Explaining the Everfree Forest

The Everfree Forest is filled with Wild Magic, magic that can't be tamed or controlled. The reason why it's so scarey to ponies is cause the forest works and lives on its own, which freaks out the ponies who manipulate the world to their will. They take care of the animals, control the weather, and tend to the plants so a place that does that on its own without any intervention freaks them out.
But just like with Chaos, Wild Magic is neither good nor evil. It's just there and exists, reason why Zecora lives in it is so she can utilize the magic in her potions

Well, from reading the diary of the two sisters, the tree was there before they built the castle.

we know one thing: the castle was built before the everfree existed. quote from second episode of season one "the last known location of the Elements of harmony is in what is NOW the everfree forest"
and the tree of harmony wasn't put there by the two sisters scince they had to find it.
and that's all we know.

In the same flashback you mentioned, one of the two sisters(I forget which, it's been awhile) implies that they didn't previously know where the tree was. They probably positioned their castle there afterwords as a method of guarding it, only to be petitioned by the ponies to build and move to a much grander castle in Canterlot. Or maybe they didn't build it, and it was left after the rule of the unicorn monarchy.

How, then, did the Everfree Forest come to be? Well, we've seen Celestia using 'dark' magic. Perhaps she can use chaos magic, too. Maybe she enchanted the area around the tree and the castle with chaos magic to guard the tree instead of her and Luna.

Maybe the above theory is wrong, and Statue Discord, probably originally held at that palace, was leaking chaos. When they noticed, Tia and Luna would have had to cast a spell to stop the magic from leaking. By that point, however, it could have been irreparable, causing them to have to move.

Just a few thoughts.

If you read the journal of the two sisters, youd know what the sisters didnt placethe tree of harmony and star swirl the bearded told the sisters to live in the everfree forest and the sisters decided to build there castle next to the ravine where the tree of harmony was and they built the castle in the everfree forest without the forest growing around the castle

Actually, the journal of the two sisters explains that they built their castle in the Everfree Forest above the Tree of Harmony, because Celestia and Luna chose to built it above the tree and Star Swirl said that it was a great idea, because the tree could help protect Equestria. Also, I once read a fan fiction about the Everfree Forest and its origins that I really thought could be true. The Everfree Forest was made by Princess Everfree who used her magic to make the forest, so the ponies wouldn't have to work as hard and nature could control itself, but as it controlled itself it created new and dangerous stuff, so the ponies had to move away from the forest.

Well, the Journal of the Two Sisters (which is as close to being canon as something outside the show itself can be) said that the sisters close to make their castle in the Everfree Forest because it was so unique, and then they found out that the Tree of Harmony was there. Seriously, all of the analysis people should at least own a digital copy of that book.

The ever free forest came first, it existed during Discords reign, however it was a regualr forest untouched by Dicords magic. When the sisters decided to free equestria thwy first went to the forest to discover why it was untouched. Siscord discovered there plan and created the seeds of chaos to get rid of the forest once and for all, but the sisters came out with the elements and sealed Discord away before his seeds could take full effect. However with the elements removed the rree of Harmony had to fight Discorda seeds all by irswlf, leaving the rest of the forest exposed. Twisting the once beautiful and magical forest into a dark twisted version of itself. Not realizing what they had done because they were unaware of the seeds, the sisters continued to borrow the powet of Harmony and until Princess Luna was sealed away. However the light magic of the everfree forest had already turned dark. How dark? I believe it was thw influence of the darkened everfree forest that truly currupted princess Luna in the first place.Tasked to watch over the moon at night in the tower that the sisters built to be near the tree, and thus the elements (back when the forsest was still beautiful) young peincess Luna was all alone and thus easy pray for the dark magic growing in the forest. After all, it was the ever free forests magic and Illusions that tested the main six when they first needed to wield the elements. Now one lone pony holding not one but three different elements. The forest did its worst and princess Luna was currupted, deemed unworthy of ever weilding the elements again.
After that, princess Celestia thankfully returned the elements and left the tower, amking a new castle in what is now canterlot.
So it was tree, forest, discord, sisters, elements, castle, mare on the moon.

I think what happened was that celestial and Luna built a castle there bc they were protecting the tree of harmony at that time so they needed to be near it but what they didnt kniw was that a forest was growing around the castle and once ut did the two sister took the elements and left and protected them in the stones we see in the very first episode of season one and they had a new castle built in Camelot and built a city around it just my guess ☺

I think that the tree came before the princesses and they chose to build their castle semi-close to the tree and the physics of the human world came out of their portal, mixed with the magic of the tree and other magic in the world (causing the super magical and wild beings), and then the sisters left their castle maybe to make it easier for citizens to come see them

Maybe Discord is responsible for the everfree forest? Like you AJ said, "It ain't natural!" Who do we know that loves to make crazy, unnatural things? Discord. Although I don't have much proof other than that, it's still an interesting thought. Although there are a couple holes in this theory, for one, the everfree forest seems to have existed since Starswirl the Bearded was around, since he hinted at the idea that he helped hold the forest back before the tree came in, and second once Discord was defeated for the first time (supposedly) everything went back to normal, but the everfree forest was still around, but if I could come up with a theory to explain those, I think Discord would be a solid explanation as to how the everfree forest came to be. Although it's entirely possible that the laws of physics from our world leaked into the pony world. Just a thought I thought I'd share.

well the elements of harmony came from the tree, and Celestia and Luna suposedly found the elements and used them against Discord. So the tree must have been there before the sisters came along. I guess that they made their home nearby the tree of harmony, but I ignore if the everfree forest was there at the moment or not, or if it was like it is now. There seems to be a lot of magic in the forest, and this magic, much as the forest itself is very wild, wich explains why the everfree forest is so different from the rest of Equestria. The question is if the everfree forest is the only place in Equestria where magic "goes wild" or if there are other places where magic acts in a similar way, either in Equestria or the lands beyond.

I believe that the Tree of Harmony came first as the two sister had to find the tree before they could take the elements. After they defeated discord I assume they built the castle near the tree to protect it. After Celestia banished her sister and moved to Canterlot I assume the forest grew around the castle grounds as the land became unattended and it was the residue magic from the tree of harmony that influenced the nature of the forest

I think that the tree of harmony grew on its own, and when the sisters castle was being built, they discovered the tree, while wandering in the woods, perhaps,  and thought it beautiful. That might explain why, in Twilights flashback when she drinks the white potion, there is a window displaying the tree of harmony, which was shattered when Luna began her transformation into Nightmare moon.

Perhaps discord created the forest as a place for his seeds to grow considering more vines seemed to grow in the ever free forest. That would explain why there is so much chaotic magic. The two sisters could have build the castle to research the forest and make sure if was safe. Maybe discord made the plants grow and the clouds move by themselves to help his vines grow without the help of ponies.

Well, in the Journal of the Two Sisters, it was confirmed the Tree of Harmony had been there before Celestia and Luna found it; Star Swirl knew about it before them, and Celestia had said, "it is the most famous tree in the world." So, ponies had already known about the tree before. That can eliminate the possibility of the two sisters planting the tree. ;) Also, Luna was the one who had decided they should build their castle in the Everfree forest according to their journal, I do believe. I'm not sure, I'll have to check again xD
I use it for a lot of references for things before the mane six's time because it's the only "official" information we have besides episodes from the show. There's a lot of journal entries in it containing a little bit about the Everfree forest, but not enough to solve this mystery.

I have a combination of this and the episode about Discord being Starswirl the Bearded.  Since the elements were switched when Twilight case the spell it is possible that the Everfree Forest was a regular forest and is where the spell was first cast.  This makes sense as all of the animals and plants are now a mixture of what exists in the world.  The Tree of Harmony grew as a way to contain the effects of the spell, like it was created during the spell as a safeguard or it happened at the same time.

Maybe a long time ago when the ponies first started to show Equestria they saw a beautiful crystal tree (The harmony tree) and tried take the colorful jewels out of it. Once all of the jewels (Elements of Harmony) were taken out of the tree their world fell into chaos. Celestia and Luna were two regular princess that ruled over Equestria but they didn't raise the sun and moon at that time, when they started to see that everything started to stop naturally doing its thing, they got worried. They saw the elements missing from the tree and assumed they had something to do with all this chaos. When Celestia and Luna put the elements back in the tree, everything reset, but this time things were different. A giant forest grew around the tree and hid it deep within the forest to protect itself. The princesses saw that Equestria needed help forming, so they took on the task of raising the sun and moon. The ponies of Equestria had been told that things had changed so they had to help with the seasons, weather, and nature itself. The forest had to protect itself from the ponies so it grew and changed on its own. The princesses not long after built their castle in the new forest because they needed to protect it from any dangerous forces. The forest knew that the princesses were going to protect it. So then after that Equestrian history just revolved around the fact that EVERYTHING IS FAKE.

Ooooooh, man now you've really got me thinking.

I always found that scene from season 1 where the Mane 6 discuss the Everfree forest to be somewhat ironic. Apple Jack opens by saying "that place just aint natural", and then the supporting evidence they give for that statement hilariously seems to contradict it instead. In the Everfree forest, everything happens naturally. Intervention from ponies isn't necessary for plants to grow or the weather to occur, and all the animals there take care of themselves.

How did the universe get along before ponies came along and took control of everything? Was there no weather, no sun, and no moon before then, or did everything run itself, much like in our world? And if the latter, how would the ponies of that day have perceived that behavior? If they're anything like the ponies of today, perhaps they would think of it as unnatural, or perhaps even a bit chaotic or random. Heck, when it comes to the weather in our world even I might describe it as a bit chaotic at times. When the ponies took over Equestria, they tamed the weather, seasons, and even the day/night cycles. They took control of everything, even natural processes like the weather. But not in the Everfree forest.

That brings me to another point: the name of the forest. Did you ever stop and think about it for a moment. "Everfree." As in, "free forever"? As in, not under anyone's control? Maybe that's how the Everfree forest got its name.

One final point. Let's go back to what I said earlier about the world running all on its own before ponies took over. Now remind me again who ruled Equestria before Celestia and Luna. That's right, it was Discord. The spirit of Chaos. So before ponies, did Discord handle the weather and such? Probably. Maybe he's connected to the Everfree forest somehow.

Here’s my theory:

Look at the name of the forest it’s called the everfree forest for a reason ever as in like for ever like a long time free as in free it’s loose.
Most likely a long time ago before the royal sisters when equestria was still divided because ther was no friend sure it wasn’t called equestria but called something else it was just for the ever freee forest but then a power full wizard most likely starswirl casted spell on most of the land causing the everfree forest not being able to expand more. But the wizard decided to leave some of the forest because he knew that the forest held lots of magic that could be useful in the future. Then named it everfree to warn others about its magic just think of it ever free it may be called the everfree forest because there is tons upon tons of magic in there that could be expanding for more and more magic just being created over time.

Like I said in an earlier comment, I believe the world Equestia is made of was once Earth, but war and a combination of bomb like super weapons killed the last of the humans and made magic. What if the Everfree Forest grow where humans ounce practiced magic like in the mid evil days? I believe that magic calls out to other froms of magic, and for there to be balance there must be chaos or the lack of control and since everything is controlled the Everfree Forest is nature's way of normality in Equestria. I say that since the show never truly showed us other kingdoms but has stated that there are others. Maybe just maybe the rest of the world is the same as ours but Equestria has so much magic in it that nature has been damage for all of time. For I can't see the other kingdoms letting Celestia or Luna decide how long the day and night cycle lasts unless the two princesses never controlled the celestial bodies, but Discord was able to change it from night to day and day to night when ever and how ever long as he wanted for Equestria as an after thought, so maybe the creation of magic at large damaged certain celestial bodies and the princesses never told the other kingdoms for hoping from starting a war, and the past teams of unicorns for that task before the princesses were kept secret from the other non-pony kingdoms to keep war away from them. But then there's one last theory I have, all the other kingdoms know about this but are scared to attack Equestria since the leaders are powerful enough to control celestial bodies and wish to spear their kingdoms and 'people' the wraith of these gods made flesh.

Actually since we're at the 9th season of MLP now we have plenty of info to go off of, so mabey you can return to this topic some time later. Anyways, here's my take on how the Everfree Forest has Earth physics and Equestrian magic. 1 day, Celestia and Luna were still living in the Everfree, At that time, the Everfree Forest was limited, and there was probably a huge path leading from the Castle of the 2 Sisters, all the way to wherever the normally go. 1 day, during the time Celestia was doing her daily duties and Luna was sleeping from a night of protecting dreams, something happened to the portal that leads to the Equestria Girls Dimension, or somepony mysterious could've come over there, mabey even Star Swirl to practice a new spell, anyways if there was a pony who actually made the portal at the time, they obviously tested it on 1 of the royal mirrors. Since this spell was mostly untested, the portal caused a few things to come out of it, mabey even forcefully sucking things out of our world and into the Everfree Forest. Some of these things would be clouds, a variety of animals, mabey a few plants, and somehow even the paws of physics. Star Swirl, since I think he would be the 1 to make magic powerful enough to do this, then worked on making a spell that would lock the portal for a limited amount of time and when the spell wore off every 30 moons, it would replenish and cause it to lock itself again after the 3rd day of the portal being opened. Now as to why the Everfree forest has so much magic, I think that Star Swirl and the rest of the Pillars attempted to get rid of the things that fell through the portal, but with our world's physics clashing with Equestria's physics, it caused the items to absorb the magic, mostly the animals, causing some animals to fuse together and gain new powers, and some trees could've absorbed the magic as well releasing it in the form of Timberwolves. Another reason could be that since the Everfree Forest was so dangerous, after Celestia and Luna moved to their Canterlot Castle, they began banishing certain monsters to the Everfree Forest when they were dangerous but not dangerous enough to be sent to Tartarus. And another way the surrounding areas absorbing the Pillars magic can be found in Zap Apples, they seem to be created from a strange and powerful magical occurrence, originally created possibly by the magic the Everfree Forest absorbed. Another reason this makes sense is multiple times when Human Twilight in Friendship Games accidentally opens portals, they always lead to the Everfree Forest, which would be very strange since being so close to the portal should mean the Portals open to Canterlot, unless the Everfree Forest and the world of Equestria Girls have a deeper connection, and this is even more proven when in the original Equestria Girls movie, Sunset opens multiple portals to Ponyville, which is literally right next to the Everfree Forest. This would also explain why certain items kept getting sent to the Equestria Girls world. After the invention of the portal, Star Swirl might've used the portal to his advantage by sending the Sirens to whichever dimension it leads to, and in the Equestria Girls series, it's said that someone sent the Memory Stone to their dimension, probably because of how the portal caused both dimensions to be so closely connected. This would also explain a few things in Camp Everfree, where in the forest the camp is in, they fiund 7 special gems which granted them unique powers equivalent to their Equestria counterparts. When the portal was 1st created, it might've not only taken thing into Equestria, but it might've taken those 7 crystals out of it as well, and being in the Everfree Forest at the time the portal would've sent the Gems to the Equestria Girls counterpart of the Everfree Forest. There are of course still a few things I have to address off course. The 1st being when the Tree of Harmont was made, in 1 episode of MLP, Star Swirl said that he and the rest of the Pillars used to contain the Everfree Forest, and they stopped doing that after the Tree of Harmony was planted. The reason for this being that since it's the tree of HARMONY, and since it has been made obvious by now that the Tree of Harmony is alive, it used it's Harmony magic to create Harmony between what leaked out of Equestria Girls and the magic in the Everfree Forest, this is why nothing seems to ever leave the Everfree Forest and why it doesn't spread, because the magic of Harmony keeps it all contained within that area

After reading my friends "diary of the two sisters" I learned that star swirl the bearded showed the princesses the tree, being stunned at the symbols on the tree (their future cutie marks) and learning of its magic, they decided to build their castle there

This is an interesting one, and i think i have a solution. yes, the mirror was in the original castle, yes the tree was planted first, and yes the forest grew around the sisters castle, which in turn forced the sisters to plant the tree, which in turn made them stay. it goes like this. throughout human history there has been magic things like dragons unicorns and gorgons cockatrice and maticores are all through it... perhaps this magic slowly flowed out through the mirror and into equestria. the sisters planted a tree at the base of the castle where the magic may have been leaking in from the other world and to an extent, CREATING equestria. The tree was likely to CONTAIN the magic of the other world, and protecting the magic that was equestria. much like mobius and earth exist as two sides of the same coin in Sonic X, so do equestria and earth. Think of it like... the other side of the mirror. :3

Here's my guess, the tree was always there and so was the portal but the portal wasn't a mirror. Like in many tv shows when a rip in time/space/dementions happens for the first time it's just there not attached to anything. The elements of harmony are what caused this portal to be created and because of our physics and the physics of equestria don't exactly mix will the everfree forest became a den of chaos confined in that one area by the tree that created it in the first place. Discord "god of chaos" was also probably created there at the same time and if he ruled for an "eternal" state then that would line up with the tree starting all the chaos and creating the everfree forest. So the sisters built their castle around the tree to protect it. The fight seen in S4E2 when Luna get's banished you get a look around the outside of the castle and you can see a forest there so they must have cleared the area, dug the trench, then built the castle around the tree. After they removed the elements from the tree to defeat Discoed the tree started to weaken. Everything else is just the domino effect of the tree getting weaker.

The two sisters (this is next part has nothing really solid to back it up) weren't alicors at the time but instead became alicorns after stumbling across the elements. The same way that twilight became an alicorn when the elements shot her into what I'm assuming the rip or the part where the two worlds collide... the spot between both worlds when passing threw the portal where everything is chaotic. Seeing how the two sisters control the sun and moon it makes sense that if discord was always there he controlled the sun and moon until the two sisters defeated him thus taking on the responsibility of the sun and moon. Tree gets weaker because they removed the elements, portal gets tied to the mirror, a long time passes and the physics of our world start to overpower the tree's magic starting S4E1.

Everything makes sense in the everfree forest if you accept that everything in there is basically a power struggle between the two worlds and the the physics that happen when you try to remove magic form a place that's completely dependent on it. That would also explain why Twilight was able to use magic in our world. The physics of equestria (ie. magic) is getting pulled into the human world, turning people into half pony people, element turning a person into a raging she-demon, and the sirens being close enough to see the "rainbowlazerguncannonkillerforfrendship" and use their power. The human world has no need for magic so unless there's something to bring it out the human world is overpowering the pony world.... It makes sense to me.

Well, I've read The Jornural of the Two Sisters, so, here's how it goes: the tree of harmony grew a long time ago and with the unique magic it provided, the EVERFREEFORSET grew. Then, a few days after Cellestia and Luna were crownd, they toured Equestria to find out where they wanted to start building their castle. They choose the EVERFREEFOREST. Tia wanted to live their because of what apparently is the most famous tree in all of Equestria, and Luna wanted it because it was unnatural. ❤️

You already explained why there was still magic, and why it was different. It mixed with real world physics making it chaotic but still in existence. This has some scary consequences for Canterlot though...

Maybe, the strange magic was from the magic the tree lost, and the seeds grew because they had enough magic. Also, what if the tree was planted by zebras? In the journal of the two sisters, Luna found zebras, soon before (or after) they found the tree! This explains why Zecora knows so much about magic, because zebras needed it to grow the tree!

I am a brony fairly new to having a youtube account, but I have been watching your videos for sometime longer. And have an idea for a video: Why are the Mane6 (usually Twilight) so fearful of Celestia? She is a such a kindred spriit, but in episodes like "Lesson Zero" and "A Bird in the Hoof" the ponies were really scared that their kind princess would harm them. Please reply, and I would very much like to see your thoughts on this.

I think I may have an answer to some of your questions, Brony Notion (along with a different theory).

Remember how Discord's plunderseeds were planted in a location really close to the tree of harmony? Let us say that this proximity area about the tree of harmony is the entirety of the Everfree Forest and the nearby Celestia's ruined castle.

Wouldn't it make sense to connect the ruined abandoned castle to the strange nature of the Everfree Forest?
What if at the time the Old Castle was founded, the Everfree Forest was under normal physics?
The Old Castle could possibly have been founded for the sake of the Tree of Harmony, as you mentioned, but I doubt that Celestia would be able to maintain such a living place in the vicinity of an area with such a relatively unknown and wild nature.
Thinking in this manner, one can assume that there was a point in time, when the Old Castle was founded, when the Everfree Forest ran under normal physics like the rest of Equestria.

Taking this assumption to mind, let us bring Equestrian history to play.
When Discord wreaks chaos, he explicitly states that he had planted plunderseeds inside the Everfree Forest in order to attack the Tree of Harmony and also says that they acted 1000 years later because that's when the magic of the Tree of Harmony gave in to the seed's magical force.
What if during this 'planting' inside the Everfree Forest, Discord saw that his plunderseeds wouldn't sprout immediately... so he sought to further debilitate the magic of the Tree's defenses by casting a CHAOTIC spell on the entire proximity area of the entire Everfree Forest?

Comparing the behavior of the Plundervines to the various creatures of the Everfree Forest such as the Timberwolves-- wild, instinctive, carnivorous, and chaotic along with even a sense of artificial origin-- one can say that they both had a common cause, or in this theoretical case, a common creator. 
As a spirit of chaos, Discord might have the potential to create 1000 year environmental and biological effects over a large amount of space even while under stone (And if you stretch this even further by saying he is a transformed Starswirl, then the magic to do this is highly possible).

So, after Discord's defeat (And Luna's banishment soon afterwards) the Old Castle becomes abandoned due to the nature of the Everfree Forest (causing it to come to ruin) and the rest is history.

The castle is abandoned and the Everfree Forest remains under unique chaotic conditions for 1000 years thanks to Discord's magic.

Seeing the previous comments below me saying similar ideas I had of Discord's involvement, the idea clearly should have some merit to it. 

I hope you read this and add to my evidenced thoughts to expand upon this theory, Brony Notion.

Here's my theory:
Celestia and Luna built their castle near the tree of harmony. The Everfree forest did exist, but it was much more gentle and had the same laws as everywhere else. When discord planted the seeds, the chaos magic started to spread through the forest, turning it into the place we know now.

I say that the alicorns choose to live in the middle of a forest and planted the tree of harmony. It's also possible for the tree of harmony to do some pretty crazy things such as changing the everfree forest to what it now is.

Actually, in the Journal of the 2 Sisters it says that Celestia and Luna chose to build the castle in the everfree forest. They discover the tree later on. I think first the tree of harmony grew in the middle of a normal forest. Then, the magic from the tree completely changed it and made it very weird. Then, the sisters chose to build the castle.

Ohhhhhhhhhh who lives in a castle in the land of creeps,


CLESTIA AND LUNA!!!

In my opinion, it all went in this order: Everfree, Tree of Harmony and Celestia and Luna. When the sisters approached the Tree, Luna exclaimed quite surprised "The Tree of Harmony", as though as it had been only a legend until then. Well, then, after taking the Elements from it and defeating Discord I am quite sure that they were afraid to be too far from them in case Discord or something else returned. Thus, they kept them. However, they feared that Celestia´s theory (that the Tree would remain its magic even without the Elements, which proved to be only temporary) was wrong, and so they decided to build their new home near the Tree just in case. Then, after NM happened, Celestia was too hurt because of Luna´s banishment. Unable to use the Elements again due to her guilt, she abandoned them in the Castle, and the castle itself since she didn´t want to stay in a place which brought her so many memories of her sister.


Now, about the Tree and Everfree. The name of the Tree is Tree of Harmony. Pretty subtle, huh? In any case, that´s the point. Ponies must maintain Harmony in Equestria with nature, taking care of it, and with their own kind, since each of the races needs the others in order to survive. Ponies are Harmony for Equestria. And that´s the role the Tree plays in Everfree. The Tree maintains order and independence in Everfree, allowing creatures to live wildly. I prefer to believe that the forest received the Tree from some mysterious force (I don´t know, make up your own headcanon; in mine it is a goddess trapped in crystal) and from then on it became independent.

The everfree forest grew on its own, in twilights first flashback we see celestial banishing her sister in the old castle. BUT there was a scene in that clip outside of the castle and no trees were to be found

I think it all ties into the first ever episode of My Little Pony, Rescue at Midnight castle. Tirek wanted to shroud the land in eternal darkness using a "dark rainbow". I feel like the after he was defeated the dark rainbow spread over a nearby forest, later to be known as the Everfree. The darkness spread over it and...changed it somehow. The heroes of the episode use a "piece of rainbow" to stop the dark one. In the following generations of the show, you never hear of it again. It must have gotten lost. In the forest maybe? The crystalline piece of rainbow growing into a large crystal tree, holding the rainbow power of season 4. The reason the tree of harmony didn't overcome the rest of the forest must be because the tree came afterword. Plus, perhaps the dark magic of the Everfree helped corrupt Luna into wanting eternal darkness. Hmmm.

I think the magic from clover the clever went into the tree, which caused it to be a place of magic, then luna and celestia put their castle there, because of the magic. Then the portal appeared and the real world stuff leaked and up grew the everfree forest, which was fueled by the magic from the tree, and celestia and luna move out. Also, about Zechora, I think she moved into the everfree forest because she was an outcast in ponyville. Please do one on Zechora next!

I know that you've published this video a long time ago, but I just watched it and I have a tiny comment on what you said about the princesses, tree, and the forest. If you've read 'The Journal of the Sisters', you'd know that Celestia and Luna built their castle over the ravine of 'The Tree of Harmony', because "they were both drawn to it." (Page 20 in the journal.) When they came, the tree of harmony was already there, and so was the forest. Also, the tree of harmony was already there. Celestia and Luna didn't plant it. (Also mentioned in the journal. When they were picked to rule Equestria by Star Swirl the bearded, (In the journal) he showed them the tree of harmony for the first time. And the forest was already there as well. P.s.: if you haven't read the journal, you really should. You're missing out on ALOT of stuff. They have the real journal of the two sisters in book stores where celestia , Luna, and later the main six use the journal as a diary. The ever free forest and the tree was harmony were both there before they built there castle there. They chose to build next to the tree on purpose, but it never said If the tree came before the forest or not. That's all that I no

As for the forest in relation to any of this, I have no clue. I sure hope they do something to put more detail about ever free history and the history of the castle of the two sisters. That would help.

It could just be that Everfree has more stronger winds so that will make' s the clouds to move on ther own. I think that the forest grew probably at the same time that that castle of the sisters was in the process of building. Maybe the sisters planted the tree of harmony and used ther magic to keep it alive that my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Well, we can make an educated guess that the tree came AFTER the castle, since they were around before the Elements were created. However, I also doubt that they chose to have their castle built in a large forest either. I personally think that the the tree grew where it did due to the fact that it was near where the Elements were first used. There was a bit of a forest surrounding the castle then, but not to the scale of the current Everfree Forest. The excess of magic from the tree caused the plants to spring out of control, destroying almost every building in the town around the castle. The only reason the Castle survived was that it got protected by a spell Celestia and/or Luna had tried to whip up when the forest got out of hand. They failed though, and the castle was all that got protected. The trees did grow around some houses though, a great example being Zecora's. After that happened, they relocated to a spot where that's less likely to happen. Ponyville is what survived of the capital, making it have a special role that other cities don't seem to share. That's also why Canterlot goes overkill with protection. They don't want it happening again. Well, THAT got complicated.

I just read the journal of the two sisters saying that the sister's wandered into the forest and found the tree of harmony and Celestia and Luna were blank flanks at that point in time and they saw there cutie marks on the tree and were drawn to the trees print of the Sun and moon and built there castle there.

I like to think that the Everfree Forest's laws being similar to that of our own laws can be explained through rift portals. I'm not talking the kind of portals that you can step through to wormhole to another world of fantasy or something, but more like the rifts which are invisible to the naked eye, but can be used freely by things like energy and... well gravity and laws of the planets. The Everfree Forest is likely the site of such a rift, one that is still open and will always be open.

I'd like to also think that because of our laws mixing with Equestrian laws in this fashion over a very long period of time would likely have caused the laws to melt together and adapt to one another, mixing together and combining. It would make sense how the new laws of the Everfree forest, where magic exists in many creatures, but the environment takes care of itself would cause magic and life to go haywire in the other areas of Equestria.

The Tree of Harmony might have been used as a sort of buffer for these laws or energies, to keep them bound to the Everfree Forest, however big it is, and when it succumbed to the plunderseeds temporarily, it's warding fell and that caused the Everfree Forest to invade.

I often find a similar thing happen when you combine instant oatmeal and boiling hot water, you leave it standing for 20 minutes and you try to add more water, the additional water just doesn't mix completely. You can try to make it, but it never will. Not because there's nothing dry to absorb the water, but because the combined substances have remained combined for so long that it's no longer possible to combine it with other things.
You will get a similar result if you try to mix in syrup or other fluids instead of more water.

It's like water and grease. Technically grease has water in it, but it does not mix with straight water if it truly is grease.

But Since Unicorns are not accustomed to the different magic in the Everfree, their magic can't work properly. They Are still conduits of magical energy, they just don't know how to control the new magic from the Everfree's new rules and so the spells go haywire or outright fail, since the Tree was supplying the magic (among other possible sources of magic ofcourse).

I like to believe everything that happens in the everfree forest, the cloud, animal, and plant thing, would normally happen on its own as well. The ponies just never gave it a chance (idk how to explain it) like, as in the ponies changed the laws of the world from their own intervention. The ponies cared for the animals themselves making the animals dependent of the ponies. They planted stuff and became farmers not letting stuff happen naturally, and stuff like that.

My theory is HUMANS used to live in the everfree forest (but with houses and things) and Zecoras house is one of the humans old houses and the ruler of the humans had Celestia and Luna's castle then there was a nuclear reaction or something which killed the humans but made all the NORMAL ponies have human qualities because of the nuclear power but idk lol... Btw I just made this as I went along but it kind of makes sense... XD

i always thought the tree of harmony was a result of the friendship fire, and the everfree forest was the counter balance to the tree while the forest also balances the tree, kinda like a ying uamg approach

We know that the sisters found the tree of harmony and therefore the elements of harmony shortly before they first imprisoned Discord in stone. That would mean the tree came before. The sisters never planted the tree, otherwise they would have always known about the tree.

Maybe some of the magic rampant throughout the evertree forest are results of the powerful magic Luna and celestia carelessly left there so long ago. Perhaps it's seeping out of the castle walls into the plants, plants are quite absorbant as we know. :)

As a point of fact I think I can actually make a pretty good guess, not only how the tree of Harmony came into being but also why the forest is the way it is.

Now again this is a theory, but hay that is what you deal with, and I would love it if you posted this theory on your channel.

Now here is the idea.

In Season 2 Episode 11 Hearth's Warming Eve, we see how Equestria was founded and how the three tribes came to be one. This happens with the second in commands of each tribe putt aside their differences and make friends with the other tribes. This friendship then grows and drives off the attacking windgo for good. Now this is an interesting fact as the Tree of Harmony is in a cave and the elements only seem to work between friends.

Going from there it is not to big of a stretch to believe that a castle was built near or above this spot, as a sign of the friendship between the tribes. Move forward a few years and the tree of Harmony grows from the magic that happened on that day a years back and the marks on the trunk show the first princess signs.

Now as Equstria grows ( I am side stepping a little in the idea but bare with me ) some ponies spilt off and begin the crystal empire. This grows and becomes a great place. Now then we have one of their ponies become evil, the sisters learn about it and fight off said pony defeating him.

Equestria learns of this and the learns summon Luna and Celestia. Seeing the marks on their flanks they show them the three of Harmony. Though none of them would know for sure how it came into being. Later as time moved on Celestia and Luna for one reason or another became princess.

Later when discord attacks they find they cannot beat him the normal way, and as such use the magic of tree itself for the first time defeating Discord. Fearing the power of the tree might oneday fade they would then have lived in the castle, or build one if it had not yet been built, above the tree keeping the elements there, this allowed the elements and tree to keep in semi close contact with each other. This would also explain why the seeds never sprouted fully.


We must then jump forward to when Luna became Nightmare moon. Now for the first time in the show we see something that never happened before, a full fight between the owners of the Elements. Now we see in the fourth season that when Luna raises the moon causing an eclipse it changes her body, suggesting, unless you read the comics, that chaos was unleashed.


Add this, plus the use of the elements, and the amount of magic they both posses it is possible that they themselves caused the magic in the forest to become unbalanced. Or for the magical barrier keeping the chaos seeds at bay to weaken just enough for some of that magic to begin slipping through thus beginning the forests change.

Next I believe Celestia left the castle, and the elements behind, not wishing to remember much of what happened. This would explain why the magic could continue to leak through and thus changing the forest. But with the elements never leave the castle the seeds could never sprout.

Now over the next thousands years this magic was allowed to grow and turned the forest truly wide again. IT is also likely Celestia never returned or had any pony visit the castle as its state of disrepair suggest this much. Meaning Pony magic likely left this area alone. at least till the apples showed up.

finally at the end of a 900 hundred years pones began showing up and building pony ville. But with Celestia warming them away from the forest, likely to hide her biggest failure. No pony dare try and tame the forest.


 In fact outside Zacora no pony is meantion going into there for any reasons at all. But I think it could be controlled as she can live in their. So it is likely if they wanted it could go from 'unnatural' to natural again. If they chose to use their magic to take control again.

Now as to why the vines finally went out of control in season four. Without the Elements of harmony in the castle or at least close enough for at least two years, ( I am using the apple family reunion to base at least a small time scale for smallest time away ), the tree of harmony finally began growing weaker and weaker, till finally those seeds sprouted. Thus allowing the seeds to take over the forest.

I believe this as discord states the seeds should have sprouted sooner than this, meaning he knew about the tree of Harmony.

This does at least fill in a lot of the gaps for the tree, how it came to be, why the sisters lived in the forest, and finally how the forest become the Everfree forest.

If you read the journal of the two sister which has been published by hasbro it kind of does say they built their castle in the middle if the forest as well as explaining many other things about the forest and it's inhabitants.

I think with newer information that it grew as a counter weight to the friendship fire, like with another of his theories it, a yin yang thing friendship fire/forest later named everfree the tree of harmony and the pillars/discord and a stronger everfree

The seeds that Discord threw that nearly killed the tree of harmony could have grown elsewhere as well. So, the Everfree forest could have been a small, sweet wood, before the vines changed everything. As the forest seems to be chaotic magic, the forest base could be the vines. Making it grow into what it is today. And due to the chaotic magic, the life in the forest use that instead of normal Equestrian magic.

Just a random theory.

The Ever free Forest grew around the Tree of Harmony either to protect it or the vanquish it but it is infused with strong energy and magic that repels dark energies

Read the journal of the 2 sisters! I'm tired of telling everybody this! We DO know something! The tree and the forest were there before the sisters built their castle there and it says the reason they built it there in the first place was because they felt there was something speashial about the tree!!! SHEESH!!!!!

In the journal of the two sisters, speaking from celestia and Luna's perspective, they say that they built their castle in the everfree forest to get away from the townsponies (I know it sounds messed up) and they just happen to have found the tree of harmony there so it states no information of the origin

Celestia and Luna were Equestrian princesses, so they must have had somewhere to live. Maybe the everfree forest wasn't always the way it is. As you said, the magic there is chaotic. Maybe the everfree forest grew because of Nightmare Moon's dark influence. The Castle of the Two Sisters was their home at that time, so maybe Nightmare Moon tried to turn it into a world of darkness first, as a test.

What if the seeds dropped by discord were the cause of the forests creation? Some of the seeds could have been halted by the magic while others grew into that mass of interdimensional evil of Discords creation. I mean nearly everything tied to the forest is evil.

The evergreen forest seems full of magic, its probably because of discords seeds, long ago when he was there he spread the seeds, the timber wolves for example, seem to be made out of some tree thing, lets say in theory they would... let me rephrase this. The Timber wolves seem to be made out of wood, wood we all know comes from trees, perhaps the fact that the vine like things shared the same soil as them made them become full of magic. And the magic also might have gotten into the other animals when they ate something that the seeds. 

Sorry, i just thought i would put that there. Anyway, i would like to suggest how everypony seemed so scared of the evergreen forest at first, this would make you assume that nopony would go there. Celestia and Luna are kinda like celebrities, so they would probbly choose there. They being young kids at that time (I would assume from reading the book "The journal of the two sisters") would spread rummors about the place making it sound more dangerous than it was. I would also like to think they found the tree of harmony and it use to be like... a place where one of the three tribes tried to hide because it seemed valuble.

Celestia and Luna must have been with Starswirled the bearded at the time because he would tell them about the tree that unicorns filled with magic(And it would'nt have its magic yet) and somewhat around the time of discord Luna and Celestia bonded very well and mourned Starswirled the bearded's death, planting the tree there. Their bond powered the tree and the elements were created, somewhat looking into the future to find someone who would have great friendship... i guess. And so they fought discord with them and pow, the magic he left over which caused chaos (Chaos would be like moving clouds, it would scare other ponies cause they weren't use to it.), the magic from the mirror (Which brought the human worlds physics, and the friendship magic (People bond over scary expirances :3) which made the evergreen forest so like it is now a days.

So basically:
Celestia and Luna find the forest that everypony was afraid of,
They build a castle,
Their mentor shows them a shiny tree that is full of magic,
Celestia and Luna finish the tree with the magic of friendship (Back then the three tribes weren't friends,)
The mirror is build,
Discord comes,
All three types of magic collide and make the evergreen forest so 'weird'

I have a theory. The tree did grow the forest. This is because the tree was so valuable, so it grew a dangerous forest as a defense, so ponies can't mess with it easily.

Here's my theory: The castle had been there for a long time it was called castle of alcorns because all alcorns used to live there even Tia and Lunas parents the everfree was a result of all the alcorns and there Magic the tree was planted by Tia's parents she found them in her mothers secret Diary witch she later on destroyed so that no pony ever say the secrets hidden in it the theory also explains why twilight could not find anything about the tree of harmony in the castle of the two sisters

Theory: Before Luna and Celestia appeared, Discord ruled over Equestria, which only came to be after the events of Hearth's Warming Eve. The Fire of Friendship, which represents the start of harmony, to be nurtured and strengthened over time, was the "seed" that became the Tree of Harmony. Discord, sensing massive shifts in magical energy, especially of this nature, was drawn to Equestria, and proceeded to destroy the Tree. His attempts were futile, but the surrounding area was altered into, what is now called, the Everfree Forest.

I think the forest and tree existed first as a positive force for good. The sisters built the castle to protect the tree. After Lana was banished, the forest became so dangerous that Celestial had to abandon it. When Twilight returned the elinents, the forest became less dangerous, allowing the ponies to go there more offten. Also don't forget the fire swamp, another dabgerose place that hoses magical cretures

Celestia and Luna chose the everfree forest for them to live so that they can contain the forest and prevent it's "chaotic" magic from going anywhere but in the forest,because Star Swirl who contains the everfree forest before has been trapped to limbo with the other pillars of equestria who made the seed with him that grew the tree of harmony.

i kind of thought that it was a place where star swirl would do his research because of all the books and that is also where star swirl could have bin because of the forest and he could have wanted more info so he built a lab and then the sisters moved in. and the reason why they know so much about it maybe because star swirl taught them or one of his students could have.

if you look at season 4 episode 2 you see Twilight having a flashback. Taking that,i presume that the princesses found the element beat Discord and then became princesses and build there castle on top (too protect the tree?). For the tree of harmonies i believe that the forest is a powerful magic area from long ago and the three is controlling it and maybe some pony planted the tree of harmonies for that purposes   (i mean plant cloud and critter) , as for the plundervines Discord planted them for just that so the forest was not attaching it. Well, I know I'm a bit late, but if my memory is correct the journal of the two sisters tells us that Celestia and Luna built their castle in the preexisting everfree forest because it was near the tree of harmony.

The everfree forest is pretty chaotic and chaos is discord so what if the forest was ordinary until discord changed it to make sure that the princesses don't go to it first when he takes over before Twilight.

i think that when the tree of harmony grew, it linked the pony world to the human world. the mirror was made from that magic, and some of the laws of physics from the human world came in to the everfree forest, and the two very different laws of physics clashed to make a forest that the called the everfree forest. now that there was this forest, the timeline goes: sombra is defeated. Celly and luna are now the rulers, and go to the everfree forest for peace and quiet, and find the mirror. discord comes to power, and they find the elements of harmony so they can defeat discord. and so on and so forth.

My theory is that the magic of the Everfree Forest is just the primordial Magic of Nature.
I believe the EverFree Forest works very much like the tides with Equestria being the "beach" the tide always goes in and out, swallowing the sands before retreating and so on. Meaning the forest engulfs the land before receding back to the state we see it in the show and Pony society sprung up during one of these "low tides" and the Two Alicorn sisters planted the Tree of Harmony to keep the forest from spreading back over the land.

Why would the sisters do this? Well, the sisters may just had to do what they thought needed to be done in order for their idea of civilisation to grow and this is why the Ponies need to wrap up winter and move the clouds and look after the animals. The nature of those places had been disrupted but need to continue in some way for Equestria to remain healthy.

This history would also explain why the Everfree Forest seems so frightening and alien to the Ponies, they've lived under Celestia's ideology of civilisation for so long that they've forgotten the way things used to be. The Tree of Harmony losing it's power would allow the forest to begin the cycle of regrowth all over again but Discords seeds caused the new growth to become almost rabid. Discord's chaos disrupting the nature of the forest just as the Tree of Harmony does just in a different way.

This also ties in on my headcanon of Zecora and her people, they live in a far away place so far away that most ponies don't even know they exist. What if the Magic of Nature is more powerful or more stable in her home land and the Zebra's simply went about living with it in a different way then the Ponies? It would explain Zecora's knowledge of plants and animals as well as her being so comfortable living in the Everfree Forest, it's probably home away from home for her. It might also explain why she nevers moves into Ponyville even after everyone there accepts her, she's already happy where she is and there's nothing stopping her from just visiting the town anyway.

After saving the Crystal Empire, Celestia planted a Crystal seed that grew into the Tree of Harmony. Hence the elements are crystals and not fruit.

There's a book, the journal of the pony sisters/the friendship journal. The pony sisters' section gives a ton of the sisters' backstory. I don't actually know if it's cannon or not, but it states straight out that the Forest was strange before they even built their castle, and they chose that location for that very reason.

Don't forget, in the pilot Twi says that the castle of the two sisters is in "What is now the Everfree Forest" so it wasn't the Everfree Forest when the castle was built, even if the forest was there.

Um... in the same episode where Everfree forest invades, when Twilight looks back in time to when Celestia and Luna get the elements of harmony from the tree, the way they spoke about it was less, "It's a very special tree that we planted!", and more, "This tree is incredible! It is very important, but we need the elements, so..." I think that there might even be a line making it quite obvious that they didn't plant it.

Spoilers for anyone reading the comics:

Even thought it's "B" cannon the comics show that Everfree is influences by a race of deer folks that live deep in the forest. Their magic is like WoW's druid magic while everyone else outside of Everyfree is using Night Elf arcane magic. Which would make Zecora  Malfurion Stormrage becasue by the end of the story she ask them to teach her their way of magic. While Fluttershy would be Broll Bearmantle because she displays a natural ability with connecting to nature.

I think that Discord created the Everfree forest, after the Castle of the Two Sisters was built. The tree of harmony was the only thing in the Everfree forest that wasn't corrupted because of the concentrated harmony in the tree combated the discord from Discord. As for the tree's origins... I still have no idea.

I would also like to factor in the "pony of shadows" possibly affecting the timberwolves, etc.

In one of the episodes(The first discord one) Celestia says this "So after we discovered the elements of harmony we defeated discord" so therefore we can safely assume it wasn't planted by celly and luna.

I think the sisters built a castle over the cave of where the tree resided many years before, possibly to guard it. Then the forest grew around the castle. It just seems to make sense to me that way.

That early season description of the Everfree Forest is now outdated. We know that ponies take control of the world around them and are used to that. But what sets the forest apart from the other areas outside Equestria, which also have everything occur naturally, is how it FIGHTS against magic. The forest is unique for it's refusal to be controlled by ponies. That is the scary part about it. And that is probably the tree's doing as it is outright stated that it is projecting a shielding force around the area. So we have two facts. A magic shield and the inability to magically affect things in that area. Seems pretty clearcut to me. The Tree's magic is countering the pony magic to tame the forest.

I don't think I needed any knowledge from the later seasons to work that out, but it does help to know that nothing is gonna come along and disprove it.

I beg to differ on your theory. If you read the Journal of the Two Sisters, it specifically states that Celestia and Luna chose to build the castle in the Everfree forest, meaning that it had already existed. It also claims that Luna befriended a manticore named Marvin, as did Fluttershy in the first episode. I've also noticed that if you pay attention to the way that younger Celestia and Luna act and respond to things, their personalities appear to be a combination of the mane six. Celestia is a mix of Twilight, Rarity, and Applejack, and Luna is a mix of RainbowDash, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie. It may seem odd when you compare it to the show, but in the book it makes total sense. (Well, in my opinion, anyway.)

I think celestia and Luna planted the tree to keep Equestria safe. After all, Discord's plants or tree things would have grown faster and the main 6 wouldn't be able to stop the tree. So , Equestria would be dumped. Besides ,celestial was trapped besides the tree, and the main 6 weren't even born yet .

I think is an abandoned forest. Remember the first episode Twilight said "What is now... The Everfree Forest!" So it wasn't always like this. There is a book series called the Land of Stories and in that book there is a Drawf Forest where crimmals hide. Well, the Everfree may be the same.

I think that the Tree was there first. Because of the Elements and the Tree itself the surrounding area would be overflown with magic. Based on that Celestia and Luna choose that spot for their castle (and because one of the strongest magical artifacts in Equestria would be close enough to get there soon when there was a threat).
I think that, like you said, the Mirror was brought into the castle, and over the years, when the portal opened, our laws of physics would start influencing the flora and fauna surrounding the castle, thus creating the Everfree Forest. After the Nightmare Moon Incident, I think Celestia and any staff would abandon it and move, thus stopping any control over the flora and fauna, which allowed the Forest to grow to the size it is today.

But this is just my (possible wrongly spelled) theory. Curious about what you think of it, Brony Notion.

According to the journal of the two sisters, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia found the tree of harmony while adventuring the everfree forest and built their castle near it. But sometimes, the animaters forget the books they published and change the whole story so Hasbro is being such a confusing company.

Actually LUNA chose to build the castle there and the tree has been there long before they built the castle there according to the journal of the two sisters book. And also Luna discovered the manticore, a herd of zebra, and Timberwolves in the everfree forest

My theory is that the Tree of Harmony controlled the magic of the Everfree Forest. However Discord's seeds made the forest more chaotic as the Tree of Harmony's magic died due to the Elements taken from it. Ever since the Mane Six put the Elements back into the Tree, the forest actually looks normal. Ever since season 4 has anything chaotic come out of the Everfree? There have been no magical creatures that have threatened the lives of the ponies in Ponyville to so far and even the Mane Six went into the forest to restore it. So it was all due to the seeds of Discord.

Here is what I think, I think the tree of harmony was planted by star swirl the bearded for the princesses to keep the elements safe and since the magic was already there after they planted the tree the princesses decided to build the castle near it, after the castle was abandoned over 1,000 years ago the forest grew around it collecting the tree's "magical essence" and preduced it in the forest.
And that is what I think.

Actually, according to The Journal of The Two Sisters, they DID choose to build their castle in the forest, for privacy reasons mainly.

I think the Everfree Forest was already there when Luna and Celestia built their castle there. Plenty of wood to build with, to burn for warmth and cooking, ... In the book "The Journal of the Two Sisters" that's how it goes at least.
The Tree of Harmony is in this forest, and my theory why the Everfree Forest turned out to be so wild is because, being so harmonic itself, it sucked all the Harmony out of its surroundings (until there was no more harmony to suck out, since what little magic it had had left after the Elements of Harmony had helped it grow its roots, so to say)! That would explain why it's got stuff like Poison Joke (or however you spell it), those crazy wooden dogs and all manner of creatures, don't you think?

Luna and celestia waged their campaign against discord from the ever free forest the best hiding spot from a being that can sense magical imbalances. After discovering the tree and taking the elements from it. They established their castle nearby incase they needed to return the elements in a hurry. That leaves the only explanation that the tree is older than the forest and the forest grew around it. My guess is that the magic around the tree is so primal that the forest follows the natural laws of physics and natural order.

Answer:discord. After the sister built the castle discord came and made the forest. This explains why the castle is in ruins sorta. For the tree since Celestia and Luna so so much about the elements that probably explains that they found the tree (hint discords all over this) and also found the elements of harmony inside the tree. Ok about the discord part: Star swirled the bearded video maybe star made the elements but since he didn't have friends he made the tree to contain the elements. But when the spell back fired maybe it made him forget about the tree. Then the princesses found the tree and elements. Then the normal history: discord turned into stone, luna sealed to the moon, and so forth and so on. Well there's my theory hope you like it!

As for the location of Tia and Luna's original castle, I think that they chose that spot because it was an intimidating place. Why is that? Because of the secrets it housed. Apart from the secret passages, the castle also has many hidden relics. One piece of evidence is Inspiration Manifestation. That book would have been very dangerous for a unicorn. Who knows what else it might have housed? Tia and Luna probably chose that location because ponies were already afraid of the forest and,the chances of a pony stumbling by at the castle by mistake were very rare, so that was the perfect location. I think the tree was first, then the Castle, THEN Everfree in it's current form after Nightmare Moon since the elements were dormant and the tree busy keeping the plunder vines dormant.

Luna and Celestia didn't know about the tree of harmony for a while. If they did, why didn't the get the Elements of Harmony waaaaay before Discord's rule? I think that after looking through the Everfree Forest, they found the tree and then after defeating Discord, made a castle. If you just look at them during Twilight's flash back things in the season four premiere, they looked pretty beet up. Like the were journeying though a dangerous forest. I think the Tree was there first and the forest then grew around it, to protect it. Then the sisters went through the forest and found the tree. Another theory is that originally equestria had no magic and then suddenly popped up (like what happened in adventure time) but there was still spots where there is no magic, and the tree is a counter act to prevent the non-magic from spreading over equestria

I theorize that when Princess Celestia banished Princess Luna to the moon using the Elements of Harmony, some kind of residual magic lingered. Princess Celestia moved to Canterlot, and the Everfree Forest grew in the area where the magic was scattered.

I think that some of ur assumptions are right about our physics but i think the magical creatures came from outside the ever free forest and since ponies we're taking all the land they claimed the ever free forest as their home or, they came from the tree of harmony

I recon the Everfree forest is what all of Equestria looked like before the ponies came into existence. I believe chaos magic is the building block of life in the mlp universe. Just like our law of life is survival of the fittest, their law is survival of the most advantaged. The chaos magic gives rise to completely random creatures, giving them body parts and abilities that will either help the creature survive to pass on its genes or putting the creature to a disadvantage to more stable creatures. This is seen from the most "normal" looking creatures like the ponies, mauls, donkeys, birds, cattle, dragons ect, having the most supreme advancements in life and the rarer creatures like the Manticors, Chimeras and the other inhabitants of the forest being more chaotically put together and not as successful (clearly seen by the Chimera's embarrassing defeat by Applejack and Applebloom). So, I think the Everfree forest came first, followed by the tree of harmony, then Celestia and Luna's castle.

For me, the Everfree Forest that appeared after Celestia and Luna left the castle ruins of  ´´the nobles sisters´´, however, they did´nt locate his castle in the forest because the tree of harmony was there. My explanation might be: Celestia and Luna were looking for new land, they came ;to what is now; the Everfree Lorest and they located there, Discord arrived. They found the tree of harmony and defeated Discord. Then Luna revealed, Celestia and Luna fought, Celestia abandoned ruins. For then ,the Everfree Forest grew by surroundings of the ruins and the tree of harmony.

Maybe Celesta planted the tree when Luna was a baby, so they've lived there ever sins they where born until nightmare moon destroyed it and maybe Discord maid the forest like he made that plant that drained the tree of its power.

Now that season 7 & 8 are out, now we know that the pillars (rockhoof, mage meadowbrook, flash magnus, & starswirl)planted th e tree of harmony, so, the tree of harmony has been there for a while. (At least a millenia)

I think it would have been a cool theory if the Everfree forest grew out of the magic radiation that got released in the battle between Celestia and Nightmare Moon. Like when enormous amounts of magic get released, a fraction of it just kinda gets into the soil and starts to infest the enviroment. You know, like nuclear fallout, but with magic.
And with a battle between two gods, even a small fraction of the released magic is power beyond the imagination of a normal being.

Sadly, Starswirl destroyed that theory in "The Beginning of the End" when he said that the forest existed before the tree of harmony. (Darn it, Season 9!!) Also the battle between Celestia and Nightmare Moon was kinda underwhelming and it doesn't look like enough magic was used to make this theory plausible.

Think in magic, all magic has the dark side n good side. Maybe the forest n the tree of harmony is meant to keep the darkness of magic. Magic needs its balance. Even though celestial knows the tree of harmony very well, luna might know about the forest better.

Well, now in 2018 we know Star Swirl and the pillars create the Tree of Harmony, creating by accident the Element that eventually Celestia and Luna would find, so, maybe the castle was already there and the Tree grow up and years later Celestia and Luna find the elements. When Nightmare Moon was banished in to the moon, I suppose, Celestia abandoned the castle and the forest grow eventually with the help of the tree to stay independent. IDK I'm just thought a theory.

How about this: the everfree forest wasn't like it's not before because of the macig from the tree of harmony. When Discord started spreading chaos everywhere the two sisters found the tree and took the elemts. though the tree still had enough magic to keep discords seeds from speading, the magic still weakend more and more allowing other stuff in the forest to happend. Since it still had some magic how ever, some of these things, like the thimberwolfs, were made magical in one way. I can't really remember hearing anything about the everfree forest since this episode, so maybe things are slowly going back to "normal"?

my own fav theory on the everfree forest is that its a weak point between worlds in equestria, aside from magicly made ones ex the mirror to the EG world. weak points in space time would definitly have an effect on the world around it, for example, wild magic, in the case of equestria. and on another note... no. the princesses definitely didn't grow the tree of harmony. its mentioned in that very episode that the princesses had been looking for it, which obviously wouldn't be the case if they had been the ones to set it there

I think before Celestia and Luna became princesses and decided to build their castle in that area there was someone, or somepony, probably an alicorn, that created a seed with its magic from wich the tree was born. And for making sure that it would have stayed protected until it was fully grown the alicorn spread its magic around the area so nopony could have disturbed the tree while growing, giving birth to the Everfree Forest. I'm not exactly sure about the creatures: maybe they were affected by the magic in the air, or something else.

I think that something went down there during the time before discord when technology might have existed(I'm going with a dark age of technology here and discord is the age of strife) and that some experiment went wrong\right and the forest was created sorta like The Zone from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if any of that is right, but it relies on that time between Hearthswarming and Discord arriving or created, and we have even less on that than we do on the Everfree itself, gosh darn Hasbro we need information we're tired of headcannoning!

In that episode luna and celesta found the tree of harmony together so that means they probably built the castle by the tree of harmony to look after it and they did built the castle in an open spot right next to the tree of harmony then when night mare moon came on destroyed the castle and got banished to the moon celesta moved to canterlot

I think that the forest grew around the castle because in the episode Princess Twilight Sparkle in twilight's flashback (or Celelestia's) when she was about to banish Nightmare Moon, she destroyed the castle with her magic Celestia flew out and and what I found intresting is that when Celestia flew out there were houses and buildings there. I don't think Celestia planted the tree of harmony. It's a power far beyond her, the full power of the tree of harmony exceeds the collective power of all the ponies in equestria after all.

I think that the Everfree forest grew around the Castle of the Two Sisters. In Twilight's first flashback she ended up in the castle and when she flew out I think I saw other buildings like the castle was in the middle of a kingdom. But that probably was the castle itself Im not sure.....

As for why there is magic in the forest, what I think is that the animals in the forest were in fact created from the Tree's magic. Let me give you an example. Timberwolves. Here's my theory of how they formed. First the powerful magic that was in the Tree might have traveled out of the Tree and into the forest. Some stray rocks and leaves and branches and stuff might have picked it up. The stray nature might have started to pick it up, but instead of turning into a peaceful creature, it turned into a harmful one. Why? Because of the environment. The Tree had provided the magic, but somehow the magic could sense the environment and took that spooky desire and transfered it into the nature. Not on purpose. See, without any pony to control it, it had no order or possession. So it just took the surrounding desire and created the Timberwolves. But I'm not saying that the magic had a will. What I'm saying is that the magic simply did what it first sensed. Let me know your thoughts on thus theory

My thought is that the tree of harmony came first because the elements were found there the the princesses built their castle after defeating discord later they put the element in there castle for safety then when luna became nightmare moon part of the castle was destroyed then nightmare moon was defeated another part of the castle was destroyed later celestia went to live in canterlot meanwhile the castle was ruined and due to nightmare moon dark magic and the element there were strange thing that was created so first came the tree of harmony then the castle later the everfree forest

O, O! Maybe Discord made it long ago, and the royal sisters planted the tree of harmony to stop the forest's magic from spreading! That's why it has chaotic magic and it's so different. And they built the castle to watch the tree. It would explain Twilight's line:" What is now the Everfree Forest."

What if: our laws of physics started disintegrating the equestrian laws and the magic as a means of escaping bound it''s self to what ever it could, leaves and sticks and such. it would also explain why it timberwolfs are so dangerous because the rampant magic can keep reanimating them, where as outside they just turn into wood when defeated. (ala spike at your service)

The tree of harmony couldn't have grown from the 2 princesses because in season 2 episode 1 while Celestia was explaining how they turned Discord to stone, she said something in the lines of "AFTER we discovered the elements of harmony, we turned Discord into stone." Celestia wouldn't have said AFTER WE DISCOVERED THE ELEMENTS OF HARMONY if she and Luna had already known what the elements were and where they were (because they discovered the elements of harmony). So that theory doesn't make sense.

In season 7 the pillars planted the tree of harmony and I think the forest growsed around the castle

there is a book showing why the sisters chose to live in the forest. for anyone who wants to read the book and find out the book is called the book of the two sisters. this book was shown in one of the later videos.

The Everfree Forest is full of chaotic and wild magic the chaotic magic relates to discord and the seeds he planted started to grow from there and of all the places in equestria discord decided to make ponyville which is next to the Everfree Forest the chaos capital of the world. I think discord plant the everfree forest the timber wolfs, the mirror pool and the other magical things in the forest are quite relatable to discord

I think there are 8 elements of harmony because the alicorn amulet and the crystal heart. We're did they come from I mean the 6 elements came from the tree but we're did those come from? It's a question I can't answer and I need help with it. The amulet is dark magic so there might have been a dead part of the tree on the back that made the amulet and maybe another can be created. As you know the chest was a seed and the crystal heart might be the seed to another tree that will produce more elements. So what I'm thinking is that there are 8 and the most powerful one is the crystal heart but that's just a theory of mine so does anyone else think this? If you do then reply to this and try to find out more about this theory.

Its likely the forest grew around the castle. The human laws of physics leaks into equetria, so trees are capable of growing on their own.

I dont think the princesses grew the tree. The magic in the everfree forest is different like u said. Maybe when equestrias laws of physics conflicted with ours, it forms dark, chaotic magic. But if so, why is the tree of harmony's form of magic isnt the same? I dont think the tree of harmony's magic is dark. That leaves this theory incomplete : /

My theory is the crystals to make the portal in Equestria Girls come from the Everfree.
There are also other crystals to other worlds and the physics, laws, flora, and fauna come through these portal crystals into the pony world. That could explain why there are so many mysterious happenings in the Everfree Forest

i think star swirl might have planted the tree with the magic of the elements of harmony which were kept safe by celestia and lunas parents but when they died they could not keep the evil everfree forest in place so it grew wich set off the show fim so thats my head canon and thought for this theory

I think they have built it in the forest and the forest from the tree and that Deboom for the animals and plants and the weather ensures that the princesses have their castle built there omdatze than close to a large source of magic.

So I think that the tree of hamony was planted and powered by the princesses but when Luna was sent TO THE MOOOOOOOOOON! The magic weakened so celestia found the laws of physics in our world and used it in the forest so she only had to focus on that one tree but as Luna came back she loosened her magical grip on the tree and the everfree took over

i think the magic comes from when celestia and luna were babies because they would have random spurts of magic and alicorn magic is way stronger than unicorn magic so it made the forest around there home so infused with magic it became the everfree and one tree absorbed enough magic that it had to make the elements of harmony otherwise it would die from all the magic inside it

okay so here's my theory the sisters built there castle near the tree because well magic, and then since the tree's environment was disturbed the forest grew around the tree to protect it. I think.

well i think the tree grew that made all the other trees magical and animals and that made weird creatures so ever since Luna must have been banished maybe the Everfree forest must have been Corupted so that must have made dark magic to the forest and the castle as you said MUST have been there until well in another video are there more Alicorns i agree cause they must have had parents so anyway maybe after there parents must have had something happen to them they must have moved and then Luna as nightmare moon found the tree and got the elements of harmoney to the castle on episode 2 season 1 now its posible the tree might have created dark magic but aren't the elements of harmony for good not bad?

I think that Everfree Forest is only place left from "original" Equestria, Equestria before magic. Or, before controltable magic. Magic came to this world only millions years after ponies, and "natural growing" magic, like Tree of harmony, was first kind of that magic.

I think that Cellestia and Luna built there castle in an open area. But a war came and they had to plant the forest to pretext them. And Luna made the creatures from others nightmares to help protect them but it backfired and made them evil instead of good. That also explains why their castle was destroyed. And maybe the two princesses parents might have planted the tree of harmony because one of them could see the future and saw discord and chaos. So tree came 1st then castle 2nd and forest last.

One more thing about my silly theory..well Maybe the alicorns before Celestia and Luna had decided to put their castle there because they saw the tree..And maybe..MAYBE they saw the cutie marks.. and of course they probably didn't have Cele or Lulu at that time because they were probably thinking of a good place to put their castle...Maybe they came up with the theory that the cutie marks on the tree meant something...Of course the tree DOES loks magical and maybe when they saw it in the middle of the forest they knew it wouldn't be normal. It probably got to their mind that it was a good place to PUT the castle and/or they thought that if they had put their castle in the Everfree Forest where NOPONY does anything about the sky as it is natural just like in our world..When they had their fillies they wouldn't have to be rushed to learn about how it works. So maybe the Royal Parents thought that if ANYTHING happened to them then their fillies wouldn't have to learn about the way the sky works when they're young. Just so the Royal Alicorns could spend time with their fillies and not have to worry aboiut teaching them and just spend family time with them.

I think Discord was born in the Everfree Forest, and when Luna and Celestia first defeated him, all his chaotic magic ran into the forest.

Maybe Discord has something to do with it; maybe during his first time taking over Equestria, a little bit of his chaotic magic stayed in the forest.

I think that the Tree was around much longer than Tia and Luna, but at the same to e time I think it wasn't, and there might an explanation besides the Royal Sisters planting the tree. Here's why... Twilight saw in the flashback that the Elements of Harmony were housed in the Tree of Harmony. But then again, as we are learning piece by piece how Star Swirl the Bearded and the three tribes were in fact the creators of the Elements, there is no evidence that the Tree even existed in their time. Or perhaps maybe it was created afterwards. Let me know what you think of this theory.

Probably celestia and Luna found the tree of harmony, then they built their castle. The strong amount of magic combined with the laws of our world would make the forest to grow so special

What if the everfree forest was a normal forest but the tree of harmony was there. The sisters would have built their castle there so they could protect it.But when they used the elements were used against discord, all his magic went into the forest. So that's why it's so weird. Discord couldn't control his magic, and it did what it wanted (this is discords magic we're talking about), but was limited to the forest.

Perhaps at one point of time to much magic was released in the everfree forest wich allows everything to expand and evolve in magicle mistery cure we see rarity useing Magic to move the clouds so again meaby since to much magic is flowing the forest is alive due to the tree of harmony keeping the magic flowing so the forest brings the cloud to where it is needed and the animals has been living on there own due to every pony abandoning the area for some reason so the adapted to survive. Well in Twilight's flashback when Nightmare Moon was banished, Celestia was chased by Nightmare Moon, and they were in a city-like environment...so they were in the castle of the two sisters... which means the everfree forest came AFTER luna's banishment!!!!

Read the journal of the 2 sisters its explained and it was lunas idea to build it in the everfree forest they didn't plant the tree of harmony and just read rhe book it explains alot of things

I want to personally know what is in the center of that forest.  Is the Tree of Harmony the center and heart of the forest or is it away from that area and just has such a huge magical affect that the forest on the other side won't grow?

My Theory-the Tree of Harmony was first, and perhaps the forest grew around it idk, but when the royal sisters took the elements from the tree it lost a great deal of its power however since they still lived in the forest it was okay. Jump ahead to Luna becoming Nightmare Moon and the elements were used to destroy that which was once 50% of what represented it that including the fact that Celestia abandoned the area after that could have caused the forest to become in a sense insane which could also possibly explain why the magic slow drained from the Tree of Harmony losing the elements physically was okay since they were still in a good distance but losing them all together could have caused a devastating reaction of course the problem with this theory is that the elements were given back to the tree by the mane 6 the only possibly explanation for why it is still "ever-free" could be that it took a thousand years for the forest to devolve into what it is today so it could also be that it will take another thousand years for the tree to regain control of the forest. I think that the castle of the two sisters came after the tree of Harmony and then the forest grew around the castle

It seems the crystal empire was around for almost as long (if not longer than) Celestia and Luna. So, possibly previous civilizations' magical ponies ( unicorns/Possibly previous Alicorns?)  planted it. Celestia and Luna's palace was there long before canterlot, and they chose the spot to help protect the tree. After Nightmare Moon came on the scene some 1000 odd years ago, Celestia moved out from the palace, which was wrecked from their battle. Like anything left for a long time, it became overgrown. Thanks to the tree and possible left over magic residue from Celestia's and Nightmare's battle, the Everfree started to grow. With ponies being scared of the creatures that started to live there, nopony touched it, letting it grow into what it is today.

yes but in that same episode doesnt the potion show that celestia and luna find the elements of harmony from the tree meanin that they couldnt have planted it, so therefore it would explain that they probably most likely built the castle in the forest or just when the forest sttarted growing they built it and possibly celestia and luna didnt want to keep moving the clouds or something and casted a spell to allow them to move on their own. What if some pony(unicorn) or alicorn somehow cast a spell so strong that malfunctioned that it focus the lay lines in the area and created the original ever free forest......

I think that the animal discord is was originally lived in that forest. Which explains why there's so much chaos there,and the flying clouds. So that's my theory

I think that Tia and LuLu built their castle then, using another brony's (or pegasister) head canon, because of the powerful magic of alicorns (Celestia and Luna's mother and father as well) the everfree forest built it's self around the castle

I'd say the strangest thing int the Everfree Forest is the Self-Controlling Weather System.

Celestia and Luna probably chose to build a castle in the middle of the forest, so that it would make it harder for villains or bad ponies (or whatever) to find them. After all, that Everfree forest is full of magic and strangely weird creatures. Though that didn't stop Discord, the royal sisters would still have more time to prepare. I can see this fitting in really well, because notice how Canterlot is built on a cliff. I makes it harder for the antagonists to reach the royal sisters. Even after 1000 years, Celestia would have the same ideas in how to have more time preparing for an antagonist.

In twilights flash back, luna said "I cant believe the tree of harmony is real"but I dont get that the tree is located literally next/under there home castle.

I, personally think that the tree of harmony came first, creating a forest full of magic (yet not necessarily the magic we see in it today) and, it being a good place to put a castle inhabiting royalty, poof, they put the sisters down. However, the two sisters are the most magical ponies in equestria (at that time) and were only fillies. Much like how Pound and Pumpkin's magical abilities were random and chaotic, Luna's and Celestia's could have been too. And, since their magic was so powerful, it was uncontrollable at one point and spread unnaturally into the forest. Now explaining the tree and mirror pond and stuff, it was all their before the sisters came. The sister's castle was built there to protect or to guard these items, as I could guess, them being royalty and all, there would be guards at the castle or at least near it, very frequently.

Guys, the everfree forest was nice and fine and beautiful and flourishing, but remember nightmare moon got mad and destroyed the castle and celestia had to move her castle. Well nightmare moon used the castle of the two sisters as her lair. That day plants were poisoned causing the evergreen forest to wither away and be all...you know....ugly and demented. That's why I think the evergreen forest is demented.

We do know that the sisters discovered the tree which means they probably built the castle after and the forest was probably just a forest but after some animals discovered the tree they turned into monsters as there are no good magical creatures just bad ones. So the tree probably has some negative effect on creatures like in our world, some plants can be a medicine while all other animals are allergic.aslo they lived there when Luna turned bad and when she came back she lived in canterlot, so without her sisters help she couldn't handle the chaotic nature they moved but the main 6 can survive because friendship is better than power.

I think things went this way: Celestia and Luna found the elements in the tree and take them from it to defeat discord but Discord know of the tree and plants seeds to destroy it.  That's why i think that tre tree caused both. Celestia and luna built their castle there and the "bad seed" (i love joke XD) make ever free forest grow. Celestia moved to canterlot when she banished Luna (but make the elements stay in the forest near their birthplace), and the forest take control of everything.

Here's what I think: Celestia and Luna build their castle in the forest because the forest is full of strange magic and since their magic is so strong together their magic create the tree of harmony. I think I heard in one of the episode that Celestia said they build their castle in the forest because the forest has a lot of magic.

Could be that onces, Equestria was natural like our world, but the ponies with their magic in a way enslaved nature. The everfree is where all the remeaning energy of nature stil lives. Lots of "Monsters" live there, as they find the rest of Equestria distrubing due to The pony magic. Timberwolves can very well be "Antibodies" that tries to keep ponies out.

One more thing, When Starswirl the Bearded showed Princess Luna and Princess Celestia the tree they all decided to build the castle by it so they would be able to rule Equestria easier, But BUT that's one thing you can believe, I am not sure I want to, I mean the book goes against really good headcannons that make sense, But again this is just what Hasbro says. I am still going back and fourth deciding what to believe, 'cause sometimes you always want to give Hasbro a punch in the face if they were a pony :P. Like that time when they added the castle...I'm getting WAY to ahead of myself...I should stay on topic. So the book says that Luna, Celestia, and Starswirl all decided that it was a great place to build their castle so the tree could help them rule Equestria a little bet easier, but that's what Hasbro says,  you don't have to believe it, I am thinking I probably shouldn't believe it but that's something we have from Hasbro.

In german, the everfree forest is named "Wald der ewigen Magie", so in english it would be "Forest of endless Magic". I dont know if thats a translate mistake or its a clue on what is going on in there

I have a theory that the prinsess sisters built before the forest was but why would they build a castle in Pony Vill than why not make Pony Vill the capital of Equestria? My theory is that some of discordes seeds managed to grow thus creating the forest. I think the tree of harmony came first form the early ages of equistira either from the alicorn kingdom or star swirl the beared. magic form is in the shape of a star because that is it physical form,representation or manifestation even in the creation of the universe it looks like that like a star in the big bang. MAGIC was very important to the alicorn and all types of magical beings both good or bad. light magic or good magic is for peace and harmony but dark magic equal destruction and disharmony across the world or on a grander scale the universe . so normal magic is magic that runs on no emotion and no feeling (happiness or sadness ). it is my theory that a powerful race or entity use their power to create the to protect the world from darkness but if the tree dies darkness will devour the world. the tree as a star symbol like the crystal empire cause magic was important and sacred and their magic was the key to return piece. the tree of harmony runs of the power of the elements of harmony and the elements runs of a postive energy and the mane six were granted the power so they can protect the world and the tree from harm . so this explains magic and the tree a little bit more . twilight elements is the magic of their entire existence,world or universe . however planted it needed a lot of magic it could be one or more sources or an entire nation,so this is magic of the tree but the forest must be negative magic I will talk about that later bye☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺😆🌌🌠❇✨👑💎

Maybe Discord created the Everfree Forest as a Hideout before he was turned to Stone by The Royal Sisters. He might have wanted a place as magical and nonsensical as he was. A place to hide the Tree of Harmony.

Nonono, it's all wrong! The Everfree did grow from Discord's seeds. It's full of chaos magic, hence ponies can't control it. Here's what I got:

Before everything, that place was rich in natural resources (Heart's Warming Eve), and by that I assume it already had a lot of magic - from the Tree of Harmony (which had only been discovered later) to the mirror pond and other stuff we still don't know about. The old Castle of the Two Sisters was built there when ponies founded Equestria. Shortly after, Discord attacked for the first time, leaving his seeds of chaos right before being turned into stone - but due to the Tree of Harmony, they couldn't grow. Fast foward to 1000 years "ago" according to the show's timeline, when Luna turned into Nightmare Moon. Celestia used the Elements against her and that affected the balance of harmony in that place. Not because of this, but rather for her own personal reasons, she decided to move Equestria's capital to Canterlot.
That place was then abandoned completely and, with the Elements even further from the tree, the seeds' magic started spreading around and growing; but instead of Discord-driven, "amusing" chaos magic it was a darker, wild kind of magic (I like calling it "green" magic, the reason Zecora lives there even though it was dangerous). You can see most of the forest's animals are made of "non-living" material (rockadiles, timberwolves etc.) so they were certainly originated there while other creatures like the hydra, the manticore and the cockatrice could have migrated from other places in Equestria, like the Badlands.
In the spam of over 1000 years the place was left untouched, leaving room for it to evolve as a single organism. But once it started attacking (as it was supposed to do in the first place, as Discord stated) and the Elements of Harmony were taken back to the Tree, the balance was restored and the green magic was wiped away. The Everfree Forest is now just an average forest... with a bunch of animals that shouldn't be there. It's no longer that much a threat, which is why everypony seems so casual in going to the Castle of the Two Sisters.

The everfree forest presented as a mysterious place that is home to a variety of creatures and animals.  Twilight Sparkle reads the book The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide in  Friendship is Magic, part 2, when  It specifies that the Elements of Harmony's last known location is in the ancient Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters, which is located in the everfree forest. When they set out on an adventure,  Applejack surmises that "It ain't natural; folks say it don't work the same as Equestria". The everfree forest is mentioned more than once as a place of banishment. When Rainbow Dash panics over her impending performance in Sonic Rainboom, she fears of banished into the Everfree Forest for her failure. In the episode Too Many Pinkie Pies, Pinkie Pie ventures into the Everfree Forest to look for a magical pond that she recalls from a nursery rhyme which is the Mirror Pond. She recites, "And into her own reflection she stared, yearning for one whose reflection she shared, and solemnly sweared not to be scared, at the prospect of being doubly mared!" Don't forget that  It is also where Zecora makes her residence. maybe she has something to do with the events which ponies consider "unnatural". Zecora could be cappable of this because Twilight trains in the forest with Zecora in order to defeat Trixie after she loses to her thanks to Trixie's Alicorn Amulet in the episode Magic Duel. And she even has knowledge of magical ailments which could help with so called "unnatural things" but Zecora might be the magic behind it.

I've only read part of the journal of two sisters or what ever that book is called... But my friend got it at briny con and it might say something in there about the forest and the tree of harmony. But the tree of harmony... It has harmony in the name so I think that when Luna and celestia found/planted it, that it would do good things. So my point is that I think that the tree of harmony made the forest whenever it did bad things because let's face it... Note that the tree of harmony appears to be a magical crystal powered by positive emotion. Sound familiar? It is much like the crystal heart, although with a different purpose. Although the crystal heart was used to stop Sombra, the fact that he locked it away suggests that it pre-dates him so what was it for? (yes this is relevant, bear with me) I believe the Crystal Empire was the original homeland of the ponies, and that a group of Earth ponies with at least one Unicorn mage (I believe it was said that a council of mages or something like that was responsible for moving the sun and moon back then) stayed behind to try to save their home. The crystal heart was created by the one mage to repel the Windigos, hence the land being frozen in snow. This is also the reason for the blizzard when Sombra came back- he didn't do it, the Windigos were feeding off him. Since their land was protected by a crystal that made them look crystalline, they eventually formed a culture based on crystals. Now for the tree of harmony. When ponies migrated to Equestria from the homeland, the new world was loaded with monsters. It wasn't safe. In order to protect the land, the mages that went with them used a similar process to that of the crystal heart's creation to make a crystal tree that would act as a beacon, drawing most monstrous plants and animals to it and gathering them in one place, protecting the rest of the land. So why were the sisters there? For this, I go back to why they exist- the only two immortal Allicorns in existence, and clearly not a part of their own species. It is my head cannon that the sun and moon were originally normal, and the ponies tried to control them to gain a longer growing season in the north but in doing so destroyed them, and had to replace them with magical replicas which are what we now see in the sky. It is these that must be controlled through magic. Creating and maintaining them created a massive shift in the world's magical energies, causing plants and animals to become distorted into the monsters that the tree of harmony was meant to gather. It also distorted two sisters, born as both unicorn and pegasus only because of the shift created by the new sun and moon, with a mystical link to each. Their parents hid them away for a long time, and when the tree was created the sisters were drawn to it the same as the monsters were. They didn't know of it's existence or why they were compelled to build themselves a castle on top of it. Nobody knew about them until they came forward to combat the first major magical threat to Equestria, possibly Tirek, and that is when StarSwirl- last surviving member of the council of mages from the homeland, recognized their power and took them in as his apprentices.

Maybe it like your star wars theory. There used to be balance and both worlds were one. Something happened and ripped them apart. The everfree forest is the remaining link between both worlds. Could also explain why zecora moved there. I like my theory better. MLP:FiM takes place in the same world as the G1 MLP show, but it's thousands, possibly millions, of years in the future. Since most people haven't seen the G1 show, I'll explain a little bit. (I actually haven't seen all the episodes of the G1 show, though, so it's possible that part of my theory may contradict something in the show.) In the G1 show, nature worked like it does in the real world, but there was still magic. The Heart of Ponyland was the source of all the magic in Ponyland. Six princess ponies maintained the magical balance in Ponyland with magic wands that drew their magic from the Heart of Ponyland. Here's my theory about what happened. A draconequus came to Ponyland. The Rainbow of Light (which was used to defeat bad guys), the flutter ponies (who stopped the smooze), and the princess ponies' magic wands (which were used to stop someone called Lavan) all put together weren't strong enough to stop the draconequus. The only thing with enough magic to defeat the draconequus was the Heart of Ponyland. So the princesses took some of the magic from the Heart of Ponyland and transferred it to themselves, becoming the first alicorns. They knew that it might cause some problems, but they thought they would be minor, and there was no other way to stop the draconequus. They left the magic wands and the Rainbow of Light on the Heart of Ponyland because they didn't need them anymore. The six alicorns were just barely able to defeat the draconequus. All of Ponyland celebrated, until they noticed something was terribly wrong. The sun wasn't moving. They went to the Moochick's mushroom house (which had been mostly destroyed) to find a book that might explain what was going on. Turns out the Heart of Ponyland didn't just control the magic in Ponyland. It controlled all the magic in the entire world (and nature was magic). Without that magic, the sun and moon wouldn't move. The plants wouldn't grow. The animals couldn't take care of themselves. The weather and seasons wouldn't change. And there was no way to return the magic. The ponies had to figure out how to make the world work again and were so focused on that that they lost all their technology and eventually forgot what had happened. But what they didn't know was that the Heart of Ponyland still had enough magic left to keep the area around it working properly. This area eventually became the Everfree Forest. When the magic wands were placed on the Heart of Ponyland, the Heart of Ponyland turned into the Tree of Harmony with the wands eventually becoming the Elements of Harmony. When those seeds Discord planted stole the magic from the Tree of Harmony, it was his magic and the tree's magic combined that caused them to grow.

WHAT I THINK HAPPENED

- The two sisters find the tree of harmony and build their castle near it to protect it
- The tree creates the portal to our world in the form of a mirror, which they put in their castle.
- Discord takes over and gets the mirror's power gets out of control and our laws of physics get pushed through the portal into their world thus creating a small Everfree forest around the castle.
- Discord's power over throws the tree's and the Everfree Forest grows over the castle of the two sisters, but it doesn't stop there, it KEEPS ON GROWING
-The sisters 'upgrades' the tree to stop the Everfree Forest growing and then overthrows  Discord
-PEACE IS RESTORED

I think that, Clesta and Luna built there cassle there and then they planted a tree and then it spreaded, so they planted a magical tree so the trees would not spread to pony vill and the rest of the pony world, and the magical tree made magical creators, and that's how the ever free forest was made, Bye Clesta and Luna, The Magic Mirror Clesta made, and some of its laws of fizics leeked through it the first time Clesta and Luna went through it, and thats how the clouds move bye them self and the all the rest of that stuff do things bye them self, That's what I think!

My theory is that the Everfree forest WAS a smaller more normal forest save for the tree of harmony.  The sisters built their castle in the forest in case they needed to Return the Elements in an emergency. After the sisters abandoned the castle there was nothing to stop Discord's plunder seeds from spreading. This would explain a lot about the forest.  Regular magic can't control it, just like regular magic is powerless against Discord's power (Twilight's Failsafe spell was completely ineffective).  The monsters we've seen in the forest are mainly serpentine (Steven Magnet) or hybrids (the manticore and cockatrice) matching the anatomy of Discord himself.
