the fact that Twilight did not mention her BBBFF to her best friends until two seasons in, and it took 6 seasons to find out that Fluttershy has a brother means that I can absolutely believe that Sunburst would not have mentioned Sunset to Starlight at all. whether it be writing convenience or equestian cultural quirk

According to the comics(yes, I know they're of dubious canon), Sunset's parents never wrote to her, never tried to write to her before she leapt through the mirror portal. I don't see them as siblings, more as a first cousin, like(at least in my own headcanon) how Applejack and Braeburn are first cousins.

I can easily imagine that after Sunset's rebellion her parents might prefer to avoid talking about her, depending on how they took the news, but if she were Sunburst's older sister then I would expect him to be confused more than anything else and to talk to his closest friend since he couldn't talk to his parents.

I wonder how long Sunset Shimmer was away from Equestria and how old she was when she first became Celestia's student. In The Fall of Sunset Shimmer, Sunset seems to be the size of a teen or adult pony, but show canon overrides comic canon. Celestia doesn't mention Sunset's age, so it's possible that Sunset was still a filly when she started studying with the princess.
We know that Sunset has been in the human world slightly longer than Spike's age since he hatched on the day Twilight became Celestia's student. The MLP Wiki describes Spike as a "preteen" dragon. This could mean that he's any age younger than 13 or that he's 10 to 12 years old. I'm betting on the latter since Spike's molt seems like a dragon version of puberty.
Was Sunset still a filly when she ran away? How long did she live as a human? Who knows the answers? Certainly not me. ^_^;

Their cutie marks aren't very alike. But actually cutie marks of siblings don't need to look alike. Rarity and Sweetie Belle's cutie marks are completely different.

Now that I think about it, the concept of "The Last Problem" (going back to your hometown after tearfully leaving your friends) could've been a conclusion to both Sunset and EQG. Think about it:

In the EQG world, Sunset debates with her friends whether she should stay or go back to Equestria. Twilight, Starlight, and Spike convince her to go back because it's her true home and to see her family because "you shouldn't run away from her problems". Suddenly, both Equestria and the EQG world start to deteriorate because the mirror has been used so often it's damaging the fabric of time and space. Twilight warns that this is their last chance to use the mirror. They tearfully bid the Humane 6 farewell and go the portal before the mirror destroys itself, permanently sealing the path between 2 worlds. The special ends with Sunset going to Sire's Hollow and reconciling with Sunburst, her mother, and her father (if he's still alive) finally canonizing this theory

This has been on my mind since Sunburst was introduced on the show, I thought I was the only one who noticed this but apparently not. Though I would love it if they confirmed this theory because it could be made as a special episode along with some other theories that could be canon like you videos about the three villains being reformed (with Sombra), the truth about alicorns, what is the origins of the alicorn amulet, or the true origins of sombra (not the origins in the comics). And speaking of Sombra, they could make a special episode about the lost queen of the crystal empire because from the other theories I've heard she can be revived again if all the pieces of the crystal statue she was turned into was put back together again maybe it will shed some light on what Sombra's REAL intentions was.

If pony Sunset knew Celestia then shouldn’t human sunset know human Celestia. Human Sunset would’ve been a student at her school so I’m confused on why she didn’t recognize sunset and get confused. Since Sunset is older than the mane six, that means she should be the oldest in the hair seven, excluding pony sunset and with human sunset instead.

I’ve heard some crazy theories but this one sounds so accurate and so true that I would have to believe it. Also I would have loved to see sunset recognize starlight especially if their bond were to be stronger because of it.

This actually seems like a pretty good theory that seems quite solid as a potential for once. It would certainly be nice if everything tied up nice and neatly like that, but unless there is another equestria girls special that goes into Sunset's family, it's sadly a bit of a dead-end.

This has literally been my headcannon ever since Sunburst first appeared in 2015. In fact, I reasoned that an academically gifted, but magically weak unicorn like Sunburst could only get into the school for GIFTED unicorns on an influential recommendation. Like, say, from a close family member studying directly under the school's principle?

The problem is......sunset shimmer is shown much older than her so called “brother” sunburst who is the same age as starlight and starlight and sunset are shown to be around the same age

This is an intriguing theory, it certainly works well enough for a fan fiction, but it seems to have started because of the many similarities between Sunset and Sunburst. I would be more inclined to suspect that Sunburst was meant to be the cannon version of Sunset, leaving the original version for Equestria girls while bringing in an element of her via Sunburst. We don't know why he failed after all, who says he was bad at his studies as opposed to expelled for basically trying to take over Equestria, followed by a life of hiding out in the Crystal Empire and becoming humble, and less confident, in the process? He certainly comes through in a crunch, he's not that much of a failure. But a lot of the headcannon says "Oh, they look, act, etc. so much alike they must be related" should consider things like Twilight and Shining, or Fluttershy and Zephyr, both confirmed brothers and sisters in cannon, but they look and act very different than each other.

I actually consider this canon. Even though you had to ponder the questions long and hard to come to the realization of your case. Which I may agree with you about some things that I might find informative.

This is Exactly what I think about Sunset's Family, it would have been Perfect for a very emotional Equestria Girls special full of Character Development.
I also follow a theory that whatever Magic is used to make the Mirror Portal functional has a side-effect on the Aging Process for those who use it, when someone uses the portal, and takes on a different form on the other side, it causes one to stop Aging while in said different form, leaving them stuck looking exactly the same as when they first arrived in the other World, perhaps the biggest evidence to this theory is the Sirens/Dazzlings, they lived in the time of Starswirl the Bearded over 1000 Years ago, and even though they were banished to the Human World Centuries ago, they were still Alive today & still looked like Teenagers, and their Gemstones didn't look like it was their source of eternal life & youth or anything, otherwise they would have just aged to dust once their Gemstones were destroyed,
plus it was shown in Sunset Shimmer's origin story that Sunset was a teenager around the same time that Shining Armor & Cadence were still teenagers, meaning that she IS Older than Twilight, so if Sunset left for the Human World before Twilight became Celestia's new Star Student, the timing would be more perfect for Celestia to look for someone to take Sunset's place(as an potential Princess to inherit the rule of all Equestria), and if the Mirror Portal's magic actually Does effect the Aging Process, that would mean that Sunset has been looking like she's in her later-teens for at least a whole decade, which would mean she had plenty of time to get more used to this new world, set up a Fake Identity(Social Security, Birth Certificate, etc.), find a place to live, get a form of income(a job), and set it up so that she could attend CHS, before we got introduced to her in EQG 1,
and this may also explain why we never saw Sunset's Human Counterpart, even if she lives far away, and cause she's not under some Magical Time/Age Distortion, then she would be a fully grown woman in her Late 20's/Early 30's, living her own live completely unaware that there is someone else out there who looks like a younger version of herself, but imagine what it would be like if Human Sunset took a job as a Teacher(maybe Science or something) at CHS, and Pony Sunset was in her Class, now That would be something interesting to see!

I think it's likely they're siblings. They look similar and have similar cutie marks, color schemes, etc. I can imagine them having a less-than-friendly sibling rivalry while at Celestia's school. Sunset's disappearance would most likely be an unwelcome topic and I don't see Sunburst's mom as the type to willingly speak about her child's sudden disappearance. Sunburst and Sunset might have been distant from each other even before Celestia's school, and the age difference thing could also apply to them if Sunburst's parents never brought up his older sister. Just my theory, tell me what you think?

I feel like if this were true, Sunset left the family a long time ago before Sunburst was even born. Sunset was Celestia’s student before Twilight and left what seems like long before Twilight was born.So it would make sense why Sunburst or Starlight have never met or seen her before.

So I suppose it makes sense that Starlight and Sunset would initially not recognize each other, and that Starlight would have no prior knowledge of Sunset. But I find it hard to believe that Sunset would have no prior knowledge of Starlight .

I find it hard to believe that Sunset "rebelled" right away after she got sent to magic school. She would have been in communication with her folks for at least a year or two. She would have gotten letters mentioning Sunburst's friend, Starlight. She would have been old enough to have remembered reading these letters. (Maybe she skimmed them and chucked them into the trash, in a fit of rage.)

When Starlight first introduced herself in Mirror Magic, Sunset said, "Starlight Glimmer, you're Twilight's student," which implies that Sunset first learned of Starlight through letters from Princess Twilight.

If this fan theory were true, Sunset wouldn't have said that. She most likely would've said, "Starlight Glimmer, you're Sunburst's friend," or maybe ask in passing, "Do you know my younger brother, Sunburst?" By that point, Sunset was reformed, and had less bitter feelings towards her family, so she would have no problem with recognizing Sunburst as her younger brother.


Nonetheless, you always deliver very compelling fan theories and this is no exception.

If you wanna get really deep with a theory of why Sunset Shimmer's name never came up in conversation from Sunburst or the rest of his family, can't rule out S.M.I.L.E. getting involved and removing their memories of her. Maybe an act of shame and fear of others involvement of Celestia's mistake.

Another detail to add why sunset may not have recognized starlight was for when she had her memories taken by the memory stone. Sunset took the blast intended for her friends and the first name she called out was Princess celestia. Which could imply sunset didn't interact with too many ponies and wouldn't have known about starlight.

Personally, I think it's more likely that Sunset would be an ancestor of Sunburt's family, like a sibling to a direct relative. Specifically, I find the difference in time frames between worlds off putting. The Sirens were sent to the humanoid world during the time of Starswirl, and yet they are high-school age, Sunset has only recently taken over the school despite going there years ago in Equestria's time. Sunset may not be many generations past, but she definitely seems more likely to be from a time before Sunburst and Starlight.

Yes I always thought sunset and sunburst were related and honestly seeing the evidence puts me at ease about StarBurst ship being possibly canon.

I do have a couple hypotheses about Sunset Shimmer. The first one being that, she's actually the Sunset from the Equestria Girls realm, and she had accidentally stumbled into Equestria through the portal at a very young age, but when she did, right before she could make a return to her world, the portal closed, and she thought she had no way back. So, after being found in the castle by Celestia, she was taken under Celestia's tutalage, and taught much about the world of Equestria, but when she was denied to learn more about Equestria and magic, she took matters into her own hooves/hands, and learned knowledge she was not supposed to yet, and came to learn of the mirror's ability to become a gateway, learning she could go back, and after feeling betrayed by Celestia, made a dash through the portal, plotting a return for vengeance.

The other hypothesis I have is that Sunset Shimmer was actually a ward of Celestia's. A few reasons I say this I will explain. During the choose your own ending short for "Wake Up Sunset" right at the beginning Sunset says "Five more minutes Princess Celestia. I don't want to go to magic school." Now, you may think at first, this was the scene of many students at Celestia's school. But then, when you think about it, there are some other things to take into account. One thing is other episodes like "Twilight Seven" showed that Twilight did not stay at the school overnight while learning under Celestia. But some can argue that maybe few did stay at the castle, due to having come from other places outside of Canterlot. That is fair, but many places seem to be easily reachable in a few hours train ride at most, not counting Appaloosa, so that argument is debatable. Another thing to consider is that Celestia herself is a "princess". She has castle staff, like maids, butlers, as well as royal guards that could easily have been the ones to awaken Sunset and other students to get them ready for the day. But Celestia has gone out of her way to awaken Sunset Shimmer herself. That seems to indicate that there was a special bond Celestia and Sunset Shimmer once shared before Sunset rebelled against her teacher. Now, I'm not saying that Sunset Shimmer is Celestia's daughter, otherwise, I feel she'd be calling her mother. But, there may have been the off chance that Sunset was a ward to Princess Celestia. She was not claimed as Celestia's daughter, but she was taken under her wing. I know this sounds a tad dark to think about, but the fact that there was no comic or flashback Sunset's parents going ballistic that their daughter just up and ran away to another realm, does open that door for debate. And there was the scene in the special "Forgotten Friendship" where, when Sunset got her mind wiped by Wallflower, she was calling out for Princess Celestia. Not her family.

This is all hypothesis mind you, so I can't say it's set in stone that this was the case for Sunset's origins that led to her going to the Equestria Girls realm. But what do you think of my hypotheses?

Impressive theory. For the pass few months id assumed sunset and sunburts were siblings till ive seen this. I can only imagine how the series and story line couldve been like if this was considered to be true if luarn decided to not end the series so soon

there’s one thing i haven’t seen anyone discuss yet— sunset shimmer came from equestria, and went INTO the human universe. If twilight and the others have alternate universe versions of themselves, where’s sunset’s? To my knowledge, we haven’t seen or heard anything about her.

The idea that similar coat colors is a valid basis for familial relationships is ridiculous.
Purple Twilight and white Shining Armor.
White Celestia and dark blue Luna.
Green Granny Smith and red Big Mac and orange Applejack and yellow Applebloom.

The Sunset and Sunburst being siblings theory is a very interesting one. And you have some valid and plausible points too Sawtooth. But you can also have a theory of Sunset and Sunburst being cousins. So Sunburst mum and one of Sunset's parents, for example Sunset's mother, is the big sister of Sunburst mother. Both mothers know that their children are talented unicorns. To see which one of the fillies was the most talented, both sisters pushed their kids in Celestia's school of magic. Unfortunately both of the Sun family kids were drop outs. One, although very talented, her attitude was quite bad and therefore she was expelled from Celestia's school. The other had the better mentality/personality but wasn't that talented as his niece. So both Sun Family kids went into oblivion. Till their situation was revived in the Equestria Girls series (Sunset Shimmer) and the Sunburst stories within FiM. Unfortunately we will never know the real/official outcome, but it would have been a total blast to have a series where Sunset Shimmer and Sunburst are forced to work together and combine their magical talents against a very strong magical Equestrian villain.

Maybe to a video on "Pinkies Pie's Brother" she actually mentioned she had one in an episode of pony life. (It's probably not cannon but still interesting)

i feel like there just needs to be a little more evidence for it to be canon. but for now it feels like it’s a very good theory. hopefully someone looks to see at tiny parts from sunset shimmer, starburst, and the mother have stuff of them. maybe it could be in the background of somewhere.

Problem is that we don't have a timeline. There's evidence that starlight is older than sunset and vice versa or the same age. We also don't know when they were accepted into magics. We can't do firm or deny. If hasbro released confirmed ages, we would know if this is debunked or actually happened. Its such a cluster of things we can't figure out. Sunset left the academy before twilight but we know how young twilight was when she joined right? (We don't know the age but she's younger than the CMC) the thing is is that twilight and sunset are in the same grade in our world and it's highschool not college so we know they are the same grade. So we have no idea in age ranges. That's just one example

i say there's not enough to say yes. and starlight and sunsets interactions sealed it for me, you may not remember a lot about the friends your little sibling had, but their name would be an "oh yea" (starlight may have a reason to not remember, sunset wouldn't). if they were related i think celestia would also have mentioned it after first dealing with sunset in EG, then with sunburst in the crystalling, then again with sunset in forgotten friendship. or sunset would have brought up her family when they were relatively relaxed in equestria in Spring Breakdown. or just in general after mirror magic when i think sunset and starlight would have kept in touch, where starlight would have talked about her best friend sunset at some point.
don't get me wrong i really like the results this theory would bring, but i don't think there's enough to support it, even if it may have been an idea toyed with.

As usual Sawtooth i agree with your theories and i know a lot of people have theorized that Sunburst might be Sunset Shimmer's brother, but since that was never officially confirmed and what not the chances of it being true are like 1 in a gazillion...at least that's how i see it.

The only thing that could condradict your theory truly would be weather you consider the comics canon or not to the show. Mainly because in a Christmas special EQG comic sunset mentioned she had a sore relationship with her parents and , (not sure if I remember correctly again) she said they never celebrated Christmas and I doubt Sunburst's family was like that. This might hint at why she subconsciously took Celestia as a mother figure and model, more than anyone else, hence why she was mostly worried about her and apologised to her without thinking much about her real family when she returned. This might also make her actions in the beginning much more understandable since she might've been a child without parental affection or guidance in the early days, before joining Celestia's school . But that shouldn't cut entirely the ideea of Sunset and Sunburst being at least related. But I might be wrong. Regarldess it's something worth checking out but I don't remember the name of the comic.

i've always wondered this, but wouldn't sunset have to have a human counter-part already existing in the human realm? she was a student in celestia's school which implied that she was born in equestria, so to this logic she should have a version of herself already existing, shouldn't she? if so, where is she?

The biggest argument against this is that Sunset never tries to see her family again. Even after the mirror is fixed, she sees Celestia, albeit reluctantly, but she never even attempts to see her parents or relatives. That indicates to me that she was an orphan.

I would have liked if there had been one scene, where she reminisced about a camping trip with her father before he died in a war or something similar. Somethign to settle these answers

this is a theory about how magic works in human world:
The humane 7 when they tranform they're not taking the magic of frienship but instead they're are making connection with the spirits of the pony counterparts ,kind of like the bond between Atem and Yugi were in the original YugiOh , but not exactly when they played music the instruments it worked like the mellenium puzzle ,except twilight and Sunset they were directly attached to the elements of harmony,after the battle of the bands they were overwhelmed by magic so now all of them were directly attached to elements which it was very hard to control, it's the reason that in friendship games and legend of everfree the pony-ups became more random that's why after they recieved the crystals they were in control of their power(except that one short but they found a solution) and the powers that they've got are just a little piece of the true power,like Deku from My hero academia is only using 8% of one for all because his body is not ready,maybe Sunset recommended to not use them at 100% so the random pony ups will not happen ever again.And Swi-twi is connecting with the magic of princess twilight because she is still very new to the magic of friendship so she needs a little guidance in a battle that's why the pony twilight knew about sci-twi

A lot of people seem to theorize that they are cousins. And Sunset being Sunburst's cousin could also explain some things. Like, what if she was the daughter of Stellar Flare's sibling, who became so full of guilt and grief at Sunset's disappearance that Stellar decided to be there for her own child no matter what so she doesn't end up losing her son and feeling that same pain of her sibling

Thats a pretty nice theory, although wouldnt't we have already heard about Sunset shimmer's family by now? unless she just didn't want to share or never felt the need to, but idk... they could still be related not necessarily as sibilings, but maybe cousins? or perhaps even half-sibilings, idk just a thought

In the past I had the same theory, but Sunset was Starlight's sister... basically for the same reasons: the age: Sunset is some years older than Starlight and left home before Starlight could remember, and Starlight's father's reaction... like he treated Starlight like a kid for her to be safe... but mabey he didn't want her to go on a wrong path (we still don't know if he knows about the village) like Sunset.

But seeing your theory I remembered the 2's first encounter and you think Sunset would've recognized her.
Also I never thought about how well Sunset fits in the Sun family.

The way how you mention Sunburst's mom feeling a sense of guilt inside of her when Sunset vanished felt really deeply real to me. So much so that this should have been canon

Clans of ponies theory, think about it since technically the Apple Family technically includes the Pear’s, and other fruits would there be other clans referring as to either a theme or based on appearances, think about the possibility of a Gothic group of ponies or to tie a loose end of the theory that Sunset and Sunburst are siblings, moreover I believe they could still be slightly related under the Sun or Solar clan. There’s so many other possible clans that could exist to tie in some of the characters together.
Please think about your responses before telling me that’s not likely but seriously think deep and not criticize the theory beforehand.

I have another theory related to yours. I do like to believe that they are siblings, but instead, are twins. I like to think that they had a "Parent Trap" scenario with them. Remember that Sunburst only has a mom? Maybe Sunset and Sunburst were twins separated at birth. Sunset went with her dad, while Sunburst stayed with his mom. And coincidentally, they ended up in the same school.

Also, was it ever confirmed by the show that "Sunspot" was Sunburst's dad?

Major problem you're working off of the assumption that EQG is part of the same canon universe as FiM. Just because events in FiM are canon to EQG, the other way around is not true

That is a good theory however that’s not the case as far as appearances goes. Celestia and Luna looks completely different, but they are related. The same goes with Twilight and Shining Armor.

It's a nice theory, but has one major flaw. In the movie Forgotten Friendship, when Wallflower erased Sunset Shimmer's memories, she did not scream for Sunburst. As a sister, one of the first people I would scream for is my brother. Sunset doesn't even scream for her parents. She screams for Celestia. Also, we've seen the inside of Sunbursts house, yet there is nothing to remember Sunset by. So no, while I like the theory, I don't believe Sunset Shimmer is related to Sunburst

I think she is. She looks more like her dad, Sunset has that yellow stripe in her hair, and it almost looks identical to Solar Wind’s skin tone. She also has some red in her hair.

Sorry, but this was debunked. We saw how much of a loving, dotting parent Sunburst's mother was. The writers revealed that Sunset's parent's were very neglectful of her and only saw her as a way to promote themselves when she became Celestia's student (this warped way of being raised likely contributed to her going bad). In the EQG comic, Sunset herself says that she was never close to her parents.

If a season 10 ever happens, we could see more about family trees.

I’ve always found it strange that characters that have never even met look more related than characters that are. Like Misty Fly, Dr. Fauna, a character that according to wikia is called Amethyst Gleam, and Coco Pommel— or Sweetie Drops and Blueberry Swirls (green sweater mare), or even Oaknut and Butternut from The Best Gift Ever (who look more related to one another than what they do to their son), Cheese Sandwich, and Grand Pear, or Flim & Flam, Strawberry Sunrise, and Apple Bloom & Bright Mac (they are some of the few that look and are related, but of course Pear Butter’s colour scheme messes up with how Big Mac and AJ have their colour schemes).

As much as I love this—the story line mostly—but because it’s MLP, the “similar colour schemes” point can’t really be taken into consideration without every other character that has similar, if not identical, colour schemes. It really makes you wonder how Flim and Flam have apple cutie marks…

Makes a lot of sense if you think about it also what it could have happened is the fact that maybe the parents divorced and one was raised in one part of the country and one was raising another and so that's probably why they don't talk to each other

I think sunset is Sunburst's elder sister, but Sunset is 18 in Equestria Girls 10. If this is the case, then Princess Twilight and Starlight are 16. So is Sunburst. The fact Sunset is studious and smart, that makes her similar to her brother. And well... if she was Sunburst's sister, she'd probably be 2-3 years older than him

Plus, we when meet the sibling characters? We never get any mention on them. So while I definitely think they're siblings, I can understand not bringing it up. For good or bad reasons

If Sunset was THAT small when she left to join Celestia's school Sunburst would have joined the school before she rebelled. Cause she rebelled when she was about Twilight's age. So she was at the school for quite some time between being like Applebloom size and Twilight size. Meaning that Sunburst had time to grow from baby to little foal. Therefore he would have joined the school whole she was still there.

I love this theory, and yes I do think that they’re brother and sister. They’re both hotheads lol.

I am kind of against and with this because of a few family’s in the mane six and beyond. Twillight Sparkle’s brother, Shining Armour, is related to Twillight even though they look nothing alike, same with AppleJack and her sister, AppleBloom, and her brother, BigMac.

But this doesn’t really go with how Rarity and her sister, SweetyBell, would be related, they look almost alike, with the only differences in their mains. The same would probably go for FlurryHeart, who has almost the same main as her mother, Princess Cadence and the skin as her father, Shining Armour.

Coming to think of it, Twillight Sparkle looks nothing like her parents either. Granny Smith would have gave birth to AppleJack’s mother or father but I don’t see how AppleJack, BigMac or AppleBloom would have the same blood as Granny Smith as they don’t have any signs of being related.

My theory on this topic is that some Unicorns/Pegasus/Earth Ponies/Alicorns can’t give birth to offspring so they get an alternative by adopting the next generation and raise them without them knowing that they were not related by blood.

Evidence is there to support this from Shining Armour’s family tree along with Twillight Sparkle and the siblings parents. So it starts off with Twillight Sparkle and Shining Armour’s parents giving birth to them. The mother has light grey skin, a purple and white main, blue eyes and the CutieMark of three purple stars. The father has blue skin, a darker blue main, yellow eyes and the CutieMark of a small white moon beside a larger yellow moon. The two parents are unicorns and they ‘gave birth’ to ‘two’ unicorns which has no surprise there as Twillight only EARNED her wings to become an alicorn. What makes this take a turn is their physical appearances and CutieMarks, Twillight has purple skin but didn’t physically inherit this from her parents, she also has a dark purple, violet and pink main. Twillight also has purple eyes which could not be inherited from her parents as neither have purple eyes or can be mixed to form purple eyes. Maybe Shining Amour could have as he has white skin, blue eyes and a main that could be from his father, but for Twillight, she cannot b related to Shining Amour or her parents.

What I am saying is that what if SunsetShimmer and SunBurst were related, but not as siblings, as cousins? Sunburst got his skin colour and colour of his hooves from his mother and that mark on his face from his father. His eye colour may have been mixed (his father’s eye colour is purple and his mother’s eye colour is lime or green?, when they are both mixed, they may form a teal which is Sunburst’s eye colour). His main could also be mixed (his father’s main is orange and his mother’s main is reddish-orange, both mixed would form the colour of Sunburst’s main). When we look at Sunset Shimmer, we can see a few errors like the yellow highlights and bright red main and green eyes. It can be coincidental that they have the same skin colour and topic of their CutieMarks.

Now if we say that I’m wrong and that Sunset is related to Sunburst, we can support that from the skin colour being similar and the topic of their CutieMark being the same.

But I support that SunBurst and SunsetShimmer are related but are not siblings, they may be cousins.

on earth there is a well known theory of Six degress of separation. This might apply to ponies and why Sunset is close in features. I mean look at the mane 6 out of them in the cannon story Applejack and Pinkie are likely related. But as a little help to your Theory Starlight did not have a her cutie Mark till some time after Sunburst. So Sunset might not know her by name as she a older sibling. I do not remember my brothers friends names and I am younger. So there still a good point to this. other then we will never know. :)
