I was obsessed with this song when I was little but because I had a lisp it sounded really weird. plus instead of saying punkrocker I would say powerpuff girl because I thought that's what it said (I also used to have a tiny obsession with them so yeah) but with the rest of the lyrics I sang accurately it was just that bit I would get wrong.
This is so beautiful... actually cried. This reminded me of when I was younger and I took ukulele classes. There was an older girl in the class that would always suggest we play this song... and we always did. I haven't heard the song since. What a beautiful way to hear it again.
I remember in 7th grade I auditioned for the school's talent show and sang this song in front of the entire school. I love Dodie, but being honest I don't understand the meaning of this song? "Born into a world that doesn't care" well, the whole idea of punk was that it was a mindset and attitude towards, rights and freedom to express yourself and have no rules to music and just doing whatever the fuck you wanted. And that has seriously influenced so much pop culture today, which means there's no one to really rebel against. I think what the lyrics mean is that she doesn't want to be a punk rocker, she wants something to fight against. But there are no rules to music. We have the whole history of music at our hands, so there's that frustration to not be able to think of anything new, but blaming it on the fact that "world doesn't care". Stop saying you were born in the wrong generation, make this generation what YOU want it to be.

"Born into a world that doesn't care" well, the whole idea of punk was that it was a mindset and attitude towards, rights and freedom to express yourself and have no rules to music and just doing whatever the fuck you wanted. And that has seriously influenced so much pop culture today, which means there's no one to really rebel against. I think what the lyrics mean is that she doesn't want to be a punk rocker, she wants something to fight against. But there are no rules to music.
