Character Analysis: Lightning Dust

Lighting Dust chose to be reckless so she could be better than everypony, look at her cutie mark, her cutie mark have a lighting bolt with three stars, it means two things, the lighting bolt means that she flies fast like Rainbow Dash and the stars means that she is a over achiever.

I personally want to see her again. She had her lively hood taken away, I mean, where is she know? Is she drinking her sorrows away in a small bar? Is she like Trixie, looking for away to get revenge? The show could do a whole Gilda or trixie like episode or maybe she we will just be an antagonist for an episode. I think it could be interesting. Also, WHY did you make that analogy? HMS sucks!?

Twilight accidentally duplicated Rainbow and sent that copy ACCIDENTALLY to a different world (specifically, in Johnny test's sister's lab), creating an explosion erasing that part of their lives from their memory. Johnny Test's sisters accidentally performed an experiment on that copy of rainbow instead of Johnny Test. It created an explosion that erased that part of their lives from their memory. This copy, now called Lightning Dust remembers nothing about that time in her life and lost her loyalty, which was replaced with overachieving. She still remembers her goal and because of her overachievingness, she gets in without friends (yeah....). Then she meets Rainbow Dash. Still remembers nothing. After she loses her rank, she walks away sadly and she also remembers that she's a clone. I could easily picture dash replacing dust. She is now stuck in depression. That's why she's gone forever, just like people were (almost) gone forever in the holocaust. Which is weird because hasbro is (kinda) anti-german (reference to one of my comments on a different video of his). But that's just a theory, a PONY theory!!!!! MatPat is now a brony :D

I don't think LD just brought out RD's qualities, seeing as she's been showing her loyalty even when LD wasn't there. Also: RD isn't just loyalty; she also has morals, unlike LD or the Wonderbolts.

i really, like light dust actually i like her way of thinking sometimes you have to take risk to get noticed but, ranibow dash shows that there is a limit to the risks. its like forgetting your morals to advance but in the end lighting dust got punished for being to brash

i had to make a similar descision. when starting middle school last year, i had to choose between a special charter school and the normal svchool. all my friends were going to the regular school but i would be miserable there. the other school was really good for me but id have to make new friends. i chose the charter school in the end. i love it there <3 but i till keep in touch with my friends.

when I first saw the episode I was like wow RD found someone who wants to be just like her from the beginning but like what spitfire said is that LD was more achieving then RD it gets you thinking LD have any friends that she was loyal to or was she just alone that's why she was more achieving in the end RD could have lived her dream as a wonderbolt who don't seem to care about anypony but as you see more often spitfire tells RD that she was right wonderbolts shouldn't act the way they do RD has been loyal to her friends but you know im sure if LD had friends im sure her loyalty is sure to come out

I dont think Lighting Dust is actully disloyal..She doesnt seem to have friends so maybe if she did had friends she wouldnt be so careless..I actully really like Lighting Dust,I dont think she really did anything that bad..I think becominh wonderbolt was her ONLY goal ever..so she didnt really know how to act better.

I honestly feel really bad for this character. Yeah, she was behaving badly, but she was always rewarded for it. Then at the end, she was suddenly punished for it. She didn't change, yet what she was encouraged to do is wrong now. Poor thing :(

Cool vid! This reminded me there are some theories that Lightning Dust may actually be a sociopath. And you know what? I'd believe that!

Sociopaths are know to seek thrill and strong emotions on a regular basis, Lightning Dust likes to push herself a lot more harder than others and hates it when stuff goes slow, and wants action to happen as soon as possible.

Sociopaths are also known for being strangely charismatic, in a sort of sense that they know exactly how to win people. That's what Lightning Dust was able to do when socializing with Rainbow Dash.

And perhaps most importantly, sociopaths lack empathy and regard for others' wellbeing apart from theirs. Lightning Dust didn't care less about wether or not she knocked over the other students in the obstacle course, or when RD hurt her wing, or when she and RD almost sent the rest of the Mane 6 plummeting to their death.

That said though, it's very unlikely the show's writers would openly say that they based Lighning Dust around sociopathic characteristics. Since, you know, MLP is a family-friendly kids show and sociopaths are often linked to deranged blood-thirsty serial killers. But the thruth is, sociopathy comes in a spectrum, and for all we know Lightning Dust could have been written as a kid-friendly version of a high-functioning sociopath (a person who is not as impulsive as other sociopaths, but still lacks empathy for all but themselves).

I have a question for you. I've noticed how the mane 6 have their own style of mane. Other ponies, like backround ponies, dont. You may say "because we dont focus on them" but really. Take Daisy and Carrot Top. They have the same mane. There is also Derpy, and I always see like a purple and yellow Derpy, but those are normal ponies. No crazy eyes. So, could you look into this? Maybe do some video concept? I suck at research, so I'm pretty sure I can trust you ;)

One thing about Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust is they both have lighting bolts (or shaped like) for cutie marks.

Personally this episode reminds me of fallout a lot, but instead you have to choose one side of another, like in fallout 3 you could sabotage project purity or save it, fallout new Vegas has many fractions that reflects on the ending.

I love you're videos but I have to say that each one ends quickly, so the idea seems rushed and quite unfinished with you just putting a point out there but never trying to show any proof. The endings always seem to have you confused about the subject you're on and asking for our opinions on the matter. This is just my opinion so please don't hate me. Luv your channel though!

I'm sorry, but Lightning Dust is literally my favorite character EVER

This is just like MoonDancer and Twilight Sparkle.

Makes me think of Suri Polomare who was made to be a bad Rarity. Notice how only these two have foils? It's because they're the only characters who poorly relate to their elements. I see why they needed to make Lightning Dust, but it doesn't actually fix the fault with Rainbow Dash. It could have been the springboard she needed to become a better character though. Sad that never panned out.
I find it odd the writers were still trying to keep the elements as a thing, whilst clearly hating that they exist.

I feel like Lightning Dust was punished too hard, since being reckless was a quality of her personality. Also, if Rainbow Dash was so loyal, why did she nearly put Ponyville in danger when almost destroyed the weather factory in episode, "Tanks For The Memories." Yet Lightning Dust is brutally punished for creating a tornado Rainbow Dash AGREED to do.

Here's my theory.
Lightning Dust comes from a family where the pegasi have a similar disability to Scootaloo. LD grew up thinking she would never be able to fly because she believed she had this genetic disability too. Then, she had some sort of incident where she discovered that she could fly, the only one in her family who could, so she was pushed to be the greatest, her parents forced her into training, desperately trying to make their only flyer be the best she can. LD took this in and was told to do anything she could to be the best. ANYTHING.
So she did, she got into the academy, and you know the story from there.
She was forced to be a flier by her family, who none of which could fly themselves to they wanted her to be the best. Which is why she was willing to be reckless to the point of almost killing the mane 6.
But in fairness, the mane 6 were on restricted airspace, so it was a hazard that they should have realised.

also when they fly at high speed there tail colour's show behind them rainbow dash leaves a rainbow line behind her and lightning dust leaves yellow with a lighting bollt behind her

I actually agree with this theory, but one thing, rainbow dash is the element of loyalty, but, she has to be more powerful than that! Honestly, I don’t think Lightning Dust did all that bad, sure, she is a bit reckless, but that only stems from the fact that she always wants to try her hardest because she wants to be a WonderBolt. Plus, it’s not really a bad thing to wanting to impress your mentors, Lightning Dust just wanted to show Spitfire she had what it takes. Honestly, the other Mane 6 should not have been there, it was a WonderBolts training facility, it was dangerous, and it wasn’t Lightning Dust’s fault that they went there, she really did nothing wrong, sure she was reckless. But if you think about, none of the other Pegasus were in danger, it was only the Mane 6 because they wanted to see Rainbow Dash disregarding the fact that she was training and that they just should not have been there.
