@DragoFX_ RTX is fully legit and greatly optimizes BVH traversal. It can result in a 7-8x improvement on raytraced and pathtraced draw times. There's nothing 'diluted' about it, or other nonsense. Every video card should get raytracing hardware to accelerate RT visuals or be stuck in the past.
@DragoFX_ RTX cards can be used to run 100% raytraced games, but its not very efficient yet. We need like 3 more generations before 100% raytraced games are feasible. In the mean time, partially raytraced games can suffice.
@FedoraGFX I mean there's the Quake 2 fully raytraced version accelerated via DXR. It is done today. But getting the sort of fidelity you really want out of full scene path tracing with very detailed models is going to take a while.
@FedoraGFX yeah it's exactly this, a step for the future, the only reason to buy rtx is because it perform better than gtx for lower pricing which is why I am getting it
@DiamondGB 'nothing 'diluted' ' looks at the abismal ammount of rtx cores they have, the ten or so AAA games that support it, hows the feature is just strapped onto dx12 (just lighting 9/10 times too) and the huge performance hit ya get. No its not diluted at all...
actually its not that ironic, since the game has a pretty basic 3d structure with not much details, therefore its way easier to develop ray tracing for it, unlike for some bigger title that has way more details and objects
Victor Isaev the only things that minecraft makes easier are geometry and textures, everything else is sampled as complex as it would in any other game. But as far as I know rasterization engines don't look back on geometry or texture complexity, so it comes only to path-tracing alone
this is a modder's version, minecraft doesn't have this by itself, it only has it with this mod. that's like saying minecraft has guns, when you just mean it has guns with mods.
@DragoFX_ rtx isn't marketing it's a physical thing you do realise, it's been used in proffesional industry cards like quadros or Tesla cards for years now
@FedoraGFX sure or you could just use vega or a 1080 to do it and when its writen well and is making good use of the HW thats available it doesnt run that bad and tensor only works because of how few bounces they use and how low the accuracy is
All people talking shit here without having a clue. Path-tracing is a more advanced rendering technique, derived from classic ray-tracing. All "ray-tracing" rendering engines used in the industry (Arnold, Octane, Cycles, etc) are actually path-tracing engines. Path-tracing is a lot more hardware intensive and a lot more realistic because it calculates the direction of the light bounces taking into account the objects' material properties. This IS path-tracing, and so it IS also ray-tracing. RTX cards performance (1080Ti vs 2080) wouldn't make much of a difference because the path tracing here is not implemented on Nvidia's Optix library, which is needed to take advantage of RT cores, it's just a pure OpenGL implementation, and even worse as Seus has said that what Optifine exposes is difficult to work with and is a limiting factor. There are other "ray-tracing" techniques, such as ray-marching. Seus created a LPVGI shader which is voxel based and has increased performance, though the lighting resolution is smaller. If anyone want's to try the shaders, you can go here: https://www.patreon.com/sonicether and pledge a minimum of 10$, which would give you access to all of his posts, and there you can download every experimental version.
@The True Inferno , Wait, are you whining that there are too FEW RT cores in Turing? You do realize that each SM has an RT core. Therefore the ability to generate rays is proportional to the number of SM's. Even if you could easily increase just the ray-tracing hardware part (which includes the Tensor cores) you'd then be allocating even more die space to a feature few games support which further increases the cost. I'm not sure you thought this through. You can't just jump to full frame, real-time ray tracing in hardware. You add SOME support which developers can utilize for shadows or other things as they see fit as an addition to the regular rasterization methods.
Looks at majority of RTX lineup Hmmm yes because most of these cards give 'reasonable' framerates with RTX enabled, its almost like it was a gimmick at launch!
@niso I think you're confused about how ray tracing works, ray tracing is bouncing individual rays of light, it can be done on pretty much any hardware. For example, here's a web demo: https://media.tojicode.com/raytrace/ [fyi raytraced lighting is still ray tracing lol]
@insrt , RTX isn't built solely for ray tracing as there's DLSS and other upcoming features including audio path tracing, but yes that was a main focus for the architecture. you can also do ray tracing on any CPU or GPU provided the software supports it. It's all just math. RTX cards are currently the most efficient hardware for desktop PC gaming to do ray tracing.
@Jeffrey PhotonboyI think I just worded it a bit badly, I just meant it's the main focus of the card as you said as well. I appreciate the extra information though.
william smith not mine it really depends on the cooking used, and if it’s clean.I have a EVGA 1070ti FTW I use it for VR and it never goes above 70c on full load with a heavy OC I tried Minecraft and my fans don’t even spin with Zeus Ultra no OC, whole pc is air cooled btw
@fortniteaccount 194 Graphics cards weren't in the start made for gaming, there are cards that are made for mining. Same for gaming or what ever you do
fortniteaccount 194 you’re mistaking heat and temperature. Even though your 1070 has good fans on it, it’s still producing 500 watts of heat when it's under full load because it's a 500 watt card. The temperature of the card doesn't get too much higher, but that's because the heat dissipates into the room. Hence all computers are space heaters that happen to do calculations
@fortniteaccount 194 First of all, that was a joke. No need to get so mad about it. But you completely missed the point, I didn't say graphics cards were made for mining, that's ridiculous and chronologically impossible. I was saying cryptos were invented to turn hardware into personal space heaters :V
Just gonna put this out here, minecraft is mainly a CPU based game, yes it utilises both but alot of the time it runs mainly off of your CPU, yes, your pc would be still a space heater, would be the same on pretty much any game with ultrahigh settings but still, all u lot complaining about GPU's when MC is mainly ran from your CPU.
fortniteaccount 194 well you certainly did reply to someone that it was CPU INTENSIVE and that it could be run on shitty cpus but that’s not what you were originally debating
fortniteaccount 194 as for your your cooler that made me laugh. Maybe the reason you get 70 degrees max is because you’re playing fortnite. On a long session i struggle to break 60 degrees💁♂️ just saying kid.
@Dylan Harding The only thing handled by the gpu there is the actual shading & ray tracing, the rest is CPU based, thats java for ya, mainly cpu based, still doesnt change the fact that every1 is being pissy about gfx cards
@Dylan Harding Still mainly CPU based, Shaders & Ray Tracing, mainly when it comes to texture smoothing & stuff like that is on the GFX card, the rest is on the CPU, java has decent optimisations on cpu but could be better.
Alexander M 500 watt card you obviously no nothing about pc’s in GENERAL! I even play rec room on the beautiful preset and my gpu is only at 55c constantly!!And to add to the fact that your wrong my psu is 550watt EVGA Gold certified and my Cpu tams more than 50 watts for a fucking fact
Captain Hologram the thing about all of these fancy shaders is that it’s not true ray tracing, it’s path tracing witch might as well be the same thing but in the end Minecraft lack all support for rtx ray tracing whatsoever.
Actually this doesn't seem to look dynamical, though. I assume all this stuff was precalculated and baked into textures. Convince me i'm wrong by walking the same scene with the light source, a torch for example.
lil_ king what do you even mean? Lots of people seem to think that path tracing in Minecraft shaders is raytracing, I just wanted to clear up confusion. I get the joke, it’s just that path tracing can raytracing are not the same thing because that would make rtx cards worthless.
@CanadianBluePants Where are you getting your figures from? There are no RTX Cards besides the titan that are over $1000. The Rtx 2060 is going for about $349 right now which happens to be $60 more than the 1 tier lower GTX 1660 ti and would be plenty powerful enough to run ray tracing in minecraft, if it was supported lol.
@CanadianBluePants Where you live doesn't matter. The price difference will be the same. You will be paying 20-30% more for the next tier up. Not assuming anything just stating that theres not a $1000 price gap between what Gtx cards and rtx cards can do.
@kennedy moreiras I quote: "I think you're confused about how ray tracing works, ray tracing is bouncing individual rays of light, it can be done on pretty much any hardware. For example, here's a web demo: https://media.tojicode.com/raytrace/ [fyi raytraced lighting is still ray tracing lol]"
AMusic海の精神 I don’t mean that, I just mean like real time ray tracing in games like what rtx cards do is not possible for non ray tracing gpus, as in only rtx cards can ray trace real time in games, but Minecraft lacks support for any ray tracing.
AMusic海の精神 this wouldn’t be raytracing, Minecraft doesn’t support that or at least not yet. It is all path tracing, or at least the Nvidia standard of rtx ray tracing.
Henry Nguyen oh rip, the 70 series is solid quality and even if the 900 series didn’t age as well it still performs thesame as a modern 1050ti, so not obsolete or bad by any means.
@kennedy moreiras i completely agree, the 970 has always worked for me very well, i was making a joke about how the 970m has slightly lower specs. Infact for vr it recommends a minimum 970, and the 970m didnt cut it (still worked XD)
Oh boy. Lots of misinformation here. 1) path tracing is a form of ray tracing, specifically Monte Carlo ray tracing. 2) Having RTX cores just means you have specialized hardware for ray-triangle intersection and can therefore utilize the DXR API to trace rays. 3) cards that don't have RTX cores can still be used to do ray tracing, it'll just be a lot slower.
@kennedy moreiras ALL GRAPHICS CARD CAN RAY TRACE... But you will need to wait a few hours until the frame finishes rendering... RTX cards are made for Ray Tracing because they have Tensor cores it has thr hardware to boost the performance of the game... You can do Ray tracing on GTX 1060 6GB and above it was approved by nvidia so yea.. Just... ALL gpus can do ray tracing it's just not in real time... let's say there is a RTX 2080 without RT cores/Tensor cores... You would loose so much perfomance because of that.. That is why they have those cores so the fps would be higher simple xd
KajMak64Bit yeah, Nvidia releases drivers to allow all gtx cards above 1060 I think to ray trace. Of course the only gtx card that can raytrace worth a damn is the gtx 1080 ti, while the 1060 and 1070 get solid 10 fps.
@kennedy moreiras wrong. With the latest driver that just released, the Ray tracing api was just released to gtx cards. I tested BF5 with DXR on my 1070 and it worked fine at a just playable rate.
@kennedy moreiras nah man you can only path trace on a map because you need the hardware support from the paper, you must be thinking about Ray marching.
A Brit & Whovian most cards can’t ray trace at the level of the rtx cards, you have to set the settings to medium to get playable frame rates while raytracing. If your 1070 was out through the raytracing that rtx cards are supposed to go through it would not be playable, even a 1080ti at ultra raytracing can only pull 30-40 FPS.
@Darksynth781 E , RTX cards have Tensor and RT cores and thus can do Ray (and Path) tracing more efficiently. All CPU's and GPU's can do ray tracing given software support as it's just MATH in the end. What matters is how efficiently you can do it.
RTX cards are NOT a gimmick. That doesn't mean they are necessarily a good value now or in the near future though but value is subjective to the user. Also, anything optimized for ray and pathtracing can also be utilized for other tasks including advanced AUDIO path finding to simulate the real world so a game engine could for example bounced a limited number of "rays" of sound from say your feet off walls, through a window, into another room for an enemy to detect rather than the current very simple cone radiating out from a player in 2D.
Path tracing appears to be far less efficient but more realistic so in terms of just realism it is PT, RT, Rasterization in order of most to least. Since this is hardly my area of expertise here's a link: https://www.dusterwald.com/2016/07/path-tracing-vs-ray-tracing/
Finally, RTRT (real time ray tracing) is just starting and is definitely not going away. The 2020 consoles will support RTRT which should really push adoption in the PC space through cross-platform games especially if there's minimal effort to support RTX, NAVI and other GPU's in addition to the console NAVI GPU's. It will get more efficient. More optimized. I fully expect TES6 (Skyrim successor) to utilize a combination of Photogrammetry, rasterization as per normal, and RTRT optional additions.
Minecraft style games are also less demanding to start than many games and therefore can achieve RTRT while also maintaining a high FPS and resolution at high quality settings.
For RTRT to really shine though, you need to focus on things that are hard to do with regular rasterization hacks. Finally, RTRT is actually theoretically much easier to program for because you don't have to do pre-baking and changing lights doesn't require you to redo all that etc. That works well for a console that supports if you have the game coming out for the PC world you'll need to do all that work anyway then offer RTRT as an option. So adoption of RTRT is going to depend a lot on both resource usage of the system hardware and how much hassle it is to implement though obviously it will get much easier over time, especially as game engines like UE4 and Unity start adding in code to automate this.
(by "minimal effort" I meant if it doesn't take much extra effort to make RTRT in a game coded for the PS5 also support newer desktop GPU's. Poor wording.)
It is not a triple A game. It is based on the money and production team scale when it was being made it was a indie game later having a triple a budget.
TryHard it’s still considered a indie game because when it was developed by mojang first and was a indie game it doesn’t matter if Microsoft bought it because they didn’t create it as a Triple A studio but a indie studio did
Usually, the terms "triple-A title" usually refer to game which had a very large initial production cost. But the terms kind of get used for many things now, so its really arguable whether Minecraft is triple-A...
Looks amazing! The contrast between the very simple models/textures and the raytraced graphics make for a really interesting combination. Gives me inspiration for my own projects =D
Not "better graphics" just more realistic reflections. It's a big difference. Adding path or ray-tracing to a Minecraft game doesn't make it more "realistic" than a game like Battlefield. It's apples and oranges.
@Jeffrey Photonboy still have better graphics or some ray tracing shits than other ultra far cry bf 5 or some sort of games that have ultra realistic graphics..
Whether we're ''far enough'' for good raytracing without sacrificing performance and making games unplayable is up for discussion, but this might very well be the next big step in gaming graphics.
Just imagine how immersive this could be in VR. This would be really future tech, but just imagine 144/240hz 4K* VR with this. *I really should say 8K or more
OrangeC7 2 titan rtx cards and a super expensive headset later with the e4 version of the shader so its compatible with forge so You can install vive craft or other and it could hapen
In VR one of the major disadvantages of Rasterized rendering (the way its usually done), if i'm not mistaken, is that the frame can only be displayed when it is finished rendering, which means it has to be dropped if it isn't delivered in time. While in Ray-Tracing and other similar rendering methods there is no "finished" per se, it can be delivered when the frame is needed.
@John Theux huh good luck trying to render 33 billion pixels at even 5 or 10 fps for comparison 1080p renders at around more than 2 million pixels

+Vlad With DLSS on you can play at 4k@80 fps so 8k@20 fps with a single 2080ti so if there is 2x scaling (which is probably not) you can hope to play at 8k@40fps with 2 cards
@John Theux Depending on what you are looking at maybe however 8k40fps won't be easy

@Chandler JC But star citizen used procedural maps that are gigantic. I really wonder how hard it is to bake the lightning for such huge maps with dynamic light. Raytracing seems to be an huge improvement.
@John Theux oh yea im sure they will implement it, but 8k40fps with ray tracing on won't be possible for another couple years id say at least, especially star citizen.
@Chandler JC Another thing will be 3d. With one image for each eye that will be even harder. (i hope they will start to build 3d screens again but there is also vr like the pimax 8kx with native 4k for each eye)
8192x4608 = 37748736
1920x1080 = 2073600 8k needs 18.2 times the time or calculating speed of full HD to render a single frame on the same hardware. That means, if your hardware would get you 145 frames per second in full HD, it would only give you an average of 8 fps in 8k. Of course the computational power needed to perform techniques like anti-aliasing is exponentially higher with that mass of data since all of it has to be recalculated, I'd guess it would be stuck at 1-3fps. With 2 RTX 2080ti you may be able to get like 20fps + - depending on the game and if you turn off anti-aliasing.
@FotoschoPro , FPS is not directly proportional to the pixel count, especially going forward. Lots of things including anti-aliasing are less demanding proportionately (you wouldn't even do AA at 8K) as the resolution increases. A lot of games currently are closer to 40% the FPS at 1080p vs 4K though you'd expect 25% if it was linear and that's at the SAME exact settings using some AA but again you'd realistically increase the AA for 1080p more than 4K so 4K in that respect is about 2x more demanding not 4x.
We have come a long way from its roots, from building random skyscrapers, to the most advance bunker, to the most advance graphical capabilities. Like Notch said,"This adventure is up to you"
I've encountered 4 bugs thus far: quick movement of look direction will sometimes cause light borders, like the brightness has been upped, reflections of lapis lazuli is green for some reason on iron and diamond blocks, artifacting with reflections on died glass can occur, reflections fail to work on submerged blocks (iron underwater, for example) but its so damn good just fix the last straggling bugs and its perfect
There is some ray-tracing in addition to path tracing according to his page (Sonic Ether) though it's very confusing because in one part he just says path-tracing and in another part talks about ray tracing reflections. I can't see it being both so I'm going to assume it's just path tracing.
3 months ago, this channel uploaded the first Minecraft ray tracing, and since he’s been working hard on improve it. - he did set up a patreon where currently 62 people donate money month, a total of 501$ each month. If you become a patreon supporter of this guy, he might be able to live off it to improve the game for ous all. Please go to this channel bio, and support him on patreon with donation and make this he’s full time job! Minecraft 2.0 let’s go!
Could you link your custom texture pack or something very similar? I have the shader, but the pack you are using really makes it shine. Ex: reflective black marble floor and reflective gold blocks
Fun fact: Crytek has proven that ray tracing can be used through an AMD graphics card, making the rtx lineup useless. And since that discovery, Nvidia will be providing ray tracing to some 10 series gpus
Ok, so... When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought someone had put a bunch of Tripwire hook replicas on a wall in real life. Then I realised it was in the game, and it was just a shaders mode. Amazing.
@Dylan Harding if you look back at your original correction pokemon addict was just talking about how you need a gpu to run these shaders when you generalised it to "computer" for no apparent reason. Seems like you missed the entire point he was attempting to convey
what about player reflections and shadows? was the player ignored by rays? furthermore how are shadows done due to the softness of them? (ps. not hating this is still freaking awesome, i'm just curious)
Well ray tracing just IS realistic by rule, because it really casts rays out off light sources ans/or camera and bounces them around feew times to simulate realistically how light bounces around until it falls into our eyes in real life.
it almost looks better than the quake 2 raytracing. But, speaking of which, can't you ise the free voxels to create an estimate trace, then do a second trace that is more refined, making it faster and lighter?
infinite bounces seems overdone. even professional rendering software like blender or cinema 4D limit the amount of bounces to 1024 or sometimes even lower. 64-128 bounces per ray should be more than enough for these purposes. also, wouldn't it take an infinite amount of time to render 1 pixel since a ray can keep bouncing around forever?
I hope the environment is alive (e.g; leaves and grass swaying, birds flying at a distance, leaves falling from trees, lens flare, water waves, etc.) because it would be a a bummer for the whole thing.
I was able to get this to run on my i7 6700k, gtx 1070 with 16gb of ddr4 ram at a solid 30 fps with a render distance of 12 in a newly generated default world. I do have high level cooling but all the components are at their default clock speeds
just a couple questions if you dont mind: ram speed / timings SSD/HDD/Hybrid (RAID/non-RAID) ramcache? custom java arguments (if using java edition)? dedicated java mem allocation (and avg usage before garbage collection occures)
@Lakitu64 have you checked the debug to see how much ram is used before it dumps? im curious how much ram gets filled how quickly, and what your resource usage is (like say in task manager)
You say in the description that you get 50 - 70 fps on "normal settings" but I'm getting way worse on my 1050 Ti and Core i7 6700 on what I consider optimized. What settings so you think I should change?
You should release it even though it’s just a demo. People like to see that. I walked over to turned it on and just search the web for like 20 or 30 minutes looking for this. I stop playing game because it got old. I made it fun again by modeling but that got old to seeming as I’ve played over 500+ mods and created my own mod packs . Next video you should release the link even if it is just a demo because this sparked an interest in even me and made me actually want to play the game again
No one notices it’s not ray tracing... It’s path tracing and is completely different tech. Hence why it works with GTX and RTX doesn’t benefit at all with the RTX cores.
For the people that are thinking “Omg this is not real ray tracing because u would need an RTX card blabla” Yeeaah..no. This is Path tracing (title is wrong), which is superior to ray tracing because it is: - faster - more realistic (yes, really, look it up adoredTV has a great video on it) - did i mention faster? Which is why this is able to run on a GTX970
Pathtracing is not faster. Pathtracing is global illumination, reflection, translucency, shadows, caustics etc., while raytracing marketed nowadays takes only one of mentioned to be able to run. It's probably so fast in minecraft because it uses voxel data to store objects, low poly count, only 1-2 bounces, low res lookup, denoising. You've got no clue what path tracing is my man.
You don't think these people actually bothered to read the description do you? They probably didn't even watch the video; they just saw the thumbnail and jumped straight into the comments to make "jokes". 🙄
all RTX does is render things that you dont see to improve "reflections and effects"for better immersion. Minecraft doesnt really have to hefty of reflections to begin with
I was like "oh shit, this man's rig is gonna be fucking nuts", which quickly turned into "oh my rig is actually of higher specs, guess I'm installing mine craft" very quickly
@Choadis Maximus Hey dude i just watched another video about this and i read comments saying it doesn't work on AMD cards lol so your vega 64 useless for this lol
@L that's interesting, as I know for certain amd cards are capable of ray tracing, have been for longer than Nvidia cards. I'll try it for myself when I have the time
@Choadis Maximus but this is not real ray tracing this is path Tracing a guy said this shader is taking advantage of an ancient open gl thing that amd doesn't have
Looks good for beauty renders, but it'll be terrible for my framerates. I mean there's a reason why it's meant for Javascript and not for realism like unreal.
@Zikavirus following new memes will just end up dying faster. So using more memes regardless of the time it was created will have less memes being overused in a short time.
@Caveman Toe Let's not forget Mr. "white history month", or perhaps Mr. "straight pride month", or Mr. "I'd rather be a facist than transgender", or how could we forget Mr. "don't punch nazis because they're not evil unlike socialists"
that man is such an awful person and unfortunately a massive influence on the kids that are a fan of his game. im glad he's getting completely decoupled from his game.
"Pikachu surprised face" is used when an outcome is obvious to happen but yet people are still surprised or shocked by it. Please use Meme Formats™ correctly.
I like how Notch is a curse word to these people. Dare say his name and they'll swarm out of the woodwork to chide you for the umpteenth time about how horrible he is.
I heard that this shaders is software based, not hardware. I got this info from a news article, saying that you need at least a decent computer to actually run this, idk if they meant at least a computer with an i9 but... please let me know if it really is software based so that it may be possible for me to try it out on my hp pavilion.
*Places torch* PC:Ok thats another 3 hours to render

So how in Earth does a gtx 970 run real-time ray-tracing with infinite bounces GI when 2080ti struggles with less?
How can you prove this is not in fact a baked (but perhaps ray-traced) GI and some clever screen space reflection? Nothing is moving in the scene, everything is stationary, except a slow moving reflective sword.
If you're here to prove real-time path/ray-tracing, move lights around, move geometry around, make an outdoor scene and show that you can light everything with just the light comming from the sun. Which itself might rotate around the scene to further on prove the real-timeness claimed here.
My brother says to me "If Minecraft had a sequel with more modern graphics i'd play again." To be honest he never even saw the full glory of the SEUS shaders back when we played last. Now it's come this far? You're a fool if you think Minecraft is ugly.
One it's the GPU! Unless you have Integrated Graphics in your CPU, AND if you do it will cause your CPU to hit its MAX TDP and your computer will freeze
@Nyunster Nah it makes perfect sense. The TDP is basically the threshold of the power that the CPU can handle or produce or something, and when it hits that the computer will freeze. You can just look this stuff up in five seconds, really not that hard
You have to change the specularity texture (blockname_s) to something really bright. For example 100% white will give 100% clear reflections. The darker the texture - the smoother it gets but Cody is still working on the denoising so it's very noisy. For now, you either use no reflections (black texture or delete the texture file) or almost totally clear.
This won't even come close to "killing your system." Look at the specs of the PC used to record this video... Sigh Also, water cooling a locked CPU... You clearly have other, much bigger struggles...
You know a lot of those shaders are very RAM dependent right? You can have beefy specs but if you just have 8GB of ram that will really bottleneck stuff like that.
NGC 6872 I would but that would require a hardline loop as I have a 1080ti mini from zotac and I don’t think the nzxt g12 would fit it and I don’t really feel like doing it since people already don’t like my decision with the 8700
This is a fucking lie nice watercool on a locked cpu you should be fine running any ultra shaders I used Zeus high on my iMac with intel gpu lol now I have a 1070ti ftw
If you use Continuum then yeah it can't run at ultra+. Continuum isnt optimized for shit. Every other pack works fine on ultra for me. (Intel i7 8700 Gtx 1080 16 gigs ram)
@Miunity huh thats funny, are you using the E5 shader? I think I will be doing some more testing myself now :) Ive only been using it in flat worlds so far
People getting mad at someone for using water cooling on a locked CPU XD Chill down everyone got their reason for what hardware they use and also maybe you guys don't know but sometime water cooling is a lot quieter than normal air cooling thanks to the bigger dissipation area ( and personally I like more the look of the radiators compared to an heatsink)
@Miunity HAHAHA, ya plebs playing Minecraft with ultra shaders and only getting 90 fps!! I play with EXTREME shaders and get 250 fps!!!!! rtx 2070 for the win!!!
you dont need an RTX card Every Pascal starting from 1060 6gb to Titan XP can use Raytracing with new Nvidia patch aswell as AMDs Vega 56 and better can use it too thanks to Crytek a month ago. probably even a bit lower like a RX580 or 590 should handle Raytracing aswell. Its still just a renderer and can be handled by shader cores - RT cores are just specifically made for that task and regular shader cores are a bit slower but then its also about the gameengine and how efficient it was coded. Minecraft on Java from Microsoft has two problems: Microsoft isnt a good game developer and java is a bad engine. CryEngine 5.5 and Crytek are a way better combo - Crysis 1 was so crazy programmed 10 years ago that it makes 100% use of even todays gaming ultramachines raw power
Pls shows us some real gameplay with this graphics, like fighting zombies, night time gameplay, nether, the ender dragon, it would so much more interesting! Thought it's already very interesting.
Is this still the original engine? Modded obviously but is it technically still Minecraft or a copy with different engine? What happens if you go outside? How much FPS do you lose?
No because this is Minecraft. A game made like 12 years ago. Of course a GTX 970 can do ray tracing on it in small rooms btw he never pushed it pasted a few blocks at a time. The 2080ti was made for AAA games that came out recently
@Duka Duka depends on personal taste.. for me simple blocks like minecraft do not need hyper realistic light rendering i prefer to let these kind of renders to hyper realistic models and games

When the RTX version will come out? I need to play at 8k@60fps.
Nathan Harker yes for now RT cores cannot be utilized by optifine, eventually optifine is bound to add it but its a matter of time. for now, powerfull gpus can still run this, dont buy an RTX just for this thou.
Only problem is the light stops at a surface here, it doesnt bounce off walls. So it doesnt light up rooms which is honestly bad because it will make everything dark, this will only be good for horror maps or smth
This is AWESOME... SEUS stronger than RTX ! ! ! It's actually the best/most impressive path/ray tracing implementation in game to date ! Especially when you compare it PTGI ON /OFF
@umsoea what texture pack did You use, add in description plz. I got this shader the other day and have been trying out a few, like some things about yours
@Sonoflyn I've written a game in the blocky style and I gotta tell you: Those 32 chunks render distance are already very optimized for. In a render distance of 512 blocks there's literally millions of vertices just from the blocks alone. AFAIK there's no real possibility to reduce that beyond not rendering what you can't see. Doing something like a 1000 blocks render distance is really demanding of the GPU and especially of the driver. It's just too many drawcalls. Especially as, last I checked, minecraft uses a single draw call per block side. That's ridiculously many drawcalls. From 10k or so on the graphics driver slows down tremendously, eating up a lot of CPU time that in minecraft needs to be spent updating the world. And those numbers are easily reached with a render distance of 32 chunks already
@Zamundaaa well they could have an LOD system. Get far enough away from a block and instead of rendering the whole texture it only has a single color on that face, go further away and instead of rendering each single block they get "summed up" into one larger 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, etc. block. Minecraft just renders every exposed face at full texture detail and with the exact same level of geometry detail in a 32 chunk radius of the Player. Of course that's demanding
@Sonoflyn but you can see blocks in a distance of 500 blocks pretty well. It would definitely look weird. I have to inform you that sampling a texture and using just a colour has virtually no performance difference. Especially since Minecraft isn't fragment bound but more vertex bound, so it basically doesn't matter what they so with their textures. And of course above all it's more CPU bound then anything else.
@Zamundaaa like I said, just use larger blocks. If you had a cube consisting of 8 blocks you could just turn it into one larger block that would have 4x less faces
@Zamundaaa sampling a texture is actually not all that light. It's usually one of the things you should reduce to optimize your shaders. Its not heavy to sample a texture, but its not that light
@Zamundaaa minecraft uses 1 draw call per chunk. It takes 3 sides of every cube that is exposed to air, then makes a mesh out of them per chunk. Everytime something in the chunk updates, the mesh gets recalculated. If the edge of a chunk gets updated, the chunk next to it will also update it's mesh
@Luuk van Oijen so they have upgraded that to proper meshes? I didn't know that. For a loong time they just used a draw call / those old OpenGL functions per cube side.
@Luuk van Oijen uh yeah it's slow. Minecraft was never really optimized much for anything. It took them ages to go from legacy OpenGL where they basically drew per side, and everything submitted every frame from the CPU to even have VBOs as an option. I think that option came in 1.7 or something. And even then they probably just used a VBO to store a single block side...
@Zamundaaa i severly doubt it. Try rendering every block individually on the cpu, or even on the gpu, and you will quickly see that it will be waaaaay slower than minecraft ever was
@Luuk van Oijen I did that once. In a horribly inefficient way for the CPU. Could still render a view distance of like 200-300 blocks just fine with my old potato computer. It wasn't great or efficient but it worked. Minecraft's render distance was a lot smaller in the old days not without reason...
If one day I become a millionaire, I'll hire a bunch of people to update and make compatible all mods I want and make textures and models compatible with these shaders lol
@Mageh-The-Foh That is not just a shader, that is a combination of their shader and a resource pack. I have their shader, while the lighting effects are phenomenal, it does not have those textures.
This was just a decent shaders pack, because thats what it looks like and he isn't even using a card that supports ray tracing+minevraft has no ray tracing
Me back in when I was ten in 2010 in minecraft alpha:Woah a hole new dimension I wonder what theyl add next! The community in 2019:raytracing im 19 and my mind is still blown ive played this game for almost 9 years I thought Id seen it all...
I tried It with an RX580: crashes the game. But I don't know... AMD messed up the drivers, and i can't get the shaders to look properly, most of them have garbage graphics on screen, the only one that It's "perfect" is Chocapic. It looks bad on an RX460, too.
It doesn't work on AMD cards as AMD doesn't properly support a feature that is central for raytracing in Minecraft. That feature is only necessary due to the decade old version of OpenGL the game is using, though, so if the game was using a more modern version of OpenGL, it could absolutely run on AMD cards.
@umseoa how hard would it be to fix the issue with rays not passing through transparent parts of textures? I think you haven't implemented that yet from what I see but I could be wrong.
Could you explain what in particular is weird with the lava?
The texture or the acutual light that is illuminating other things? I made the texture completely smooth so the light sources don't distract from the shadows etc.
@umsoea well I am no professional but I think a little bit of texture would be good but it's only personal preference and I think a lot of people is satisfied with this!
The video compression isn't doing ray-tracing any favors, I'll turn on the hands video processing for my phone and see if that does anything other than increase the red levels.
The video upscaler probably won't do anything, the only thing it could do is it might change how the video is decoded, and it might smooth some lines but I don't know how that would affect Ray tracing
Just wait for nvidia new driver, they will give free reflection tracing but a discount version, not as good as rtx card has.
The only reason why nvdia do this is because cryengine shows a demo with ray tracing (reflection only) with a vega 56.well,they know they cannot sell their bullshit much longer so to makes nvidia looks good they give ray tracing to all pascal card.while they already rake as much money they can with the rtx scheme.
Imo,ray Tracing really shows its beauty on old games.new games has too much detail and barely take advantage of this technology.
Hoping to see more old school games with ray Tracing
it is easy to say it isn't on a GTX 970 because I used to have one and even with Minecraft on normal settings nothing open in the background it lagged really badly then I got a GTX 1060 and it does 10x better than it so that means I can get around 400 FPS on a RTX 2080TI founders edition plus the raytracing only works on RTX cards because of the hardware in it
2 things: 1: minecraft (java edition at least) is heavily CPU bound. as well as heavily reliant on arguments (such as garbage collection, editing this can give you/take away a decent chunk of preformance). Iv had ranges of 25 fps - 150fps just by changing arguments and tweaking settings. 2:this is path tracing, which is very similar to ray tracing. This technique produces similar GI and real time dynamic lighting and shadows to ray tracing and is a bit more effecient and can run (as in be actually playable) on non-rtx cards. also Raytracing can run on any card, its just RTX has extra dedicated silicon to assist. Doing raytrace rendering say in maya or 3dsmax can show you a similar effect to running RT on a non-rtx card. i used to use raytracing rendering plugins all the way back to gtx 590's
Yeah! And you can use this pack yourself right now! Only if you pay (insert amount here) a month to use it and it most likely won't come out of development for a public release anytime soon!
it "works" but the perf might vary wildly yet it runs fairly well, im using a full reflective and shiny texture pack to force massive amouts of reflections and well with 32 chunks render it gives me 30-40 fps, with a superflat world (but full reflective surface) so actually terrible case scenario, with a normal texture pack and a normal world with bumped UP shader settings and a 128x pack i average at 60-70 fps with a 1080 so, yea ur 1060 might not do 32 chunks but...
Link is at top. I went to it and there is an installation guide link. However, I can't find a download link though way down the page I clicked on what looked like one and it took me to a Patreon sign-up which requires at least $1USD per month. It will not utilize the RT and Tensor cores of your RTX card but it will work on your NVidia card. Apparently it's pretty buggy though. Latest version is SEUS PTGI v6.
I might be retarded but don't you N E E D Rt cores on your GPU to take advantage of RTX? Or are RT cores just dedicated cores for ray-tracing vs using regular cores?
It's funny how whenever people want to show off some technological advancement in video game graphics, they use minecraft. Like when Microsoft was trying to show off 4k in the xbox one x, they used fcking minecraft.
if you have a gtx 970 then you definitely do not have ray tracing because only the 2080TI has ray tracing so either you are using a NASA computer or their is something even more interesting going on here lol
I looked and went "My GTX 1050 will die, thinking he used a Nivida Tesla V100 GPU at 20,000 USD looks in discripson WHAT THE HOLY... A 970!! (I have msi laptop with i5)
So basicly if i run this on my pc i guess ill go to Alaska and make a full fucking global worming XD

Hmmm interesting vid, what mod or texture pack is this? Nvm read description and wait you have a 970 running this? Shooooot drop this now I want to see how far I can push my 1060, woooo time to burn my house down lol.
more likely this is path tracing, which is close enough visually that most situations it can pass off as it. PT doesnt care about poly count like RT does, just how many lights and dynamic effects are happening at once.
@Allyjhan Tallin no denying that, but this actually is a step forward. Not only a way to make games look and feel better without massive power requirements, and as a way to innovate the tech. I mean the fact they got shades to work in a Java game alone is crazy. I can't wait to start a forge in my pc case using this!

@just a bbygal RTX kinda was but they did make a proprietary chip on the cards meant for rendering the popular ray tracing method and it is more efficient
thats only a shader, not raytracing. jsut bc its new its not raytracing; Raytracing is a different rendering approach for reflections and light occulision. with raytracing u can possible look around corners by looking into a wet texture bc the renderer follows natural lightfall in reverse. means it send a "lightreq." from the eye of the use to the texture and then calculates what lightsource hits it and how and from where etc. I doubt there will be any raytracing ever for minecraft as long as you dont recode it into Unreal Engine 4.22 which has Raytracing for Pascal and Turing cards enabled or CryEngine 5.5 which has its own raytracing algorithm which enables even AMD GPUs like the Vega 56. It looks good, but well it makes everything be very plastoid as seen with the grass being no transparent whatsoever or the village having no real shader on itself. Java cant handle such workload. Java itself is pretty bullshit tbh as gameengine, it was okay to use 8 years ago, but not now.
hey :) ray tracing is nothing new. It's used for many years in all kinds of rendering applications and can be used on pretty much any card. You can even run it on cpus. RTX is mostly marketing and exploiting people who don't know this by selling them old technology.
why tf do i get worse results with performance and lighting on my gtx 1050? I dont understand, am I doing something wrong on the installation or is your gpu superclocked?
All I see here is light shadows, no real time reflections anywhere. People do understand what raytracing is right? Nothing what I saw here was Ray tracing, at least nothing outstanding. Maybe towards the end there were some but most of it was just light shadows.
actually you can, its just RTX mode is forced by nvidia to only be on RTX cards, ray tracing has been usable for ages, just not effectively. and amd was shown running RT as well recently.
it seems to be pathtracing from what iv read up on. and ray tracing is possible on non-rtx cards (otherwise how could you use RayTrace plugin in 3dsmax years ago on the GTX5xx series)
fyi ray tracing is actually more than pretty reflections, it affects GI and light bounce. like say putting a red wall and white floor, the light will bounce off the red wall and cast a red tint onto the floor. it also does very accurate real time shadows and caustics.
RTX =/= Raytracing RTX is a marketing scam just like PhysX was. You never needed a PhysX card to have physics in video games, and you will never need an RTX card for raytracing. Raytracing is one of the earliest techniques used to render a three dimensional space, not just lightning/luminosity Nvidia is trying to push this technology further to become mainstream for game developers to integrate into their games. Like I said, you never needed a PhysX gpu to "accurately" display falling objects and material tearing, but Nvidia's marketing ploy made it a requirement for these features to work in Mirrors Edge for example.
raytracing tech is cool etc. but its not realistic untill walls actually reflect lighting aswell which atm doesn't seem like it. atleast not in this video
Walls reflect light to other walls and this light gets reflected again and again. It's infinite bounces, I have some other videos where it's more visible (e.g. colorful walls). It is fully pathtraced (raytracing alone can't do this) global illumination like in physically based render engines :)
@umsoea thats the best answer i could've thought off. i have no idea if it's even possible on our current engines or hardware. but pathtracing would be the next step for sure
yes and no. technically you can run ray tracing rendering plugins but it will chug. rtx uses dedicated chips to assist in rendering (think a dedicated rendering cpu, which was done ages ago on old workstation cards). what this is, as far as i am aware, is pathtracing which is extremely similar, and since it is not depended on poly count like ray tracing, it runs better (until you make the scene more light complex).

at first i believe it ray tracing mod but went you say gtx instead rtx i know it fake. just shader mod not really ray tracing ;/. and yeah mc will be soo great have that feature but there downside, mining will more more harder with new lighning system,

You can't utilize RTX without an RTX card just like you can't utilize PhysX without a PhysX card. Does not mean that you can't do raytracing or have physics in games with a 970. @I I
it's not RTX. RTX is marketing. Raytracing/Pathtracing is something that exists for years and now it is slowly getting integrated into real time rendering engines. A GTX 970 is probably not the best choice, but it shows that this stuff even runs on this pretty old card :)

@TorchMobileHome if you notice I said it's very similar. I didn't say it was. Visually it's similar enough to be mistaken for one another if done correctly. And raytrace rendering can be done on a none rtx card. Raytracing in games is locked to rtx because that's how it was made to run. And amd is also now getting into raytracing as well.
@just a bbygal why do you talk about a subject that you don't know anything about ? Raytracing is possible on personal computers since the RTX series, it was too demanding in performances before the RTX series to be used on a PC. So every computer that have a GC under the RTX series is doing rasterization, not raytracing.
i think you are the second person on here who actually noticed that lol. but honestly PT is close enough to RT that its passable in a game. Not in realistic renders but close enough :P
well, what if I told you rtx is marketing and pretty much any graphics card can do raytracing. Raytracing exists for years and now finally hardware is powerful enough to run in real time applications like games.
@umsoea I guess you rendered this in 16:9 then, sorry. Thought you put black bars because normally youtube just adjusts to the aspect ratio so it looks nice on 21:9 monitors but here it gives me black bars on top and sides. So sorry xd
This type of grafics arent new. Its jast minecraft build on J A V A. And then you need to make so match optimaszeition to the game. If you build somefing close to this on directX 12 c++ you will get match beter lightning and stuff.
ray tracing is not limited to RTX. RTX just has extra parts to assist in rendering it. RT has been around for over a decade (i used it in rendering on my old GTX 590s). also technically you are correct(on the not RT part), as i believe that this is pathtracing
just a bbygal buddy you need a RTX card you to use Ray Tracing, the old GTX card don’t have the new RT cores and Turing Gpu, do they can’t to Ray tracing, this guys is using a GTX 970 witch isn’t RTX compatible
Sigh. Do some research. You can do ray tracing on any CPU or GPU provided the software supports it. NVidia's RTX cards are the most efficient at it but there's nothing stopping someone from creating code that supports modern graphics cards doing ray and/or path tracing.
@Petr Šebík lol, you want to say that the 970 have so much more performance than 1050ti? That's ridiculous

@DBRV actualy it has. I have 1050ti too. But if you look at benchmarks for example videocardbenchmark(dot)net then you can find scores GTX 970 - 8627 and GTX 1050Ti - 6015. So thats about 43% more powerfull.

Petr Šebík2019-04-27 20:21:39 (edited 2019-04-27 20:22:07 )
And yeah I know 12 fps and 60 or so is not 43% difference, but I guess the 970 was better equipped since it was the best GPU of its generation. Meanwhile 1050Ti is almost the "worst" GPU of its generation. I mean yeah it hell lot of cheaper but its just not that powerfull as best gpu from last gen.
i mean why not?im running a ddr4 machine now, but i still have my 3960x machine running as a secondary server, it uses 64gb of ddr3. i let that handle video encoding and file/game server hosting.RAM can have an effect but only on things that utilize the difference (say VMs, RamCache, etc)
It is still under heavy development and there is no official download yet. But you can support the creator Sonic Ether on Patreon to be able to download the experimental version used in this video. (U need Gold tier)
This runs on a 970 around 30 fps? Far more impressive than any RTX Nvidia has shown off and it runs on old hardware, whereas RTX only runs on RTX GPUs, looks worse, and has similar frame rates. What a joke RTX is.
Hey, the sword texture I used here is one I made a few years ago. It is supposed to fake reflections. Since you are the only one who noticed it, I would be really interested if you could give me a feedback on what exactly you find weird.
oh, no offence but I kinda meant the model itself, as it isnt from minecraft, but those reflections are definitely convincing, I wouldnt notice anything out of the ordinary with it

35 likesDragoFX_ they do exaggerate, but not that much actually.
35 likes@ETERNAL DREAMER they cutted corners to get this to this point, it's diluted ray tracing
22 likesDragoFX_ which corners?
5 likes@DragoFX_ RTX is fully legit and greatly optimizes BVH traversal. It can result in a 7-8x improvement on raytraced and pathtraced draw times. There's nothing 'diluted' about it, or other nonsense. Every video card should get raytracing hardware to accelerate RT visuals or be stuck in the past.
56 likes@DragoFX_ RTX cards can be used to run 100% raytraced games, but its not very efficient yet. We need like 3 more generations before 100% raytraced games are feasible. In the mean time, partially raytraced games can suffice.
32 likesFedoraGFX I think 2 generations
2 likes@FedoraGFX I mean there's the Quake 2 fully raytraced version accelerated via DXR. It is done today. But getting the sort of fidelity you really want out of full scene path tracing with very detailed models is going to take a while.
10 likes@DiamondGB Yeah I mean quake 2 looks amazing with RTX but its still low res textures and models. Definitely a step in the right direction

0 likes@ETERNAL DREAMER Can this shaders works on AMD RX cards?
2 likesactually its not that ironic, since the game has a pretty basic 3d structure with not much details, therefore its way easier to develop ray tracing for it, unlike for some bigger title that has way more details and objects
0 likesVictor Isaev the only things that minecraft makes easier are geometry and textures, everything else is sampled as complex as it would in any other game. But as far as I know rasterization engines don't look back on geometry or texture complexity, so it comes only to path-tracing alone

0 likesAll people talking shit here without having a clue.
0 likesThere are other "ray-tracing" techniques, such as ray-marching.

0 likes@The True Inferno ,
0 likesWait, are you whining that there are too FEW RT cores in Turing?

21 likes@RebornPhoenixVR you don't need an RTX card to have ray tracing, RTX is just built for that one purpose in mind.

1 likeRTX isn't built solely for ray tracing as there's DLSS and other upcoming features including audio path tracing, but yes that was a main focus for the architecture. you can also do ray tracing on any CPU or GPU provided the software supports it. It's all just math. RTX cards are currently the most efficient hardware for desktop PC gaming to do ray tracing.
@Jeffrey PhotonboyI think I just worded it a bit badly, I just meant it's the main focus of the card as you said as well. I appreciate the extra information though.

101 likeswilliam smith not mine it really depends on the cooking used, and if it’s clean.I have a EVGA 1070ti FTW I use it for VR and it never goes above 70c on full load with a heavy OC I tried Minecraft and my fans don’t even spin with Zeus Ultra no OC, whole pc is air cooled btw
9 likes@fortniteaccount 194 this is ray tracing dude, your 1070 would overheat with these graphics no joke. The mod creator says you need a 1080 or higher.
28 likesBut isn't that what cryptocurrencies were made for?
4 likestrolololo720 Graphics cards weren’t made for miners do you have my fucking edu. Goddamn
14 likes@fortniteaccount 194 Graphics cards weren't in the start made for gaming, there are cards that are made for mining. Same for gaming or what ever you do
2 likesfortniteaccount 194 you’re mistaking heat and temperature. Even though your 1070 has good fans on it, it’s still producing 500 watts of heat when it's under full load because it's a 500 watt card. The temperature of the card doesn't get too much higher, but that's because the heat dissipates into the room. Hence all computers are space heaters that happen to do calculations
19 likeswilliam smith he cant hear us he got airpods
7 likes@Sussus amogus No. It would get hot but not overheat. If it overheated that would be a design flaw or a faulty card.
7 likes@Alexander M the 1070 ti will consume about 200-300wats under load lol
0 likesMitjkp then it's a 200-300 watt space heater. The point still stands. I was just going off the wattage you get when you Google "1070 wattage" :P
3 likes@fortniteaccount 194
2 likesFirst of all, that was a joke.

0 likes@Dylan Harding yeah but there are GTX Titans which aren't made for gaming, GTX cards aren't only made for gaming
0 likes@Dylan Harding The only thing handled by the gpu there is the actual shading & ray tracing, the rest is CPU based, thats java for ya, mainly cpu based, still doesnt change the fact that every1 is being pissy about gfx cards
0 likes@Bingo even java is optimised enough for graphics on the gpu.
0 likes@Dylan Harding Still mainly CPU based, Shaders & Ray Tracing, mainly when it comes to texture smoothing & stuff like that is on the GFX card, the rest is on the CPU, java has decent optimisations on cpu but could be better.

Captain Hologram the thing about all of these fancy shaders is that it’s not true ray tracing, it’s path tracing witch might as well be the same thing but in the end Minecraft lack all support for rtx ray tracing whatsoever.
66 likesim calling the polygon police
36 likesActually this doesn't seem to look dynamical, though. I assume all this stuff was precalculated and baked into textures. Convince me i'm wrong by walking the same scene with the light source, a torch for example.

3 likeslil_ king what do you even mean? Lots of people seem to think that path tracing in Minecraft shaders is raytracing, I just wanted to clear up confusion. I get the joke, it’s just that path tracing can raytracing are not the same thing because that would make rtx cards worthless.
20 likes@kennedy moreiras rtx cards are gimmick.
5 likes@Nobodyy 1211 i would actually only buy it for this feature although $2000 is not worth it
2 likesWhat in the hell is the difference between a Rtx and a gtx then
2 likes@Darksynth781 E RTX does ray-tracing and has a little more power and costs $1000 more than a GTX
3 likesSo I have a gtx 1070 which can’t do ray tracing then?
0 likes@kennedy moreiras what? Nvidia GPUs just have some specific hardware to utilise ray tracing...
2 likesChris Moorhead yes, the 1070 cannot do raytracing.
0 likesFairfox what do you mean, that’s what I’m saying. rtx cards have rt cores for raytracing, which are missing on gtx cards.

0 likesFroztByte Gamer rip, the 900 series graphics cards didn’t age well and didn’t transfer to laptops the best compared to the 1000 series.
1 like@CanadianBluePants Where are you getting your figures from? There are no RTX Cards besides the titan that are over $1000. The Rtx 2060 is going for about $349 right now which happens to be $60 more than the 1 tier lower GTX 1660 ti and would be plenty powerful enough to run ray tracing in minecraft, if it was supported lol.
2 likes@Cody Medrano AUD mate, dont assume everybody lives in the US
1 like@CanadianBluePants Where you live doesn't matter. The price difference will be the same. You will be paying 20-30% more for the next tier up. Not assuming anything just stating that theres not a $1000 price gap between what Gtx cards and rtx cards can do.
0 likeskennedy moreiras not forever. continuum is developing a new engine that is fully ray-tracing compatible
0 likes@kennedy moreiras the 1070 CAN do ray tracing!
0 likes@kennedy moreiras I quote: "I think you're confused about how ray tracing works, ray tracing is bouncing individual rays of light, it can be done on pretty much any hardware. Fairfox no it can’t. That’s the whole point of rtx cards. Gtx cards can path trace, but no raytracing on them.
1 likeAMusic海の精神 I don’t mean that, I just mean like real time ray tracing in games like what rtx cards do is not possible for non ray tracing gpus, as in only rtx cards can ray trace real time in games, but Minecraft lacks support for any ray tracing.
1 likeAMusic海の精神 this wouldn’t be raytracing, Minecraft doesn’t support that or at least not yet. It is all path tracing, or at least the Nvidia standard of rtx ray tracing.
1 likeCrap, im on a gtx 970m
0 likesHenry Nguyen oh rip, the 70 series is solid quality and even if the 900 series didn’t age as well it still performs thesame as a modern 1050ti, so not obsolete or bad by any means.
0 likes@kennedy moreiras i completely agree, the 970 has always worked for me very well, i was making a joke about how the 970m has slightly lower specs. Infact for vr it recommends a minimum 970, and the 970m didnt cut it (still worked XD)
0 likesOh boy. Lots of misinformation here.
2 likes1) path tracing is a form of ray tracing, specifically Monte Carlo ray tracing.
0 likesKajMak64Bit yeah, Nvidia releases drivers to allow all gtx cards above 1060 I think to ray trace. Of course the only gtx card that can raytrace worth a damn is the gtx 1080 ti, while the 1060 and 1070 get solid 10 fps.
0 likesheroclix0rz I’m just talking about the Nvidia rtx ray tracing here, and cards that arnent rtx outside of the 1080ti are not worth ray tracing at all.
1 like@kennedy moreiras wrong. With the latest driver that just released, the Ray tracing api was just released to gtx cards. I tested BF5 with DXR on my 1070 and it worked fine at a just playable rate.
1 like@kennedy moreiras nah man you can only path trace on a map because you need the hardware support from the paper, you must be thinking about Ray marching.
0 likesThis is how mafia work
0 likesA Brit & Whovian most cards can’t ray trace at the level of the rtx cards, you have to set the settings to medium to get playable frame rates while raytracing. If your 1070 was out through the raytracing that rtx cards are supposed to go through it would not be playable, even a 1080ti at ultra raytracing can only pull 30-40 FPS.
0 likesnow nvidia is releasing drivers to allow pascal and turing gpus to ray trace without rt cores lol
0 likesnow is legal jeje but not for the 970 soooo
0 likesRandom Meme Encounter lmao the only gtx cards that can raytrace worth a damn without slashing frame rates or settings is the 1080ti.

0 likesRTX cards have Tensor and RT cores and thus can do Ray (and Path) tracing more efficiently.
Since this is hardly my area of expertise here's a link:
https://www.dusterwald.com/2016/07/path-tracing-vs-ray-tracing/
0 likesYou keep saying ps5 has it been officially announced that it will support ray tracing will the next Xbox support it to

0 likesIn VR one of the major disadvantages of Rasterized rendering (the way its usually done), if i'm not mistaken, is that the frame can only be displayed when it is finished rendering, which means it has to be dropped if it isn't delivered in time.

9 likes@John Theux huh good luck trying to render 33 billion pixels at even 5 or 10 fps
15 likesfor comparison 1080p renders at around more than 2 million pixels
+Vlad With DLSS on you can play at 4k@80 fps so 8k@20 fps with a single 2080ti so if there is 2x scaling (which is probably not) you can hope to play at 8k@40fps with 2 cards
0 likesMaybe with two RTX Titans for that extra VRAM needed to play at 8k LOL
2 likes+Hoss Cartwright Yeah, 80fps@4k was for justice online anyway, not star citizen.

2 likes@John Theux oh yea im sure they will implement it, but 8k40fps with ray tracing on won't be possible for another couple years id say at least, especially star citizen.
1 like@Chandler JC Another thing will be 3d. With one image for each eye that will be even harder. (i hope they will start to build 3d screens again but there is also vr like the pimax 8kx with native 4k for each eye)

8k needs 18.2 times the time or calculating speed of full HD to render a single frame on the same hardware.
@FotoschoPro Most screens will be 7680X4320 so 16 times full hd.
0 likes15 yrs later you gonna want 16k 480fps
3 likesVlad I don't think 8k is 33 billion pixels.
0 likes@Random Portugal 33 million
0 likesI just want Star Citizen to be completely anything.
1 like@vlad rtx titans in sli can do 8k 60 easily at max settings
0 likes@FotoschoPro ,
0 likesFPS is not directly proportional to the pixel count, especially going forward.
Wow all it takes is some good textures and lighting to make the game look incredible.
0 likesWe have come a long way from its roots, from building random skyscrapers, to the most advance bunker, to the most advance graphical capabilities. Like Notch said,"This adventure is up to you"

128 likesReplies (1)
Well ray tracing just IS realistic by rule, because it really casts rays out off light sources ans/or camera and bounces them around feew times to simulate realistically how light bounces around until it falls into our eyes in real life.
11 likesit almost looks better than the quake 2 raytracing.
0 likesBut, speaking of which, can't you ise the free voxels to create an estimate trace, then do a second trace that is more refined, making it faster and lighter?

infinite bounces seems overdone. even professional rendering software like blender or cinema 4D limit the amount of bounces to 1024 or sometimes even lower. 64-128 bounces per ray should be more than enough for these purposes. also, wouldn't it take an infinite amount of time to render 1 pixel since a ray can keep bouncing around forever?

0 likesFor the people that are thinking
1 like“Omg this is not real ray tracing because u would need an RTX card blabla”
Yeeaah..no.
This is Path tracing (title is wrong), which is superior to ray tracing because it is:
- faster
- more realistic (yes, really, look it up adoredTV has a great video on it)
- did i mention faster?
Which is why this is able to run on a GTX970
Replies (1)
Pathtracing is not faster. Pathtracing is global illumination, reflection, translucency, shadows, caustics etc., while raytracing marketed nowadays takes only one of mentioned to be able to run. It's probably so fast in minecraft because it uses voxel data to store objects, low poly count, only 1-2 bounces, low res lookup, denoising. You've got no clue what path tracing is my man.

So how in Earth does a gtx 970 run real-time ray-tracing with infinite bounces GI when 2080ti struggles with less?
0 likesHow can you prove this is not in fact a baked (but perhaps ray-traced) GI and some clever screen space reflection? Nothing is moving in the scene, everything is stationary, except a slow moving reflective sword.
If you're here to prove real-time path/ray-tracing, move lights around, move geometry around, make an outdoor scene and show that you can light everything with just the light comming from the sun. Which itself might rotate around the scene to further on prove the real-timeness claimed here.

One it's the GPU! Unless you have Integrated Graphics in your CPU, AND if you do it will cause your CPU to hit its MAX TDP and your computer will freeze
0 likes@Glitch The Deer I'm pretty sure you're just spouting random words you heard on a tech channel
0 likes@Nyunster Nah it makes perfect sense. The TDP is basically the threshold of the power that the CPU can handle or produce or something, and when it hits that the computer will freeze. You can just look this stuff up in five seconds, really not that hard
0 likesI just don't know who to r/wooosh
0 likesHow did you get the reflections to look more like, visible in reflective blocks. Mine look extremely noisy
1 likeReplies (1)
You have to change the specularity texture (blockname_s) to something really bright. For example 100% white will give 100% clear reflections. The darker the texture - the smoother it gets but Cody is still working on the denoising so it's very noisy. For now, you either use no reflections (black texture or delete the texture file) or almost totally clear.

0 likesEvery Pascal starting from 1060 6gb to Titan XP can use Raytracing with new Nvidia patch aswell as AMDs Vega 56 and better can use it too thanks to Crytek a month ago. probably even a bit lower like a RX580 or 590 should handle Raytracing aswell.

It's actually the best/most impressive path/ray tracing implementation in game to date ! Especially when you compare it PTGI ON /OFF
As a graphics designer and engineer, this is not ray tracing. This is what's called predefined path tracing. Still very good looking

0 likesI'd rather have a proper LOD system and higher render distance than this
14 likesReplies (19)
That's why we have mods
0 likesLOD in minecraft? The whole game is basically the lowest you can get in the level of detail.
0 likes@dewolen no? if it was the render distance wouldn't be only 32 chunks
0 likes@Sonoflyn I've written a game in the blocky style and I gotta tell you: Those 32 chunks render distance are already very optimized for.
0 likesIn a render distance of 512 blocks there's literally millions of vertices just from the blocks alone.
3 likes@Sonoflyn but you can see blocks in a distance of 500 blocks pretty well. It would definitely look weird.
0 likesI have to inform you that sampling a texture and using just a colour has virtually no performance difference. Especially since Minecraft isn't fragment bound but more vertex bound, so it basically doesn't matter what they so with their textures. And of course above all it's more CPU bound then anything else.
@Zamundaaa You could still at least have lower geometry detail the further you go away from something like almost every open world game has.
1 like@Sonoflyn but Minecraft is already like low poly * 300. I don't see how you could reduce vertex count of their models even further.
0 likes@Zamundaaa like I said, just use larger blocks. If you had a cube consisting of 8 blocks you could just turn it into one larger block that would have 4x less faces
1 like@Sonoflyn the texture stuff is already a thing in minecraft. It's called mipmapping
1 like@Zamundaaa sampling a texture is actually not all that light. It's usually one of the things you should reduce to optimize your shaders. Its not heavy to sample a texture, but its not that light
1 likeI think you can bump up the rd with optifine, at least if you allocate more ram. I gave it 4gigs, and now I can run 62 chunks rd
0 likes@Real Human yeah but that's just more demanding and still doesn't really allow you to look very far
0 likes@Zamundaaa minecraft uses 1 draw call per chunk. It takes 3 sides of every cube that is exposed to air, then makes a mesh out of them per chunk. Everytime something in the chunk updates, the mesh gets recalculated. If the edge of a chunk gets updated, the chunk next to it will also update it's mesh
0 likes@Luuk van Oijen so they have upgraded that to proper meshes? I didn't know that.
0 likesFor a loong time they just used a draw call / those old OpenGL functions per cube side.
@Zamundaaa i dont think they ever did. Do you know how incredibly slow that would be :O
0 likes@Luuk van Oijen uh yeah it's slow. Minecraft was never really optimized much for anything.
0 likesIt took them ages to go from legacy OpenGL where they basically drew per side, and everything submitted every frame from the CPU to even have VBOs as an option. I think that option came in 1.7 or something. And even then they probably just used a VBO to store a single block side...
@Zamundaaa i severly doubt it. Try rendering every block individually on the cpu, or even on the gpu, and you will quickly see that it will be waaaaay slower than minecraft ever was
0 likes@Luuk van Oijen I did that once. In a horribly inefficient way for the CPU. Could still render a view distance of like 200-300 blocks just fine with my old potato computer. It wasn't great or efficient but it worked. Minecraft's render distance was a lot smaller in the old days not without reason...

0 likesIt doesn't work on AMD cards as AMD doesn't properly support a feature that is central for raytracing in Minecraft. That feature is only necessary due to the decade old version of OpenGL the game is using, though, so if the game was using a more modern version of OpenGL, it could absolutely run on AMD cards.

Nvidia rtx card has that feature
0 likesShadow Ray tracing and reflection tracing + etc

0 likesit is easy to say it isn't on a GTX 970 because I used to have one and even with Minecraft on normal settings nothing open in the background it lagged really badly then I got a GTX 1060 and it does 10x better than it so that means I can get around 400 FPS on a RTX 2080TI founders edition plus the raytracing only works on RTX cards because of the hardware in it
0 likesReplies (1)
2 things:
0 likes1: minecraft (java edition at least) is heavily CPU bound. as well as heavily reliant on arguments (such as garbage collection, editing this can give you/take away a decent chunk of preformance).
Im just like... "But... But why?"
0 likesOK NOW THAT SWORD IS COOL

it "works" but the perf might vary wildly yet it runs fairly well, im using a full reflective and shiny texture pack to force massive amouts of reflections and well with 32 chunks render it gives me 30-40 fps, with a superflat world (but full reflective surface) so actually terrible case scenario, with a normal texture pack and a normal world with bumped UP shader settings and a 128x pack i average at 60-70 fps with a 1080 so, yea ur 1060 might not do 32 chunks but...

this is path tracing, which is very similar to ray tracing. Doing raytrace rendering say in maya or 3dsmax can show you a similar effect to running RT on a non-rtx card.

0 likesthats only a shader, not raytracing. jsut bc its new its not raytracing; Raytracing is a different rendering approach for reflections and light occulision. with raytracing u can possible look around corners by looking into a wet texture bc the renderer follows natural lightfall in reverse. means it send a "lightreq." from the eye of the use to the texture and then calculates what lightsource hits it and how and from where etc.
0 likesIt looks good, but well it makes everything be very plastoid as seen with the grass being no transparent whatsoever or the village having no real shader on itself. Java cant handle such workload. Java itself is pretty bullshit tbh as gameengine, it was okay to use 8 years ago, but not now.

RTX =/= Raytracing
0 likesRTX is a marketing scam just like PhysX was.
You never needed a PhysX card to have physics in video games, and you will never need an RTX card for raytracing.
Raytracing is one of the earliest techniques used to render a three dimensional space, not just lightning/luminosity
Nvidia is trying to push this technology further to become mainstream for game developers to integrate into their games.
Like I said, you never needed a PhysX gpu to "accurately" display falling objects and material tearing, but Nvidia's marketing ploy made it a requirement for these features to work in Mirrors Edge for example.

Replies (2)
Walls reflect light to other walls and this light gets reflected again and again. It's infinite bounces, I have some other videos where it's more visible (e.g. colorful walls). It is fully pathtraced (raytracing alone can't do this) global illumination like in physically based render engines :)

0 likesReplies (1)
yes and no. technically you can run ray tracing rendering plugins but it will chug. rtx uses dedicated chips to assist in rendering (think a dedicated rendering cpu, which was done ages ago on old workstation cards). what this is, as far as i am aware, is pathtracing which is extremely similar, and since it is not depended on poly count like ray tracing, it runs better (until you make the scene more light complex).
1 likeat first i believe it ray tracing mod but went you say gtx instead rtx i know it fake. just shader mod not really ray tracing ;/. and yeah mc will be soo great have that feature but there downside, mining will more more harder with new lighning system,

0 likesRAY TRACING in the gtx 970? I don't think so
0 likesReplies (9)
i dont think you understand how this works
0 likesI see that is something called path tracing, but not Ray tracing (not ironically)
0 likes@JC ermm, any gpu can raytrace
0 likes@fyz Now I know that is possible but is hard to believe that a 970 can run Ray tracing this smooth
0 likes@JC oh and this is probably pathtracing
0 likes@fyz I said it, path tracing, not Ray tracing. I am confused now
0 likes@JC yes but still its a kind of raytracing, and raytracing and pathtracing is both possible on any gpu
0 likes@fyz oh Now I got it. But Ray tracing is "heavier"?
0 likes@JC probably

It was path tracing they use CUDA/Cores for path tracing not ray tracing.

0 likespath tracing* its not the same as ray tracing
0 likesReplies (1)
They work the same way and outputs similar result RTX just sounds fancier than PTX
0 likesThat’s not ray tracing it doesn’t even have an rtx card
0 likesReplies (1)
ray tracing is not limited to RTX. RTX just has extra parts to assist in rendering it. RT has been around for over a decade (i used it in rendering on my old GTX 590s). also technically you are correct(on the not RT part), as i believe that this is pathtracing

Why does it say Ray Tracing and you’re not even using an RTX card?
0 likesReplies (2)
Because an RTX card is not required? Raytracing was done in 2006 mind you.
0 likesjust a bbygal buddy you need a RTX card you to use Ray Tracing, the old GTX card don’t have the new RT cores and Turing Gpu, do they can’t to Ray tracing, this guys is using a GTX 970 witch isn’t RTX compatible
0 likeslol your running a gtx 970 how can it do raytracing in realtime???
0 likesIt's fake because you need direct x 12 to Ray tracing works, Minecraft use opengl

0 likeshow you use RAY TRACING in gtx 970? you have demência?
1 likeReplies (1)
Sigh. Do some research. You can do ray tracing on any CPU or GPU provided the software supports it. NVidia's RTX cards are the most efficient at it but there's nothing stopping someone from creating code that supports modern graphics cards doing ray and/or path tracing.

1 likeLol, i have 12 fps with 1050Ti and i7-7700K 16gb Ram, why?
0 likesReplies (4)
Because 1050ti isnt that powerfull.
0 likes@Petr Šebík lol, you want to say that the 970 have so much more performance than 1050ti? That's ridiculous
0 likes@DBRV actualy it has. I have 1050ti too. But if you look at benchmarks for example videocardbenchmark(dot)net then you can find scores GTX 970 - 8627 and GTX 1050Ti - 6015. So thats about 43% more powerfull.
0 likesAnd yeah I know 12 fps and 60 or so is not 43% difference, but I guess the 970 was better equipped since it was the best GPU of its generation. Meanwhile 1050Ti is almost the "worst" GPU of its generation. I mean yeah it hell lot of cheaper but its just not that powerfull as best gpu from last gen.
