The recording was made on April 8, 1967 at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, on an account involving Robbie Bash. It features a big surprise for my ears: "The Great San Bernardino Birthday Party," which hadn't been documented live before, as well as "On The Banks Of The Owchita," my favorite from dance of death. There are plenty of live Fahey shots for the curious, but there aren't many live recordings from the 1960s and none this early." Out of hand, I can only remember the 1968 Santa Barbara recording and the officially released 1968 set of the Matrix Club in San Francisco The story of the recording (included in the text of the guy who shared it) is very famous: "At the end of 2019, fellow fan Neil Young and a Reed College alumnus, Jim B contacted me. He said Reed College scholar Steve Halpern had a group of Reed College recordings in the late '60s/early '70s reverend Gary Davis, John Lee Hooker, John Fahey and Robbie Bash to be passed on. In 1985, Steve found footage among a cache of reels in the back room of the Reed College library while researching the poet Lew Welch. Most of the reels seemed to be official college business - board meetings, etc., but others were student-led campus events, including lectures and music. He borrowed several rolls associated with music and transferred them using a roll to roll the player from the library's AV division, to a radio-shack "y" cable that plugged the roll roll of RCA ports into one of those ubiquitous, small, portable Panasonic cassette players/recorders. He doesn't know if the originals were or the stereo. The library was remodeled in 2008. As Steve was later told, most of the library's various contents were stored in bins in another building until the redevelopment took place. Steve thinks the rolls, many of which had no labels, may have been discarded afterwards." Anyway, here's the set.0:00 St. Louis Blues
