Not a canon song! I'm guessing this one's inspired by Fluttershy, which makes sense she's usually associated with more of the calming stuff like this. ^.^ I don't know about the average MLP fan these days, but I personally hold fan-made music pretty high due to the diversity in genres and artists it's attracted over the years.
As for the show...tbh it took me a while to get into it. :x But I know a lot of other fans instantly loved it. Maybe you could too. Really depends on what you're after IMO, but yeah give it a shot!
