for discord not to mess with the museum but when he was there discord showed no sign of any connection which would also be out of character since discord has never been good at hiding his feelings

The fact is there isn't actually any solid evidence to show that they have any connections but if they are then it just creates continuity errors since it would be in either of their character.

There is one thing I think about is a line in the song about discord:are we just your prey or a stepping stone for taking back the throne. Someone please help build on this

My thoughts are that Celestia and Luna might have made discord to even it all out and that might be how they know his name

In the comics(yes I know their canon is questionable) Discord is shown in Tirek's kingdom when Tirek was a SUPER edgy teenager and he seemed surprisingly un-chaotic. What if he existed before the tree, but he wasn't nearly as strong as he is now. That surge in power would drive him over the edge into his more insane state of mind and would link him to the magic more strongly explaining how he almost disappeared.


Though this doesn't explain how discord could survive his magic being taken away. If he is full chaos and losing that power by being orderly almost made him disappear, then why wouldn't losing that magic make him disappear as well? Honestly, I wish that one episode with him disappearing didn't happen, it seems to lock him into a set pattern which he really shouldn't be in. Ironically, he would probably be a better embodiment of chaos if he just decided to call himself that after gaining his power instead of being locked into it.

It is still possible that grogar made discord even though when the magic was sucked out of him discord didn't split into the many different animals that make up discord. In season 8 school raze star swirl's letter says that one the first day ponies lose there magic , the second day creatures and the third objects and by sundown no more magic. The creatures in tarterus lost their magic on the second day but not the magic that fused them together. Twilight thought that magic fused the base forms of animals together and that there was magic inside the animals. This is why I believe that discord still could have been made by grogar. He didn't willingly give up the magic inside him that fused all the animals together.

This is a great question I don’t know maybe it was magic that brought him or maybe it was star swirls Magic it self

I think it was because since there are different tribes in eqestria so that’s why when the tree was planted then at the same time something happened with all the tribe leader’s like a strip of light coming towards the tree and then a small little discord was born and the reason for ALL is cuz discord looks like all the different tribes combined. But at that time he was small and couldn’t do anything so now I conclude that the tree and discord are technically brothers/sisters so they age at the same time cuz discord was formed at the same time and when the tree was fully grown then he was also fully grown. :)

I've just sort of thought of Discord sort of like Peeves from Harry Potter. No matter what you do you can't get rid of him permanently and they grow stronger with chaos and mischief. This would also sort of explain why Discords heart started beating when the crusaders where fighting and why he started fading. They feed and survive of their own and others chaos.

Windagos are creatures that exist out of anger and disharmony they disappear without the said sources. Discord functions that way with discord makes me wonder the connections between the two

I personally think the creators of MLP didn't put too much thought into it when they created Discord lol, they just thought he'd make a cool villain, but if I had to try to find an in-universe explanation for Discord then I would say most likely he is a tulpa. The term tulpa originated with Tibetan Buddhism, at least according to wikipedia lol. It's a creature born of thought, basically one's own imagination/thoughts given physical form. Discord is just a tulpa that embodies, well, discord and chaos. That's also why, when he stopped creating chaos, he started to disappear. Just like our bodies are made up of physical matter and require sustenance to persist, Discord's body is made up of chaos and requires chaos to exist. This theory of mine also aligns well with some cultures' beliefs that deities rely on worshipers in order to exist and have power, and that if those worshipers were to stop worshiping them they would cease to be.

P.S. For some reason this whole thing reminds me of a quote from the End Poem from Minecraft. It goes like this: "The atoms of the player were scattered in the grass, in the rivers, in the air, in the ground. A woman gathered the atoms; she drank and ate and inhaled; and the woman assembled the player, in her body. And the player awoke, from the warm, dark world of its mother's body, into the long dream." Just like we are made of atoms that were scattered in grass, water, air, and dirt, Discord is made up of chaos.

We've seen that with chrysalis, tired and cozy glow he said something along the lines of "I can teach you how to control chaos magic" idk I am just a fellow theorist!

I know who could have made him,discord made himself,at first all he was a non physical assembly of equestrian chaos and disharmony, like how the windgos work. And he already had all of his chaos powers,so he used the chaos magic to make himself a body that runs of chaos,explaining what happens when he stops being chaotic and the fact he dosent need a body to cause chaos. Just an idea. Edit: this does fit into sawtooths theory,the tree of harmony pulled into his un bodied chaos into the world and discord made himself as my original comment says.

My personal theory is chaos magic is natural organic raw magic. I believe it comes from the Energy of natural things breaking down, decay is where chaos magic comes from because it seems to make sense.

discord.. is the opposite of harmony.. it seems that the full grown tree happened near to when discord happens. if the spirit of harmony is formed here with the tree of harmony growing, perhaps discord was also growing as that spirit was growing. it seems obvious now that the everfree forest was discord's- as if things happening all on their own arent chaotic lol. we may live in a more chaotic world than the ponies, and perhaps the magic of harmony is how the ponies understand their own world.
Also, thinking about sombra and the equal village and how.. that was examples of evil harmony. perhaps even the changelings.
as evil rises and has risen in so much of the past, it seems that so much now is bringing more good to balance that past evil. its a homeostasis of equestria itself. and it just so happens that harmony/order tends to align with good and chaos/disorder tends to align with evil. if the world can bring these forces into a neutral area there may eventually become a homeostasis without extremes.. i wonder what a world like that would become. honestly, it would probably be rather boring, as, well, you know not good without first knowing evil, yeah? perhaps this violent equilibrium is just how it should be, like the equilibrium seen in nature of grass-rabbit-fox for example. first, grass grows excessively. then, rabbits grow excessively bc more food source and grass declines bc more predators. then, foxes grow excessively bc more food source and rabbits decline bc more predators. then grass grows bc less predators and the cycle continues. Celestia can try to tame those cycles but i don't think we will be able to truly control any of equestria. just do damage control as best as we can.

This is really late, as in mlp is finished late, but I just got a funny theory that some what works? Discord seems to live in a space type of place where things are floating around and portals seem to open up. We seen discord open portals before to non-pony like dimensions, like that one sock puppet show. Maybe he’s just a mixture of different universes and not only a my little pony character, but one character from different universes fused together into one, creating discord. I'm pretty sure Grogar made discord, the season 9 premiere Grogar was called the father of monsters, also discord is the only draconiquous in the show, along with the other 3 villains of the season making mention the fact that they weren't artificial, or created, Tirek saying that he heard the Legend of Grogar when he was younger, but discord never makes reference of when he was younger or anything like that, and he doesn't seem to age at all, so it goes to saying that perhaps Grogar created discord, but why, I think it was a fail safe, if Grogar lost his power, or was killed, discord would be the one to instill fear in the hearts of everyone. I also think discord is the strongest character in the show. Look at his power, he can bend reality with the snap of a finger, can also create sentience like it's nothing, and can also corrupt ponies. Didn't Twilight see a vision of Celestia and Luna using the elements of harmony to turn discord into stone in the episode "Princess Twilight Sparkle?" And plus, in "The Return of Harmony", doesn't Celestia say, "Luna and I used the Elements of Harmony to turn discord into stone. Now that we no longer control the Elements of Harmony, you must use them to defeat discord." When Celestia and Luna had the power of the Elements of Harmony, that came before Luna turned into Nightmare Moon, which was over 1,000 years. That means, Discord must've existed way before the episode "The Return of Harmony," his first appearance. If Discord's first defeat, from Celestia and Luna, was stained on glass before the elements were stolen, then he was definitely born before the mane 6 turned him to stone.

I can disprove the theory that Discord was created as a side effect of the tree's existence. Check out the mini comic side series 'Fiendship is Magic'. In the second issue (the one about Tirek), one of the scenes has Discord standing among the crowd of people in the throne room the morning after the explosion, thus meaning he existed when Tirek was still a teenager.


Also, as an extra note, check out some of the most recent issues of the main comic series. You will find some backstory about Discord and a character called Cosmos. The backstory seems to read out like it was actually Cosmos who caused the first 'chaos mess', and he erased that part of the ponies' memories and covered for her.

This origin of discord while I see many good points. I also see a lot of flaws I understand the concept but I feel like something wrong or missing for example during that episode where discord opens a hole to another dimension to send tree hugger that made me think 💭 . I know for a fact discord the spirit of chaos disharmony does exist as a counter balance but what if he not originally from that Equestria what if the discord we see on the show is from another dimension like Equestria or even similar and whatever destroy or killed it he simply transferred himself to this other universe to fulfill his purpose. Ik what your thinking but that doesn’t explain how he was created if he comes from a different universe that means their could multiple versions or not one singular entity but here’s my argument. The main problem with this theory is that chaos and disharmony, as well as order and harmony aren't nessecarily the same thing. Chaos means formlessness and unpredictability while order is formfulness and predictability. Harmony means agreement and mutual cooperation while disharmony is disagreement and antagonism.

King Sombra established a regime of order of the highest magnitude but would you really it harmonic? He basically just forced his will upon the crystal ponies which is the exact opposite of harmony, so order and disharmony aren't nessacarily mutally exclusive. Meanwhile, anyone who's ever playted the Shivering Ilse DLC for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will also know that chaos and harmony are also not mutally exclusive concepts. While Discord calls himself "Spirit of Chaos and Disharmony", the only time he utilizes disharmony is to render the Elements of Harmony useless, otherwise he leans much, much more towards just chaos. So the opposite of Discord wouldn't be the Spirit of Harmony, it would be the Spirit of Order which doesn't appears on the show or is even mentioned. It does make me wonder what a Spirit of Order would be like. Probably a character similar to ones like Jyggalag or White Diamond.

What if discord somehow got trapped in the seed that star swirl and the others planted and when celestial and luna took the elements of harmony out of the tree they opened a portal from inside the tree and he thought on how he would take over the world and got out before luna became nightmare moon

It all makes sense. Discord did end up being Grogar in the end. But, what if he said that, cause discord knew that Grogar created him, and discord knew it. And he said that, cause he was the first creature that Grogar created, so that's how he knew Grogar was responsible for the other creatures. And when discord said, "now they have all the real Grogars magic" That means they could have very well stolen Grogars magic that's inside discord, while stealing discords magic himself. And all along Grogar has been within discord with no way to escape. And by reforming discord, they reformed Grogar as well. And this while time, Grogar and discord are one in the same. That theory may not make as much sense as the other, but maybe, just maybe, it's true.
