Well, not really. This might be a common impression perhaps when thinking exclusively about release dates, when in fact you are not aware of what is happening behind the curtain. In fact, it was already April 2018, when mastermind Samuele Santanna was constituted with a new five-piece line up to prepare for the band's fourth album. It is again together with his longtime friend Fabrizio Trinci (keyboards). Gabriele Marconcini now contributes vocals. This is a winner. I'd say a very good discovery and decision, no doubt. We also see Marc Geri (bass) and drummer Francesco Carnesecchio who are new in the fold, both of whom make a very solid contribution as expected. This album still shows a typical RAVEN USA feel, however it's definitely not a simple copycat case, when it coincides with previous albums. It's a neo and psychedelic mix of prog basically, with haunting melodies everywhere. Every now and then, some Pink Floyd reminiscence passes. A distinct slight flow is presented, although diverse heavier and groovy moments are also embedded through diversity. Which again leads to a concise attribute: fun. Sky acoustic and electric guitar playing, pearl piano lines, spherical synthesizers, expressive vocal presence. There's no need to point out a particular song. Raven Sad are an Italian band coming from Tuscany, listed here under Psych as opposed to RPI. The Leaf and the Wing, released in 2021, is their fourth album, albeit their first since reforming in 2017 after a six-year layoff. This album was one of the most pleasant surprises for me this year, having picked it up after a favorable review elsewhere in the pro-universe. Band founder Samule Santanna is a good guitarist, joined on keyboards by old cohort Fabrizio Trinci, with new band members Gabriele Marconcini, singer, Marco Geri on bass and Francesco Carnesecci on drums. Growing up, and hopefully wiser, I am not a big fan of labeling works by their supposed subgenre, so suffice it to say that it is largely an atmospheric work that prefers to avoid such categorization. It's got a lot of highlights. The album is marked with two instrumental songs, Legend #1 & #2. The initial piece is a perfect introduction to the kind of huge sounds we hear throughout the album, preceded by a Floyd talk-over. Closer to bringing the process to an end with five minutes of ensemble beauty, which perfectly gives a conclusion about the work I describe below. Raven's sorrow is a thoughtful song, while City Lights and Desert Dark at their core have a vocal that reminds me very much of one Yusuf Islam, or Cat Stevens as it was previously known, and some wonderful riffing of all concerned creating a wall of medium-distance noise, with a beautiful, huge guitar solo performance by Santanna that goes back to a beautiful, short, coda. There are two 10-minute-plus epics on the album. The first is Colorbox, a monster of a 13-minute ticking track, and my favorite here. It opens with a rather beautiful harmonic vocal that overlaps on the piano chord before entering a far darker (again short) phase. This then takes us to the main segment, which turns and turns in its themes and musical textures, but with that beautiful "awakening" vocal at its core. Marconcini can make you sit down and notice, as the hairs on the back of your neck rise when it hits the top notes. The final third is simply beautifully dreamy with a piano and deceptively powerful rhythm section that supports multiple sublime guitars before the lead vocalist makes ends meet with intensity. Very powerful and very elegant progressive rock. Approaching Chaos is a harder road, but with interesting fusion cemented inside. A sense of deep hunch is expertly created in this instrumental story that then leads us to another epic, Ride the Tempest. When he said Tempest arrives a third of the way in, after deceptive calm, it hits you right between the eyes, but once again the moods and tempos change as we move through the track with such intelligence. A simple option would be to provide us with punching riffs throughout the story, but the band takes us on a journey, all of a sudden with beautiful guitars, and then with drum and bass hitting underlined by some looping keyboard work. The final segment has a mournful cello solo. Absolution Trial is simply a joyously difficult prog piece of music, perhaps not as subtle as everything else here, but certainly tapping your legs and head shaking execution before closing once again has those huge guitars and delicate vocals underlined rhythmic excellence. What we have here is a work whose musical prowess is never less than exemplary, with vocals lilting all over your sound system, and a sense of longing throughout, and by far the best (what I interpreted as a) a comment I've heard about climate catastrophe from the beautiful Fields of Disruption of Edison's Children, to which I think it's worth comparing myself to both scope and execution. The production is crystal clear, and the album is available through Bandcamp. Oh, and the cover is to die for as well. Highly recommended, and four stars for the album hopefully marks the long-term reappearance of talented clothing. Ladislav&Z.............

La pièce initiale est une introduction parfaite au genre de sons énormes que nous entendons tout au long de l’album, précédé d’un Floyd talk-over. Plus près de mettre fin au processus avec cinq minutes de beauté d’ensemble, ce qui donne parfaitement une conclusion sur le travail que je décris ci-dessous. Il s’ouvre avec une voix harmonique plutôt belle qui se chevauche sur l’accord de piano avant d’entrer dans une phase beaucoup plus sombre (encore une fois courte). Cela nous amène ensuite au segment principal, qui tourne et tourne dans ses thèmes et ses textures musicales, mais avec cette belle voix « d’éveil » à la base. 0 likesRaven Sad are an Italian band coming from Tuscany, listed here under Psych as opposed to RPI. The Leaf and the Wing, released in 2021, is their fourth album, albeit their first since reforming in 2017 after a six-year layoff. This album was one of the most pleasant surprises for me this year, having picked it up after a favorable review elsewhere in the pro-universe. Band founder Samule Santanna is a good guitarist, joined on keyboards by old cohort Fabrizio Trinci, with new band members Gabriele Marconcini, singer, Marco Geri on bass and Francesco Carnesecci on drums. Growing up, and hopefully wiser, I am not a big fan of labeling works by their supposed subgenre, so suffice it to say that it is largely an atmospheric work that prefers to avoid such categorization. It's got a lot of highlights. The album is marked with two instrumental songs, Legend #1 & #2. The initial piece is a perfect introduction to the kind of huge sounds we hear throughout the album, preceded by a Floyd talk-over. Closer to bringing the process to an end with five minutes of ensemble beauty, which perfectly gives a conclusion about the work I describe below. Raven's sorrow is a thoughtful song, while City Lights and Desert Dark at their core have a vocal that reminds me very much of one Yusuf Islam, or Cat Stevens as it was previously known, and some wonderful riffing of all concerned creating a wall of medium-distance noise, with a beautiful, huge guitar solo performance by Santanna that goes back to a beautiful, short, coda. There are two 10-minute-plus epics on the album. The first is Colorbox, a monster of a 13-minute ticking track, and my favorite here. It opens with a rather beautiful harmonic vocal that overlaps on the piano chord before entering a far darker (again short) phase. This then takes us to the main segment, which turns and turns in its themes and musical textures, but with that beautiful "awakening" vocal at its core. Marconcini can make you sit down and notice, as the hairs on the back of your neck rise when it hits the top notes. The final third is simply beautifully dreamy with a piano and deceptively powerful rhythm section that supports multiple sublime guitars before the lead vocalist makes ends meet with intensity. Very powerful and very elegant progressive rock. Approaching Chaos is a harder road, but with interesting fusion cemented inside. A sense of deep hunch is expertly created in this instrumental story that then leads us to another epic, Ride the Tempest. When he said Tempest arrives a third of the way in, after deceptive calm, it hits you right between the eyes, but once again the moods and tempos change as we move through the track with such intelligence. A simple option would be to provide us with punching riffs throughout the story, but the band takes us on a journey, all of a sudden with beautiful guitars, and then with drum and bass hitting underlined by some looping keyboard work. The final segment has a mournful cello solo. Absolution Trial is simply a joyously difficult prog piece of music, perhaps not as subtle as everything else here, but certainly tapping your legs and head shaking execution before closing once again has those huge guitars and delicate vocals underlined rhythmic excellence. What we have here is a work whose musical prowess is never less than exemplary, with vocals lilting all over your sound system, and a sense of longing throughout, and by far the best (what I interpreted as a) a comment I've heard about climate catastrophe from the beautiful Fields of Disruption of Edison's Children, to which I think it's worth comparing myself to both scope and execution. The production is crystal clear, and the album is available through Bandcamp. Oh, and the cover is to die for as well. Highly recommended, and four stars for the album hopefully marks the long-term reappearance of talented clothing. Ladislav&Z.............

Cet album a été l’une des surprises les plus agréables pour moi cette année, après l’avoir repris après une critique favorable ailleurs dans l’univers pro. Le fondateur du groupe Samule Santanna est un bon guitariste, rejoint aux claviers par l’ancienne cohorte Fabrizio Trinci, avec les nouveaux membres du groupe Gabriele Marconcini, chanteur, Marco Geri à la basse et Francesco Carnesecci à la batterie. En grandissant, et j’espère plus sage, je ne suis pas un grand fan des œuvres d’étiquetage par leur sous-genre supposé, il suffit donc de dire que c’est en grande partie un travail atmosphérique qui préfère éviter une telle catégorisation. Il y a beaucoup de faits saillants. L’album est marqué par deux chansons instrumentales, Legend #1 & #2. La pièce initiale est une introduction parfaite au genre de sons énormes que nous entendons tout au long de l’album, précédé d’un Floyd talk-over. Plus près de mettre fin au processus avec cinq minutes de beauté d’ensemble, ce qui donne parfaitement une conclusion sur le travail que je décris ci-dessous. Le chagrin de Raven est une chanson réfléchie, tandis que City Lights et Desert Dark à la base ont une voix qui me rappelle beaucoup d’un Yusuf Islam, ou Cat Stevens comme on l’a déjà connu, et quelques riffs merveilleux de tous concernés créant un mur de bruit de moyenne distance, avec une belle, énorme performance solo de guitare par Santanna qui remonte à une belle, courte, coda. Il y a deux épopées de plus de 10 minutes sur l’album. Le premier est Colorbox, un monstre d’une piste de tic-tac de 13 minutes, et mon préféré ici. Il s’ouvre avec une voix harmonique plutôt belle qui se chevauche sur l’accord de piano avant d’entrer dans une phase beaucoup plus sombre (encore une fois courte). Cela nous amène ensuite au segment principal, qui tourne et tourne dans ses thèmes et ses textures musicales, mais avec cette belle voix « d’éveil » à la base. Marconcini peut vous faire vous asseoir et remarquer, comme les poils sur le dos de votre cou se lèvent quand il frappe les notes de tête. Le dernier tiers est tout simplement magnifiquement rêveur avec un piano et une section rythmique trompeusement puissante qui prend en charge plusieurs guitares sublimes avant que le chanteur principal ne rencontre les deux bouts avec intensité. Rock progressif très puissant et très élégant. L’approche du chaos est une route plus difficile, mais avec une fusion intéressante cimentée à l’intérieur. Un sentiment d’intuition profonde est créé de manière experte dans cette histoire instrumentale qui nous conduit ensuite à une autre épopée, Ride the Tempest. Quand il a dit Tempest arrive un tiers du chemin, après un calme trompeur, il vous frappe juste entre les yeux, mais une fois de plus les humeurs et les tempos changent que nous nous déplaçons à travers la piste avec une telle intelligence. Une option simple serait de nous fournir des riffs de punching tout au long de l’histoire, mais le groupe nous emmène dans un voyage, tout d’un coup avec de belles guitares, puis avec des coups de batterie et de basse soulignés par un travail de clavier en boucle. Le dernier segment a un solo de violoncelle triste. Absolution Trial est tout simplement un morceau de musique prog joyeusement difficile, peut-être pas aussi subtil que tout le reste ici, mais certainement tapotement de vos jambes et la tête secouant l’exécution avant de fermer une fois de plus a ces énormes guitares et voix délicates souligné l’excellence rythmique. Ce que nous avons ici est une œuvre dont les prouesses musicales ne sont jamais moins qu’exemplaires, avec des voix lilting partout dans votre système de son, et un sentiment de désir tout au long, et de loin le meilleur (ce que j’ai interprété comme un) un commentaire que j’ai entendu sur la catastrophe climatique de la belle Fields of Disruption of Edison’s Children, à laquelle je pense qu’il vaut la peine de me comparer à la fois à la portée et l’exécution. La production est limpide, et l’album est disponible via Bandcamp. Oh, et la couverture est à mourir pour aussi bien. Fortement recommandé, et quatre étoiles pour l’album, espérons-le, marque la réapparition à long terme de vêtements talentueux. Ladislav&Z.............

Cela pourrait être une impression commune peut-être quand on pense exclusivement aux dates de sortie, alors qu’en fait vous n’êtes pas au courant de ce qui se passe derrière le rideau. En fait, c’était déjà en avril 2018, lorsque le cerveau Samuele Santanna a été constitué avec une nouvelle formation de cinq musiciens pour préparer le quatrième album du groupe. Il est à nouveau avec son ami de longue date Fabrizio Trinci (claviers). Gabriele Marconcini contribue maintenant au chant. C’est un gagnant. Je dirais une très bonne découverte et une très bonne décision, sans aucun doute. Nous voyons également Marc Geri (basse) et le batteur Francesco Carnesecchio qui sont nouveaux dans le giron, qui apportent tous deux une contribution très solide comme prévu. Cet album montre toujours une sensation typique de RAVEN USA, mais ce n’est certainement pas un simple cas d’imitateur, quand il coïncide avec les albums précédents. C’est un mélange néo et psychédélique de prog fondamentalement, avec des mélodies obsédantes partout. De temps en temps, quelques souvenirs de Pink Floyd passent. Un léger flux distinct est présenté, bien que divers moments plus lourds et groovy soient également intégrés par la diversité. Ce qui conduit encore une fois à un attribut concis: le plaisir. Jeu de guitare acoustique et électrique Sky, lignes de piano perlé, synthétiseurs sphériques, présence vocale expressive. Il n’est pas nécessaire de souligner une chanson en particulier. Parce qu’ils offrent une production arrondie, attrayante de la première minute à la dernière. 4.5 étoiles sur pa scale.ladislav&zivanovic.............

This might be a common impression perhaps when thinking exclusively about release dates, when in fact you are not aware of what is happening behind the curtain. In fact, it was already April 2018, when mastermind Samuele Santanna was constituted with a new five-piece line up to prepare for the band's fourth album. It is again together with his longtime friend Fabrizio Trinci (keyboards). Gabriele Marconcini now contributes vocals. This is a winner. I'd say a very good discovery and decision, no doubt. We also see Marc Geri (bass) and drummer Francesco Carnesecchio who are new in the fold, both of whom make a very solid contribution as expected. This album still shows a typical RAVEN USA feel, however it's definitely not a simple copycat case, when it coincides with previous albums. It's a neo and psychedelic mix of prog basically, with haunting melodies everywhere. Every now and then, some Pink Floyd reminiscence passes. A distinct slight flow is presented, although diverse heavier and groovy moments are also embedded through diversity. Which again leads to a concise attribute: fun. Sky acoustic and electric guitar playing, pearl piano lines, spherical synthesizers, expressive vocal presence. There's no need to point out a particular song. Because they offer a rounded production, attractive from the first minute to the last. 4.5 stars on pa scale.ladislav&zivanovic.............
