Još 2017. kontaktirao me umjetnik s projektom pod nazivom Smalltape. Nešto me odmah zaintrigiralo u vezi s predstavljenim albumom.

Posebno cijenim bas i bubnjeve.

Sigurno vas drži na prstima tijekom 65-minutnog izvođenja, a definitivno se ne osjeća tako dugo, čak ni 21-minutni završni ep.....Ladislav&Zivanovic.........Back in 2017, I was contacted by an artist with a project called Smalltape. Something immediately intrigued me about the album presented. I wasn't sure if another album would see the light of day, but I was very happy when The Hungry Heart was recently released. The album released on July 16th, and it took me a few weeks to fully absorb it.

Smalltape is Philipp Nespital from Germany, a professional sound designer. Because of his profession, you can be sure that the sound on all his projects will be intact, as is certainly here. Philipp deals with vocals, guitars, piano, keyboards, percussion and electronics; while he also brought a few guests to deal with everything from bass and backing vocals to saxophones, trumpets, vibraphones, cellos, violins, violas and more.

This album is an eclectic affair, one that feels like a movie that deals with environmental issues. Music is presented as an artistic experience, one that immediately attracts you. There are great contrasts between loud and silent, organic and electronic, dark and light. I might call the genre "progressive rock," but that would be a waste of jazz, pop, classical and cinematic qualities. However, there is definitely rock, more in the acoustic vein of things, and everything is performed both with technical abilities and brilliance. I especially appreciate bass and drums.

There's something about this album. It floats and thinks in shady darkness and tough voices, but it also has huge, bright highlights and narrow, catchy melodies. There are times when you might feel like the second album has begun, just because the tone and instrumentation have changed so much. It certainly keeps you on your toes during the 65-minute run, and it definitely doesn't feel that long, not even the 21-minute final epic....//+Copyright Disclaimer under Section 107 of the copyright act 1976, allowance is made for fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, scholarship, and research.
