The first album with this formation is called Aqua, released in June 1992. In addition to Downes and Payne, the album features Howe, Palmer and guitarist Al Pitrelli (from Danger Danger, Megadeth and Alice Cooper). Howe returned during the sessions after leaving Yes, but Palmer will also be leaving soon, taking part in an ELP reunion, and playing only three songs. Drummers Simon Phillips and Nigel Glockler then wrapped up the sessions. Downes' environmental single Who's Going to Stop the Rain? (originally written for Max Bacon and an admixed project Rain, which later appeared on his album From The Banks Of The River Irwell) attracted radio attention.
The Aqua Club tour features Howe (whose presence is strongly encouraged), who takes to the stage after the fifth song. The tour was successful enough to justify the band continuing. Downes, Howe, Payne, guitarist Vinny Burns and drummer Trevor Thornton toured from 1992 to 1993. Before touring European festivals in late 1993, Howe and Burns left and were replaced by guitarist Keith More.
The band released Aria in May 1994, in which guitarist Al Pitrelli, who left Asia during the album's short tour, reappeared. The latter did not get a good commercial result, and the next tour was limited to four concerts. Former Simply Red guitarist Aziz Ibrahim took over the tour.
