It is basic high school knowledge that freshman start at the bottom. You have to earn the priviledges of being the top bananas that seniors are. It makes you look forward to progressing through. If you throw all the luxuries at freshman and slowly strip them away as they go through school, well, is that very motivating?

Makes me appreciate my school.
1. Teachers have the textbooks and hand them out themselves.
2. Planners are given.
3. Lockers are assigned and all in great condition.
3a. Small school so don''t have to worry about being late because of locker location.
4. Parent pick-up area clear of any and all parking spots.

1. School started on August 10.
2. The school library became incompetent and had problems getting Emp his textbooks.
3. Ran out of planners on Day 2.
4. Nearly all of the lockers had been taken by the extra Freshman kids.
5. The locker he got was absolutely disgusting.
6. His locker leaked.
7. One of his books was waterlogged due to a leakage.
8. His car had been blocked by the carpool lane.
9. The Principal told him that this change was permanent.
10. The school treated him like garbage.
11. He was at IB!!!!!
12. No matter how well he did, nobody would ever notice.

When I was a freshman, I thought it was unfair that upperclassmen got treated better.



Now I'm a senior, and I completely understand.

That is so true. You could have spent so much time actually enjoying life but they trap you in a box for 7 hours a day every weekday and you rarely go outside. You spend basically 80% of your childhood locked up studying things that you will immediately forget afterwards. And to think that when you are an adult you will actually lock back at your childhood and wish you could have that time back.

Public school has always been cancer, and my high school experience was not any better. There comes a point in senior year where the students really stop giving a fuck. Classes are superfluous, redundant, and even the teachers are fucking done. But is that enough for the school district? Aww hell nah, let's throw a fucking "readiness social", FORCE all our seniors to attend, then fucking reprimand us when we sneak out. Me and my group of friends were the quiet kids, the goody-two-shoes. If even WE were sneaking out (great fun btw, felt like metal gear), then you have done something wrong. Oh and another thing. There is something uniquely infuriating about Freshman. When you're a senior and you're dealing with freshman it's....a special kind of rage you feel. They do not belong there. They are kids, 14, and should still be in middle school, but no. School district gotta make dat money, so us seniors are forced to be stuck with a bunch of fucking kids with their Leafy haircuts and polo shirts.

what you described is basically what i deal with every day in HS for my 3 years so far..
Leaving out the car, the locker, and the good grades.

The last six months of my sophomore year was literally depression and anger, My junior year so far is fucking fantastic(sarcasm).
We've had one suicide each year in a span of several years, in one SINGLE week in January, literally just after winger break, three students died (one suicide, one died of a blood clot which was my best friend, and one died of cancer).

My school is basically sugar coated shit.

Emp, I feel your pain. I had been in the same boat all throughout highschool. Ive been in advanced honors classes since freshman year and AP/IB as soon as my school made it available (sophomore year). Every night getting home and doing endless hours of homework and studying just to go back the next day and get shit on. I even made the idiotic decision to pursue the IB diploma which fucked me over so bad. Endless hours of boring shit that I'll never remember again, just to be tested for hours straight at the end of highschool. And in all that still had to fill college apps and apply for scholarships with no help from the school whatsoever. But you know I looked forward to some perks of being a senior because we get first picks at classes as well as parking. But nope. The year I became a senior, the best parking lot became a fuck fest. In order to get decent parking, you had to be there an hour and a half early. The best part? We still had to pay the school a fucking $150 fee for parking on campus. The school administration system is fucked up beyond repair. Im just so glad the bullshit is over and I'm on to bigger and better things that I actually have the motivation to learn. Props to you for being able to still make memes for us and still make us enjoy life.

I graduated class of 2017 and the same god damned thing happened to me. For whatever god damned reason the time I payed my dues and got up to bad nobody in my own class respected me and the freshman, who legitimately made that school a lot worse by the way because of a fun story where a freshman cried rape for bullshit attention's sake. I'm "not allowed' to talk about (never signed a hush contract so, I can talk about it if anyone cares to)

In my senior year, the school started massive construction. They demolished the senior room. It was a room that you could go to that only seniors could go to during lunch. It had televisions and you could bring in video games. Gone.

Lockers are manually assigned. I got mine in a hallway in the very back of the school. It was a hallway that took a few minutes to walk to that had a few classrooms in the back. It was under massive construction. Fresh layers of dust sat over the lockers. It was so far away, that if I tried to go to my locker during most classes if I fast walked, I would not make it. I carried all of my books on my back with the rest in my hand to every class. At the end of the day, I did not have a ride. I walked back to my house carrying all of my books.

Class time was marred with sound of construction. Staircases that literally led up to BRICK WALLS. I called it hallway nine and three quarters. "Rooms" that were boards with plastic around them. We could hear the teachers around us.

I also ran track before my legs horribly gave out that year. And my legs aren't fixed still like three years later (Wish my luck on a test for a disease tomorrow). They ripped up the track to bring in machinery to redo the football field in the middle. I guess you could call our sport "run" instead of track.

All in all, I would call it the worst year of my life.

My senior year they took away the senior prank and all senior privileges, we didn't even get honors parking, they also installed metal detectors and forced everyone to stand outside in a massive line until we were approved to go inside. The metal detector thing qasnt every day, but what was everyday was not being allowed to go in until 30 minutes before school started, 20 minutes for breakfast and 10 minutes to get to class(we weren't allowed to take breakfast to class). My years in high school were filled with bathrooms smelling like weed, 2 bomb threats and subsequent evacuations, mandates clear book bags because of a gun being on campus(kid only took a photo, did not even pull it on someone, the idiot posted the photo on facebook). Bathroom usage was severely limited, only 6 minutes to go to class, we were expected to use the bathroom in between classes, 30 minute lunches, and I walked to school from a friends house because that was better than going through the traffic circle. My high school experience was filled with fear, frustrations, and being completely screwed over and denied what I was promised. They also did this thing where they had a half day start in the afternoon, starting at lunch, my mom ran late, and I missed my lunch, had a stress headache and only a banana and a granola bar to make it until i got home, i was almost late to class because they required every student to stop at a little booth outside to display and I'd and allow the school to check if we were in the system (like anyone would even want to sneak in, much less go there). They installed a wall a year before i got there, it was to stop students from sneaking out, but i never had an issue sneaking out anyways. They required all students to stay after finals testing was over my senior year, every teacher was required to provide a review packet, did not help that they usually did core class, elective, core class, elective for most students (If u were caught sneaking out they would write you up and suspend you, making you miss the first days of the next semester, it wasnt even enforced during the summer season). The dress code was ridiculous, a friend of mine was wrote up for wearing a tank top, not because it wasnt allowed, but because that teacher somehow saw his nipple. The rules were very inconsistently enforced, chewing gum could get u suspended, but being caught with cigarettes resulted in a parent teacher conference(and a write up). They also pulled junior marshals out of lunch( I know because I was one), told us we had the honor of serving our school to attend the seniors graduation(just to sit still, look pretty, be the free labor, and pray that a college scout would take interest I us, from what i was told, no marshal even talked to a college representative, i refused to even fill out the application to be one, they also determined the valedictorian at that meeting, junior year, no other students were consulted), they also cherry picked the junior marshals, no write ups, no suspensions, a certain set number of days attended, but no just in junior year, all the way back to freshman year, and you also were required to have a teachers recommendation, I probably scared the snot out of them when I stormed out and slammed the door behind me as soon as they finished, I missed lunch because of that meeting. Seniors were kicked out of the school after graduation rehearsal was finished, it was during the school day and most of the 360 seniors rode the bus, so we sat outside for an hour and a half waiting for the bell to ring. They had a strictly enforced dress code for all students at graduation, you would not be allowed to attend if u didn't follow it, we also were caps and gowns that covered everything, the shoes being the only exception, make up was also heavily restricted, many girls were in the bathrooms removing and having to reapply their make up. They also forced us to go through metal detectors before we could even enter our own graduation, we were also not allowed to wear our caps and gowns inside, they had a specified dressing area for us, which was heavily supervised. Only one student spoke at our graduation, cherry picked by the principal himself. I only brought a normal book bag to school once in my entire high school career, mesh first year, normal second, mesh my third, and I just brought a bag sized binder to school my senior year just to get around the restrictions. We had laptops, which were required to be school issued (couldn't bring our own.), these laptops came with preset backgrounds, icons, usernames, and apps, we could not install or change anything. Most sites were restricted (they blocked YouTube and all social media, it was actually easier to list what sites you could go to then to list the ones that were blocked). We also only had a one time insurance for when we damaged it, this lasted for your entire high school career, meaning you were covered one time in 4 years. You also had to pay a fee to even use those things, every semester, you had to turn them in at the end of the year, and u weren't even allowed to try and purchase them if u wanted to. We couldn't watch movies without having an accompanying worksheet, school events were dances with a limited and outdated playlist and band concerts (which happened on the same night and time as the art show). Football games were considered major school events by most students it was also the only place and times we could do something on compass that didn't have to be supervised, and speaking of football, they spent a massive amount of money building a jumbotron in our football stadium, which blasted music over the high school marching band during the opening of the game (the band would come out and play the national anthem, then go into two line playing the school's anthem as the football team charged out onto the field, the lines acting as a funnel runway of sorts, a longstanding tradition in which our principal decided to blast some remix of some rock song over). The marching band was also not allowed to play stand tunes during plays, we could only play when the football team was in huddle or getting ready for the next play. They even played ads on that jumbotron, I remember being half way through our halftime show (an award winning show mind you, we were very successful at competition) as a KFC ad came on. Needless to say, despite being called the pride of the county we were utterly disrespected by the school. In fact, most if the funding went to the stupid football team, all the other sports and clubs had to share what scraps remained, this meant that most marching band students had to pay in order to be apart of the band, the only school funding the band got was from the concession stands which the band had to run themselves. Emplemon, you had one year of frustration, I say you got lucky, I had 4, and what I've mentioned is only the start of the list. The school system was ran by a bunch of idiots that seemed to search for new way to screw students over, teachers who didn't care whether we passed or failed, they would send us to the office for talking back, usually resulting in a few days in ISS (in school suspension because it was illegal to actually suspend us), we couldn't go to the bathroom during class unless it was an emergency, could not be out for longer than 8 minutes, and that was pushing it. Kids pulled pepper spray on each other, wasnt in common for fights to end with someone getting tazed by the security (always fist fights, no one ever pulled a gun or knife, never). If something of yours got stolen good luck getting it back, all security would do is ask if you track it. Lockers were absolutely useless, even if it was in between all your classes you had only 6 minutes to visit it and get to class, I only met one student that actually used their locker. You were assigned your locker freshman year, that locker was yours until you graduated. Student parking was more trouble than what it was worth, 25 bucks a month for a single spot in one section of the parking lot, which was terribly designed, kids got rear ended all the time, and most kids didn't even drive to school, most rode the bus, walked, or rode with friend, usually in return for helping pay for the parking spot, they also gave all the good parking to the faculty, even the spots in the students parking area, it didn't help that getting a job was difficult due to a high county unemployment rate, rising poverty rate, and the only available jobs being fast food joints that always had too many people on the pay role, my sister only worked around 10 hours a week, you also had to pay for insurance if you had license, no insurance meant no license. Drivers ed was super crowded, around a 100 students crammed into the library, usually more, drivers ed was also only available 3 times a year, a week in fall and spring, and a week during summer break. Schools were also individually responsible for the courses that would be provided, and the list goes on and on and on, freshman year alone is a book within itself, and none of them are minor complaints, so count your lucky stars it wasnt worse, because it could of been soooooo much worse, your story is a good experience compared to the crap I've seen and went through, I dont even know how I came out being optimistic.

I could say my senior year was one of the best years of my life. I had friends, a car, a girlfriend, I put in enough effort to barely scrape by and graduate, and some kid shot up my school before first period once, so I got to hang out with my friends at a nearby dennys and got the day off. Yeah. It was great.

I've experienced nuclear rage plenty of times. My rage is like a radioactive isotope. It takes a long time for radioactive decay to turn it into lead, but any little thing just adds to the payload. The more anger, the longer it takes to simmer down. A cable not plugging in, a paper not getting in my bag, dropping something. ANY LITTLE THING ADDS TO THE BLAST RADIUS. One time I had such a shit day, I was sitting at my desk just one problem more away from detonating. Then Some piece of shit decided to joke to his friend, (loud enough for me to hear) just so he could piss me off. He decided to joke about my hair. I like to keep my hair long, but other people think I should cut it, cuz I'm a dude. He called me a "shaggy hair motherfucker" and I fucking blew. I went over to the shelf in the class. Grabbed a pen and went Tsar Bomba. I Yelled that I couldn't fucking take it anymore and that I was going to kill myself because of him. (Behold. The effects of nuclear rage on my judgement) I spent the rest of the day in ISS(In School Suspension) had to fill out a suicide prevention plan, AND got counseling, all because of him. He didn't get punished for making me explode, though. But he and nobody else in that room messed with me ever again after that.

Usually what I do to prevent having to get a locker is carry EVERYTHING in my bookbag, sure it's heavy as hell but at least I never have to worry about rushing to the locker between classes and at least then I won't have to worry about someone trying to steal stuff from my locker

Mad respect for you actually caring about education, I wasn't smart enough for honors classes and was robbed of my high school education because I was stuck in general classes

Hey Emp. Has IB been beneficial to you after High school? I'm in it now and I hate it but I don't want to drop it either. I just started my junior year.

I remember senior year, I was 2 years ahead and as I was about to graduate when the school took away almost 45 credits from me because of a "transcript change" for the entire school. Well turns out I was the only one that got fucked. So after me and my teacher who was such a champ and actually did his fucking job and cared for the kids fought the school district I was able to graduate........a year later. So I only graduated 1 year early and lost my spot that I would of had working for 343 industries and Microsoft. So when I say I fucking hate school, I FUCKING HATE SCHOOL.

At my school, you can't have your phone out before the first bell rings, or at lunch.
You can also get detention for walking on grass.

@EmpLemon My High School graduation last year was a fiasco in preparation, we have a local concert hall that since it was built, housed graduation events for both my school and another nearby highschool. But this year the person who was supposed to talk to the casino that owns it, didn't in fact talk to them for 3 quarters of the school year, then when the person finally put in a request, we got the finger and the school was denied because of blatant laziness. To make matters worse that same person blames THE FUCKING SENIOR CLASS for it, and we spend weeks upon weeks discussing what we want to do about it, but no one gave a fuck, because we were all in our little cliques, so we could never really come to agree on anything except the fact that we had to do graduation in the tiny ass gym (it was so crowded the gym went up at least 20 degrees during graduation). Next we had to order chairs, so we voted between renting for the year, or buying them straight out. The students mostly voted for renting because the concert hall would still be available to future grades. Just when things seemed alright, we find out the parents also voted, they came to a VAST majority of votes in favor of buying full out, because the casinos they work for "apparently" wouldn't let them have the day off to go to their kid's graduation. The same person who was supposed to get us hooked up with the concert hall went with buying straight out. Each of us seniors had to pay 10$ and sell at least ten tickets (that I never got of course), parents had to pitch in a lot of money to help fill the gap. But here is where I and many of the seniors at the time get tipped to the breaking point, That same person from before then starts meetings up about a senior gift for the school, keep in mind it was only Seniors and their parents that paid for all the chairs, most of us were very firm in saying "we have given them a gift!" The chairs that God knows, how many seniors will get to use for graduation. She wasn't satisfied with that answer so she kept trying to force our hands into doing a gift, but we as a class put our foot down and refused. It was a good year but those last weeks were utterly hell.

I think that high school’s should treat senior year like a “college prep course”. Students paying for classes and books, no use of lockers, finals before Christmas break, school getting out in mid May, etc.

Ironically enough, my freshman year was so far the worst in my life. I don't even want to talk about it.

hey im curious what did u end up studying in college? hope things are working out. my college experience was kinda bad, but i wasnt as mature as you were for an 18 year old. so, altough the education level for my expectations was preety underwhelming, i wasnt up for the challenge. the challenge being, learning to love learning about stuff.

The seniors at my school played hentai in the middle of the school this year

I was part of a new Early College High School program and was part of the original 100 freshmen which meant we were always the seniors compared to everyone else since all the new students were only ever freshmen. We spent the first two years sharing campus with another High School. The last two years were spent on campus of the local university, University of Texas at Brownsville. All the while we never had a library, sports track, or really much of anything. They began work on our official school building and they finished after I graduated. I graduated 6 years ago and I still don't know how my school looks like.

That moment when you know what IB is and you have to do it in 2 years. Suicide sounds pretty good!

I remember back in high school, our library was at the top of the main building, and that's where I spent my time in the mornings and at lunch. Very quiet, peaceful, light classical music playing in the background, and a huge window overlooking the courtyard of the school. It was peaceful, serene, tranquil, and wonderful. Just the most idyllic place to curl up with a good book and read before your classes started.

Then my senior year started, and the freshmen shut down the library a week after school started after a fiasco involving foot fetish porn and graffiti.

Well emp, at least you had a full senior year. Meanwhile i just learned that i had my last day of public school a month ago without realizing it. No prom, no class night, and no graduation for me and my classmates, some of which i'll probably never see ever again.

I have this theory that Emp's senior year made him so mad, it actually mentally broke him, causing him to go into a downward spiral of dank memes. I mean, the timeline matches up, his senior year was just about when he stopped making YTP's, which was about last year.

You know the shit people put freshmen through? I was able to skip that somehow... My first year of high school was at a school that taught all grades from K-12 that I've been in ever since kindergarten. Freshmen got no hate because most older kids already knew them and my grade in particualar was well respected (for being idiots along with the rest of everyone, and since I wasn't an idiot, no one in my grade cared about me). I then moved to a new school recently that was actually normal, and they hated the freshmen. Except I skipped that and was starting as a sophomore. I feel a little like I've cheated life and now it's going to do something bad to me for something I did unintentionally...

I remember getting a great parking spot my senior year, and constantly had sophomores who weren't allowed to drive, juniors who didn't wanna walk up and down the giant ass hill (which I had to do every day after football practice and workouts) and ignorant people. If that happened, I'd have to go park in a visitors space, which were likely filled up by ignorant parents, and again, lazy people. The fact I didn't get a ticket parking in the places I had to(which included next to a gate in front of the alternative school and in a spot for emergency vehicles) is either a miracle, or a testament that every cop there knew how screwed up parking was

Feel so bad for Emp. In my senior year, a friend of mine skipped 15 days off school, had to serve 25 detentions (served none) and got more privileges than all the freshman students.

I remember watching this when I was a freshmen in highschool, after hearing what you went through as a SENIOR, it changed my perspective about the totem pole. Always stayed/respected those above me. In a weird way, this video sort of shaped how I acted in highschool. I graduated this year and feel free from highschool, I have a part time job and will be starting college soon. I hope I don’t crash and burn in the future. I love your video emp, love the directing that you’ve chosen with your channel, I hope you continue with it!

At first I thought it was a coincidence that everything you were saying applied to my school that year (I was there your senior year, I was a sophomore), but then I saw that aerial photograph and the honeycomb building structure and realized YOU FUCKING WENT TO MY SCHOOL. I was literally at the same school as a YouTube god for 2 years and never knew it until now. I'm so ashamed of myself.

Well, here at my school you're not allowed to drive, so you are forced to take a 3 hour bus ride to and from school, you can't be late or else you risk getting kicked out, you must not have your phone, even in case of emergency, you will be forced to go to work(work literally isn't as bad as school there// it's better). And of course, they tell you to go to bed and get a good nights sleep, however, you can't get that, as when you get home, you'd literally have to go straight to bed to do that.

In short, it's wake up at 4 in the morning, hop on that bus at around 5, get there at 7:30, grab your wardrobe, and then walk 20 min to school which starts at 8.
Then spend 3 hours being screeched at to do your online course, and leave at 11... or 11:18, which gives you little time to eat.
You'd have to spend like... 20 bucks on something miniscule if you don't have a voucher from your work, the prices are only increasing. Spend another 3 hours at work, and go back to the bus for another 3 hour ride home.
Also another thing, you can't be picked up, you aren't allowed to take a taxi or an uber, no screw that, let your life waste away into the ground on a bus that drops off 20 kids who always complain about them not getting home before 6.
I get home after 6 and it's infuriating.

i was a freshman the same year emp was a senior, now i’m going to be a senior this fall and i turn 18 in a few months. i understand things now that i didn’t when i first started high school, and it pisses me off that freshmen think they’re way cooler than they really are. my school parking lot is a sack of shit as well because it’s so crowded and other juniors don’t know they have to let people out of their parking spots sometime, so whenever i try to back out i usually get honked at. other than that, i try to enjoy the things my school has to offer like the hour-long lunch and hopefully my senior year won’t suck as badly as emp’s.

My senior year wasn't as bad as my first college one. Personal and family issues were already there, but in my first year at university things got a turn for the far worse, I even thought of throwing myself into the tracks or in front of a lorry.

Hopefully this next year isn't as shitty, but I can only hope.

I had a very similar disaster for my senior year, I was also doing the IB so I’m starting to think that the school screwing over the lives of IB students is just part of the IB program.

Man, my old middle school had IB, even though it was literally the worst school in my area

I don't want to downplay your crappy school year, but I had to deal with crap on an administrative level. The quick version is that in June 2015, The School Board for my district held a meeting to vote on renovating my elementary school, as well as two others. Those renovations would include air conditioning (yes, we didn't even have AC.) and adding a new wing for Special Ed. Everybody liked the idea of their kids not dying of heat stroke, so it was a unanimous "Yes!". But in November, the District sent out an email that just looked like all the other spam they send you, only this email contained something much more important. It said that instead of renovating the schools, they were going to CLOSE them. And, not surprisingly, the people complained. Mrs.Tortellini, the District Superintendent, claimed that the schools were costing too much and had too low of a student population to be helping the district. Sounds reasonable, right? Except for the fact that we just received a huge payday from State, so we were fine Financially. but she said that she planned on combining each of the school's population into one big SuperSchool. And there were lots of valid questions. When is this new school being built? Where will our kids go until it's built? How much will this all cost? But they were ignored. My mother, furious that the School Board could do something like that without consequence, started planning with other parents on how to protest this decision, as well as filing lawsuits against The District. At first, we thought that Mrs.Tortellini just didn't see the damage she was causing, but then when we found out who we were paying to build the new SuperSchool, it all fell into place. Mrs.Tortellini was planning on hiring XYZ Inc. to build the school, a company which just happened to be run by Mr.Tortellini, Mrs.Tortellini's husband. She was essentially pocketing money meant to be spent on children's education. And even though my mother spent two whole years fighting it, the schools closed anyway (don't worry, by the time it closed I had already graduated elementary). And once my parents realized that the District was a sinking ship, I transferred to a new one. And the bullshit continues. here's a quick list of stuff she's done:
1. With her closing three schools and the SuperSchool still in planning phase, there was a large amount (around 800) students who didn't have a place to learn. So she decided to shove all of those students into an already crowded school. Because of this, there aren't enough classrooms for everybody so some people have to learn sitting out in the fucking hallway. Also during "Passing time" (the five or so minutes you get between classes to get a drink, talk to friends, and grab stuff from your locker) has become absolute anarchy.
2. Because of the new influx of students, bus drivers have to now memorize 5x as many stops as they used to. This, of course, leads to bus drivers missing stops and even getting lost. It got so bad that a kindergartner had to try to give directions to his bus driver on how to get to his house. Think about how scary that would be. Hell, sometimes entire classes had to be postponed because of how many late students there were.
3. And finally, to try and hotfix the bus problem, Mrs.Tortellini bought a FOUR MILLION DOLLAR school bus lot that she can't even use because it's outside district boundaries. Jesus Christ, that has got to be one of the stupidest mistakes I have ever heard.
And there are plenty more, but if I were to list them all this comment would be a mile long. Even though I have escaped the crappiness of my district, I still have friends and classmates there, doomed to severe mediocrity for the rest of their academic career. I hope this near-thesis on the mistakes made by my district's School Board can one day help save another district from a similar fate. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

I kinda had a love/hate relationship with highschool. While it was fun at first as a freshman, i realized that it was just hell for me from that point foward. While i made some friends back then i really didn't like how they used to behave around me at times and girls were a bit of a jerk to you if you talked to them "popular girls" in this case. While i regret not putting enough attention or effort to it i guess at the time i didn't care, highschool was just to me a place to me where i could just hang out and talk to some people out of boredom. I graduated but never got my diploma because reasons since i didn't attended graduation (Never went to any of my graduations tbh) i came to the conclusion that if i had put much more effort into things instead of slacking things would've been better for me, and while i hated being told that "you'll never acheive things in life" as a way to make you scared i should have taken that as motivation to strife for better. So if you're someone who's going to highschool this year my advice to you is to enjoy every second of it, sure it's a bit hell-ish but it's worth it. Also, do your best to excell on it so you can have a careeer in the future and make a living.

i remember when we had to choose our supplementary novels, and i chose Oliver Twist, because it would give me more material to use for the essay coming up at the end of school. We were gonna have 3 quizzes scattered around the semester, and seeing as they were all gonna be short multiple choice quizzes, i was confident.


THEN the first quiz came around, and i saw that while everyone else was getting multiple choice, Mr [English Teacher] slapped me with a short answer quiz. It's not that i wasn't prepared, but the thing is that i was angry that i was the ONLY STUDENT stuck with this kind of test.
It's discrimination within the classroom, and why should i be punished for choosing a long book like Oliver Twist?

I kinda got lucky as hell. My grandma and uncle works at my district with a good reputation with the rest of the staff so I got the lucky end of the stick. Though I am still on my ass on my grades.

watching this before the last day of high school here. Senior year has actually been the worse year of my entire life because personal issues, and man I'm sure looking forward to get done with this and I'm DEDICATED to making this summer the best I've had. I can reach to your honors program storey because I tried hard as fuck in highschool and got rejected from my National Honors Society both of my last year's and missed graduating with Honor's by literally 0.01% which I do have in fact made up this trimester which they don't count. Oh boy that definitely feels like a huge slap in the face for sacrificing many things to do my best. But that's what senior year taught me, sometimes you just have to let life fuck you over because it definitely won't be the last time.

Hey Emp, I'm a senior in high school as well, though I don't go to my public school. It's a different high school, more flexible on work, which in a way I don't appreciate because it feels like I've been taught the things I've already knew about. We also never had homework by the way, which I found annoying. I admire you as a high school student, and honestly I wish I was like you in terms of your academic achievements and your attitude towards high school. I've had shitty SAT scores but a decent B average GPA, and I plan to retake it once I find out if I'm approved for certain accommodations, including a longer test time. I wish that I've went to public high school all my years of attending at least three different schools in four years, but college is much more important to me right now. Do you have any advise on how to cope with such situations? I'd be glad to hear advice from a YouTuber that actually knows how to make me laugh! :)

I'm deeply sorry for what you had to go through, and I hope the rest of your education gets better. It really does sound like a shitty experience to go through. Makes me grateful that I had a (relatively) normal high school experience, and that my high school decided not to go to shit until after I graduated (even though the stuff they do now is peanuts compared to what you went through). A fair bit of warning, you MIGHT start to have back to school nightmares pretty frequently. Apparently, there's a part of your brain that got so used to going to school at the same exact time every day, it feels the need to make you re-live that every night when you go to sleep. There are people in their 90's that still have back to school nightmares.

Oddly Freshman year was my favorite year of highschool. It was the last year they had block schedule which was 4 subjects a day for 1 semester. After that they switched to period schedule which was 7 subjects for the whole year. This made all the difference and I went from happy to miserable instantly.

This made me think of how when people ask me "do you ever wish you didn't have cancer those years ago" I say "No, because the lessons I learned were too valuable"

I know how you feel. Last year, when I became a senior, the school district thought it would be a good idea to bring the 7th and 8th graders into our school, filling our small school with over 1800 students. That was passable They also treated the Honors/AP students terribly. Whatever. But the worst was my guidance counselor. He had FORGOT TO SEND IN MY TRANSCRIPTS TO MY COLLEGE. This caused me to not be admitted into the engineering program at the college. And then he forgot AGAIN for three OTHER times. I'm happy to be out of there, and college is SO much better.

In NZ high school (well at least my high school anyway) they let you have lockers but they're largely seen as a junior (year 9 and 10) thing. At least with me, the novelty of it quickly wore off as I realized that for most of the subjects except math (and PE in year 9 and 10) we did most of the work using our laptops, so we didn't really need at least half the books on the stationery list. So in year 10 I decided to get a locker again but I would just use it to store all the stuff I knew I wouldn't need most of the time. On the first day I shoved a bunch of useless books in there and that proved to be the only time I used it that year until the last day when I had to clear it out. So yeah, with the rise of digital technology in the classroom in NZ lockers here are becoming increasingly useless.

The entry-levels at my office have been already over themselves on Day 1 in recent years. This video is illuminating on why.

I'm a year younger than you. In my senior year I basically realized how little school mattered in the grand scheme of things and threw my hands up and said fuck it, and dropped out halfway through. Not fucking kidding. Got a GED and I'm going to college still. I'm not a dumb kid, got a 1330 on the new SAT (out of 1600). I had a 3.4 gpa because I was too lazy to do any better (also severe adhd but I don't want to use that as an excuse for poor performance, even though I am actually diagnosed with it). My school administration has been going on a downward spiral (kek) for many years. My class was the last to escape relatively unscathed. All grades below mine have to deal with their sjw friendship equality bullshit, participation trophies, all that shit. They also pulled the same shit on us when we became seniors, giving the frosh preferential treatment and demanding we be nice to them. I don't know about other schools but at mine it was tradition for the seniors to shout "FOUR MORE YEARS" at the freshman during the first few weeks and at assemblies and shit. They enacted a zero tolerance policy on that and anybody caught saying it got detentions. Just a bunch of fucking bullshit overall. Also the school had solar panels installed in the parking lot, which took up over half of the spaces at a time (they didnt do it all at once) for the first half of the year at least. I was talking to my physics teacher one day and he said that he was talking to one of the engineers who was heading the project, and our principal had them purposely install the panels at an inefficient angle because it looked better. She didn't give a shit about being "green", it was just for the appearance.

As a freshmen at my high school I can say 100% that seniors should have priority, and especially honor students. I'm also going to all AP classes and VLACS credits where ever I can find them, and I don't want to spend the next 3 years busting my ass off to get put behind the fucking 6th graders.

Fuck yeah man. I'm finally a senior this year. My school treats us alright as seniors. We get our own lounge area, exclusive parking spaces (didn't pay 20 bucks for it), and goddamn respect. Freshies are treated as they should be. They're annoying little shits who have yet to learn. They often get bumped around in the halls since there's a shit ton of people who go to my high school and because they walk on the wrong side of the fucking hall way. Legit you walk on the right side. Not the fucking left.

Anyways freshies don't understand their place yet. Since school start a couple weeks ago. But they should be getting it down by now. I was a freshman before. It's just the roll everyone plays. You get fucked with your first year. And seniors will be viewed as entitled pricks by upperclassmen. But seniors should be known as the dominant. That's the way.

Something like this happened my sister once, she needed a computer for exam studies but it some freshmen took it to play some shitty FPS they played ironically. I felt guilty because I was a freshmen at the time. It shows schools choose to help freshmen over seniors who really deserve help.

Now being a senior myself and having a pretty cush start, it sucks to see a more try-hard former senior have such a degrading start. This is too real. My school had all sorts of things the Seniors used to do then all the sudden the four years I was there they slowly took away everything and gave us one week of "activities".
They had a class trip to sixflags, which was like okay cool, BUT THE NEXT DAY THEY HAD US DO COMMUNITY SERVICE. WE GOT HOME FROM SIXFLAGS AT 1 AM AND THEY HAD US DO COMMUNITY SERVICE AT 8 AM.

As school is finally back again, I take a look at this video to see how fucked things could get. Now that covid is a thing, I can imagine things will become a lot, lot worse.

My senior year was the year the administration decided to add 9th graders the high school. It had always been a 10-12 school until now. They had two years of construction to add space for the influx of students, which wasn't a bad thing since the new spaces were better than the older ones.

The problem was that in an attempt to make the freshmen comfortable, they turned high school into middle school. They added this weird block scheduling thing on Wednesdays and thursdays, brought back advisory which was a half-hour of boredom, and they introduced a new flex block hour. Flex block was just a less flexible version of collab time, which was where you got a class period to meet with teachers, do homework, or just spend time with friends. Flex on the other hand required you to sign up for a teacher or be thrown into the auditorium for quiet study. And due to the new attendance policy if you got signed up for a teacher, you were stuck with them the whole hour. At least I took solace in knowing all the teachers hated the new system.

There was also the one time when the conservative club sued the school over some Veterans Day protest. And my tenth grade history teacher went to jail for looking at child pornography on his computer.

It was an interesting year.

For me, it was junior high school that takes the cake. Nothing really happened for three years. Just another day after another of unremarkable feats. I wasn't even motivated to do my homework. It was until I approved my English certificate (I'm Mexican) and my high school acceptance letter that I was pumped again in a long time (academically speaking at least).

As a fellow Canadian, my high-school already assigns you a locker and there are two parking lots, one for teachers and another for students/visitors.

I'm a freshman and I agree. We shouldn't have as many rights as the ones who've been here for so much longer. Also I don't know why other freshmen complain about the work, it's easy and I had almost an A+ in every class.

School for me was a fucking joke. I didn't really realize it until about freshman year. Middle school was an absolute shit show, and I actually developed anxiety during it.

Senior year was so easy for me. All I did was hang out with friends, do the bare minimum to get straight A's, and worked hard enough to be a varsity football captain.

I was nearly brought to tears with laughter.

After almost 5 and a half minutes of slightly quiet talking, 5:45 scared the shit out of me.

I find myself asking a certain question frequently. At what point does the human brain shut down. At what state of retardedness will it be. Below the average intelligence of a molecule of air? As one idiotic decision after another is made, will there eventually come a time when the human brain willingly becomes a vegetable? This is a matter so incomprehensible that we will sooner fully document the secrets of the conscious after death. It looks like that school board were trying to reach that point to figure it out. I'm not sure what we will find when we get there, but it appears that we will know the first people to get there.

Senior year can be very stressful when you are trying not to slack and you're doing everything you can to apply for scholarships and apply to a million different colleges. It's not as enjoyable as people make it out to be. But you just have to make the best of it and realize that this is it after this year you're done with public school. Despite all the stresses of senior year and the unfortunate events, you'll go far if you just keep your head up and get through it.

To be Honest, senior year can only ever be a letdown. They always tell you it will be the best year of your life just to give you hope, but it simply cannot be. Looking back 10 years ago now I had some good times, but man the first semester of college was better. Then college slowly got worse every semester until I was just ready to graduate.

The best of my life has come since finishing college, starting a career, getting married, and having a kid. (Not in that particular order).

Tell me about it, man. My senior year wasn't as bad as yours, but I was extremely depressed and demotivated since I was experiencing a dysfunctional relationship. Compared to my Freshman year where I got all A's, my Senior year consisted of F after F. My band director and counselors were always grilling my ass about failing. I wasn't able to perform for most events regarding band as well. Most of the Trombone section that I led despised me. I was bottom 61% of my class, and I had a GPA of 2.2. Not even my girlfriend at the time (who was top 10% NHS with a GPA of around 3.5) couldn't help me. It wasn't until the final month of the year that I clutched and barely graduated. Now that I'm in college, I hold a 3.4 GPA and I intend to keep it that way, despite my ex saying how her new partner is so much more of a man than me. I use that as motivation to build myself, and to constantly brand in my mind that things will get better, and they will get better.

At least I get to go to a self-taught, open classroom school where I can get college credit easily instead of regular high school.

The previous Senior Class was the reason we lost all the perks my Senior class was supposed to have, including:

>not having to ID yourself to use the library or other computer labs during lunch in order to do work.

Overall, it seems that public schools in Australia are democratic schools in comparison to schools in the USA.

My senior year was very easy. I had 1 book I kept left in class and went to a career center or what ever where I messed around with computers for 3 hours a day sitting in very comfortable chairs in air conditioning. My first class was in an air conditioned room where I messed around making animations, folllowed by English, and physics (English was easy and Physics was meh), and then lunch followed by getting on a bus for 30-45 minutes playing on our school laptops to go to the career center.

You struggle your entire school life to get to senior year, because senior year is this amazing experience of great times and easy rolling. But you get there, and it's just the same old shit, in a different toilet. Yeah, you can drive now, but you still gotta wait for traffic to clear just like every johnny freshman in the pick-up loop. The teachers are just as overworked and undermotivated, the staff is just as dumb, and the classwork is just as pointlessly unrelenting. Nothing's fucking changed.

My senior year was neat. We were having a new school built to replace the old school. For the first half of the year we were in the old building, then second half of the year, we were in the new building. So I was a part of the last graduating class of the old school and the first of the new.

I had the most shitty time of my life up until that point, rage building like you said and then i was wrongly accused of "Sneaking out behind the teachers back" (2 girls left with me, IN FRONT OF ME) when the teacher said we would take a break. She lectured me for 45 minutes, cutting off EVERY SINGLE word i tried to say. 45!! MINUTES!!.

My Vision legit went black for a split second and when it returned, i stood upright and almost bashed her face in. She looked scared to death trying to escape leaning back in her chair.
Let me make it clear that i'm COMPLETELY against beating up anybody, especially females if you are a guy (though to be fair, she weighed at least 200kg more than me) and i also was able to stop myself from doing so just in time, i just didn't have control in that moment. But goddamn, was that a scary moment in my life.

Those freshmen are almost at your point. Now they will know the reality of senior year at this school.

I had a similar Senior year experience, but I got to do it at a brand new school because my mom kicked me out at the tail end of my Junior year. That was fun.

I am a freshman, and believe me, I know I ain't shit. I'm honestly not ready for the next 3 years...

Also that load of shit you went through sounds awful man. I had my own much different problems that involved me getting a special setup where I only went to school once every other week to pick up these massive packets I'd bust out in 2 days so I could work a part time job in my free time so I could afford to go to university. ...In retrospect, probably should have gotten a car instead of a master's degree... ...but hey, no student debt.

Things that confused me about this story:

1) Books are handed out at the library, not by the teacher in a classroom.
2) Planners are bought through a "school store" instead of at the supermarket or wherever (the only "store" the school had was the slushie machine in the cafeteria, and whoever was selling in between classes. I guess there was the occasional fund raiser, but that wasn't like a physical location or anything.)
3) Students choose their lockers, instead of being assigned a number by the school (generally based off of grade and proximity to classrooms of that grade level, to try and prevent fights, etc.)
4) You can "rent" a locker.
5) External locks are allowed on lockers, instead of the ones built into the locker (external locks would be cut off during routine drug and weapon sweeps, and people would get in trouble for attaching them even though locker break-ins were normal.)
6) Your books didn't come pre-waterlogged.
7) There was "honor student and general student parking" instead of just like, 15-20 spots that were reserved for the highest GPA seniors in the entire school.
8) Parents were permitted to drive up to the building at all (ours had an immediate pick-up/drop-off area that the cops sat around regularly due to it being a "security threat".)
9) You went into high school with faith in your school system.
10) You went into high school with the prospect of going to college.

I really didn't think public schools were that different in different places, but I mean...yeah. I genuinely have a hard time relating to any of the problems you mentioned in this video. Crazy.

However senior year was awesome and kinda fixed my shitty experience as a junior. I'm sorry you had to experience all that bullshit and trust me I know how you felt, like I said I experienced the bullshit junior year. Now that I'm starting my first year of college I realize that high school wasn't as hard as I thought it was back then now that I'm college. 5:55 God emp when you mentioned this I automatically got flash backs of 4th grade I was In special ed (for some reason) and the celling always leaked out this brown stuff witch was dirty water and it got EVERYWHERE the floors the desks the doors it was awful and it wasn't just in our class it was In EVERY CLASS it even got on the news and eventually they replaced all the ceilings and fixed the pipes to stop the leaking. a lot of shit happened in my school years I'll tell you all about it one day.

My middle school lied to the entire student base and told us we were an IB school. At the end of the 8th grade after 3 years of IB level work we were told they were just trying to get the IB certifications and needed a boost to their grade averages to get it. I had no faith in any school system after that. Alot of the parents even looked into suing the school after that but nothing came of it.

Have you seen that movie falling down? I've had a day where everything that could go wrong to me did. At the end I had a Fullcore meltdown and in my eyes, everything caught fire. In my last year they decided that only the youngest year (first year for middle school for Americans) were aloud to have lockers and were given alot of safe spaces and special times to do things.

I'm a freshmen, but over here, we don't use lockers or textbooks. I'm not saying that we have it easier (I'm in advanced classes, and trust me, they're anything but easy), but I understand how you feel. The thing to understand, though, is that they give a bit more priority to freshmen because they're just getting to know the whole process and all. granted, letting the freshmen choose first is a bit on the stupid side, but they're like you: They don't want a dirty locker.

lol my school district was very very different from yours. I live in a very rich town so most of the time everything including lockers planners and textbooks are provided for free with the public school system so alot of the things you had to worry aboout were null void for me. As well as the fact that all of the lockers are cleaned over the summer.

I remember, back in 7th grade, my nuclear rage got built up so bad that I whopped a kid just for looking at my oddly. I got suspended. Then pulled out of school by my mom. Fun.

Now i feel like purposely failing my classes so im not in the super hard classes.

Public Revisionist History and Self Important Overly Expensive Indoctrination are much better descriptions of high school and college. After a long time working with people with advanced degrees I have learned one thing; the only guarantee a degree can give of a person's intelligence or aptitude is the assurance that they can put up with other people's asinine bullshit for an extended period of time. There has to be a better way to teach people and gauge competency.

A bit different than what I went through in trade school in NYC years back.
School started Oct 3rd and ended on June 28th
No lockers, textbooks were kept in the classrooms.
Small parking lot for teachers.
Kids took the bus/train.

My middle school did even worse with the lockers. It was an old ass school that was absolutely named after a certain confederate general known for being like, one could say, a rocky, free-standing barrier of sorts. They did not have enough lockers for every student to begin with which meant that some students actually had to share with randomly assigned partners, that you absolutely were not allowed to change without written approval that they basically never gave out. Well, you know, unless you wanted to wind up getting blamed, charged, and disciplined for someone carving swastikas and slurs into them when they got inspected during the check-in inspection at the end of the year. Not that it made a difference, because since you shared a locker in the first place you would always be blamed for damage to it caused by the other person, with no actual chance for recourse. I knew so many kids who wound up getting detention or even suspended from school for their lockers having awful shit scribbled on them in sharpie, even though, you know, one kid was a fucking honor student and the other was already selling weed in the bathrooms at age 12 and had already been arrested for beating someone so badly in the locker room that they had to be hospitalized overnight and constantly talked about the gang he was in. No, clearly there is no way to tell which one of them did it, better suspend both of them and fuck up the honor student's reputation and grades, possibly irreparably, because that would be UNFAIR.

This isn't even the worst part. The worst part was the fact that you would have zero recourse if your shit got stolen or destroyed by the other person. Which happened all the time, and the response was always along the lines of "Welp, that book sure was school property, and even though it was found in the bathroom with death threats and the same gang signs that your locker buddy had been seen drawing all over his notebooks and school desks carved into them with a knife, this book was YOUR responsibility and so now you owe the school $350 for a replacement."

Still not the worst part. STILL NOT THE FUCKING WORST PART. I'm fucking 30 and this shit still makes me furious because it was just symptomatic of everything I hated about school all wrapped up and tied off with a little bow. So you think, "OK, so my locker is no longer a safe place to put my things because I got assigned to share it with a violent sociopath who I am frankly afraid to even run into at the locker in the first place. I guess I'll just carry all my shit around with my in my back pack. It sucks, but at least I won't potentially wind up with thousands of dollars in fines from the school at the end of the year for all the damaged and stolen books in addition to whatever personal property gets destroyed. Besides, despite the fact that the school actually groups classrooms kind of roughly in the same areas except for elective classes, which are also all grouped together, they did not think to assign the fucking lockers using this same logic so my locker is quite literally on the other side of the building and on a different floor from every single class I have and is literally impossible for me to get there and back without sprinting before the bell rings. So, yeah, I'll just carry all my shit around every day. Problem solved, and this way I might actually be able to avoid pissing myself since I can spend the time between periods going to the bathroom instead of running to the other side of the building to pick up my vandalized (or missing) stuff."

NOPE. Guess what. Because the school was so overcrowded, which was so bad that we were sharing fucking lockers, the school decided that they needed to reduce the overcrowding in the hallways between classes. And the only way they could think to reduce the physical volume the students took up in the hallways was to ban backpacks. Yep. You HAD to use a locker, that they did not fucking have enough of, and if you were seen carrying a backpack anytime except at the very end or very beginning of school (basically to or from the bus) you could be given detention or worse for not following this rule. Now, let me make this even fucking stupider. They told you that you could bring stuff to and from school in your back pack, but that you had to take that backpack to your locker, first. These lockers were absolutely not big enough for 2 students to do this. They didn't even have any sort of dividers to be able to keep stuff apart. There were 2 hooks in there, but they were both at the very top to only one could physically fit in that space horizontally. Their expectation was that you would show up and take all of your shit out of your locker, throw it in to the same pile as the other person's stuff, trust that nothing would get mixed up (at best) or jacked ( at worst the baseline expectation), and then pick your first book up and walk to class. Now, I mentioned sharing lockers, but did I mention that there were people splitting lockers 3 ways? No? Well, go fit 3 backpacks into 1 standard sized, half-height locker and tell me how that goes. But the truly asinine thing was that the way they handled the end of the day was basically to give you less than 5 minutes to go from your last class, to your locker, and out to the busses before the first round of busses would leave. So if you were one of those poor bastards who had to get on that first round of busses, you were just fucked. You did not have time to go to your locker before the bus showed up, you were not allowed to have a backpack to just have your shit ready to go before the last period, and if you missed your bus and, let's say, your dad didn't get home until late and your mom was a bus driver herself and so could not pick you up, either, well, you're fucked. You can literally make no right choice here that doesn't end with you either having to leave all your shit behind every day and fail every class for never being able to do your homework, always spending an extra few hours at school because it was physically impossible for you to get onto the bus in the allotted time, or always spending an extra few hours at school because you were constantly in detention for not following the impossible backpack ban.

So I carried all my shit around in a grocery bag for a year and told the teachers it was a fucking purse and that they could just fucking fight me about it. They didn't though, because the teachers all fucking hated it as much as we did, too, because students were ALL using shit like grocery bags, those really big old lady purses for the girls, or, you know, just constantly carrying all of their possessions around in their arms and then just dumping them on the ground under their desks when they got to class and constantly losing homework and shit. This was a school board and principal level decision made by people who did not have to deal with the consequences of their retarded-ass policies and who did not give a shit, either. Because if they gave a shit, the school board would buy more lockers or fucking expand the building (which they eventually did) but instead for the many years leading up to this overcrowding issue that everyone in the fucking county had been predicting and complaining about for over a decade they decided to spend money on shit like sports equipment and useless fucking IB class shit and all sorts of stuff that's super nice to have but demonstrates a complete fucking scrambling of priorities when you've got so many students in the halls that you have to take away their ability to carry their fucking school books and pencils to class so they can learn shit.

Still mad. And honestly that was just the last icing that broke my camels cherry on top when it comes to shit schools put kids through. (this is the least PERSONAL transgression that really bugged me, at least.)

In my sophmore year, we had 3 shooter lockdowns in the span of a month.

When I was a junior in high school the district said I was too poor. So they put me on something called job placement. They hooked me up with a construction company 1.5 hours away form the school. And said since you have all the credits to graduate we’ll just have you do this. I was an A B student. I tried to show up to football games but the teachers would ask me to leave. By saying I was making anonymous people uncomfortable. Point of reference my school was in Chillicothe and I was working in northern Columbus.

I could so relate to you. My school is also quite incompetent. We have a dress code and I was nearly put into detention for wearing a polo that was slightly blue. We also have these days cald dress down days that allow us to wear are actual cloths but we are fucking charged for it. Also my school is also an ib school. I was not familiar with it till the end of sec 2 and I keep hearing that we need to do 72 hours of labour in oreder to graduate. Eh, I'm a sophomore now and have the extreme fortune of my high school being with walking distance and the lockers are never used because most of them are broken. And all students get a planner for FREE. Also most classrooms in my school have texts books in them so I don't need to bring my own.

Currently a senior. And I feel for you man. Freshmen suck to a large level. But its okay to actually to get angry. Trust me. You have the right to get angry. Well my locker has been broken for 5 years in a row. I have a last name starting with "w" so every time they picked lockers (students don't get to choose lockers) I always got my locker picked last. Thus, I always got the broken locker.
The first year it just didn't open, the second year it always flooded during class (maybe a pipe leak), the third year my locker didn't lock, the fourth year my locker also didn't lock, and my fifth year, this year, my locker is so far away from every single one of my classes (EVERY SINGLE ONE) that I am tardy for every class if I go to my locker and go back to class. Even for lunch the teachers always try to get me in trouble for roaming the halls because my locker is so far away from my class and the lunch room.

Yeah, my entire highschool period was cancer too. Graduated 2017.

Bro i did IB too. Graduated 2016. IB was glorified but I did learn more about perspective than I would have with regular classes. I did my EE on the last day. The reason I was able to finish it was because I basically made my history IA into my ee. My advisor was pissed but it worked. I just wrote a new history IA. Never regretted my decision and I'm majoring in something I love. Lmao TOK was ez and fun too. Overall IB is overrated by schools and colleges imo but you learn much more than that pre ap bs.

1. My locker was 3 floors from literally any of my classes.
2. There were no windows.
3. I didn't have a lunch.
4. Someone keyed my car for literally no reason, it wasnt even close to the school it was super far back in the lot.
5. All my friends had graduated.
6. They put me into a remedial gym class by accident and then never fixed it despite writing at least 3 emails to guidance.

The most important and useful class in school I ever had so far was Financial Literacy in Freshmen year, it taught you how to do taxes, how to use debit and credit cards correctly, how insurance works and how many types there are, how to get and keep a good credit score, how bank loans work, and how to set up a savings account. It taught me more useful things than most of algebra ever did.

Ok, I want you to know that you're not alone in being fucked over by the administration. I go to a private school, but I am far from rich. I go there because I get a financial aid package. Because of the fact that my parents weren't paying the school as much, I was deliberately mistreated by the school. And it wasn't just that my grade was mistreated or that a specific portion of it was mistreated, but because I got a scholarship I personally was mistreated. Just to give you an example of how much they favor the rich kids, there was this one kid in my older brother's grade who actually grabbed a student and threw him through a doorway, breaking the door. He was expelled for this particular instance, but he had many other offenses such as being under the influence of drugs during school hours and a few minor scuffles. However, because this kid had rich parents, they were able to buy him back into the school! Of course, technically it was a donation to the school and they decided to ret-con their decision to expel the kid even though the student disciplinary committee ruled that he was a danger to other students, but the implication still stands that they were able to pay enough money to have their son un-expelled like magic. And then let's get to the injustices against me! I'm going into my junior year at this school, and I still have a ton of shit to talk about!! I am currently in the level of science courses directly below AP but just above the idiot classes, but in freshman year I was put in the class with the idiots despite having great marks in sciences and being someone who can latch onto scientific stuff pretty quick. So, in my freshman physics class, I just played it cool and did the work I was assigned, like a good little worker bee. I never got below an A on any assignment, and I thought that surely that would place me where I belong, right? NOPE!!! next year I'm in with the idiots again for chemistry! So, this time I decide to try my best and really wow the teacher in the work and in class discussions! for the entire year my hand was the first to be raised when the teacher asked a question, my reading notes were the most well done, my tests never sunk below a 96, and I had to bear doing two person projects BY MY FUCKING SELF and answering questions from my peers such as (and I am not falsifying here, these are all questions I was asked) "are noble gasses metals?" and "Which of these elements are atoms?" and "Cu is the symbol for carbon, right?" and "How do particles move around in the air if they're lighter than air?" And after a full school year of doing this shit, which was far more monotonous than it was difficult since I was in a stupid class for stupid people, the fateful day finally comes... course assignments. So, to get into an AP course from a level below the advanced level you need to get a recommendation from your teacher. So I think "well great! my teacher loves me! we talked about theoretical physics together, he likes how I always know the answers to class questions, and he even gives me special treatment because I get 100% on all my tests!" I go to him and say "hey, I'm looking to get into the AP, can I get a recommendation?" he replies "well, I'll get you into the honors course, but you have to work your way up to AP." I'm very confused as an initial reaction, but then I walk out, saying "alright, fine I guess" and I manage to keep the exchange amicable, since I'm VERY good at acting like I'm not angry due to my family and friends, but I am FUMING at this point. I am very, very, VERY mad. But I wasn't even thinking that it was because of a prejudice against kids who couldn't pay for tuition. So, the very next week I'm talking to an acquaintance of mine and I find out that the kid who asked me "how do particles move around in the air if they're lighter than air?" got let into the AP class, and of course I'm furious cuz he never even cared about the class. But then, I see them placing a new brick in a wall on which they write the names of generous donors, and what do you know, it was the name of this kid's dad!!! Anyways, storytime over. I think one of the biggest problems with the American school system is the size of schools. Instead of having giant central compounds designed to teach thousands of kids, I think we should have schools with about 10 kids in each class and maybe like 30 in each grade. This is how school was like for me and when I talk about it with other people, I tend to find that the system I was in is/was much more pleasant than the public school system.

Lel people surely have wildly different standards, public highschool in greece is prison-tier (legit our school was a repurposed prison). Drug deals were happening all the way from middle-school, barely functioning stalls with no seats meaning you gotta squat to poo and you gotta bring your own toilet paper. Obviously no lockers and if you ever left anything of value in your bag you'd see it stolen by the end of the day. Yet still that was just the standard for us so we didn't complain, all people cared about was skipping as much class as possible and for the kids trying to learn a few things all they wanted was for the class to not be total chaos so they can listen to the teacher.

My favorite thing about my school. Freshmans parents complaining to faculty that their kids were failing so the entire district enacted the 50% rule. That means if you don't turn in an assignment instead of getting a big fat 0% that made you work hard to counter that. People instead got a 50% which kept their grades from plummeting when they were lazy. As long as you showed up to class and did maybe 3 assignments a quarter you could pass no problem. Gotta reward the lazy and stupid.

I've been told that senior year is going to be the greatest year. Doesn't feel like it and I have 2 months left. The classes that I enjoy in my high school, are my AP macro eco and stats classes. The other classes are either smelling with my morning breath, vape, or downright ass. Some kids smoke fucking weed(just a pinch) or vape in the fucking class rooms. They mostly do it in my English class. All of my classes except for AP macro are the easiest little shits you can do. They're an easy A+++++++++++++++++++++++++. Macro is a solid easy B, but an easy A+ if you focus more on that instead of the other classes you chose to have. Funny how my school is supposedly to be in top 10% of best High Schools of California, but the other HS I went to before I transferred here, is way fucking better by a fucking landslide in the fucking ratings and that school fucked me over multiple times. Honestly, this school year is on par with my sophomore year. At least I don't have wake up early to learn shit that will eventually disappear from my memory after I Ieave HS.

I dont really pay attention in my cp classes and i still get A's and B's... Idk I always found school kind of easy, i just sort of try to stay in the back and only pay attention whenever i get confused by homework, but they give you books that whatever tf you're learning is based off of, so just look it up.

What the fuck, you had to PAY for a fucking locker!?!? At my high school, we give students a locker that they use for all 4 years. They are assigned randomly, every student gets one, you can use it or not use it. We also have open periods, where you can literally do whatever the fuck you want. You can study or do homework, leave campus and go to the convenience store, or chill out in the common areas and make a cup of noodles in a portable water heater and fuck around with your friends. Open periods are usually only saved for the Juniors and Seniors because they get top priority over everything, especially the Seniors. My high school honestly does whatever the fuck they have to do to get students across the stage and a diploma in their hands. Why? Because it makes the school look good, and when they look good, they get more money from the state. Whabam.

My school was terrible from the get go, so all the nonsense they did senior year didn't phase me. Personal life just decided to dick me down xD

I honestly hate the fact we have to just let the state raise and indoctrinate our kids to prepare them for the bleak and depressing reality that lays ahead of them and this is somehow the fucking norm. Sure school prepares them for a harsh reality since its like 1/10th as soul crushing as the real world but it sure as hell didn't give me any ambition or hope to work towards something. I hate we cannot find a better system to fix this absolute feeling of hopelessness when looking to the future at least in my case. Having everyone be home schooled would obviously not be much better cause as the saying goes "all children deserve parents but not all parents deserve children." There are just too many shit parents for a system like that to work for society as a whole. I feel like a mix of both (state/home schooling) would be best even though that's basically what we do already but managing what is taught and by whom and in what environment is honestly what needs to change imo. The school environment was honestly just the worst part for me there's nothing specific I can really give other than just having the feeling of rather being dead than having to sit in a fucking concreate building 6 hours a day 5 days a week. I just did what I could to get by I sat down always alone did my menial work like a fucking zombie drone every single day just so I could get it over with. And finally after 4 years of this soulless repetitive bullshit I was done didn't even go to the graduation ceremony I was the happiest I'd have ever been to finally be done with it. Now I'm stuck, after 4 of the most depressing years of my life I have 0 goals or ambitions to do anything and am content rotting in my mothers basement at 20 years old. Thanks American public education system you sure did prepare me well.

Wow. I feel bad. But you know you are very true, students are just treated as numbers. At least in public schools anyway. Also, the educational system with such a huge emphasis on subjects most people will probably never need (i.e. Math, Science, History, etc.) is based on a late 1800's industrialist's mindset. Making kids utterly abhor ever trying to put any effort into actually learning said material, because they will forget it after being tested on it.

I don't need a locker because my teachers say when I need my book if there's a book in the class. Carrying a book sucks. Parking is first come first serve this year unless you want to pay 200 dollars.
