The actual castle sitting on top of it looks fine, it matches the color of Twilight and that giant version of her cutie mark is okay because her mark represents her friendship with the other five. Whoever designed this castle/tree hybrid was on something, people probably wouldn't have complained as much if it didn't look like the tree was trying to strangle the actual castle, I mean sheesh.

Seriously, since Twilight became a princess: 2 castles, 1 car and a whole new mlp toy line (crystal princess celebration),were released (and that´s only the begining)
And in the show, I agree with you +Alisha Dee and a big examlpe of it is that when the mane six sent Twilight home (S4 EP2) They started messing everything up and saying that they shouldn´t have sent Twilight back.
At that point Everything was like "Man, twilight is awesome and without her, the other five are nothing" (or at last that´s how I felt)

@Alisha Dee I actually thought Twilight was becoming more princess-like over the first 3 seasons so I don't have a problem with it.

They did an incredible job keeping her equal with her friends in the seasons since anyway, her personality is just like that regardless of status, she views others as equal.

I also loved how they departed from the usual formula for the season 3 finale and the songs were very catchy and beautiful.

Remember she was a pony from Canterlot and unlike most ponies from there she wasn't ever snobby and never acted like a "special snowflake" even though she was one. It makes her all the more admirable having so much ability and not bragging about it.

Plus she still gets spells wrong and makes mistakes even as a princess so it's not like she's boring or anything.

Also think of it this way - the mane six has 3 ponies with wings and 3 without :P

Plus they did say at the end of Season 4 "what is the Princess of Friendship without her friends", plus when she became an alicorn her friends' elements actually launched the magic at her, AND the cutie map sometimes doesn't even send her, it sends some of her friends.

So actually I think Princess of Friendship is really a shared title, all Twilight's powers come from - and are shared with- her friends. The rainbow powers, the glowing cutie mark map message thingy, it's all intertwined with them. She may have the wings but all of them have a bit of alicorn in them after Twilight gained her status/

I do agree. making Twilight an alicorn did mess up the balance. I hope the writers realize that and pay some attention to the other five. maybe add anthor unicorn.make them learn lessons and actually remember them so they don't make the same mistakes!!! seriously, look at AJ. she is way too stubborn and she learned so many times to admit she is wrong. but she keeps making the same mistakes. oh, every lesson wasn't about admitting that she was wrong! They were about things like accepting help or not treating your younger siblings like helpless babies! No wonder she keeps making mistakes about stubbornness!

I don't even understand the reasoning behind Twilight becoming an alicorn because although she might be magical and understanding of friendship but... still? Celestia and Luna are both immortal with so much power and it just seems right that they should be the singular rulers of Equestria. Having Cadence and Twilight as alicorns to me is pointless (the crystal empire bullshit) and why Twilight became an alicorn doesn't add up to me. (Also she's apparently nothing without her friends yet Hasbro tries to make her seem better than them)


Oh and also, since Twilight became an alicorn, Hasbro seems determined to find the perfect arch-nemesis for Twilight. Not the Mane 6's enemy of course because TWILIGHT is better than her friends and the Mane 6 are just there to be there, not to actually play a part in the show, right? Sunset Shimmer (her name is the opposite of Twilight Sparkle?) and Starlight Glimmer (her name is similar to Twilight). They both were thirsty for the power that TWILIGHT had. 


The Mane 6 has hardly had any character development since S4. In season 1 we were introduced to Fluttershy's talent of sewing, Pinkie's ability to play 10 instruments at the same time, Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom, etc. Hasbro doesn't even bother to develop these ideas and instead just repeats them? The finale for Season 4 was literally just a showdown between Twilight and Tirek to try to force us into liking how badass Twilight is. It actually didn't have anything to do with the plot. Not to mention the rest of her friends were just sitting inside their bubble prisons, not really contributing until the end when they got rainbowfied. 


I'm also sad that the Elements of Harmony are gone, that was one of the things that held the Mane 6 together. And it's gone because of the Rainbow Power. The Rainbow Power didn't even need to happen too, it was for the merchandise, again. The Element Tree was just used to get rid of the Elements and the character development of the Mane 6.

So very much agreed. I'm actually glad this topic is still comes up. And although Creshosk has valid points and has revealed things of interest to me, I think there’s still much more to consider.


Yes, Hasbro needs to sell things, but rather than let the writers/show staff make believable characters/ect. that people would more readily buy and let the marketing department get to work on derived toys, Hasbro forced a toy into the show that was undesired by the audience because it did great damage to the story in progress (i.e. the workflow was forced backwards). Thus we have Twilicorn and her crystal castle out of virtually nowhere in the midst of a town founded by earth ponies, (not a pony from the well off capital of Canterlot). And yes, toys need to be ready to go when the show airs, but even the events, designs, and stories in the show are ready to go many months before airing, so that’s not really a valid excuse. :/


I honestly think the season 2 finale could’ve made much more impact than it did had Cadence been a pegasus. :) The “power of love,” saved them, but it had alicorn love, and we already know alicorns possess a power on the order of magnitude of 1/4 of the pony population (which happens to include a former god of chaos). The idea that Chrysalis could be easily defeated by the power of another alicorn + unicorn team after expending the needed energy to defeat Celestia is simple. Had she been defeated by a unicorn + pegasus team, then one could easily conclude it was more than raw power, the actual power of love. That would’ve been awesome. ^^ But now we have more status-quo demigod type alicorn princess rather than any unicorn, pegasus, or earth pony princesses.


Though Twilight was “shoehorned into every episode in the first season,” the direction of season 2 clearly spread further outward. Why attention suddenly went backward to Twilight is beyond me. Her new status as a super powerful being in season 4 was left virtually unaddressed and unnoticed with Twilight Time being the awkwardly painful exception. Thus during season 4 there was no sense of fulfillment and the main characters were reduced to their stereotypes. In all honestly, given what Creshosk has said about Lauren’s original ideas, I can’t help but think the whole series could’ve actually been better! :O


What’s more, I find it quite hilarious that “timewise” according to the series, since Celestia recounts as if the last or so Summer Sun Celebration was absent of Luna, and we observe two winters, it only took less than two pony years for Twilight to go from an anti-social bookworm unicorn to the power alicorn princess of friendship. XD

+Alisha Dee In my opinion, with a very large ensemble show like this -- you need to have one main character to be the center star of the show. I know it sounds unfair and everyone will have their favorite character but, I think for an ensemble show to do well, it needs to have a single heart, if that makes sense. Let's take a non-cartoon show like Lost for example. ... The story was always about Jack ... despite the rest of the people on the Island. ... Just like with MLP, when Twilight became an alicorn, I was floored because I knew, then, that the show was always about Twilight. I feel like a story needs to have one central character that goes through quite a lot of changes. That's not to say that one character is better than another or that a different character can't have growth and change, too ... but for the sake of story only. To me, it makes the story they're trying to tell much more deep and, at the same time, easier to follow.

Warning this may be a spoiler for those of you not caught up! Same as Alisha Dee, I also thought 2 unicorns (Twilight and Rarity) 2 pegasi (Rainbow and Fluttershy) and 2 earthponies (Applejack and Pinkiepie) was really cool and showed equality. But (here's where this may be a spoiler) now that Starlight Glimmer is learning from Princess Twilight, she may be the unicorn to make it equal. Even with Twilight being an alicorn princess now.

Special? She is the center of everything! Out of the mane six, it is always Twilight, Twilight, Twilight. Since she became an alicorn, the other five are like any other ponies in Equestria. Background decoration. But even before Twilight became an alicorn I felt she was getting the spotlight more than the others of the mane 6.

Yeah it just made her the mary sue, what makes her better? Why does she deserve it more? Like I feel like they all had to work hard to get somewhere but Twilight basically got everything given to her. I don't particularly mind it because the show was very twilight focused to begin with. Obviously the first episode has to be about how twilight met her friends, but there's also the element of magic being "the most important", it being a crown instead of a necklace, etc. Twilight has always been center stage, her becoming an alicorn and a princess by extension just made it more obvious

Pinkie Pie was flanderized in Vanilli, when she kept degrading Fluttershy.  Most Wanted is a bastardization to the established lore of cutie marks.  And since we're bringing Crystal Heart Spell to the table, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Trixie hold Twilight's triumph in Magic Duel against Twi herself in the chapter book in question? If so, then with CHS is canon I sincerely hope you're familiar with the term "plot hole."

Look, all I'm trying to say is that canon or not, these are still writing problems.  Even if it is canon, a plot hole is still a plot hole, and inconsistency is still inconsistency.  Arguing who the writer is or whether it's canon or not is, again, entirely pointless.

The only thing I'm wondering, and I doubt any analysis can answer, is whether the alicorns mentioned to in The Journal of the Two Sisters are as ethereal, wise, powerful and  mysterious as alicorns used to be seen, or if as the TV show and chapter books portray them, mere unicorn, pegasus or earth ponies playing royal figure.  We might never know, but I just needed to throw that out there.

I wouldn't say that the comics have gotten "iffy". I would say they're just as valid as the chapter books. Considering the fact that they were the first to expand on Luna's personality post Nightmare Night, and have given King Sombra of all ponies a backstory. And I remember reading somewhere that Meghan McCarthy (or at least someone on the show staff) has told someone who asked about Cadence's heritage to read the first chapter book released. Adding to that, Maud Pie was mentioned in the 2nd chapter book (albeit not by name). So it would be a safe bet that at least the show staff considers the chapter books to be canon. And I wouldn't be too surprised if they held the same view with the comics. What most likely wouldn't be canon is at least some of the details described in them. Which would be a phenomenon known as "Broad Strokes". (Possibly one of the biggest exapmles I can think of regarding "broad strokes" would be the Fiendship is Magic comics centered around The Dazzlings. It happened, but the events seen in it are most likely an inaccurate account given how The Dazzlings and Star Swirl are depicted in it.)

As much as I like the comics' idea of why Princess Luna's aesthetics changed from a light blue mane to one being the starlit night, added lore is not automatically canon.  Moreover, though I have no evidence against the comics being canon, there are certainly several implications they aren't.
This problem particularly concerns characters.  King Sombra's backstory, which you just mentioned to, is a perfect example.  Fiendship issue 1 goes against everything King Sombra always was as both a character and a concept.  Jeremy Whitley apparently failed to realize that Sombra already had a character: ambitious, ruthless, and insidious.  Furthermore, people with the idea that Sombra was an adorable colt with a dark destiny he initially feared but then willingly followed either didn't watch the S3 premiere, or did but didn't look close enough at Sombra to catch the attributive traits that were actually there.
I can honestly wager that character problems and bastardized elements like this are why most people don't even care for the comics.

In all honesty, I fail to see how Fiendship is Magic #1 goes completely against Sombra as a character and concept. Not every villain is inherently evil from the get-go. So of course a villain won't seem as insidious, ambitious, or ruthless, in events preceding their first appearance. Not to mention, Sombra was criticized by many fans for being so flat in comparison to other villains. Particularly in his characterization and his presence, despite hints of something deeper. His lack of presence and characterization isn't helped by him having very little dialogue in the two-parter Season 3 premiere, or having any meaningful interaction with any characters. Seeming more like a malevolent force instead of a character in his own right. Soon after Fiendship is Magic #1 hit the shelves, many fans warmed up to Sombra.


I also don't know where people get the idea that the comics aren't canon in the first place. You say that there are implications that they aren't. Yet through all of my digging, I have found nothing major that the comics have the outright contradicts the show. Not to mention, both Andy Price and Jim Miller have said that the comics are indeed canon unless Hasbro themselves say otherwise. And last I checked, no one from Hasbro has ever said the comics aren't canon.

Look, you can suck up to the writers all you want.  I don't care what those two hacks say, inconsistency is still inconsistency.  You may as well tell me Warner Bros. produced The Looney Tunes Show, and see if it afffects my view of the characters.  Sombra was a conqueror and a mastermind as a character; as a concept, he was set up to represent darkness and the fear thereof.  The instant King Sombra being a raging dick-bastard who rejected help when offered it becomes fact, is when he loses all chances of having the desired effect.  Say what you will about him being a non-presence in the S3 premiere, but what little imagination McCarthy invested when handling him is better than a pathetic attempt to make me feel sorry for a villain who practically never did anything.

Especially since the showrunners at Media DHX and the comic writers at IDW work with each other to ensure continuity is maintained. Anyone who is telling themselves otherwise is only fooling themselves.

I'm not saying Sombra can't.  I wouldn't care if they made him like Christopher-fucking-Lee—actually, that'd be awesome! Anyway, what you said doesn't give them an excuse to portray a fierce conqueror who knew dark magic as a total dickhead.  Sombra had a choice between turning evil because the voice of someone he never even knew told him to, or letting the only real friends he had help him.  If he was smart enough to know how to hold an empire, then he was smart enough to know he could have let Hope and Amoré help him.  But he willingly turned against them.  If the writers are going to make a tragic backstory for Sombra, the least they could have done was get the tragic aspect right.  But they failed at that as well, and that's why the comic deserves the asshole I enjoy tearing it.

Wrap your mind around this: the comics showed that NMM's banishment didn't separate the Regal Sisters as far from each other as the show let on; they have an interdimensional mirror, which was never mentioned in the TV series and for some reason none of the writers bothered capitalizing on; among other implications against the comics being canon.  So don't sit there and tell me IDW is working with DHX to maintain continuity, because that's a load of crap!

I don't know where you're getting the idea about there being a time-travelling mirror in the comics that's not mentioned on the show from. The only magical mirror in the comics that I can think of is a dimension-hopping mirror similar to, yet different from, the one seen in Equestria Girls. (As a matter of fact, the mirror in question is the prototype of the mirror seen in Equestria Girls.) The Luna that Celestia was seeing every time she stepped through that mirror is explicitly different from the one she reluctantly imprisoned on the moon. And again, I'm not seeing how there are "implications against the comics being canon". If anything there's far more implications that they are canon than there is that they aren't. (Barring of course Word of God, which has said that they are.) The Shadowbolts seen in Friendship Games for starters were originally mentioned in the Equestria Girls prequel comic by IDW. Babs's Cutie Mark was also foreshadowed in Friends Forever 13, and in Bloom & Gloom, her Cutie Mark turns out to be a pair of scissors.

That doesn't mean that they're non-canon. It only means that the comics are canonical side-stories. The same thing literally happens with any other popular show, movie, or game that has tie-in media. You can't expect many fans to enjoy the shows, movies, or games in question if the tie-in media is made a major part of the story of the show/movie/game. (Or at least a show/story/game if it's episodic.) Otherwise, writers will run the risk of their fanbase losing track of how the story unfolds in the show/movie/game. I don't think it has to do much with their mane. As if you watched the show beginning to end, Luna's mane wasn't all shiny and wavy as Celestia's. Until later on in the show her mane has become like Celestia's. "But why isn't Cadence or Twilight's mane like theirsss???" You may ask. It may be because they weren't old enough or (which I think is what caused it) their magic isn't as strong as the two sisters. Celestia and Luna have been around much longer and have a more strong and powerful magic. Cadence was only transformed for as long as when Twilight was a filly. Twilight only became an alicorn at the end of Season 4. Their magic can only contain so much.

So their mane's aren't much of a big clue why they were naturally born alicorns.

the faustacorn isn't in the show and, I don't think that chrysalis is an alicorn because of one thing, rarity wasn't accounted for as an alicorn when she had those wings that twilight had made which brings me to the point, chrysalis doesn't have pegasus wings and thus, is not an alicorn.

Lauren isn't in the show, and makes her non-alicorn. Chrysalis by the way, as you said, is an alicorn. There is a theory where she actually is the lost princess of Crystal Empire, and made me thought a bit. What if she was the ruler, until she got punished, sent away and replaced by Cadence? She must've done something that caused her appearance, and created the changelings. Maybe Celestia's mother, if she is born alicorn, sent away Chrysalis for creating something she wasn't allowed to create. Then she came back, as a pony. She must've talked to her to see her appearance, hear her voice and to send her down. And that maybe was a week before the wedding. This is at least my theory.

In it, Celestia brings Sunset to what is essentially the Mirror of Erised (not sure if it's the same one that connects to the human world), and in it Sunset sees herself as an alicorn. Sunset became obsessed with the idea of ascending to alicorn status, and Celestia ended her studies because Sunset was focusing too much on that and not on continuing her studies.

@StewiebossFTW Well, I think Sunset might have gained some alicorn-ness in the human world and Chrysalis is NOT a pony. She is actually a love feeding pony-oid parasite from Celestia knows where. Sunset definetly had the potential and even grew wings in the "My Past is Not Today" clip, which might symbolize an alicorn transformation. This is countered with the EXTREMELY low odds of her returning to Equestria. I don't know if she'll actually be seen as an alicorn, but the most I could do is speculate for now.

Well chrystalis is not even a pony (did i spell it right?) She was born from pretty much toxic waste and flies. Also sunset shimmer went evil she wouldn't have had enough time studying friendship and learning to be a good friend. All the princesses were pretty much created to serve as the controllers of harmony between ponies. Cadence is a good example she saved a village of ponies from the love in her heart. Sunset has been good for less than a year. She also just got her powers in rainbow rocks at canterlot high. So right now she has about the same status as any honor of an element. It might be possible that she becomes an alicorn though. I'm saying this because she knows at least as much about magic as twilight if not more. Also she's getting this friendship thing down pretty fast. Note this is just how i see it.

She doesn't feed on magic, she feeds on love. Once she feeds on love she gets magic, an then she uses it. Therefore, she does use her own magic and your assumption is one containing fatal flaws in its logic.

@Deetle9 We have been over this already. The anatomy of changelings, even their queen, is strictly biological. Chrysalis overpowered Celestia because of the power she drained, which is part of her species' ability, and puts her and her hive no where near the subject of alicorns.

Queen Chrysalis is not a an alicorn turned evil, she is just the queen of a insect-like pony species bearing chitin wings and horns.

If she were an alicorn possessed by dark powers, she would not need to drain power to go one on one with Celestia.

Celestia's sun and Luna's moon cutie marks mean they raise the moon and sun, but they would have done something super amazing with their powers to get their wings.

They were alicorns before they became princesses. It was also revealed that since alicorns age at a different rate than the rest of the pony races, Celestia and Luna didn't have their cutie marks when they became princesses. And they became princesses because they were alicorns, which means they were alicorns before they got their cutie marks and started raising/lowering the sun and moon. (Also, in the episode "Hearth's Warming Eve", it was explained that the unicorns were the ones who raised and lowered the sun and moon before Celestia and Luna started doing it. But just like one pegasus couldn't make the entire weather alone, one unicorn couldn't raise and lower the sun and moon alone. The pegasi made the weather, the earth ponies grew the food, and the unicorns brought forth day and night. Not the unicorn.)

I believe an earth pony can become alicorns. Alicorns are the mix of earth ponies, Pegasus, and unicorn. If cadence and twilight have potential to become alicorns then why not an earth pony?

@Sunset Shimmer and Fluttershy In my opinion yes because an Alicorn is the best aspects of the main pony races. They can perform magic, make weather and make crops grow much faster than any other race. They have different wings than the common Pegasus and have a longer horn and longer legs than the common Unicorn or Earth pony.

I guess so... I suppose some would say it would be too hard because you would be gaining two abilities but... all ponies gain two abilities when they are turned into alicorns. Pegasi get earth pony strength and a horn. Unicorns get wings and strength. So I guess earth ponies can get a horn and wings!

I like your theory for me I don’t really think Alicorns can’t be born (And Flurry is jsut DNA from her mom and dad)
So here’s my Theory

When she was born this is what Luna said and I quote “A birth of an Alicorn has been never seen. It’s beyond our understanding”
Meaning they weren’t born one and we still can’t be sure about the DNA and we still don’t know anything about her parents so it’s hard to say anything about there’re DNA if we don’t know their parents 🧬
