The weirdest thing happened the other night.

I had a dream that I was watching mlp and next to twilight, there was a door behind her and Grogar was ramming into the door and as twilight opened it, she saw grogar standing like 10 or 15 feet away from her.

That was pretty weird.

Imagine if the real Grogar showed up for real instead of Discord posing as him

last time I was this early, "Starswirl is Discord" was the most viable headcannon

Remember how you made that theory about Twilight and Cadence being artificial alicorns and that's why they don't have flowing hair.. Twilight now has flowing hair as well😶

I feel she has gotten flowing hair cuz she is older now. It doesn't show whether Cadence has it too but I am guessing she has it as well cuz we are in the future and everyone is aging. The other five are also becoming really old cuz their hair started becoming grey.

In your theory of discord being the spirit of Chaos balancing out the spirit of harmony wouldn’t this be the first representation of chaos versus harmony with Grogar the first representation of chaos and the tribes become the first representation of harmony since its the first known story of the timeline wouldn’t it be fitting for it to be the start of the battle between chaos and harmony there for making it the start of the timeline

I decided to look up Gusty and the first thing came up was gen 1, that version of Gusty looked a lot like Gusty the Great... maybe someone could make a theory on how each generation is connect or something idk, its a fun idea at least :)

Well... in an interview Lauren Fause basically confirmed that it was actually Celestia who aided Nightmare Moon in her escape, as she was in controll of the sun, moon and stars.

This is surprisingly in depth and honestly, I am impressed. I have always been a fan of MLP but I long since stopped doing reviews of MLP. Despite that, I will forever remain a Pegasister. I will forever love Party Favor, Pinky, Twilight, Doctor Whooves and of course, Discord. :}

I'm writing a fic where Twilight goes back in time to become Clover the Clever, and while I was initially hesitant about the idea in this video I came to realize that pre-equestrian history has no timeline, as it were, and can be as lengthy as we need it to be.

I absolutely love deep dives into lore like this. I always wonder how much of this was actually intended, or if it's just headcanon for now. And subscribed.

Yeah you say it’s your opinion. But I honestly think it is a fact. When Grogar was trying to take over, they all had no choice but to form an alliance with others, and defeating Grogar.

All of what Grogar did, was something they had no choice to do, other than join together to take him down. And with that, they couldn’t just say
“Soooo, that was fun. Well time for me to be lonely and never speak to any pony ever again.”
They found out that Friendship could help them through almost anything. And being with someone is better than just doing everything on your own.

Personally, I have been a huge fan of MLP! Consequently, I have been doing lot's and lot's of research on MLP. Recently I watched the season finals be aware there may be some spoilers ahead just in case you haven't seen them. After watching them something has been really bothering me about the character Groger and yes I know Discord pretended to be him but seriously that does not mean anything to me. I found some crazy evidence that another series maybe connected to MLP and explain exactly what happened to Gorger and that series is Dragon Ball Super. Yes, I know that you're thinking this is crazy but if you pay attention to the similarities between these characters the there is definetely a corelation! Let me show you- a character named Moro from DBZ and MLP'S two characters Lord Tirek and Gorger. Moro is this new character that has been imprisoned for a very long time he steals magic from others and is very powerful. Did you see his first appearance? It looks exactly like Lord Tirek's first appearance! But I don't think that Lord Tirek is Moro to be honest. I think that Gorger became Moro when he was banished by Star Swirl or Gusty the Great to the DBZ universe!.. This is just a theory but this could be very possible because as we know both the DBZ and MLP universes have parallel worlds in them and have the use of time travel. This would make sense why the character Bulma made a appearance in S5E21. But the biggest evidence is in the Dragon Ball Super Manga where Moro say's (" it's clear to me that no being in this universe possesses the power to seal away my magic . How wonderful it is not to have to fear that anymore) I think the world that Moro is referring to Equestria where he used to be Gorger and had his powerful bell of magic stolen from him. It is really nice to see one of my favourite bronies make theories again, actually I had the same idea like you about grogar kinda. But it was a little diffrent. In my theory, grogar is actually the one who made some regular ponies into three tribes by his dark magic at the first place. Sorry fir a long comment🤭😂

Gogar did make an apperence, one from very long ago. It was back in G1 of mlp. There are alot of references that call back to g1. It's where alot of the history of mlp come from. Even Gusty the great makes an apperecne in the older generations.

mlp needs to make more episodes about the backstory of all these characters, or maybe explaining the windows in the future. i rlly wanna see what starlight does in the future.

It's funny, I came back to the fandom after almost a year long hiatus after the series ended and with more determination than when mlp was ongoing :'D

If Cloudsdale was around at the same time as Grogar and Gusty the Great, it must be a VERY old city. Ponyville is like a baby by comparison.
I wonder if Grogar had any minions besides his monsters. The monsters probably ran off or got rounded up, but we never hear about any servants or soldiers he might have had.

That does bring up some questions, though. If Pegasi had no contact with the ponies on the ground until after Gragar's reign, how did they survive living solely in the clouds? It's impossible to grow crops in the clouds, and during every mention of the time before Celestia and Luna, all the food came solely from Earth Ponies who learned how to grow their own food. On top of that, is Unicorns weren't always banded together, How'd they get days and nights before Celestia and Luna were even born? They made it clear that no other ponies in history were capable of moving the sun or moon alone until after Celestia and Luna came along and became the first fair rulers of Equestria.

Here’s a theory you might want to consider. It's been heavily hinted/implied that the dark magic that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon was remnants of the darkness that infused with Stygian to turn him into the Pony of Shadows. Maybe the darkness (which was apparently at least semi-sentient) had planned for some union between the two at some point. And just imagine how powerful and evil their heir would be. It might evil surpass the real Grogar.

Speaking of Grogar, we might still see the real one in show canon. The show may have ended, but there’s going to be a Season 10 in comic form (a continuation of the show that’s separate from the current MLP comic, which follows a different continuity). So the real Grogar may be villain for that, like maybe the use of his bell called to or awakened him. Or maybe he’ll appear as the villain for the upcoming 2021 movie that’s supposed to bridge Gen 4 with the upcoming Gen 5.

The villans say "The land that would become Equestria" so that means it's right after the three tribes moved to the now land fleeing from the windigos so either it's between them ariving there or after the friendship fire which seems likely considering they menshion cloudsdale.

I completely forgot that my little pony was originally from the 80’s. I found out that Grogar was actually a villainess character and they defeated Grogar’s POWER by ringing a huge bell then the bell on his chest thingy melted. He didn’t actually disappear, his bell did.
But then again, this is a completely different show. The original mlp was just based off of the toys, so I’m not too sure if looking into the 80’s show would be useful information, although it was be quite interesting.

Have you considered... In a previous video, you mentioned Grogar created the other monsters by merging different species. Perhaps, after losing his bell, Grogar saw the power the Alicorns received, and fused himself with the various "intelligent" races in Equestria to regain his former power, but backfired, creating Discord. Discord is an amalgamate of several Equestrian races, and was able to act like Grogar a bit too convincingly, to not have been intimate with him.

I just thought of something, the magical beam of light mentioned in the story looked really close to the sonic rainboom doesnt it? May not be much of a theory cause the real story was told but what if that beam of light also formed the 6 pillars? Kinda similar to the mane 6 with the sonic rainboom rainbow dash did before they met.

Ok so I never actually watched season 9, I'm just binging Sawtooth's videos, I didn't know Grogar was Discord and the reveal made me full on scream

I've been a fan of this chanal for years and it makes me really happy that your going to try to upload more often again expressly sence you were the first brony youtuber I ever watched.

There's a flaw with this theory. Grogar was the "first emperor of Equestria" and Cloudsdale is an Equestrian city, so it wouldn't have been founded yet before tensions rose between the tribes. They weren't tribes at that point, they were Equestrians.

I think that's a perfect end too the story twilight was reading it made me sit on the edge of my seat with exitment! i loved it! like if you agree!

There now needs to be a strategy game called "equestria: origins" that has you playing as the original tribes in the resistance.

I really like that History of Grogar's Epoch of Darkness indirectly led the original formations of the pony tribes. It would be interesting if in the future after the end of the series: Equestria faces A new challenge of a militant organization that operates outside Royal command, their purpose is to revolutionize and defend Equestria by learning and adapting with all the information being valid with no mares tales & unifying All Creatures in part of the Equestrian Guard. This equestrian Union is led by a former Royal Guardsmen who learned through all the battles at the Mane 6, there's the shoes of Celestia's plans and the fault of her leadership, plans to save Equestria in his own way while denouncing Celestia as a traitor/Failure, & televises the morality of the Mane 6 by questioning them of the choices of how the villains are dealt with in contrast to one another. With this rivalry of head-butting methods & philosophies of the Equestrian Union and the Equestrian Alliance; this could start a new Civil War within each of the kingdoms! Rise of the Equestrian Union / Equestrian Civil War.

something I was seeing also is. why does the map change so much from the brown map to the colored one? like whole areas are added to it??? like there was stuff drawn in those places before but then suddenly. poof. new huge land masses like the one to the left by that river. there is clear coast lines drawn like its been explored before then in the colored one a huge land mass is suddenly there. how did such a huge change to the land happen? hmm wonder if that was ever talked about or explained. idk if it has.

Season 9 must be revised so that Grogar is real and the main antagonist, just as we all expected him to be.

my GOD did I miss you Brony Notion! This was an amazing video as always :)

there was something like this in World of warcraft's the thunder king... when he was became the first emperor of the land of panderia, he standardize weights and measurements, writing, language and math. He also made the great wall to help defend against the mantid swarms. but he made the other races into slaves to do so and wipe out any thing that was made before.

For those who don't know! Grogar was in one of the the very first My Little Pony Series! The episodes he was in are called The Return of Tambelon. Though what happens in the original and what the stories in FIM don't line up perfectly, the stories are similar. That series also took place in the "fields and pastures" that are referred to. I was happy they included Grogar in FIM even if it was actually Discord. It makes it feel like the series are connect in some way even if just by a thread. Even if the series are different universes I still think it's amazing. I would highly recommend watching the series with Grogar (even if it is a little old)

By the way it also couldn’t be marching off to war as grogar would be smart and not stop them it would be a great way to let them make their own weight on pony’s emotions and cause sadness thus putting them less able-minded for an uprise. Also redirecting their resources to the war taking a bit of time to recover. Making it so he can stay in power longer.

Lighting round theories/questions!

- Season Five, the lost treasure of Griffinstone, Aramasphi? A giant goat tyrant? Sound familiar? Perhaps it was a mistranslation of Grogar? After all, we’re only told about Aramasphi through Grandpa Gruff as though it’s a fairytale, and since Grogar was around a long time ago, so there was bound to be some mistranslations or creative retellings over the years. Plus, Aramaphsi could just be the names the Griffins gave Grogar at that time. And we are told from Twilight that the manual on Griffins was written a long time ago. Further evidence that this hasn’t taken place recently, Gilda denies the very existence of the Idol of Borios. I know Aramasphi dies at the end, but perhaps that was a creative interpretation to make the tale more kid-friendly, while the truth of Grogars reign is far darker. I’m probably spelling everything wrong.

- Where is that Magical Flower from Season nine, growing up is hard to do? It doesn’t have anything to do with Mistmane, does it?

- The Physcotic mind of Cozy Glow. Did you notice that CozyGlow hands down the smartest villain we’ve ever seen in MLP? Her cutie mark is literally a representation on how she can play people like a chess piece. I wonder if she was ever influenced by other con-ponies in the show...hmm... but back to her ingeniousness. You’ve already made a video on how Starlight is The most dangerous villain we’ve ever seen, well Cozy Glow is the craftiest. Not only did she dupe the Main Six, Star light and every pony around her by committing to her character so well and gaining everyone’s sympathy and friendship. Not only did she manage to go through with her evil plan right under their hooves and their noses, but she has been the first villain- EVER- to use friendship against the main six, a near impossible feat. And yet she did it. Not only that, but she’s super quick to think on her feet, using Chancellor Neighsai as a way to get rid of the Young Six and getting rid of Starlight so that she’d be the one in charge, but there was literally one thing that stopped her plan from coming to fruition, the tree of harmony and the fact that it took pity on the young six. If that had never happened, Cozy glow would’ve succeeded with her plan. Wait...what even was her plan? She gets rid of Magic, owns the school of friendship...then what? Continue to make friends with ponies until she can take over Equestria? That’s a pretty weak strategy. Then again, she would be the one with all the magic stored in one little hub, so she could technically use it to threaten ponies into submission. Regardless, I stand by my point.

- So do Scootalos parents know where Zecora is from, they might’ve been there. Then again, they’re more Australian. What even is going on with equestria anyway? The only thing the movie showed us is that beyond equestria, species other than horses can exist, except we know for a fact that Zecora isn’t from equestria, so why does the movie so heavily hint that it’s mostly different species of animals beyond equestria?? So many questions.

- Do you begin to corrode when you’re trapped in stone? I mean, Discord wasn’t in there long enough for us to find out, but we know for a fact that Crysalis, Cozy Glow and Tirek aren’t going anywhere. If so, this is probably the most brutal punishment we’ve seen from equestria. Slowly dying, nothing you can do about it. Wow Celestia and Luna, that’s pretty low.

- Ahuizodal in Season Nine, Daring Doubt, says if he loses another artefact he’d get in so much trouble with the other guardians. Is there a civilisation of them that we don’t know about? What importance do they have on the lore of Equestria?

Be careful what you wish for, there’s way more where that came from. I have so many stupid questions.

Oh some potential theory fodder I wanted to throw out there. Why is it that only Alicorns have these evil alter forms? (excluding the comics) Nightmare Moon, DayBreaker, sort of Midnight Sparkle, and Discord infused Cozy Glow are the only times we've seen this weird alternate powerful evil form in a pony. Is there something about the way Alicorns are formed that inherently make them more vulnerable to this weird evil side, or dark magic use in general? Just an idea that could be fun to explore

Maybe Grogar wanted a thing like this to happen where he would rule all he sees and everyone with bow to him but instead of it being what he wanted it became the My Little Pony series. That might have angered him to the point he tried to change it to what he wanted by freeing Nightmare moon from the moo years later.

Well, when you put it that way, I'd think more of how, when Grogar found all the strewn ponies all over the place, he found it a bit tricky to keep track of. So, he organized the ponies into three groups: earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi. They didn't like being forced to get along with a whole bunch of strangers, even if they were the same race, so, they got resilient. At first, they only stuck with their own community members to form individual "teams" to try to take him on. Which ultimately ended in failure. Now, with all the ponies' tribal markings or clothings

Ide like to question why you didn’t use historical facts on Grogar’s presence from ‘My little pony The Return of Tambelon’ where he first appeared in MLP G1 Along with Gusty.

The wiki explains a lot of key details that sways your theory such as ‘Having determined that the bell worn around his neck was the source of his power, the rebels attempted to steal it from him using a recording of Bray's voice and a costume to lure him out of Tambelon. However, he proved too powerful, and they were forced to flee after he captured another pair of ponies’

He was later defeated by the ringing of an ancient bell that thwarted his own and ended his reign.

Other sources say the Pegasi took over this city of Grogar and reformed it into the first cloud city for Pegasus ponies...

I want you to talk about Twilight then and now, and see how she changed during the show! Also her flowing mane. But you don’t have to, :3

While I would like to believe this, as this is a very well written idea of what Equestrian history looked like.

There is also another fact that has plagued me for quite some time, and that is the story of Hearth's Warming Eve. Which is also the story described by ponies in the show as the "Founding of Equestria" and the characters in it the "Original Founders".

So here's my beef, in the story it is described that ponies migrated from the North down into Equestria following Windigo shenanigans. Now, the ponies described in the story are far from the ponies described in Tirek's sentence. For starters, the Pegasi, Unicorns, and Earth Ponies seemed to be organized, living with connection to one another for trade and cooperation.

But how did Grogar's reign occurred, if the ponies haven't even migrated to Equestria yet?

Because from what I assumed, either Equestria's borders were much smaller and different from present Equestria then, or the North wasn't always plagued by snow, and only became that way after the ponies abandoned it to the Windigos, who I suspect are somewhat responsible for this never ending winter.

So this leaves me with 2 conclusions. Grogar's reign occurred after the founding of Equestria, and Tirek's description of Equestria then can be contributed to a relatively newly budding nation, seen by foreign powers as nothing more than a land filled with scattered farmers and pastures.

Another fact that contributes to this theory, is the Gusty the Great story Twilight was reading. In it, specifically states there is a city called Cloudsdale. Either Cloudsdale has always existed for the Pegasi, or this is the same Cloudsdale as our current one, which is located smack dab in Central Equestria. But an understandable counter to this would be that Cloudsdale simply moved over the ages, as it has been proven to do.

As for my second conclusion, well, the Hearth's Warming tale is bull, well maybe not entirely, but certain elements of the story may have been retrofitted to a fit a more modern audience, as this story has been proven to have different interpretation across different families in Equestria. Kind of like any good ole folk tale, but even folk tale have some truth to it, like the Windigo's existence and Nightmare Moon's return.

This would explain the inconsistent timeline and would put Grogar's reign as you described prior to the founding of Equestria.

Please don’t stop making MLP videos. There are still quite a few unanswered questions.

I have a whole AU kinda thing, with OCs and stuff. I kinda took inspiration, from the Alicorn Civilization theory. Let me explain

Celestia falls sick, but Luna and Twilight both know, neither of them are fit to rule, if Celestia passes. Twilight being too busy, on her adventures and Luna still not being trusted by Equestria. It seems as if, they had no hope, and once Celestia does pass, Equestia is claiming they're doomed.

On the outskirts of Equestria, a civilization falls to ruins, due to a giant creature of dark magic, swallowing this city of Alicorns. Two twin sisters escape, Moonlight Stream and Blazefire. One extremely skilled in flying and military (BlazeFire) and one powerful in any magic you throw at her (Moonlight). They run from their crumbled city, right into the still mourning Equestria.

They wander into Ponyville, meeting Twilight on complete accident. She is astonished by these two Alicorns, that she's never even heard mentioned. She immediately brings them to Canderlot, due to this being a huge break in their problems. Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Spike are all EXTREMELY suspicious of these Alicorns, that practically fell out of the sky. After years of keeping these ponies secret, from the world, they are finally 'ready' and one of them will rule Equestria in Celestia's place, which is temporary. Blazefire was selfish and quite cruel, during their 'training', while Moonlight just let her sister push her around, yet did snap at some points to tell her off, if Blazefire insulted Luna or Twilight in any way.

The choice was uncertain, of course, but Moonlight was crowned temporary Princess of Equestria, leaving an angry Blazefire to lash out, at the coronation. Luna, Twilight, and Moonlight step in, and in the end, Moonlight is forced to strip her sister of her horn and magic, and banish her to the crumbling buildings of their past home.



That's only a tiny portion ! I hope you like the idea.

I have a feeling discord felt bad for all the villains so he stepped into grogar,s shoes and encouraged the villains to go out for revenge wisely

I would love a theory on how Celestia and Luna became princesses. Kind of like a chronology video. If the theory that a pony earns their princesshood by creating a new kind of magic is true, I would love to hear what you think about what kind of magic Celestia and Luna created. I’d also like to hear your thoughts on the royal sisters after the epilogue. Did they leave Equestria all together? Will they ever die? Did they lose their immortality now that they don’t have responsibilities for Equestria?

Hi, I just realized something. What if Discord really was Grogar! What if Gusty the Great took his bell away and the turned him in a being that combines different species for creating other creatures like the bugbear. This would also fit into the timeline because maybe he was very weakend and so he attaked after Star Swirl and the Pillars were gone because he thought Celestia and Luna weren't a real threat to him. I thought maybe you found this interesting.🙂

Grogar is hooves-down my favorite villain in MLP:FIM. My OC has a history with the dark emperor. Also, here’s a question for you: if Grogar was the Father of Monsters and used them as his main military force, why didn’t he bring an army of them to fight Gusty’s rebel forces? They’d be too preoccupied fighting his nightmarish hordes to hold him down long enough for her to take Grogar’s Bewitching Bell.

Is anyone considering the fact that if Gusty The Great banished Grogar as a star constellation, that would have been one thousand years ago. And Celestia banished Luna in the moon thousand years ago, and Luna returned... Grogar should have returned as well. That never happened. And since Grogar is evil, Discord would have freed him, because Discord was around in that time. Grogar was banished before Discord was turned into stone the first time. So Gusty The Great must have cast a spell on Grogar to make him disappear for one thousand years, or something related to that.
P.S: I've watched My Little Pony over and over, so I figured out some things.😉

Honestly with all of Argyl's research, and books that can easily be accessed by sunny, who's to say what we will learn from gen 5 about gen 4? Heck this might have been Hasbro's plan during 2019, when they knew they wouldn't have had the time to go into detail, they could have thought: hey we have a whole new generation coming out in 2 years, let's just wait to explain some stuff then. Honestly we could get way more info about g4 in g5 then we ever got in g4, because it could be research that the mane 5 are doing. So sorry sawtooth more of your theories can still get de bunked.

I THINK it was confirmed Celestia let her own sister out of the moon banishment (don't quote me on that though); regardless, I don't care, because I hope the kind of thought you put into this stuff goes into G5. Looking forward to that, and hope you keep on keeping on in terms of these videos. I'm hopeful that the writers of G5 are inspired by your thought process (or at least think like you), because it would make for some fantastic world building and entertainment. After he was defeated, I think Grogar retreated to try to build a biggar, scarier, army. He used a special ritual to summon a deity to turn ceramic figures into full sized living creatures. That deity was Discord. When the ritual was disrupted, probably by Dusty, Grogar ended up taking Discord's place in the zodiac, and he will be stuck there till someone takes HIS place.

@Brony Notion, I think I can add one to the support of your theory which may have been said...do you recall Discord’s actually wording to the princesses and main six for doing the Grogar disguise but how is also messed it up. He very clearly said that if Princess Twilight could over come the joined forces of Evil then there is nothing to worry about becoming the next Princess of Equestria! You Theory even has a near match pattern as to how Twilight and the Gang defeated the latest villains after there was divide. What will even wet ones curiosity is that you stated that tribes formed after Grogar but we still do not know when the first unison of the Ponies came together under one authority? If there is one thing I am unsure of what you made to be assumed is that yes Grogar was there at the beginning of EQUESTRIA but the ponies three types of ponies only came later to claim the land, hence the windigoes and the conflict of amongst races. No my thought is Grogar’s defeat only came in after that period land claiming amongst the races or as you out tribes. Why...?! because some time Cloudsdale has to have been build and that is way earlier than the struggle for land control. If anything cloudsdale is like a Roman skyfort that logic stays can move but now exists on one place. If anything scattered farms where the earth ponies and the unicorns only came in after... do you see the issue here...the story of land claiming shows is that all races equally came to be at the same time. New search’s for land had to be the reason. Some settlements may have existed we still don’t know what happens to the original Alicorns if any but that war against Grogar has to have sparked a new monarch of royals and since was a unicorn may have married into the Pegasus. Princess Cadences origin as an alicorn is never properly explain. Still I would fish for more time line theories to properly explain. Yet I still think that this is a good theory.

The thing is... grogar could be been turned into discord and he could've lost his memories instead of inpersinating. So it was like a past life to him. Which his magic was changed but he still was able to have the magic. Just not use it as it is now foreign to him. I hope this makes sense.

My theory is that Discord was actually a pony long time ago. Grey colored pony named Bray, Grogars minion and servant. After being feed up with Grogar, Bray secretly used The Bewitching Bell, took all of the magic within it and then fled.

So your saying the story is pretty much like this:

A long time ago there was a powerful beast named grogar who found a land of pasture and farms then declare himself the emperor of what he saw grogar created monsters to spread darkness and fear the ponies living in there started forming their tribes to fight grogar each tribe has its on plans until a brave young unicorn named gusty convince the unicorns to teamed up with other tribes and first tried to convinced the pegasi city by going there on hoof to offer alliance grogar seeing this wanted to prevent the unicorns from going to the pegasi city because he knew that one tribe has great magic already and if three tribes combined the magic of their unity may be able to defeat him so he fought the unicorn warriors the unicorns warriors form a rainbow form that weave into one and shrine down but grogar is still unbeatable the Pegasus see the fight and help the unicorn warriors, the unicorn warriors hearing wings flapping seeing the pegasi wanting to help filled them with hope, gusty sees a talisman that is on grogar 's neck and told the others to attack with their full might, grogar a little weakeand by the attack give gusty the opportunity to grab the bell containing his power, weakeand due to not having his bell gusty banished him into the stars and keep the bell in the mount everhoof with a protection spell, together the pegasi and unicorns met up with the earth ponies and form their deal although the relationship was unstable, this was the first allieance between the three tribes

Interesting, but ponies first entered what would become Equestria in response to the first near destruction caused by the Windigos. While it could be that the reappearance is what totally united the tribes that reappearance would have had to have happened within two generations so the correlation could be made. We could suppose, however, that ponykind unknowingly entered Grogar's domain but he was too busy lording over all the other creatures to take much notice and smacking them down when they did resist.


Unfortunately the writers had a tendency to cluster nearly everything around " a thousand years ago" meaning that, if we take Evey line as immutable, as Starswirl sent Clover the clever out on the events leading to the first Hearthswarming all of equestrian history from just prior to the end of the warring tribes period to the return of Nightmare Moon spans no more than 1100 years!
But, if we play a little loose with stated time frames (and really, as aired timeline there does not seem to be enough time between Discord's defeat and Nightmare Moon for Luna to have grown that bitter) while assuming in Twilight's play on Hearthswarming it was a little fangirl insertion that Starswirl was Clover's mentor we can stretch things out to fit better.


Anyway.... perhaps the first unification already happened, but at this time the three tribes were still separate but living more or less in peace with mutual aid pacts in place but not yet a single entity. We can't know if resistance to Grogar was happening or proposed by Gusty but in either case flight was not an option to reach the Pegisi and teleporting would have drawn unwanted attention, so on foot it must have been.
I also don't think the war ended on the mountain path to Cloudsdale (and none such seems to exist today). But, rather that incident ended in defeat, the mountain being destroyed and the great cloud city sent adrift. But in exerting such great magic Grogar needed to call upon his bell thus revealing the source of his power and so the now retreating but united armies of the Pegisi and Unicorns made for Earth Pony lands with a plan.
It then goes more or less as described in the video, We move from the Allied Tribes of Equestria to the Confederated Tribes of Equestria and begin the monster wars as well as a period of expansion where the Griphon Kingdom is contacted and integrated along with many other Equid societies (hence why frequent summits are held, Celestia is often meeting other royal deligations, and Harshwhiny mentions meeting with various royal titles) . But these are other stories (including the lost genealogy of Cadence and why it is her right to rule the Crystal Empire).

hey! can you make another video about Equestrian time? now that the series ended, we have more evidence. as said in the last episode, the council of friendship meets once a moon. according to your calculation from the video you posted 5 years ago, a moon is about as long as a week. but it seems unrealistic for a group of friends who live so far away from each other to meet on weekly basis. not saying it's impossible- after all most of them were teachers while already having a full time job but still. Also, we know that monthes exist, as a synonym for moon or not- "three months of winter coolness and awesome holidays" (winter wrap up). I would also love to know how they count years- like the year now is 2020 or 5780 by judaism. what their year is in the first episode? and in the last one?

Coming back to this I've just realized how structured the mlp storyline actually is, like holy shit there's actually lore??? And the history is actually well thought out??? To my mom this is a kids TV show, what happened to thoughtless cartoons you say, nah we don't do that here-

And yes, I know it was Discord disguised as Grogar who said this, but we assume Discord wanted to do an accurate portrayal of Grogar. Thus, he acted the way he thought Grogar would act

This reminds me of the 'chasm of revolution' problem in empires. If you want to extract wealth from your empire, you either need to have some natural resource you can extract and trade to outside, or start providing infrastructure and services to your citizens so that they become more prosperous and thus generate wealth. If they are prosperous enough, revolution isn't worth it, but if you only give them some resources and some infrastructure, they often get organized/wealthy/educated enough to revolt.

So it could be that they did not organize in order to oppose them, but he organized them in order to have something worth ruling, but that prosperity also funded their revolution.

According to an official word from miss Loren Faust: Celestia herself freed her own sister from the moon, not Grogar.

In Frenemies, Grogar seeks to recover his stolen Bewitching Bell, and sets out on a mission to locate it while ordering his allies to learn to cooperate. Upon their return he is pleased that they have become a team, but frustrated by their apparent failure to retrieve the bell, unaware that they did retrieve it and have concealed it from him.
In The Summer Sun Setback, Grogar leaves his lair to search for another source of power to defeat Twilight and her friends, still believing his allies failed to retrieve the Bewitching Bell. While he is gone, his allies sneak into the Canterlot Archives and steal a book so they can gain information on how to use the Bewitching Bell themselves. When Grogar returns, he revealed to them that he has successfully located a new source of power and will set out the next day to retrieve it. After he leaves, his allies plan to unlock the power of the Bewitching Bell soon before he returns again.

With the fact they hyped Grogar up as the 'Father Of Monsters', that he was super powerful and that he existed long before equestria to the point of him being a legend during Tirek's time... I really wanted them to reveal him to be the one who created Discord. Discord, the ultimate 'monster' who has now become a hero and who seemed insistent on teaching Equestria, and the mane six especially, how to win without his power. My theory was that Grogar would grow in power and eventually reveal himself, with the reveal of Discord's past and his loyalty to the mane six being the final arc of his character. Him defending his friends against his potentially abusive 'father' but showing obvious fear towards him? Him being afraid and belittled by Grogar for becoming weak, something that would have a deep affect on him? Letting us and the mane six finally see who he was before he took over Equestria: a scared, abused child whose only mentor and possibly closest thing he had to a 'friend' saw him as a magical accident gone wrong? What if he took a near-fatal shot from Grogar for the mane six, but unlike with Sombra, he knew he might not have survived but needed them to know they could fight without him before he took the risk. Or if he managed to overpower Grogar and was the only thing that could help the mane six defeat him? How powerful would that have been?

perhaps there were more chapters to that book. on their way, they failed, beaten by Grogar- They then looked for the earth ponies, and asked for their aid in the fight- and the Pegasi- who saw the scuffle nearby, came to help too.

@ Sawtooth Wave I love your videos a lot and I am curious to know if you have seen the Grogar: a hearth’s warming horror story and Apple Valley: a hearth’s warming horror story done by Scribbler productions. If so what did you think?

A good first (?) post for 2020, especially since MLP is out and everything is done (besides the comics). Plus honestly I think there's definitely still a lot of stuff to explore about Grogar and the other lore MLP hasn't fully revealed. ^^
Although I think Lauren Faust lately insisted that Celestia knew or caused Nightmare Moon's escape based on her quote of knowing Twilight would save the day, but that can be taken with a grain of salt probably since the show has changed a lot since then.

Grogar was in the earlier generations, like gen 1 or 2 or something. You should take some time to watch those other gens before mlp; friendship is magic came!

6:50 I thought his quote was just a cheeky reference to G1 (the last time we saw Grogar), and was half-expecting this video to suddenly turn into a crossover theory.

Question: how would the tribes forming and all that theory tie in with Clestia and Luna becoming the rulers of Equestria, and where would, if there is one, the alicorn civilization be. And don't forget that if there was, that the alicorns could've heard about what happened with Grogar's claimed territories and the forming tribes.

So this raises a theory that I just came up with: that a unicorn pony and a pegasus pony fell in love and had Celestia and Luna. Work in progress theory, obviously, but still wanted to point a few things out.

or instead of strewed out ponies specifically finding others of their kind and forming 3 specifically segregated tribes, what if Grogar forced them to? Why would Every Single Unicorn and Every Single Earth Pony and Every Single Pegasi decide to go find others like them instead of just joining together with those closest to them? Maybe the collaboration between the 3 tribes was organized by Grogar, including the fact that Pegasi were mostly military (say he wanted to use them to conquer other lands)?

Could just be hyperbole. Tirek could just be saying that the recently organized conglomeration of ponies just after the first Hearth's Warming was disorganized and hadn't reached its potential, yet.
They hadn't established a real government, yet, because they had only just decided not to hate each other. He might've seen this as an opportunity, and took control of the ponies. They'd just moved to a new land, they just got through the second magical winter in a short time, and they were only just starting to form a tentative bond that was likely still fragile. There were no cities, yet, because they'd only just arrived. It would likely look like "nothing but a bunch of farms and pastures".

Could you please do 'Where were the pillars when Celestia and Luna had to banish Discord?' It's been a question I've had for a while and it's still pretty unanswered.

I still haven't watched the last EQG special, I can't be ready to move on. Also the season 9 finale was a bummer.

Mlp has four generations. In the first gen, gen1, grogar was a villain along with tirek, that’s why he still existed even though he wasn’t actually in gen4. So sawtooth is very right, grogar still existed even though he didn’t appear in gen4. He is historical and very old, since he was there since the beginning of literally the first 19-something (I think like 1997 or something) Mlp show! I hope this clarifies a bit!

If you didn't have an imbalance, a difference in the matrix, the power would be flat. Imbalances cause movement, relationships and interactions, from a social or physics perspective.

My theory/story:

Grogar was a tyrannical ruler. Gusty, sick of Grogar's rule as a self-proclaimed emperor, tried to get help from her own kind - the unicorns. But, quickly learning even the combined magic of the unicorns wouldn't be enough, she travelled towards the city in the clouds to find the ponies who used their magic to grow wings to his in the sky from Grogar to seek their help and alliance. But, Grogar, through his all-seeing crystal ball, learned of Gusty's efforts and cut them off. The unicorns were, as Gusty realized, unable to stop him alone. But, seeing the efforts they put in fighting against him, the pegasi were moved and joined in their fight against the evil goat. And, in the nearby farmlands, so were the earth ponies. With the unicorns magic, the pegasi's courage, and the strength of the earth ponies, they were able to detain the powerful goat. But, seeing that Grogar could simply take the power from all three types of ponies with his magical bell, Gusty devised a plan to steal the bell and rob Grogar of his power.

With the combined strengths of the ponies, Gusty was successful in stealing Grogars bell and used it against him to steal the power he had robbed. Powerless, the ponies had successfully stopped and imprisoned the evil Grogar. However, Gusty still feared the power sealed within the bell. She had considered releasing it, but she worried another pony or creature would become as drunk or power-hungry as Grogar had been. Instead, Gusty, with the help of her pony allies, took the bell to a tall and frozen mountain where few would ever choose to or be able to venture. Grogar was the Father of Monsters, and the Emperor of Equestria. Seeing as it is implied that he created atleast some of Equestria's monsters, could he have possibly created the Windigos, the very beasts that are implied to have led to Equestria's colonization? (The blizzard that drove ponies to Equestria had to come from something after all...)

After all, if Grogar started his rule shortly after Equestria was colonized, whose to say that he didnt manipulate the tribes of ponies to move to Equestria in order to have an easier way to control them...

If I may, I would also like to share the way that I see the events of MLP's timeline:

1. Grogar creates the Bewitching Bell and starts using it to improve his own power. Grogar's first monsters, the Windigos, are created.

2. Pony-kind moves from their original home to Equestria after their land is frozen over. (Presumably by the emergence of the Windigos)

3. Grogar declares himself Emperor of the newly arriving ponies. With his Bell, he is able to secure such a claim. Many of Equestria's monsters are created around this time. Tartarus is formed; either as a dungeon for revolutionists to Grogar's rule or as a place to store his monsters. Or both.

4. The earliest possible point of origin for Discord is here. The rest of the timeline will follow with the idea that Discord was either created or summoned by Grogar. Grogar's Unbreakable Bell is cracked upon the creation/summoning of Discord due to the sheer amount of power Discord has.

5. The Crystal Empire is formed in the Frozen North as a way for ponies to escape Grogar. Grogar falls before he can invade there.

6. Grogar is eventually vanquished by Gusty the Great. Assuming that Gusty lived long after Grogar, it is possible that she was also the one who ended up sealing the 'Darkness' within the Well of Shade. Discord escapes into his realm to grow his own power and waits for the perfect opportunity to return.

7. Starswirl becomes a famous figure around this time. It is also possible that he helped Gusty defeat Grogar.

8. Celestia and Luna are born sometime after Grogar's defeat.

9. After Grogar's defeat, without a tyrant to fight, Equestria slowly devolves into anarchy, leading to the return of the Windigos.

10. The later events of the Hearth's Warming Play occur. Equestria, as a secure and legitimate nation, rises. The throne is passed to either Gusty or the Royal Sisters. If it is passed to Gusty, it is assumed that she either stepped down or perished shortly after her rule began. Either way, the Royal Sisters now rule Equestria.

11. Lord Tirek invades Equestria. He is sealed within Tartarus as its very first prisoner under the Royal Sisters' rule.

12. The Pillars' various origins occur (excluding Starswirl's origin for obvious reasons).

13. Stygian brings the Pillars together to defeat the Sirens. The Pillars become the First Protectors of Equestria. Shortly after this time, Starswirl creates the EQG Portal as a way to monitor the Sirens.

14. Stygian is driven away from the Pillars, and finds the 'Darkness'; the Pony of Shadows rises.

15. The Pillars banish themselves to defeat Stygian. Before they do so, they plant the Seed of Harmony.

16. Due to the chaos formed from the Pillar's dissapearance, Discord returns and rises to power. His rule is the second-longest that a tyrant has ever had in Equestria, second to only Grogar's reign.

17. The Seed of Harmony grows into the Tree of Harmony. The Elements are formed. Rumors of these magical artifacts start spreading.

18. Discord is defeated by the Royal Sisters after they discover the Elements of Harmony.

19. King Sombra rises. Upon his defeat, the Crystal Empire falls.

20. Luna becomes Nightmare Moon. She is banished to the Moon.

21. Celestia's millenia-long rule begins.

22. 1000 years later, the events of the Series Premiere occur. The second Protectors of Equestria are unofficially formed.

Fear from what I see. Gives him power I think he somehow made pony -kind. fight in the first point similar to cozy chrystalis and tireks plan to get the windigos and make them fear it and blame eachother eventually it would get so bad that they would have any hope dashed. But then he would be getting power and his plan he would stop the windigos and the ponies in his vision would do anything and wars can last for a long time. For example the 7 years war not in mlp
But. Gusty brought together groups of pegasi and unicorn and trying to meet one and other and figure out a plan.I think yes he did see the unicorns and pegasi a chance for possible hope so he went there to host a little surprise as every filly in cloudsdale fled all of the pegasi warriors unicorn warriors and maybe even earth ponies saw and started to help. As they were fighting with grogar gusty saw a chance to take the bell with power in it.
And when he realized it was already too late.
Gusty had ran away and hidden the bell in the cave/mountain and casted a spell around it at that time nopony could break. Without grogars magic he was easily defeated to the stars and nopony had seen him for a millennia.

I'm going to have to rewatch the original series show eps to see how badly they screwd up this history, not ot mention that it was Humans that helped the ponies at that time. Edit: The epsodes Rescue from Midnight Castle part 1 and 2 are the first two eps to start the whole series though why they are on disk four of the complete series dvd I have no clue. And at that time, all three tribes were living and working together. And it was humans that helped with the situation. Also, the name Equestria was just used, the land was there long before it was called that and various areas of the ponies land had different names yet they clearly were all under one: the ponies of all tribes.
