Ernie and the Emperors ... Ernie and the Emperors were a rock band from Santa Barbara, California. They were an example of rock and pop from the 1960s, influenced by the British invasion with songs that employed rich harmonies, instrumental hooks and optimistic lyrics. Their biggest hit was their single “Meet Me At The Corner,” a hit for them as Ernie and the Emperors. In later years, they also released material as Giant Crab, as Big Brother Ernie Joseph, Faith and as Brian Faith Band.History
Ernie and the Emperors began their careers as an introductory play for the Isley brothers at the Earl Warren Fairgrounds in Santa Barbara. Shortly thereafter, after winning numerous Battle of the Bands competitions, they were formed as the official house band for the venue. After signing a contract with Reprise Records in 1965, they enjoyed the hit “Meet Me At The Corner” at the California gold coast bar of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. The emperors carried out a performance schedule that took them all over the country. When bassist Randy Busby left, Denny and Kenny Fricia jumped in and the band changed their name to Giant Crab. As each of the members was recruited into the military, the lineup changed, but upon their return they were reformed again, releasing a series of singles and two LPs. In 1968, Greg Munford, lead vocalist in the hit Strawberry Alarm Clock, Incense and Peppermints, also joined Giant Crab as a studio artist and performed with the band on Wolfman Jack’s California College Tour. Later, Greg Munford also performed on the Southeast Tour with the band.
In 1969, Ernie Joseph changed his musical direction with the album Driving Rock Confusion, teaming up with the brothers "Ruben the Jet" (Brian Faith), Cory (Cory Colt) and drummer Steve Dunwoodie (Stevie D), to tour the southeastern states as Big Brother Ernie Joseph, a tour that included the Love Valley Music Festival near Greensboro, NC). While on tour, they performed with the Allman Brothers Band, Bruce Springsteen & Steel Mill, members of the Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Greg Munford and Ed King of Strawberry Alarm Clock.

A Californian band (commune/family) that recorded their first album in Hollywood. It was produced by Bill Holmes, the album is patched up. His best songs are hard-rocking ESP and dreamy Wake Me Up In The Morning. The album also includes an interesting long version of Saint James Infirmary. Before Big Brother, Ernie Joseph was known as Ernie Orosco and formed several Santa Barbara outfits, including Ernie and the Emperor's, Ernie's funny and giant crabs.
Ernie Joseph - Confusion:
Influenced by the guitar sounds of Hendrix, Cream and Jeff Beck, The Bill Holmes produced Confusion is an incendiary classic of British blues style guitar rock. The band, which should not be confused with the similarly named and of course more popular Big Brother and Holding, made a name for themselves as a great live performance, often encouraging audience participation. Their energy on stage comes down well on the record, resulting in a loose charismatic album that only slows down long enough to sing a serenade on "Wake Me In The Morning." The rest is infused with Ernie Joseph's simmering guitar virtuosity and the sound of an organ that shows no sign of prog's impending exaggeration. Rock record from start to finish.
