SMA Syndrome is considered one of the rarest disorders known to medical science. Characterized by recurrent vomiting, abdominal distention, severe malnutrition, and extreme postprandial distress, SMA Syndrome is no longer terminal in this day and age but still sustains a shocking mortality rate of 1:3. Although recognized by the Canadian Rare Disease Foundation, SMA Syndrome still remains unacknowledged by the National Organization of Rare Disorders (NORD) in the US.
