Yes, there was an Apple family reunion this episode, as confirmed in Applebuck Season when Twilight asked AJ where all the other family members were. This actually gives a big clue on the progression of time, as the next reunion was in Season 3 and they said there that there's a reunion every hundred moons
It is implied that this "Apple Family Reunion" was not coincidental with the Summer Sun Celebration (it would be TOO much of a coincidence, given it was ALSO the 1000th year). They came "out of alignment" much before the 100 moons from the last reunion had passed.
It is much more likely that the "Apple Family" took notice several months before that Princess Celestia was planning to visiti Ponyville [in a very "official" way], plus Applejack being tasked with providing the food for everypony in this "Royal Event" (so they came from all other farms/town to "help").
The episodes S1E10 & S1E22 were also "special ocasions" with Celestia visiting Ponyville; but since Applejack was not "officially" involved they could not add themselves for recognition [the next time it happened was in THE MOVIE 2017 (Applejack´s involvement for Shining Armor´s Wedding was a "last minute" changelingchange of plans after False!Cadance "took out" the previous asigned chef as part of her invasion "Master Plan"].
Yea they have come along way...in two ways.... so first their animation has come a long way too and their character development...same with you my guy. You've done awsome all through the show in my opinion. Also all youve done has been proof of you commitment..so extra props to you for that

To be honest, seasons 1 and 2 really had a questionable amount of times where you wondered what the priorities of the animators were in regard to why the heck their butts were in shot and sometimes close (like Bridle Gossip and Winter Wrap up) Thank goodness they reduced that after.
Yes, these ponies have all come a long way. For Fluttershy in particular, that didn't start until she was retconned in season 4. Lessons like the ones she learned in Bats, Filli Vanilli, and It Ain't Easy Being Breezies were among the first to stick, so she came as far as she did in at least one canonical year less than everypony else.
I think you did a good job with your Seasons 1-3 reactions. Your commentary is funny, and I love your glasses joke, and I love your perverted jokes. Definitely makes me want to stick around and watch your videos (just finished S1-3 and Equestria girls, and will be continuing).
