Ive been thinking about Build A Problem a lot like everyone else here. After listening to it a couple times and in different states of mind, the weight of this album has really set in for me. It all just feels so alive and organic. What resonates with me most is its focus on closure in life - not just for love but for growing up. Thinking of those subjects really weighs me down at times. That feeling of being lost. I’ve found watching this to be even chilling at times. Yet the way it can loop back is perfect… like there’s solace in knowing an emptiness won’t last forever. Closure in knowing we’re not alone. So yeah, thanks for this beautiful experience.

This album felt more mellow than anything I'd ever heard from dodie before. The songs are so quiet it feels like I have to carefully listen to someone who's whispering their vulnerable secrets to me. I wondered why that choice was made and now I feel like I understand because I have also cried and sung and cried and written out my scattered thoughts.

Imagining dodie singing these songs in 1.75 speed to get the visuals to be in slow motion is a joy lol

Had to listen to this again tonight. The story it paints is beautifully told but deeply unsettling. Dodie opens with her love ballads, four or five of them in a row. Then the mood shifts, and before you know it, she's telling you she's lying -- that she's never been in love -- that whatever passions she experienced in youth have departed her, and she's struggling to find meaning in life. Most disturbing of all, she only appears in the driver's seat twice across this entire album. The first time, it feels like a small triumph -- but the second time, it feels like a curse. She isn't allowed so much as forced to be the central agent of her destiny, in a car filling up with smoke, going nowhere. This is a beautiful and disturbing masterpiece.

I always love the look back to the camera at the end of cool girl, feels a little chilling, or like a shift in understanding of the scene - previously it feels like a peek into these two characters lives, but that look back to the camera, that acknowledgement of the viewer disrupts that idea of separateness. There's a lot you could read into that, but it's a really cool shot either way.

Dodie ugh im gonna sound old- but ive been watching every video you uploaded since you were sixteen and i was fourteen. Literally all i want to say- nothing, fucking nothing is your fault. Not the trauma, not the depersenolasation and the other crap. Says a girl with CPTSD, Endometriosis and Fibromyalgia, i am now in the middle of the worst pain i had physically for the last month, and your amazing always healing me voice made it go. So i can finally at 4 am go to bed after 5 hours nothing has helped. Thank you for being the most special girl. And my favorit artist for years. Love you so much, Rotem (from Israel) ❤️‍🩹 (btw i was so impressed to see a women eat fucking cake and sweets and McDonalds on youtube, it really inspired my eating disorder that i can also eat and be loved. You do such important things. Love yourself a little more each day, at least for us if not for you, as the English say- fake it till you make it. And you WILL make it. Trust me).

I just want to say how much I love this album. It is great. Sometimes it's complex but it's never complicated. Sometimes it's simple, but it doesn't become boring. It is a masterpiece. It also is the first album I bought myself (I'm sixteen so I never really bought albums with my own money before). Also the visuals are so beautiful and go along with the songs perfectly.

i am forever grateful to dodie for releasing ‘sorry’ exactly the week when everything i have been fucking up for a long time made itself known in an overwhelming way, i.e., reached its breaking point.

‘sorry’ is the sickly feeling of guilt that follows you for something you’ve done against a person whom you love v much. it carries the magnitude of your wrongdoing. and the inauthenticity of your actions, which affects you, as much as it affects the other person.

I like to imagine "When" as a song from a broadway musical!

The song before is about her realising her problem but coping with it by either avoidance, denial or genuine optimism... and then she self destructs and sleeps with someone already in a relationship ahhh the whole album has such good storytelling, and kinda gives me fleabag vibes

Hate Myself resonated way too hard as someone with borderline.
I lock away a lot of the thoughts and feelings that cross my mind when I'm involved with someone because I know I assume the worst to a horrible level and it just isn't true, there's no reason to hurt or worry someone with telling them I hate when they aren't constantly free to give me full attention because I think any moment away from me is the moment they realize they're happier without me, or that seeing them with other people makes me fear that they'll talk about me and realize they don't like me at all. I thought just bearing it and knowing it was fake and would pass was healthy, but I've been seeing someone who confessed they think I ask them to bare all their pain to me while I close up and don't lean on them at all- and they know my feelings aren't their fault, but they want to know what scares and hurts me and how I think so they can be there for me, too. It's terrifying in a way I didn't even recognize.
These aren't feelings I ever expect to see just openly talked about, regardless of if it's intended to be about BPD or not.. but I sobbed to this song. It put those emotions into words far better than I ever could and made me feel seen.

I'm really sorry, I know Rainbow is about the LGBTQ+ community and I'm not trying to take that away from you guys because that's awesome, but it makes me cry every time I listen because it reminds me of my experience growing up autistic and finding out later in life and learning to accept myself.
