Founded in 1970 - Dissolved in 1973

. YearNOTE: Not to be confused with the Canadian band and here at PAGerman

Et Ceter's outfit was wolfgang dauner's brainchild. Starting to play the piano as a child, he actually graduated from the conservatory in Stuttgart with a trumpet direction.

In 1963, he formed his own jazz band, focusing on the commissary scene, bringing in the famous German bassist Eberhard Weber and the American drummer Fred Braceful. This threesome played together in the '70s? changing and challenging their sound to the limit.

Dauner received critical acclaim with his view of experimental and modern jazz, where he and his bandmates stretched the boundaries of the scene to such an extent, that many have since claimed to have done to jazz what Faust did to rock. Already in the late 60s, these musicians showed signs of what was to come in the form of the Krautrock movement that rolled through Germany during the frantic and wild 70s. So

, as a natural continuation of what happened regarding experimentation between different genres, Dauner and the crew made Et Cetera's debut in mid-December 1970 at Orange Recording Studios in London. The band now consisted of Roland Wittich (percussion), Eberhard Weber (various bass instruments, vc), Fred Braceful (drums, voices, bongos), Siggi Schwab (guitar, sitar, sarangi) and Wolfgang Dauner (synths, klavinet, ringmodulator, trumpet, flute, etc.).

Combining everything from Indian raga music and psychedelics to avant-garde jazz tendencies with the modern rock template, Et Cetera has managed to conjure up a rather unique view of the Krautrock sound. Freeflowing and loose with a lot of focus on improvisation, the band was a melting pot of many different styles and approaches.

With the addition of legendary drummer Jon Hiseman and guitar chameleon Larry Coryell for his second studio album Knirsch, the band now seemed like a sonic experimentation to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, this was supposed to be the last studio release of this very eclectic group, and the year after they called it a breakup of a double live album.

Et Cetera was a short-lived sequel in the early days of Krautrock, but from a modern perspective and on a broader scale of what the scene is about, it seems right to call this outfit one of the real pioneers of the scene.
