DANCER su nastali od ostataka otoka Wight folk rockera SHIDE & ACORN i budućeg slavnog filmskog redatelja pokojnog Anthonyja Minghelle. Minghella se prethodno pojavio kao klavijaturist u maloj jazz grupi poznatoj kao EARTHLIGHT.
Glazbenike je otkrio Wilf Pine, bivši menadžer BLACK SABBATH-a i budući ugledni član gotti mafijaškog sindikata u Sjedinjenim Državama.
Pine je 1972. godine osigurao vrijeme grupnog studija u Olimpiji u predgrađu Barnes u Londonu, gdje su snimili sedam pjesama tijekom mjesečnog razdoblja pod vodstvom gitarista GROUNDHOGS-a Tonyja McPheeja. DANCER originated from the remnants of the Isle of Wight folk rocker SHIDE & ACORN and the future famous film director the late Anthony Minghelle. Minghella previously appeared as a keyboardist in a small jazz group known as EARTHLIGHT.
The musicians were discovered by Wilf Pine, a former manager of BLACK SABBATH and a future prominent member of the gotti mafia union in the United States.
In 1972, Pine secured group study time at Olympia in the suburbs of Barnes, London, where they recorded seven songs during the monthly period under the direction of GROUNDHOGS guitarist Tony McPhee. McPhee, despite having a hand in cast, offered a solo guitar to close the title track. THE DANCER soon disintegrated, and their recordings remained forgotten until copies appeared almost thirty years later, and they were published by Kissing Spell.
Minghella would pursue a long and successful career as a film producer, while Athey and Cuffe would form the funk band BIG SWIFTY.
THE DANCER DESERVES a place in ProgArchives.com for a brief but enjoyable contribution to progressive music in a transitional and largely forgotten period in the careers of individual members.
