Nope, I totally agree with you. Daddy Disocrd is one of my favorite songs, and that's because everything seems to just fit in so perfectly with what we'd expect
And you're right: Lanovran's vocals seemed to get progressively quieter. I used envelopes to adjust the volume and the trim on the fly in the final mix rather than set each layer on one setting for the entire song. It takes a bit more work but pays off in the end. It's why I always mix the music and vocals separately before mixing them together in a separate file altogether.
Yay he approves! Yeah man I owe you a lot, it's a shame you don''t have as many subs as I.
I wanted to keep this all classical like, I was inspired by the orchestration in "This is Halloween". (woodwinds are so 90s)Especially that "oom-pah" 2/4 rhythm. You had bass, guitar, and a drum kit as per the score of a Rock Opera right?
The beginning was inspired by "Bara ni irodorareta" of Malice Mizer.
Can you submit it? :3 I don't wanna seem like an ass ^^;
Oh, and Lanny hasn't gotten back to me :(
Superb! All of it. The baroque style, the singing voices of both Discord and Screw Ball and the dichotomy between the two. This is a official show calibur stuff. In fact, this song makes me think of how interesting it would be to have Screw Ball come back in season 3 as a disciple of Discord, trying to get him resurrected and the like.
Honestly, the voice fits well with the mood of the song. Although the entire song almost sounds something out of Phantom of the Opera. I guess thats just the organs though.
Personally, I love Screwball's tone, I just think it sounds like her mic was submerged. And I think that Discord's voice is an octave or two too high. Very good on your and the sources parts though.
The Darkness synth was what making those random noises at the beginning of the song. And because of the way the percussion is mapped out in Orchestral the snare drum rolls and hits were assigned to the high hat part, making it awkward to notate without glitching. As for mixing, I mixed each section of the orchestra, synths, organ, and rock parts individually. It took longer but made it easier to get each part under control.
My instrumentals are NEVER popular so I try to avoid them.
And am I like, the only one who likes Screwball's singing? I think it works beautifully! Sometimes it's about finding the right sounding voice for the job and Simina's was perfect. If anyone else sang it would not be the same experience and therefore flawed. What do you think her voice should sound like? And I swear, if I hear an anime reference I am gonna want to shove a brohoof up places they're not supposed to go lol.
I actually prefer your instrumental for Eurochaos, it feels more like a "final boss" mix than the original. Also, this (orignal and this mix) is one of the few vocal tracks where Discord's voice is close enough to De Lancie's that it doesn't pull me out of the song...
Dude this is epic. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this song. Great job.
I made my own version of the song in Logic Pro using synthesizers. Let me know what you think of it? :)
Is there ANY way in which we could get this without the singing? I love Screwball's singing, but it'd be pretty awesome as well to have an instrumental version. Aaand I also know it's a lot to ask for, but uh! I don't mind if you don't. (Because who would.) Keep making awesome stuff n_n
I feel the organ bits where very aggressive, kinda like Baroque era heavy metal. The orchestration for Screwball's solo verse was designed to have an "innocent" child-like quality. When Discord came in I gave him the accented oom-pah rhythm and piano to take away that child feel and implement some "shit is gonna go down" ness ^^.
No, the wobble bass was a separate track from the fretless. Many of the instruments I had to cut out to make room in the midi, like the classical percussion, cellos (forgive me Octavia! DX ), and the "Darkness" synth. I actually wound up turning down volume of the trombones because they were making a strange "BWAP!" sound when combined in the final mix. They weren't doing that when played alone, oddly.
USB soundcards would give you better playback and recording options, especially when dealing with waves and MP3s and have the advantage of being compact.
Am I correct in assuming that was the track with "fretless bass" midi sound? And that's crafty, it totally gives the song a different feel to it. Also, did your brass come from the Edirol Orchestra vst? Are they any good? I can't hear them super clear over the rest of the music.
Serious work. No one has ever done this before and will never do it again. This is probably the best version of the song. At least that's what I'll be listening to from now on instead of original. I hope everything is okey with you. And... don't care what you can think about me.
You know what would be awesome if Hasbro decided to make a "Daddy Discord" movie or two parts episode? That the original song plays during the scene where Screwball frees Discord and at the end of the story, when Discord is defeated and is turning back into stone, having a version like this of the song playing with mildly changed lyrics, basically being Screwball crying, begging her daddy not to go and Discord, comforting her, saying it'll be alright because he'll always be there, at her side.
I actually did not like this the first time i heard it...
but a day or two later... i was humming it.
i came back.. again.. and again... and again.. now i CANT STOP LISTENING TO IT ><
God dam you psychogth!
you make amazing songs "yes technically this one is not his" but still, its great.
Just passing by and saw... this. I LOVE both singers and I don't get why people dislike them. You're not alone. I thought Simina's voice was perfectly adorable for Screwball and Lanovran was deliciously Discord. Anyway... JUST SHOWIN THE LOVE WHILE I BROWSE PONIES ON YOUTUBE
It was a name I came up with in 9th grade when I thought Slipknot and wearing gas masks was cool. You know, back when Nu-Metal was as cool as Dubstep is now and all the cool kids were listening to it.
Actually, the guitar I used was a combination of the SGM2 soundfont guitar and the overdriven guitar on my piano. (and no, these questions aren't annoying me at all, though we might want to take this conversation to the PM's for the sake of aother commentators).
Well, Discord's statue is being stored in a large vault, away from the royal gardens to prevent another Cutie Mark Crusader incident (the PMV wasn't made with my input). And Simina's mic wasn't made for singing (she's a Let's Player and uses a gaming headset) so she really couldn't go louder without causing clipping. She's getting a better one, though!
SiminaCindy's mic was actually a gaming headset since she mostly did Let's Plays. If I had had the means I would have removed that airiness in her recordings.
Most people probably have the voice EileMonty gave Screwball in her cover of the song. Which, as adorable as it is, does kinda show why Simina's voice of choice works best. Don't get me though, I love the cover but I don't think I'll be replacing SiminaCindy anytime soon.
No Melodyne, just brute force tuning, a.k.a. individually selecting the wave forms of individual words and manually adjusting the pitch (at times even crossfading between the two). That low A one, though, was actually the result of me crossfading between two separate takes, rather than a pitch fix.
Hmm, als ich den Titel gelesen habe, habe ich irgentwie erwartet, den ganzen Song auf Deutsch zu hören. But oh well, this works too. I personally like the organ parts.
You're not the only one who likes Screwball's singing. It fits beautifully into the original song, because it gives her that otherworldly feel, all the while reminding us that she's a child. It's a bit hard to explain, but it just sounds cute and appropriate.
You don't know what crossfading is? o.O As in fading out of one sample while fading into another? Quite useful for making loops sound more natural. I guess that's one advantage with having a program that can be used as an audio mixer, primitive notation software, and a sequencer.
Oh yeah ok so it's pretty much the same thing I do then. I really want to get some kind of interface w/ a 1/4 inch plug so I can record my guitar. You're using a VST for yours right? (I hope I'm not bugging you w/ these seemingly incessant queries ^^;)
Lol no they're not, they're now what preteens listen to when they want to seem tough. Plus I don't consider one or two power chords throughout the whole song/ fast yelling good music.
And the gasmask thing was just me being weird lol. I was a total baby bat in High School heheheh.
hehe that's what I do. Did you post the vocals mixed already? I mean I think you did because there is a very low A on Simina's part that seems Melodyne-d. I just threw the acapellas in here and compressed/ EQ'd them for a bigger/brighter sound. Although, I probably should have put the weight of the orchestration for Lanny's part in the higher register to make room for his Baritone voice. Orchestration mistake there ^^;
*gasp*
You should really look into Melodyne, you can adjust the pitch and the overtones as well to make is sound more natural. I have no idea what crossfading is though /= *n00b alert*
Aww man that sucks, I would've liked to see the notation for them. But you got away with more than 16 channels in the midi you have available though. I had to delete some to get it to work in my Guitar Pro I use for staff view. The deleted track just follow others on the midi though so no loss I guess.
Oh yeah, and did you EQ the individual tracks all together? I'm surprised such a thick orchestration didn't muddle at all.
Ah yes, that. I don't know how to use that in FL studio. And yeah SONAR probably beats the ever-loving shiznit out of FL Studio lol. I wish I had a sweet setup like you grr, but all I have is a simple laptop. /=
Nnope, It's space issues I'm stuck with. I share a room w/ 2 people and they both have full towers but they're not even composers. It's not fair I tell you, the one w/ the talent is the technological runt of the litter (as it were).
What would I do w/ the add-on Soundcard device?
I've been dealing with trolls, haters, and idiots all day, all outside the fandom. I'm not saying there aren't trolls here too, but there's certainly a lot less :D
Nope, I totally agree with you. Daddy Disocrd is one of my favorite songs, and that's because everything seems to just fit in so perfectly with what we'd expect

0 likesCan you please do the exact same thing you did with this one to EileMonty's version? I'd love to hear that.

0 likesNo, I love her voice too. You are not alone.
0 likesI listened to this song while doing homework, and I got 100% on the paper. :D Awesome
