A little background to this series...
In 2019 I designed a 3d synthesizer called Eye - it creates the visuals you see. It was designed to render a 360 dome-film, but also has great potential for live performance, it's midi-controlled and fun to play with. I did about 30 live streams using it early in the pandemic - collages of music, ambience and eventually voicemails.

These livestreams failed for a few reasons: I was not able to really manage it while creating the visuals, the video quality sucked, several copyright strikes - streaming is hard! So I started to focus on the incredible voicemails people were leaving, and made short films illustrating them, as a kind of document of the pandemic era. I was stunned by the messages, brutally honest, often very painful, but positive too. So much more comes across in our voices than it does online, where text is so cold.

Not many people have seen this series, it reached 10% of my subscribers. I think partly because of Youtube's paranoid algorithm re: Covid, but also, not many seemed interested in sharing such a project - and I don't blame them. It's been a difficult time to know what kind of art is necessary or relevant.

Life is still chaos, but its starting to get hopeful. I am excited for the future where we can see each other again and make new experiences IRL. I am growing incredibly tired of screens. How about you?
