How Little are My Little Ponies?

Ponies and horses are a separate thing. They are both equines, yes, but they are different. The Mane and coat is typically thicker, they are stockier, their legs shorter (not just from their being smaller) and wider barrels, just to name a few things. The more you know :)

Objection!!  In the episode "Hearth's Warming Eve", the Mane 6 play I Spy, and Twilight points out (and I quote) "an 8 foot candy cane."  Underneath it, Scootaloo stands at about a third of the candy cane's height.  That makes her about as tall as you claim Fluttershy to be, which means Fluttershy and the other ponies MUST be at least 4 feet tall or so, which puts them right about the rangs of regular ponies.  I think you should use this episode to rework your equation.

No actual measurements given? Actually, something a lot of people miss (including myself, until recently), is the eight-foot candy cane in the hearth's warming eve episode. Could've used that.

I still find it hilarious watching old videos because of the "When do ponies turn into horses?" thing. Maybe that's because I was raised around animals, but it just makes me laugh XD

Contrary to what some of the comments below are saying, the term "pony" in its most simple form refers to a horse under 14.3 hh. They are not a seperate breed, though there are horse breeds who are strictly pony heights.

Judging by the characters' short backs and high hocks, these ponies aren't even the size of a falabella, making them miniature horses (not even ponies)
Princess Celestia could be an A or possibly B ponny. (The size of a Welsh Cob) However, her design is more like a cross between an Arabian horse and Akhal-Teke (minus the draft-horse legs and missing withers), which don't add up.

Well, from what I understand, ponies do not turn into horses. A horse and a pony are seperate. For example, on earth, there are colts and fillies. Those are baby horses. Then there are stallions, witch are full grown male horses that have not been neutered, geldings witch are full grown male horses that have been neutered, and mares witch are full grown females. A pony is shorter that a horse, and often has more mane. They are different things but also the same. A pony is also sometimes used rode scribe a horse because the term pony is more popular.

I had often figured that the length of a Pony's torso would be about equivalent to the height of a Human torso, but their legs are proportionately shorter so a Pony standing upright on her hind legs would still be shorter than a human equivalent. I paused at 1:40 when the 2 versions of FlutterShy were shown side by side in proportion, and my presumption seems to fit. Pony FlutterShy is a bit smaller, but she's also hunching her back in that shot. Also, Ponyform's legs seem to be the same length as humanform's upper legs, hip to knee. That said, if you want to see what a pony's size and proportions would be if they somehow became real or travelled here interdimentionally or whatever, get a human to go down on their hands and knees. That's about the size they'd be. The same would be true if Bronies were converted into Ponies, you can do that to see your Pony size.

It's fair to note you shouldn't assume people's average height as a set measurement against other objects.
Also if you insist on doing that you forgot to take into account the heels that Fluttershy and other (5of6) equestria girls are wearing into the height equation.

Funny thing is I (well, actually someone else who did the work of making a height comparison chart) got a similar figure simply by putting Celestia right at the 14 hands threshold and scaling the other ponies down proportionately.

That could also explain some ponies’ immense strength by the square cube law.

Actually, there's an episode where Twilight is in the Crystal Empire and states that she sees an 8 foot tall candy-cane striped pole. I believe Scootaloo is stuck to it by her tongue allowing a more accurate estimate of pony size. That was already done, but I forget who exactly did that.

I find it sad some people think ponies are baby horses. Sigh Baby horses are called "Foals" Celestia is about the size of a horse.

So as it turns out, I was taller than the average 11th or 12th grade girl… when I was in 9th grade.

Of course the numbers may have been different when I was a kid, there is quite a year difference as this was made in 2014 and I’m the oldest of five and my niece is about to go into high school, so it just goes to show how old I am.

Here on earth we have real ponies, when there born there small, and when they get to their full age, they look like miniature versions of horses, thus humans have called them Ponies.

Why can't we assume the ponies in equestria are the same size as normal ponies? Considering there is a horse in one of the episodes, trouble shoes. Based on that we vas assume a horse from mlp is the regular horse size so a pony is a regular pony size.

Here guys this is coming from someone who has done equestrian on a real horse with real experience, ponies are 14.2 hands and under, every hand is 10cm from my understanding, however I am 5'5 and as tall as a 14.2 pony :)

Actually, on the packaging of an Applejack EG mini, there was a picture of human Applejack standing next to pony Applejack, and I think she was about as tall as h. Applejack' like knee, or something.

Technically Fluttershy would be about 5 hands tall, due to horses having their own measurement system.

There ARE a couple measurements in equestria, for example the 8ft candy cane in hearths warming eve, or the [I have no idea how many] carrot jewel in the episode where it is spikes birthday, the gift from rarity. But feet may be different in equestrian, the same with the sizes of humans in equestria girls, so really, we have no way of telling the actual height. ¯\(ツ)/¯

We have no reason to think that Angel from the human world is the same height as Angel from Equestria. The only thing we know for sure that's the same size in both worlds is Twilight's crown.

So... 14 times 4 (equals 1 hand) and the .2 hands and thats under 58 inches tall, so almost 5 feet tall and weigh 500-899# Alicorns are probably light horse size 14.3-17 hands and weigh from 900-1400# Cadence being on the lower end and Celestia being on the higher end. Big Macintosh would be a draft horse due to the excessive weight from the mass of muscling and his cold (relative for horse) blood that gives him his cool collective attitude. So Big Mac weighs +1400# Fillies and colts would be miniature ponies like the ones used as seeing assist animals, weighing obviously less than 500# and around 34-38 inches or less. Being in college really makes you aware of these things. Hey maybe I should be in a video... neigh I'm too much of an egghead.

This is an old video and you probably won't see this but in Hearth's Warming Eve when they're walking through canterlot Twilight says "I spy an 8 ft candy cane." It's probably not exact but still, it's a form of measurement that someone as smart and precise as Twilight pointed out.

At what point do ponies become horses? They don't. The common misconseption is that ponies are small horses, when in fact, ponies and horses are completely different. Asking at what point do ponies become horses is like asking at what point do horses become giraffes. They don't because the DNA is different. Ponies' DNA is different from horses' DNA. There is, however, a type of horse called a mini. Within that there are different breeds, but basically minis are "mini horses" whereas ponies are different. The DNA for minis and horses are the same. Ponies are different. (Minis are smaller than ponies. The smallest mini in the world is about 17 inches tall.)

The giraffe comparison was a little bit exagerrated, but I hope you get the point.

A pony cannot become a horse. If it's a pony ( under 14.2hh) and a horse is 14.2h+ . which means if a horse is under 14.2 it not fully grown but still makes it a horse.

Hooves Width:  12cm/d  /  4.5in/d

Body Height:  16cm  /  6.3in

Neck:  16cm  /  6.3

Body Length:  30cm  /  11.8in

Note that this is excluding mane, tail & ears.

I think the reason ponies become humans instead of horses is because they are a lot like humans. They’re smart, they have buildings, they live in houses, they rule the land and they eat cooked food like humans. Sure they look a lot like horses but they act like humans. So that’s why, they became humans instead of horses.

This is a cartoon. Cartoons don't always get things right and they can have logical problems. The videos of yours that I've seen range from average to very good, but you definitely overanalyze things. For example, Rainbow Dash and Daring Do look alike. But that doesn't mean they're twins. It means the animators decided to make them look the way they do. If you try to look for an explanation to details like that, more often than not, it will just be a logical problem with the show.

So as most humans are around 5-6 feet head to toe, ponies should be the about the same if not a "little" less at the withers (shoulders) so if you take into account the other items in Equestria that must abide to certain size requirements such as the tuba, you would realize the My Little Pony really is only short a few inches in reality. I appreciate your video but I don't see it having much grounds on items that would not work if adjusted to your dimensions, such as the tuba. Good process though, reminds me back to early middle school algebra.

I have a theory of Equestria. Ok you may be wondering what’s is the question for the theory. The question is Why is equestria ruled by Princesses? Most places ruled in the old times were ruled by Kings and Queens Princesses are of course the Daughters of the rulers. On to the theory. You are wrong there is a difference between horses and ponys baby horses (and ponys) and are called foals (a male is colt and a female is a filly) so the main difference is a pony when fully grown measures Less than 14.2 hands.

Hey  btw in the episode where spike turns greedy from gifts and grows, He gives Rarity a 10 (i think forgot to look it up) carat ruby, which is pretty big on the ponies. A ten carat ruby on a human is small enough to be a large ring, so ponies can fit in your palm, maybe a couple (3-4) at a time. Your welcome.

Okay I was just reading the comments and I think you just successfully annoyed the majority of equestrians watching this video... Myself included. Ponies are not baby horses. Ponies are horses under 14.2h (hands) there are other differences too but this is the main one.

Somehow I don't see this as being accurate, especially since Celestia is roughly the same height as the horses from Saddle Arabia and Twilight is about half the size of Celestia. I just can't see a horse (aka Celestia) being smaller than an teenage high school aged human being. If this was remotely accurate, then all the other animals in the show would be small as hell: dogs, owls, donkeys, cows, the bear that lives near Fluttershy, etc.

Personally I think that is maybe a little too short. If you compare a pony with some other creatures from the area, like griffins, you can see  that they are sometimes the same height. SO that means that they would be small too. I think that you should compare this with a more human like creature. Like Iron Will. Personally i think that an average female pony is like between 1,10 and 1,20 meter. This is just an estimation

lLIKE IF U PRESSED SHOW MOREponies and horses are different. because (no offence) u don't know realy about real equines, you only realy base it round mlp charactres. and a filly is a foal in mlp so yeh. a baby pony in real life is a foal, and in mlp, the foals are supposedly called fillys cause thye are pegasi and unicorns as well. not just earth ponies. ponies and horses sgare the same aperance as one another but ponys are smaller in hands (equestrian way of measuring.) than horses. so its kinda ok that u think ponies turn to horses as they are biger tha one another as I said.. so anywyas, my mum has a horse and I have a pony and the horse is bigger that the pony even thoug there is same aperances. basically here is an easy way to undertsnand: baby pony=foal. baby horse=foal. not filly, not pony, a pony will be a pony til the day it dies and any way I don't reaklly get hw u donnt know as goldie apple is a pony even at her age so u must know. ok, sorry for the long commenet :D
