Makes perfect sense since minor keys can be passionate and expressive, a few Christmas songs like Carol Of The Bells, Greensleeves, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen are already in a minor key and they're some of the happiest sounding ones but still very expressive.

Can anyone musically inclined explain siMPLY what the difference between major and minor key is??? Like i can tell how different these sound from the original but it’s the saME TUNE RIGHT???! I love it but it boggles my brain how can they be the same song but different amount of spooky
This is simplified, but essentially any key is just a selection of 7 notes from the twelve possible notes. Minor vs major is all dependent on which 7 notes you choose. If you choose the third note in your scale to be right up next to the fourth note, that’s a major key. If you choose it to be slightly lower, and next to the second note, it’s a minor key (again, super simplified). So when you turn something from major to minor, you’re taking all the times the melody or harmony hits that third note in the scale and pitching them down a little bit. So it’s actually not the same time! It’s slightly adjusted in this way. You might also pitch down the sixth and seventh notes in the scale, depending on which “type” of minor scale you’re using (there are three main ones). This might seem like a minor change (hahaha), but it really affects the feel of the song. Hope that helps! :)
There are things called intervals and it’s basically the number of notes between two notes in a melody. Depending on the number of notes it might end up being minor or major.
If you do a half step as your third note, it will typically be major, but if you do three whole steps in a row to begin your scale it will typically be minor
For three note chords, major has the middle note in said chord one half step (one piano key) farther right than minor chords. That’s for three notes though.
Maddie Amber I’m pretty sure I’m wrong, and all of these comments are confusing as heck, but I feel like it’s just like when you play something on the piano, but on a different part of the piano. It has the same notes, but in a different “key” or volume/high-low pitches stuff.
In Western cultures we automatically associate minor with sad and major with happy but in some other cultures it's actually opposite. Just an interesting fact :)

Believe it or not, it’s just an A major, 3 octaves of A and a C# in the middle octave. It’s really the layering and mixing that makes it what it is. To replicate that feel, try using an A major 7 (adding a high G#), it really recreates that comfy next-to-the-fireplace feel
@Smao LC i don't know if my ears or yours are off, but i used a tuner while listening to this vid, and the notes she is hitting in this cord are a D, E and F natural. There is no A or C# in this cord. Perhaps it's a D minor cord with a second E attached...

Makes perfect sense since minor keys can be passionate and expressive, a few Christmas songs like Carol Of The Bells, Greensleeves, and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen are already in a minor key and they're some of the happiest sounding ones but still very expressive.

Honestly p much that major/minor third is the main element
69 likesThis is simplified, but essentially any key is just a selection of 7 notes from the twelve possible notes. Minor vs major is all dependent on which 7 notes you choose. If you choose the third note in your scale to be right up next to the fourth note, that’s a major key. If you choose it to be slightly lower, and next to the second note, it’s a minor key (again, super simplified). So when you turn something from major to minor, you’re taking all the times the melody or harmony hits that third note in the scale and pitching them down a little bit. So it’s actually not the same time! It’s slightly adjusted in this way. You might also pitch down the sixth and seventh notes in the scale, depending on which “type” of minor scale you’re using (there are three main ones). This might seem like a minor change (hahaha), but it really affects the feel of the song. Hope that helps! :)

Believe it or not, it’s just an A major, 3 octaves of A and a C# in the middle octave. It’s really the layering and mixing that makes it what it is. To replicate that feel, try using an A major 7 (adding a high G#), it really recreates that comfy next-to-the-fireplace feel
