You see, this is how you react to a show. You dont question every little thing that happens, you dont talk during the songs and important parts. Just sit back and soak it all in. I love this reaction.
Frick. Watching this again after all this time, I realized that was the last time Gran Pear ever saw his daughter. He went to VanHoover all *alone*. Pear Butter probably wrote to him and kept in touch, telling him about Big Mac and Applejack when they were born and growing up. He missed it. He missed it all. Then he comes back and finds she’s died and all that’s left are her children who are the spitting image of her and Bright Mac. That’s so sad. He really did let his anger keep him away from his family and I’m crying so hard now.
Something I never hear anyone talk about is the fact that Grand Pear, or "Grand-Pére" is French for grand father, as is Grand Mare or "Grand-mère" for Grandmother. Nothing big, but I found that interesting.
My very close second best episode in the series, its emotional, sweet and hearwarming. I tear up each and every time I watch this masterpiece. Definitely one of the biggest episodes of the season. Couple fun facts: back in episode 10, in one of the dream bubbles you can see a baby Applejack being held by what can only be Pear Butter and Bright Mac; and second, of course, Grand Pear was voiced by William Shatner, who actually hinted that he would be in the show before the season started.
This was my all time favourite episode, and it might still be, but theres still some episodes to come which were able to top it for me. But either way, I think The Perfect Pear is The Perfect Episode. :)
While I've not watched the show in a long while, some episodes will always bring a tear to my eye. This is one of the many episodes which cements this show in my heart. I'll never forget this show. Much love!
This is my favorite episode, and it's no wonder why. This show can make an episode tug at your heartstrings once in a while with a particularly emotional scene, but this one managed to bring the feels constantly.
True, but some youtubers have way more resources. like more money and also began sooner to react to the series, like 2013, 2014 or 2015 and hit the fandom and get more views, unfortunately, the series ended, and the fandom fever lowered... also, contacts and friends can help you very much, some Populars youtubers who have reacted to mlp like Equestron, FOB Equestria, IloveKimPossibleAlot, Applegeek, Toucan Ldm, Littleshy, Josh Blackwell, Ladix, Blue Star Brony, Brony Burning Axe, Black Gryphon... but He do great, and he got a humble number of viewers and followers, He will reach the cap of 1000 subscriptions soon. As you deduced, this is absolutely the episode. It makes #1 on my list of favorite episodes of the entire series. Incidentally, the previous episode, Discordant Harmony, also makes my top ten, as does the episode coming next, which I am sure you have already watched and are just waiting to upload. BTW, William Shatner as Grand Pear and Felicia Day as Buttercup were both phenomenal in this episode!
I love this episode to pieces! It is without a doubt, among the best stories this show had to offer! Who’d better to write such a beautiful episode than Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, they are excellent writers.
I simply love how we were able to see the Apple Siblings’ parents at long last. Bright Mac and Buttercup are the best parents of the Mane 6 and pony couple in this show in my personal opinion! What more can I say about them, they stole the episode and my heart.
It was great that we got so much exposition on the Apple/Pear parents as well as the other characters that they interacted with (Mrs. Cake, Goldie, Granny, Grand Pear, etc.). Not only is this episode beautiful, but it’s also pretty heavy too. Seeing the struggle between Bright Mac and Buttercup’s relationship was one of the show’s most serious things to touch upon. It’s hard not to get emotional over what transpires in this story, even for me.
This episode is perfect, the song is wonderful, everything about it is excellent! Awesome reaction PonyBro, I enjoyed this one!
it's a small thing but i really appreciate that they never confirmed or de-confirmed whether her name was still granny smith before she was a granny lmao
And here we are. My favorite episode of the hole show. Every time i watch this episode i cry just for the fact of how beatiful and romantic realtionship Pear Butter and Bright Mac aside the whole Romeo and Juliette thing because even if this episode has those vibes this feels more natural since we actually get to see how they pass their days together and grow up their relation. And the song is just breath taking. easily my number 2 in my top list for the show(this was up to season 7).
See this is a great reaction. Bronys react pisses me the fuck off. It's 90 percent cringe and 10 percent talking over the whole fucking episode. You earned my sub my dude
a fantastic family episode, for a fantastic family holiday. ^^
on a side note, imagine getting in a fight with your child only to one day find out their gone, and your last words to them was disowning them. no wonder he came back.
I am going from reactor to reactor to see others watch this episode and I enjoyed yours the best. Thank you. I am going to subscribe and watch your other content.

This episode is beutiful. When i watched mlp for the first time in some great episodes like magical mistery cure or crusaders of the lost mark i could hold the tears, but when i watched this episode... It was imposible. AJ is one of my favorites characters, so this hit me very strong.
Your reaction to this episode reminds me so much of what I felt the first time I saw it, so incredibly powerful and full of love! A truly perfect episode, and a truly amazing show <3
I absolutely love it when this show does these more - I guess you could say - bittersweet episodes, or at least moments. There aren't too many since this show is pretty happy-go-lucky, and I do love it for that, but when things like this and Amending Fences appear... geez.
6:45 I always thought that it was like that because of translated babyspeak, though I guess that doesn't really explain why his voice is so deep. It could be that he's just really mature for his age, as evidenced by his evaluation of right and wrong early on when he broke that silo. Or maybe the voice actor just couldn't go any higher, either due to his own range or because of voice directing. Anyway, while it may be jarring to hear baby Bright Mac like that, it's probably better than having him speak in a high-pitched, goofy baby voice.
I have teared up so many times watching this episode over and over with so many different reactors. I actually didn't this time (got a little close to starting though), but only because I've seen it so many times already, and the feels were definitely still there, definitely.
I just watched your react to the CMC episode, where AB gets her CM and heard AJ say: "When even our parents could be here now.." That was my trigger to skip some episodes and I had to continue with my personal favourite of the entire show, The Perfect Pear I followed your channel just a couple days now, the more reacts I watched the more I knew, how this one would be for you to watch - and finally I just couldn't wait any longer.. Well, what else I could've expected..? I cried as everytime I watched this heartburning tale, but it felt just incredibly pure to see, that another guy is about to do the same.
These true emotions were it, that made me fell in love with this incredible show about a half a year ago and your reacts always give me proove, that I'm not just a random confused weirdo. Cuz there are others out there, they feel exactly the same way. Just wanna thank you once again. Thanks for sharing these experiences and for letting us be a part of it. Thanks PonyBro
Really expands on the apple family situation makes you think how aj and big mac had to grow up as kids having to help run the farm and take care of apple bloom this show really pushes its storytelling so well im really happy your truly adore this show as much as we all do its such a special kind of show with such well thought out characters were so lucky we had a show like this
I know I am late to the party but I do wholeheartedly agree with the comment saying that THIS is how you react to something. This is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series, and likewise this is also one of my favorite reaction videos I have seen from you so far. I'm crying my eyes out over here like every time I hear the song which I also love so, so much.
Its impressive the very serious topics mlp goes through despite the very restrictive Y rating. Like the things this show has had despite the rating is insane. some cartoons can't even accomplish that with a pg rating. like TV-Y is literally one step away from like actual baby content yet they did so much with it.
We finally got to hear about Applejack’s parents. I knew they probably died but I never imagined their love would be forbidden. This is a lot like Romeo and Juliet
I doubt that. :) He didn't even know who John de Lancie was. And WIlliam is from very first Star Trek show. I doubt he ever watched or would watch it anyways. It's mostly known among older generation.
1. When they go to talk to Grand Pear at the end, you can see directly across from his pear jam stand is... Burnt Oaks' firewood stand just 10 feet away. Was Grand Pear listening to Burnt Oak tell the water silo story?
2. When they get married, they planted an apple seed and pear seed that grew into the two trees at the end. But did you notice, they were married at the stone that Bright Mac had carved their cutie marks? At the end, the stone with their cutie marks is next to the two trees.
3. During the song, Bright Mac notices Pear Butter struggling to pull weeds, but he can't say or do anything because Granny Smith is with him. Later, Pear Butter returns to the spot to finish pulling weeds, which is clearly on her property because of all the pear trees there, only to find Bright Mac asleep with all the weeds pulled. He returned there to pull the weeds for her.
Sadly, Hasbro wouldn't allow them to ever tell the story of what happened to them. You know, PonyBro, I'm as dirty minded as you are, but the Apple parents are sort of like sacred ground, for me. I've rarely ever stepped over that line with them, and always felt a bit guilty about it afterwards. I'm surprised I didn't cry this time, only teared up a bit. Must have something to do with having watched the episode seven or eight times, now, counting reactions.
When I first watched this I accidentally guessed the twist right from the opening: Grand Pear is a pun on "Grand-père" (grandpa in french). Apple Bloom even sound like she references it (20:40), otherwise that question doesn't make much sense.
You can tell even in the past during the marriage neither Grand Pear or Granny Smith wanted to hurt them. Granny Smith looked back when they said they were in love, not in anger. And the constant faces of Grand Pear of thinking, thinking if he should continue, and his anger made him do so. Granny Smith immediately dropped the feud with the Pears except for Grand Pear it seems.
19:1419:44 Well, Pear Butter got Granny's attention, and not in the "she's a Pear stay away from her" way, but in a slightly more positive way. Granny comforts her after her father leaves and accepts her as part of the Apple Family.
Okay. This is an example of one of the strongest episodes that I looked forward to your reaction to. Now that it is behind me, that's a checkmark I can tick off in my life.
>Did< you ever watch this episode again? Or how about watching your own reaction and reliving memory lane? Because you got that. When you record your reaction, it's like you put a time capsule on your own experience. You probably should open it and take a again.
"A Perfect Pair". There are those who call this the perfect episode. Just watch other reactors to this episode. Then you'll learn how not alone you are. Even I teared up just watching your reaction, especially during Pear Butter's song.
Btw, as an Fyi, William Shattner did the voice of Grand Pear in this episode.
Oh! Just thought of another question. Is this still your favorite episode of MLP? I did see your reaction through season 9, but I forgot. I think you said that honor now goes to the last episode, but you could have changed your mind since that recording so I figured I'd double check.
Some people say that they died because of Timberwolves. If that's the case then that is really scary cause Granny was chased by Timberwolves as well when she was young and Applejack too in season 3 episode 9.
It's so impressive to me that they took what essentially started out as a meme in the early days of the fandom ("lolol Applejack hates pears lol"), and they turned it around into a top-tier episode like this. Truly a credit to the creators of this show!
24:50 same here man, mlp is still and prolly forever will be my favorite show. Started watching it in like 2013 so coming up on 10 years of me coming back and watching a random ep or 2
Yeah, that is William Shatner as that character Animaniacs mocked him in the early 90s and after seeing this episode, and after grand pear really pissed the fans off watch that segment give you relief
00:35 The title is also a word play which sounds like "The Perfect Pair" ;) As in romantic pair of ponies. 01:25 Do you recognize this voice? ;> It's William Shatner :) Another dude known from "Star Trek" :J 05:23 Reminds me of that Hooffields & McColts episode :q 06:06 Yup. Kinda runs in the family :) 06:48 Yeah, weird. Especially considering that the Cake twins can't talk yet :q 07:11 Here comes the realization.... ;> 08:48 Well howdy do, Mr. Sam Elliot pony ;) 11:38 Another confirmation that ponies can change their names. 12:02 Told ya, runs in the family ;) 12:20 It might be, so it's interesting that you're bringing this up ;J However, I'm not sure Ms. Cake is related to Pinkie Pie. Pinkie only works for her in the Sugarcube Corner. But it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the show whether they're related or not. (Cake is kinda related to Pie, since they're both cakes, but this might be coincidental.) 13:33 Yup, the parallels are strong. 14:18 :D Pear Butt's voice actress was a famous singer, Felicia Day ;) And Bright Mac is Bill Newton. 14:52 "Lady and the Tramp" much? ;> 18:05 Mayor Mare with her pink hair :D Remember in that episode ("Ponyville Confidential") in which Gabby Gums published an article about Mayor Mare dying her hair? :J 18:53 Ask and you shall receive ;) 19:42 Well, at least Granny Smith accepted her into the Apple family, so there's that :q 20:06 Nnnnnnnnnnope :q You wish.... 20:40 Another word play, because in French "grandfather" is "grand-père" which sounds totally like "grand pear" ;) 22:20 A Perfect Pair, and a perfect episode :) One of my top favourites in the entire show :) 23:30 Yeah, most fans say that this was as close to the official confirmation of their death as we could get in this show. To me, however, this is still not enough, until I see the bodies :q My own theory is that they are indeed alive, but they have to hide somewhere far away for some reason, to either save their life, or their family's lives. The ponies in this episode were using the past tense, sure, but this doesn't have to mean that the parents are dead, especially if they didn't specifically say so. They might as well use the past tense because the parents are no longer around, and miss them because they're gone for a long time. And even if they really believe that the parents are dead, their beliefs doesn't have to be true. For example, the parents might have had to state their own death to convince everyone that they're dead, so that no one would be looking for them, to save them from some danger. One possible hint that this might be the case, is the fact that in "Where The Apple Lies" we see Applejack and Big Macintosh as foals, and we already don't see the parents anywhere, but we also don't see Apple Bloom. If she was born later than the events of this episode, the parents must have been still around somewhere, alive. At least to the time of Apple Bloom's birth. But since they're already "missing" in this episode, this may provide another explanation for their "not being there" other than their being dead. There will be one more thing that may confirm this theory in a later episode, then I'll tell you more about that. This might also be connected to my other theory, about Pinkie Pie being related to the Apple family. As you probably remember, in the "Pinkie Apple Pie" episode, we learned that there is a possible connection between those two families, but from some reason, all the things that may confirm that, have been "smudged" or "missing", as if someone deliberately tried to erase all the evidence that they're related from history. Could this relation be something important? Could it be connected with the reason why Applejack's parents must have gone hiding? (Most likely to protect their family from some grave danger or some powerful evil villain? :J )
PonyBro, stay clear of those leaks, those are with many spoilers! :) Also, I heard some VAs didn't really appreaciate people getting those leaked files and turning them into outtakes. It's kinda an invasion of privacy... It's not really good it's being put to public like that.
There’s a Animaniacs segment where they make fun of the actor who voiced grand pear William Shatner and after watching this episode and considering his character in this episode is really made me mad watching that Animaniacs segment, give me satisfaction because they blow him up as well
Applejack: <to Knuckles> I know about heartache... Believe me... But sittin' around feelin' sorry for yourself ain't gonna help anything. Look at what you DO have, instead of what you lost.
<Applejack motions to her chest.>
Applejack: Ask this. Trust me, it doesn't bite.
Different Episode:
Apple Bloom: <to Charmy> You know, my parents are gone too... And sometimes thinkin' about that makes me sad... But Applejack and Big Mac've always been there for me. The two of 'em have made sure I was taken care of and never got seriously hurt. And I know Mom and Dad are proud of them. You gotta believe your parents are proud of you too.
"Potential relation to the pie family?" Notice buttercups hair? I know pinkie isn't the only character allowed to have a big and fluffy mane, but it is ironic how applejack's mom had fluffy hair and so does pinkie!
my only problem with this episode is that the voices of the baby versions of bright macintosh & pear butter are way too grown up. other than that, it's perfect.
And the feels train has pulled into station :D The Cakes are completely unrelated to the Pies. Pinkie Pie just lives and works there. If you can believe it, there's an even better episode coming in season 8.
@@bonbonpony there's also that thing where Buttercup looks like Pinkie a lil and how you know... they could be related... the pie family and the pear family... calls back to that episode where Pinkie and the Apple family would go on a quest to find Goldelicious to see if Pinkie was related and we actually never got confirmation nor denial ? hMMMMmmmm
Actually, he might be onto something. Because when you think of it, they actually never said in the show that the Cakes are NOT related to Pies either ;> So maybe they ARE related indeed? ;> I mean, cakes and pies are both sweets/bakery stuff. Maybe Pinkie Pie moved there and work for the Cakes because they're some far-removed family? :>
I love the fact that each of them inherited not just appearance but part of their personalities from their parents: - Applejack inherited her honesty from their dad - Apple bloom inherited her special talent from their mum - Big mac inherited his singing talent and simple taste from their mum
good episode to me, i always expect and love these kind of episodes... but i don't class it in my favorites episodes, Sure, this is cute and i can't stay of marble..even if the Apple family centered episodes are not in my favorites.
Last I checked imdb.com, this was the second most loved episode based on user reviews. You haven't gotten to first place yet :p
"I better see them fuckin' kiss before the end of this." When you said that, for a split second I heard 'I better see them fuck and kiss', so here's a direct link to some NSFW artwork of exactly that: https://derpicdn.net/img/view/2017/12/31/1620518.png , a gift from one perv to another.
Did you know that Grandpear voiced by Captain Kirk himself William Shatner And considering know how much of a douche bag The character he voice in this episode is wanna watch his death scene from one of the Star Trek movies and I wonder Mr. Spock might’ve reacted when he said yes I am probably gonna punch him in the face
Especially yes, I am line came from the mouth of captain. Kirk makes him absolute an asshole. And, besides, Captain Kirk would never say yes I am in that tone if someone ask him that question. I mean he kisses the Michelle Nichols character, in one episode
This is one of the top episodes out of the entire run, without a doubt. As for AJ's parents...
23:27 There was unofficial confirmation at a convention panel in 2016 from one of the show's five character designers. There's a link to video of the Q&A on the mlp.fandom.com page for Bright Mac and Pear Butter.

Every time i watch this episode i cry just for the fact of how beatiful and romantic realtionship Pear Butter and Bright Mac aside the whole Romeo and Juliette thing because even if this episode has those vibes this feels more natural since we actually get to see how they pass their days together and grow up their relation.

Your reaction to this episode reminds me so much of what I felt the first time I saw it, so incredibly powerful and full of love! A truly perfect episode, and a truly amazing show <3
5 likesI absolutely love it when this show does these more - I guess you could say - bittersweet episodes, or at least moments. There aren't too many since this show is pretty happy-go-lucky, and I do love it for that, but when things like this and Amending Fences appear... geez.
20 likes6:45 I always thought that it was like that because of translated babyspeak, though I guess that doesn't really explain why his voice is so deep.
This episode is basically a yes without confirming nor denying anything. It is the best hint while getting around the no Forbidden d words

Its impressive the very serious topics mlp goes through despite the very restrictive Y rating. 1 likeWhat a day to upload it on thanksgiving none the less on a day that is importance of family is
4 likesin my opinion when their talking as itty bitty babies it's a rugrats situation.
8 likesSome common oversights:
1 like1.
4. Mayor Mare's mane was not dyed, yet.
5. Nightmare Moon is still in the moon.
Btw, Grand Pear is voiced by William Shatner.
5 likesSadly, Hasbro wouldn't allow them to ever tell the story of what happened to them.

Replies (2)
HAHAHAHAHAHAH well , their language is PONISH 😂😂
1 likeYep, that's right. She asks "Oh! Can I call you Grand-pere Pear? (Grandpa Pear)"
1 likeYou can tell even in the past during the marriage neither Grand Pear or Granny Smith wanted to hurt them. Granny Smith looked back when they said they were in love, not in anger. And the constant faces of Grand Pear of thinking, thinking if he should continue, and his anger made him do so. Granny Smith immediately dropped the feud with the Pears except for Grand Pear it seems.
2 likesA sad realization is that grand pear never got to apologize to his daughter before she died.
2 likes19:14 19:44 Well, Pear Butter got Granny's attention, and not in the "she's a Pear stay away from her" way, but in a slightly more positive way. Granny comforts her after her father leaves and accepts her as part of the Apple Family.

Btw, as an Fyi, William Shattner did the voice of Grand Pear in this episode.

Some people say that they died because of Timberwolves. If that's the case then that is really scary cause Granny was chased by Timberwolves as well when she was young and Applejack too in season 3 episode 9.

11:38 Another confirmation that ponies can change their names.
12:02 Told ya, runs in the family ;)
12:20 It might be, so it's interesting that you're bringing this up ;J However, I'm not sure Ms. Cake is related to Pinkie Pie. Pinkie only works for her in the Sugarcube Corner. But it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the show whether they're related or not. (Cake is kinda related to Pie, since they're both cakes, but this might be coincidental.)
13:33 Yup, the parallels are strong.
14:18 :D Pear Butt's voice actress was a famous singer, Felicia Day ;) And Bright Mac is Bill Newton.
14:52 "Lady and the Tramp" much? ;>
18:05 Mayor Mare with her pink hair :D Remember in that episode ("Ponyville Confidential") in which Gabby Gums published an article about Mayor Mare dying her hair? :J
18:53 Ask and you shall receive ;)
19:42 Well, at least Granny Smith accepted her into the Apple family, so there's that :q
20:06 Nnnnnnnnnnope :q You wish....
20:40 Another word play, because in French "grandfather" is "grand-père" which sounds totally like "grand pear" ;)
22:20 A Perfect Pair, and a perfect episode :) One of my top favourites in the entire show :)
23:30 Yeah, most fans say that this was as close to the official confirmation of their death as we could get in this show.
