I like how they incorporated Japanese circle painting - a Zen art form called ensō (円相) - into Kettle Corn's character, considering its cultural connection to the art of haiku. Those of course have nothing to do with kettle corn, so her name is a bit odd, but oh well! :)
You have a stomach ache? The ponies will make it better. Rumble reminds me of starlight, different ideologies but both tried to deny others of their true selves and both put themselves in a box. Plus both had a song that gave a bad massage.
I can picture a scene where Rumble is by himself sitting and sulking, but then Starlight walks in, sits next to him, asking: “First time? Been there, done it.”
2:06 "Ahh, why is my stomach hurting now?" One possible cause: Over time, high amounts of caffeine can damage the stomach lining. And energy drinks have several times as much caffeine as soda.
Rumble has his reasons on not wanting a cutie mark, but it’s not his decision to make in terms of influencing the other fillies and colts to do the same as him.
(20:18) A little lonely on that limb, kid? Take my advice. Put aside that selfish pride.
Rumble was easily the best part of this episode. I know he’s supposed to be the “antagonist,” but I was actually on his side right up until the revelation at 18:23. Since season 1, I’ve always had a problem with the fact that cutie marks essentially limit what you can do for the rest of your life. People’s interests naturally change and evolve over time, but a cutie mark would seemingly get in the way of that. Anyway, I’m glad this issue was finally addressed in an episode of the show, although I was very disappointed by the revelation that Rumble had already put himself in a box by wanting to be a Wonderbolt. It seemed like the writer just wanted to take the easy way out, unfortunately.
I'd argue that the other ponies got too sucked into Rumble's backwards ideology, but then again, fully grown adult ponies in this show have that happen to them, so these fillies and colts didn't stand a chance.
To be fair. They are blank flanks and unable to find their cutie mark even when they try hard. It's frustrating trying to figure out who you are, especially when someone promises a more promising future.
In all honesty, Rumble was the only thing that annoyed me about this episode. I know that he didn’t want a cutie mark based on something he had no interest in with the camp and all, but forcing his ideals of not getting a cutie mark on the other ponies wasn’t fair. Basically a similar shtick that Starlight pulled in S5. Other than that, I thought episode was alright. Not exactly a CMC episode that I’d look back on very often, but it’s okay.
1:26,1:40, 2:51, 2:53, 2:59, and 3:38 Oh, so when Diamond Tiara and silver spoon say blank flanks it's bad. But when the CMC says it, it's not bad, bull shit!
"Track Day, bro! Yo! Track Day, bro! Bro, going to Track Day? Let's go to the Track Day, bro! Five sets of tires, bro! Yokohama, bro! Sumitoyo Nitto Hoosier, bro! Hoosiers! Got some Hoosiers for the Track Day, bro! Bro, you coming, bro? Cones! Gonna tear it up! Left foot braking, bro! Track Day, bro! Come and get a roll bar, bro! Let's, a- Let's kiss."
4:12 "You're a Wonderbolt?"
