I love Wolfwalkers! both because of the story and because the art was made traditionally all completely drawn by hand, they hardly ever make movies like that anymore. it's a masterpiece in fact Wolfwalkers was one of the few good things to come out of 2020 in my opinion.
Just for the setting: it is set shortly after the English civil war in which the parliament overthrew the king and the leader of the parliamentarian army was Oliver Cromwell, who became Lord Protector (the Lord Protector in this movie is based on him), essentially a dictator. He also campaigned in Ireland, which at the time was still in the process of being colonized by the English. Oliver Cromwell's warfare in Ireland was brutal, even for his time, and lead to the destruction of much of the countryside and deportation. The Irish fought back in guerilla warfare and rebellions. In addition to the cultural divide, there was also a clash of religion, between strict puritan Protestants on the English side and Catholics on the Irish side. Cromwell was also famous for deforestation and putting bounty on wolves (which ultimately lead to their extinction in Ireland). So this movie uses the various elements of these historic events and settings and blends it with elements of Irish mythology.
The other two movies in the Irish folklore trilogy are The Secret of Kells + Song Of The Sea. Both of them are good but Wolfwalkers is in my opinion the best one of the three + definitely my favorite. Song of the Sea is my 2nd favorite (and I would recommend it) and The Secret of Kells is my least liked (largely because of how certain characters are drawn). Wolfwalkers was nominated for an Oscar but of course a Disney/Pixar movie won (Soul) that year. Also one of the only movies (or other piece of media) where Sean Bean's character doesn't die!
OMG, I really like the concept of your channel as well as all your reaction on so many different movies/series! If you want in the future, I can suggest you an animated feature called "Leap!" (2016). I wish you to continue your video reactions! It's amazing!
I agree with an earlier comment that this should’ve won best animated picture in 2020. Unfortunately it lost out to Pixar’s soul so that’s how the cookie crumbles I guess. This is actually my favourite animated film at present. And yes Sean Bean did in fact play the father of Robyn, however lately he’s been transitioning out of roles that have him play a tragic character i.e. one that dies. But then again, that’s how we all remember Sean Bean, a large chunk of his characters, die. Lol. This is my first movie that I’ve watched with you outside of the earlier content that you did at the start of your channel. Keep up the good work.
You should watch some Scooby Doo movies, some that I can think of that aren't too terrible are- Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire Scooby-Doo! The Sword and the Scoob
