@SPACKLEBOX No. I will not chill, and definitely not at the behest of another random stranger. For the record, it absolutely was not a simple misunderstanding. Even if I did mean what they thought I meant, they would still have been needlessly contrarian and dismissive of what was a positive and sentimental comment about nostalgic emotions. It was a bizarrely accusatory and dismissive response, and that is not owed "chill", at all. It was in response to my comment. And you certainly don't get to tell me how to respond on my own comment. They approached me /trying/ to be invalidating. That fully deserved to be criticized. It was a rude reply. So no. I will not chill; certainly not at your request. And my comment is months old. You saying that now is weird.
To me this song is a tale of growing up from the view of an imaginary friend. The singer pops into existence at the whim of this pegasus boy and waits as he, "concludes his business," he goes to school, gets a job and...grows up. Then suddenly the pegasus is singing, wistful for the wiles of youth, yearning for the days of silence and simplicity that he cant quite remember...
Gotta be honest, I don't think I've been keeping track of any artist from the MLP save for you and SGaP, the latter of which deleted their channel afaik. When Ponies at Dawn has a new album, I just CTRL+F "Replacer" and jump there anyway. Thanks a lot for the new stuff!
@tyzone I had saved the 2 new SGaP songs released under the Captive Unicorn alias from YouTube in MP3, and I just uploaded them on Mediafire if you want to hear them. I took the chance to edit my EQD posts of the songs as well as the Horse Music Herald posts of the songs and add the Mediafire links there. YouTube might filter this comment if I include the links here, so just quick-search for "Captive Unicorns" on either EQD or Horse Music Herald, you will see the 2 posts there, and below the writeups you will see the Mediafire link to the MP3 file of the song that I added. It's only 192kbps because it's only a YouTube rip. But you will still be able to hear what SGaP has made and shared with us recently before he deleted it :)
@ThatOneDeadGuy no long term name changes from sgap, he's sogreatandpowerful, https://sogreatandpowerful.com/ he's been knocking around for ages but v mysterious and constantly deletes his videos and songs
This may be my favourite song of the whole album. So far, I have listened to it at least once every day since it’s inception. There’s something incredibly beautiful about this, but I have not the word to describe it.
Honestly, you've gotta be one of my favorite musical artists, period. I can't get enough of your style. I can't think of any musical artists that resonate with me so much emotionally and musically. I started listening to you when I was getting into the fandom, and at the same time getting into music overall, and you've stuck with me long after I was finished with it ^_^ Thanks for the hard work.
I've already gushed about this track on Twitter when I heard it on P@D... but there's no character limit in YouTube comments, so I hope you don't mind if I gush again here ;)
It's amazing to me that you can create so many different tracks, in so many different styles and genres, and yet they all have a 'spirit' unmistakably attributable to you. And having listened to this track so many times over the last week or so... to me at least, this seems like your most 'replacer' track ever, and I genuinely love every part of it.
We've talked at length in the past about your lyrics, and the fantastic way you weave what you called an 'outline' for others to read into as they will. This track takes that to another level, at least for me. Honestly, the last verse perfectly describes my own relationship with this song -- the story seems like a distant memory, "another playful moment that I don't quite remember". The imagery, combined with the airy, playful feel of the instrumentation and vocals, all just come together to create a sort of dream that I feel like I had. Absolutely beautiful.
Just a few other notes that I think were absolutely incredible:
I love the sense of rhythm in the 'inner' story about the pegasus boy. The flow of "of the absurdity of his mind/and so reluctant to be confined" is brilliant, and though I have no idea if it was intentional, it feels very directly called back to by "unreservedly undefined". Not just how the melodies and rhythms are the same, and that they rhyme, but that there's a lot of similar sounds throughout the phrases.
The "sudden moment", if I'm paying attention, hits me with an emotion I really can't describe. Everything in this song is either in the past, or very relaxed and uncertain. But as soon as that moment hits, everything becomes certain. The poetry and painting will be gathered, and the waters will go quiet and clear, and the narrator will know that they can stay. And it seems like the music recognizes the significance of this moment, too, with the bassline and some extra melodic fun coming in right at the word "moment". I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a lump in my throat at this point in the song.
It's a really little thing, but I adored your articulation of "does this all the time". I can't hear this line without seeing a character's eyes roll, their head tilt, and a small knowing smile spread across their face thinking about the predictability of this silly pegasus boy.
I'm gonna stop now before I go on for even longer haha. But this track is genuinely inspirational, dude. You make me want to make music; heck, you make me want to get a vocal processor and try to make music with my voice. I want to learn how to craft a world like you do.
(Side note -- I think there is a solid possible reading of this track about the current state of the world. If it is, it is by far the most beautiful perspective on this crisis I could possibly imagine; I chose not to interpret it that way because I have no idea when this song was originally written/conceived, so I don't want to necessarily make that assumption. I do think it's a very interesting perspective that brings a new dimension to some of the lyrics, though!)
Absolutely, 100% agreeing with everything said here, couldn't have said it better. It's some incredible, brilliant work and I can't wait for the next one to release~
Well, on your last track, I said I'd be sticking around, eagerly listening, and my now here I am, with my week made by another incredible track of yours. This one's been insistently rattling around in my head for 4 days now after having first heard it, and if it isn't clear already, I love this! As always, the music itself is lovely, with a mystical and comfortable feel, despite the insistent ticking of time moving forward.
Definitely gives off very strong GLaDOS-in-an-MLP-setting vibes, and I'm happy that she seems a lot less murder-prone than usual. The line about her not objecting to her "soul crashing out of the void" out of politeness is completely hilarious, and nicely ties up this track's off-kilter weirdness. Seems like HD and his creation see each other in his dreams, even if he's not too aware as to what's going on - loving the subtle storytelling you appear to infuse in your song lyrics.
This track definitely fits today's themes of being stuck inside, as well. Here's to hoping you've also got someone to spend your indoors-time with these days, Replacer - in any case, you've always got us! I'll be listening to this for a long time, I'm sure. Many thanks again for brightening my days! You are fantastic and irreplaceable!
I know what you mean. I've never animated and yet this song... I can just see the music video that belongs to it only in my mind, and am compelled to realise it.
Very well made song! Though admittedly I am still trying to piece together what exactly is happening in this story. Is he a painter who made sentient art? Is the singer his imaginary friend? Has he gone insane? And did she trap him? A fascinating mystery wrapped in a catchy melody!
Help I can't stop hitting the replay button. Seriously, this new track was totally unexpected while I let the algorithm take over today, but stopped me in my tracks instantly and quickly changed my state of mind. You're one of my favorite artists I've ever found on YouTube, Replacer. Keep on doing what you're doing, and I'll continue to eagerly look forward to your new work just like I have for the last 4 years now. :)
YouTube started recommending "Never Die" to me a few months ago and I kept listening to it, so it kept recommending it to me. Later, I was introduced to the most recent P@D albums and noticed that your tracks were consistently the most interesting and gave me the most good vibes.
There's something incredibly distinct and whimsical about all your songs. I can pick them out from a mile away despite them often using totally different instrumentation and styles. From all the carefully refined lyrics and sense of melody to the occasional ELO quote. I love everything I've heard of yours so far, it stands far above all the dance mixes and dubstep that pad out most of p@d.
So naturally it has brightened my day immeasurably to see that not only have you been with us since 2011 but you're still here and making music better than ever. You have my subscription and my ears.
After revisiting this song daily since you released it, I can confidently say this is my favourite song. I adore your style, and couldn't dream of effectively articulating how much I love this song. It just possesses me to create.
Please keep doing what you do in the uniquely beautiful way you've discovered. Your style is better than any other in the world.
Very unique way for vocals and melody to go together but it works really well! The character this song gives off is playful and childish, perfectly goes with the lyrics! Well done :)
Thank you for being here too <3 And for a new most unique and wonderful track! ^.^ The lyrics are quite intriguing, your signature vocal style is a beauty as always, and that tender, playful yet bittersweet instrumental is just the kind of gem that we could expect from you <3 It's so refreshing in the album, and contributes to the "P@D effect"! Keep doing what you love, and awesome work on this track <3
Didn't expect to see one of my favourite artists, that I'll always have this incredible nostalgia for, pop up in my feed just now. :0 Just like with Thorinair and (non-pony) The Missing Link and also ratboygenius and Steve Cutts, I guess.
It's a surprise to hear a different voice singing in your style! The lyrics in the middle remind me of people's experiences with plurality/pluralgang, especially given that other commenters have mentioned imaginary friends and similar topics. Your music really sticks with me and I always come back to it now and then ^_^
Aww yeah! Another fantastic addition to my favorites list! It's just so light and airy, I can't help but smile. Also somehow the fastest five minutes of my life, it was over too fast.
There's something I can't quite place about the tempo and mix of instruments, but it gives me such innocent vibes I haven't heard in other songs before
Other people have already said it, but fantastic job! I'm so glad you're making music - it's not even stuff I normally listen to but I just adore it. Take care
I absolutely love this song, it's by far my favorite from the album as I fell in love with it at the first listen. There are no words to describe how many emotions this makes me feel, it's such a cute and bittersweet song. I love how the lyrics are open enough to interpretation that everyone can have a slightly different perception of it.
Thank you so much for making this! It's definitely one of your best songs and that is something hard to top. <3
my god this is a beautifully crafted song, i can't describe with words how well everything blends together here, the art included. this has rather quickly become one of my favorite songs as of late. it's extremely hard to articulate exactly what emotion it makes me feel, but it's somehow quite relatable and peaceful, almost like a moment of clarity amidst the chaos of a mind fractured by isolation; i'd try to dissect the lyrics but every time i try i feel like i've removed necessary context, as if the entire song needs to be evaluated at once. whatever it is that i have yet to comprehend about this song, you did it extremely well, and the result is a lovely piece of music that's keeping me going, man.
the style of your music is so chillin, so childish, so kind, so good. You like bringing back me 20 years ago in my childhood....for what i'm really thankfull to you
Was it your intention to make the rhythm sound like the tick tock of a clock?
Because it fits amazingly well with the theme of the music.
As if the artist's creation knows its lifespan, that it was created from a moment of inspiration and he'll die once it no longer entertains the artist or it is forgotten.
I love this music <3 it provokes very deep feelings
the lyrics to this song feel kinda allegorically autobiographical, but filtered through a character (or rather 2 characters - author and creation). it's fantastic, whatever it means.
also how come so little of your work is on spotify?! days of silence is, but i can't find song for an earth pony, keep calm and canter on, no words, something better, handbag, etc. i guess sweet apple acres and subterranean pegasus blues would be hard cause they're covers. i might have to get youtube red or whatever so i can put your music on while i'm driving
i've been working on and off on getting more stuff onto spotify, you should be able to find keep calm and canter on and birdhorse at least, and i'm planning on a couple of compilations of older and newer stuff, just been a little tough finding the time and energy, some of the stuff i've made this year hasn't even made it to youtube yet >~<
@replacer oh dang, i'm sorry to hear that. prioritising health is way the right move, hope you feel better soon! you're right, they are on spotify. maybe i just missed them somehow

I don't know how you manage to do it, Replacer, but you do. Your songs almost always speak to me on a deeper level and call forth thoughts, emotions and ideas that were sleeping deep within and some which I didn't even know I had. They are always so enjoyable and inspiring! This one in particular reminds me of my creative side and all the ideas and stories I have in my imagination but never brought to "life" in the form of drawings as I wish I'd do. It's like the inner me talking to the real me and reminding me that all of that is in there, just waiting for the day I can give them the proper attention they deserve, even though I still remain locked away in my little imaginary room where I play with those ideas and make new ones, without ever really bringing them out, just pilling them up on a corner.
2020 and yup! I can safely state that you are still one of my top favorite musicians. <3
Just one question, though, if I may... Would you be able to provide a link to the artwork, please? It's lovely and I'd like to add to my collection.
A song from the perspective of the imaginary friend? How long until we see Replacer and some pegasus tup hanging about in the tulpa sphere? /s
Really though, I love how abstract and up for interpretation these songs always end up being. Whether you have a cowriter in your head or the song is entirely fiction, it's great how well the song works with either context.
if you're talking about the main vox, then all I did was pitch-shift up an octave and raise the formant - should be able to do it with melodyne, or something like soundtoys little alter boy if you want a realtime effect. The harmonies at the end are done with a vocal synthesizer called neptune, which only comes as part of Reason, but something like izotope vocalsynth would probably get a similar sound
Oh! Wow, I've never heard editing on a voice that had this sort of effect before. Admittedly I'm not an audio engineer or anything, but this stuff still interests me. Thanks!
Your music is amazing, from the joyful to the sorrowful. I love what it makes me feel. You're my favorite artist, and that's not limited to brony artists. Keep up the great work!
Your music feels like emotions I haven't felt since I was a child.

@Lollipopren Excuse me? That's a bizarrely accusatory and dismissive response to a genuinely heartfelt sentiment about my childhood.

0 likesBeautiful. I don't understand the meaning fully and to me it sounds melancholic and calm.
0 likesI missed your music. I still miss your voice.
Your name is one of the first things I look for on new p@d albums. Thanks for the tunes!
0 likesYou should really put your songs in Spotify!!! It's amazing!!!!!

working on it, it's just taking a little while to get everything together ^^
2 likes@replacer YES!!!
0 likesNice to see you again, cute song you have there keep it up.
0 likesI get Tally Hall vibes in your recent songs that I've listened to, which is very much a good thing.
0 likesLove it.
0 likesWas it your intention to make the rhythm sound like the tick tock of a clock?
0 likesBecause it fits amazingly well with the theme of the music.
As if the artist's creation knows its lifespan, that it was created from a moment of inspiration and he'll die once it no longer entertains the artist or it is forgotten.
I love this music <3
it provokes very deep feelings
Glad to see I'm not the only enjoying the free time the lockdown provides. Good to see you're doing better
0 likes... I think? I'm not entirely certain.
What a coincidence then that my first upload of one of my songs on Youtube is on the same day
the lyrics to this song feel kinda allegorically autobiographical, but filtered through a character (or rather 2 characters - author and creation). it's fantastic, whatever it means.
1 likealso how come so little of your work is on spotify?! days of silence is, but i can't find song for an earth pony, keep calm and canter on, no words, something better, handbag, etc. i guess sweet apple acres and subterranean pegasus blues would be hard cause they're covers.
i might have to get youtube red or whatever so i can put your music on while i'm driving

i've been working on and off on getting more stuff onto spotify, you should be able to find keep calm and canter on and birdhorse at least, and i'm planning on a couple of compilations of older and newer stuff, just been a little tough finding the time and energy, some of the stuff i've made this year hasn't even made it to youtube yet >~<
0 likes@replacer oh dang, i'm sorry to hear that. prioritising health is way the right move, hope you feel better soon!
0 likesyou're right, they are on spotify. maybe i just missed them somehow
YES another Replacer song!
0 likesI don't know how you manage to do it, Replacer, but you do.
0 likes2020 and yup! I can safely state that you are still one of my top favorite musicians. <3
Just one question, though, if I may... Would you be able to provide a link to the artwork, please? It's lovely and I'd like to add to my collection.

0 likes@replacer Thank you! ^-^
0 likesNice stuff! : )
0 likesWoke up and saw a notification of this video and I was incredibly excited!
0 likesA song from the perspective of the imaginary friend? How long until we see Replacer and some pegasus tup hanging about in the tulpa sphere? /s
2 likesReally though, I love how abstract and up for interpretation these songs always end up being. Whether you have a cowriter in your head or the song is entirely fiction, it's great how well the song works with either context.
a very nice song
0 likesso beautiful
0 likesDefinitely getting some Man Who Sold the World vibes here.
0 likesI'm dying to know who sings the female part.

Heya, can I ask the name of the voice synth in this? Or whatever the right term is :P

if you're talking about the main vox, then all I did was pitch-shift up an octave and raise the formant - should be able to do it with melodyne, or something like soundtoys little alter boy if you want a realtime effect. The harmonies at the end are done with a vocal synthesizer called neptune, which only comes as part of Reason, but something like izotope vocalsynth would probably get a similar sound
1 likeOh! Wow, I've never heard editing on a voice that had this sort of effect before. Admittedly I'm not an audio engineer or anything, but this stuff still interests me. Thanks!
0 likesThe end of the song makes me feel sad and idk why?
0 likesHave I ever told you that I love you? <3
0 likesG'stuff, Man! :)
