There are few hints in this episode that there is actually a connection between the two families. For one, when Goldie Delicious is putting up a picture of Apples on the wall, there is another picture of a stallion with manestyle very similar to Pinkie's.
Pinkie’s hair isn’t like that naturally, at least she wasn’t born with it. I don’t know what the picture looks like, but if it’s Pinkie’s curly hair, it probably isn’t anything actually related to the Pie’s since their hair is straight and Pinkie’s is curly from the Sonic Rainboom
When Apple Bloom was doing her little song and dance after getting the map, she was referencing a fan made series of videos called "ponylicious". I loved seeing that acknowledged in the actual show.
Fact List!!! SQUEE! Number 1: The rhyme that Apple Bloom recites upon finding the map is a reference to "Twilighticious" a not-so-secret collaboration between fan Content Creator Gabriel "BlackGryph0n" Brown and Twilight Sparkle voice actress Tara Strong. Number 2: Granny Smith is voiced by Tabitha St. Germaine, the same VA as Rarity, Luna and Derpy Hooves! Number 3: Pause at just the right moment around 17:45 seconds, and you'll see a crudely made flash puppet of a Slenderman-esque pony creeping away into the trees. Number 4: Goldie Delicious is voiced by an actor we all know and love . . . Peter New, the guy who voices Big Macintosh! ;)
I learned recently that "removed" when talking about family means a generational difference. That means if Pinkie Pie is Applejack's fourth cousin twice removed, then Pinkie is as old as Granny Smith 😐
If you think about it, assuming that first scroll was about Pinkie's family, and knowing that the second from Golden Delicious is of the Apple family, the likelihood that both sections about the Pies are smudged is pretty uncanny. That could, if anything, prove that there is a link between the two families.
I think there is a hint that Pinkie might be related to the Apples : she was able to take the scroll from the bottom just as Goldie Delicious took the book from the bottom.
Not sure if this could be a hint : Applejack becoming a balloon when Spike "helps" her breath in "Spike at Your Service" and Pinkie's head becoming a balloon in "Simple Ways".
That was just one of several hints. There was also:
-The way Pinkie Pie responded "Ahhhh! yourself" to Twilight early in the episode, then Goldie responded "Hello! yourself" to Pinkie later
-Both like gingerbread houses (Goldie had a half-eaten one in her home, and Pinkie swallowed one whole in the Hearth's Warming Eve episode)
-Pinkie knows about crazy cat ladies and how they start ("give her time..."), implying she has at least one in her family, and Goldie is a crazy cat lady
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen this episode and it’s very good too. From the interactions between the Apples and Pinkie to that upbeat and catchy song. What more can I say other than the fact that I enjoy this episode? It speaks for itself.
01:12 Fun fact: Pinkie's voice actress, Andrea Libman, once played Jenga on a convention with Peter New (Big Mac's voice actor), and it looked pretty much like this scene ;) She won, of course ;) So I guess some of Pinkie's powers rubbed on her ;J 01:54 Mrs. Cake is not related to Pinkie. Pinkie only works/lives there. Her parents live on the Rock Farm. 06:45 As for someone who only says "Eyup" and "Nope", there's a lot of variety in how he says it :J 07:12 There was a leaked animatic for this song before the episode aired. It was interesting to compare the animatic with the final product. 11:20 This scene was a direct reference to a series of fan animations called "ponylicious", in which each of the ponies said their own cheerleading "poem" to introduce themselves, that ended in "I'm X-licious" (where X was that pony's name). Apple Bloom here almost said "I'm Applelicious" too ;) but she's been interrupted halfway through. the last word. 14:47 Hahah that would be fun to see :D 15:38 U OK, Applejack? :q 18:42 All of them, apparently :J 18:55 And one of them seems to be a cheetah :q 19:20 Now that's one dusty cat ;) (In case you didn't know, there's a dude named Dusty Katt who was one of the reacters in "Bronies React". Could this be an allusion to him? ;> ) Anyway, even though we've never learnt the truth if Pinkie's really related to Apples or not, I think this scene is a pretty good "between the lines" confirmation that she is: remember that Jenga stack of scrolls in Twilight's library? Pinkie took the scroll from the bottom and the stack didn't collapse. Goldie Delicious seems to have that ability too. Could it run in the family? ;) 19:50 That's one of my head canons too. And it's related to Applejack's parents "not being there". And the fact that Pinkie stands out so much from her Rock Farm family ;> But more on that later, when the time comes...
I've been watching your reactions to all my favorite episodes and I've been having a good time. I love how you get so into the episodes and are not afraid to show your emotions. Apples to the Core is such a jam, one DOES NOT listen to it only once (when not watching this episode) and then move on to something else. Doing so is a crime. I always find myself listening to it so many times in a row, and singing along every single time.
This is a great episode. Pinkie Pie is great. The concept of Pinkie Pie and Applejack being related is interesting. The scariest cave in Equestria is great.
A Fourth cousin twice removed could be just about everyone, especially in an area with a small population and thus a shallow gene pool. Also, Applejack really needed this episode to show she can be nice to help people forget her attempted genocide against an entire race of people, ( the vampire fruit bats) a few episodes ago in bats.
this may sound pathetic but idc. these reactions to mlp help me. when im down or lonely they help a lot. i think the mix of mlp being my fav plus its like if im watching with friend. it helps, so thank yous
Your cousin's kids would be your cousins once removed, and your children would be second cousins to those kids. If those kids had kids they would be second cousins once removed from your's, and 3rd cousins to your grandkids etc.
"Braeburn, did you and Mrs. Cake do something?" Me: Uh, dude, neither Mrs. nor Mr. Cake is related to Pinkie. She works for them. Her family is quite different to her.
"4th cousin twice removed by a 5th cousin" is basically the most recent common ancestor for Pinkie and AJ was one's Great Great Great Grandpony, (4 generation gap) and the other's Great Great Great Great Great Grandpony (6 generation gap). Twice removed is the gap between the generations, in this case 2.
The song's overrated, but it's still quite good. I mostly remember this episode from the shipping division it caused in the fandom, between the Apple Pie shippers (who decided they're not related) and the non-shippers (who decided they are.)
...and there's also the third group we don't speak about.
They've been introduced in the show already, in "Cutie Mark Chronicles". When Pinkie threw her first party for them and got her cutie mark immediately after.
Apples to the core is one of the best mlp songs to sing a long to imo.
