Spike's Dream in Winter Wrap Up

Spike is amazing
he puts up with Twilight
he put up with being the only dragon in PonyVille

I believe Spike was there for comic relief when the show first started but the writers started to see more potential for him as the show went on and tried to build more backstory for him

I like Spike.
But he is there to serve.
Even so, he could be shown a bit more appreciation.

I think Spike is an excellent character, but its hard to love him as much ss he deserves when the writers keep pushing him into the background and used only for comic relief.

Spike deserves more fans! He does things for Twilight, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, etc. The least the ponies can do is show some appreciation for Spike! WHO'S WITH ME?!

I like the idea, when he woke up, he did say "Mommy..? ... You're not mommy.." which could indicate he was having a dream about his parents. Usually when people have a strong dream, the last thing they do is react from it before realising they actually woke up. I remember I had once woke up crying from the dream I had.

I agree with the fact that he deserves more recognition and love from twilight and friends and from us the fandom. he isn't as clever, strong, patient, or understanding as the others but that's just who he is and he's been trying and succeeding at getting better. also a trait that he's had most of if not all of the series is his loyalty without a doubt. that at least deserves some more love and attention.

Spike is NOT comic relief (or how ever you spell it) he is a special character! I do understand him. But anyways, he is helpful and loyal to everypony. Some ponies (hardly any) appreciate him. And he does have a sad history. I mean! Who wouldn't question themselves of:
Who are my parents?
How was a brought to this place? (In this case Equestria)
Why?
Will I ever see my parents?
Where did I come from? (Place)
And also. Hasbro should appreciate Spike more. And he should earn some more love. He is gaining more love. The ponies that give him the most love out of the main six is:
Twilight (she is like a older sister to him)
Rarity (He has a crush on her and there is some romance between them)
Applejack (They are REALLY good pals)

Also, there are no other dragons in Equestria! And when he tried to live with the other dragons, he didn't fit in because he had a pure heart.
I just hope for the best for him in Season 5. I hope he will be more appreciated than he is now!

I always think that he's been too overlooked by the shows creators that they didn't attempt to get him a more interesting role. One of the theories circulating is that the reason why Spike is wingless and considered the only "dragon" in Equestria is because he is NOT a dragon at all: but in actuality an unexpected byproduct of Twilights' very magic itself. The egg was never Real, and the entrance exam wasn't about hatching the egg: it was how one reacts to failure, essentially the entrance exam was a Kobyashi Maru. This theory would both fuel why Celestia chose to take Twilight in as an apprentice and why she felt for her to become another alicorn in the future. It also serves to reinforce the relationship between Twilight and Spike as that of mother and son that we've seen through most of the episodes.

Now that you mention it, there is something seriously wrong with you when you start developing feeling for a member of an entirely different species. Being raised by ponies really messed Spike up.

The abuse he gets in FIW, the parody series, is I think, meant to be, parodic. The show abuses him barely any less at times it feels, FIW just takes away any sense of subtlty. I like to think the fanbase gets that he deserves better. He is an incredibly nice, hard working, loyal, determined, sweetheart that thinks of others constantly. The slapstick and bad writing he suffers is really just... sad. The writers wanted a cliche comic character, but made him likable. That's rule #1, NEVER make the character you intend to injure be sympathetic. Common sense stuff and they failed that.
So okay, I get when the fandom has the chance to treat him better, treating him even worse can just seem like salt in the wound. And irritatingly I cant name anything that does Spike the justice he deserves... Still, the fans would be the ones to know he's damn great!

He’s a great character, and probably has a lot in common with some kids who whatch the show, and struggle with the same things he does like the others he’s also a great role model when it comes to identity problems.

In response to your opening question, it could be because he's a reptile in cold weather. And, because his mind is like that of a young human child, it would make him grumpy when he's prematurely awoken. I'm surprised he wasn't hibernating, to be honest.

Spike is great and adorable and definitely NOT just there for comic relief. I mean they literally made a whole episode based pretty much on the fact that Spike and Humdrum are very different characters.

spike does almost all of twilight's dirty work, heck, he even dug up ALL of the gems for rarity and pledged to work for applejack. i think the mane 6 treat him like an innocent pet who does your work and looks cute. they don't appreciate the fact that he is going through a lot of distress and pain because he doesn't know who he even is! i think the mane 6 should treat him MUCH better.

This is just a hypothesis that came to me out of the blue, and I have no evidence whatsoever to back this up, but…Perhaps in the first draft of the pilot episode, there was a seventh Element of Harmony, represented by a purple stallion. As the script went through more and more revisions, he gradually became less important to the relationship between the six mares, so eventually the writers just said “Screw it, he’ll just be Twilight’s pet dragon” and named him Spike. Maybe they felt kind of bad about reducing a handsome purple stallion to a mindless pet, so in the final draft they gave Spike back some anthropomorphic qualities (the ability to talk, for instance) and promoted him from pet to assistant. If this is the case, it is entirely possible that as the show progressed they explored his backstory a little more because they were still a little guilty about what this mysterious seventh pony had been reduced to.

I LOVE Spike, he is one of few thing that stay consistent throughout all generations of mlp. he was there as a pink with purple spikes baby dragon in G1, I think he was a purple and green adult dragon in G2&3 and now in G4 he is the same but as a baby dragon again.

Funny, this is the third video of yours that's led me to my 'spike is a slave' theory and once again, it supports it. Slaves generally don't get the same level of dignity and respect as the dominant race in their society. I think FiW is a bit of a commentary on this actually, they exaggerate the ponies abusing Spike for humor but it does somewhat call to attention that although they may speak of him as a friend, nopony actually treats him as an equal. Rarity even calls him a 'dear friend' just to exploit his obvious feelings for her by using him as free labor in her shop.

Tbh I think Spike is in the show due to comic relief yet it'd be cool to see some character development and for the creators to expand his background, maybe get a feel of his parents or how he came to be in Canterlot.

I honestly fell SUPER bad for spike, ever since Twilight became he has been getting a little less screen (From what I've seen) which has been growing less and less. I think he should get more screen time, in the episodes he's mostly about those are great episodes and teach some very important lessons! He really does deserve more screen time.

Spike was put into the show because he's been in (almost) every MLP creation since the 80's. Same color scheme even except for 1 time.
What he's used as is an errand boy/little brother/ almost pet like/Conor relief most of the time though.

1. Willing to put up with bossy Twilight when she asks him to spend all his time picking up books that fell for the umpteenth time on his own just so she doesn't have to spend quality time with him while she studies.

2. Understood so much about friendship before Twilight did, and continues to be ahead of her today (he really should have been to one to become a Magic Elemental Alicorn or whatever. Maybe an Elemental Dragon? Could those exist in Equestria?) Plus, I keep thinking that Discord is opposite Spike, the Dragon of Chaotic Disharmony vs. the Dragon of Organized/Responsible Harmony. (He always tries to be supportive, and clashes with Twilight's critical nature.)

3. Unlike Twilight being frazzled by her own nervousness, Spike is seemingly only seriously corrupted by the confused nature of the sporadically greedy Element of Generosity that he has a crush on.

Spike is one of the favorite characters I don't think he's too much of a comic relief I think Pinkie Pie's more of a comic relief when it comes to certain things but I will Spike does deserve a little more respect now and again

I believe that Spike is an important factor for the team considering his action in saving the crystal empire, helping Starlight be friend with Sunburst, and how he documented every lesson on friendship Twighlite or the others ever learned. Plus he is a peace keeper for the main six, the dragons, and the changelings. The king of the changelings and queen of the dragons admitted this to each other and the main six. Plus the main six also condone to his importance.

He's more then just comic relief, seeing as how he saved the crystal ponies from sombra in those episodes, if hasbro didn't have anything planned for spike, I doubt they would have used him as a solution to a big problem like that, it goes to show that there's more to his character then just a sidekick.

I think he's been used for comical relief but the character of Spike honestly it's much more than just comical relief. He's a character all his own. I hope they build more around Spike

Although I agree that Spike is definitely there for comic relief, he plays a huge part in how the story plays out. Example: Spike was the only "pony" who knew the powers of the Power Ponies. If not for Spike, the girls, not knowing how to defend themselves, would have died as well as letting a whole other universe crumble to the feet of, what? A mutated pony with an eternal bad hair day. he's a good character,the thing is he shines in a support/back up or reinforcements role,like he did in the crystal empire or when he's paired with Rarity or keeping Twilight from going lesson 0 part two.
the problem comes when the writers try to "fit him in" or promis us something else and it's a spike episode.
It;s fine if we KNOW but otherwise it seems like a bait and switch.
That being said Spike is an ok character with room to grow.

I love spike and i think he should be used more. It has really bugged me that twilight treats him as a pet or as something a little higher then a survent. And Twilight isn't the only one that does this, every one does it. He sleeps in a dog bed and his room in the castle is full of pet toys. I know Spike is going to stay with Twilight but he should call Twilight on it at lest.

In Friendship is Witchcraft, Spike apparently dreams of being a singer, or, in my opinion, having something he's good at. Dragons don't get cutie marks, which is what brings me to the conclusion that Spike feels unneeded, and, like you said, probably wants his parents. In certain episodes in the regular FiM series, Spike is still treated badly. In the Diamond Dog episode, he goes out to help Rarity, basically by performing manual labor. Also in that episode, it is revealed that he wants to consider himself a hero to his crush, but can't, and so, to me, he considers himself a failure. I love Spike; he's a really sweet character who just want to know his past and know what he needs to do to be important to someone.
There are certain stories where Twilight is actually considered almost a mother to Spike, but I don't see it that way. If she cares about him so much, why does he have to clean up her messes while she gets to learn about friendship?
Also, just watching a sleeping baby dragon float away on a block of ice is downright cruel.

I agree with all you said. But we know ponies fear dragons, so much they refuse to study them. But when they realize spike is a harmless baby dragon, even flutter shy who is terrified of dragons, just goes right up to him like he's an adorable puppy. The ponies just don't see him as an equal, maybe even lower than mules.

Yeah, I definitely believe he's underrated. He even got punted by Twilight once. I'm not saying I would actually do it, but sometimes the ponies when they're disrespectful to Spike makes me want to... well... something pain inducing, but not actually injuring.

Personally, I love Spike, he really should become more of a main character, but he's there for comic relief also. He does deserve more love from the fandom, but like you were saying about the Mane Six being rude for letting him fall into the ice water, might I point out that people all over are considered 'rude' to the friends they're closest to. Whether it be writing PENIS on their face or prank calling them or sticking their hand in warm water when they're asleep. Harmless fun. Sometimes the friend on the receiving end gets sick or injured by the seemingly harmless prank.

I think that Spike needs more love.....he has been through a lot and Twilight(which is like Spikes Mom....) NEEDS TO SHOW HIM MORE LOVE THAN HE GETS!!!! HECK! Personally, I think Spike is pretty great and could even be the elements of harmony on his own.


Kindness- There are only a couple times he hasnt been nice, and thats when his dragon nature gets the better of him. He's always there to take a letter, always suggesting thing, and he cares deeply for not only the Mane 6, but lots of the ponies in Ponyville too, and even in Canterlot, based off the Moondancer episode

Loyalty- Spike is nothing BUT loyal. He's always there for everyone if they need him. He may not be super important, but in Dragon Quest, he went off to find who he was, only to defend what he thought was right and return to his friends.

Generousity- He seems to feel the need to pay back ponies who've helped him, and even gave Rarity a Fire Ruby he'd been aging for who knows how long.

Honesty- When have you really ever seen Spike lie? Except when, once again, his dragon nature takes over or when he got jealous of Owlicious. He's always Honest with Twilight and tries to tell her when she's acting crazy or stupid, even though he knows she wont listen to him.

Laughter- This is the hardest for him. This is the only element i dont think fits him perfectly. He's easily grumpy and moody and sad, but even so he's always happy at some point in the episode. It never lasts long, he doesnt try to be a debby downer after all.

Friendship- In the episode about Spikes Birthday, he went against basically every element of harmony there was, however, before he started to get greedy, not only did the Cakes want to give him something for his birthday, but so did other ponies, even background ponies. They all knew him, and he knew all of them. We dont exactly see it in the episodes, but Spike really does know a LOT of ponies, and they all know him well enough to like him, even call him a friend. He may not be everyones BFF always, but he's constantly showing his friendly side.


this is just what I see and my opinion. I know everyone wants Spike written out(Probably because he is so much like the Mane 6 everyone loves), but I'd kinda like to see him portray his characteristics in a better way. Maybe he could even defeat a villain one day, who knows.

I don't think of Spike as a character built for the purpose of comic relief, regardless of what any other pony has to say. To me he is more of a balance for Twilight Sparkle, facing his own insecurities in the shadows. In the very beginning of the series, Spike was really the only character Twilight acknowledged with the exception of Princess Celestia. And while Twilight had been a character very much introverted and unsociable, she depended on Spike without a second's thought, even if she did seem less than appreciative for his efforts. And while we find out later in the series that Spike had literally been with her since his birth, I believe that it only furthers the idea of him being a sort of anchor for her. Even when she wants to be alone or has to do something "on her own", Spike is there for her. I think in a way, he actually opened the path for her to become a princess of friendship. At the very least, Twilight Sparkle would not have evolved into the character she did without his influence. I also believe the reverse can be said about Spike. Without Twilight Sparkle to be there for him and depend on him, he would not be the same character I personally love. I also think that while Twilight seems to be the one always taking, she has given to Spike in her own, less noticeable way. Overall, these two characters are intertwined in such a way that the show couldn't have survived without either of them. Or at least, it would be rather more difficult to accomplish. This is just my opinion though, so facts could very well prove otherwise.

Yes, he swam in lava in Dragon Quest, but lava is more dense than water (I think), so it would be easier to float in it. Plus, we had no idea how deep the laval pool was.

I think there's something more to his story. About the only two times he really got attention, is when he was in winter wrap up, and, when he was jealous of twilight a new friend, the owl. All pets should get attention in the show. I think Spike is a good character, he's not suppose to be "comic relief" but he does get treated as comic relief a lot. I like how he gets portrayed better in stuff like Ultra Fast Ponies and Mentally Advanced. Still kind of comic relief, but a lot better, than in Friendship is Witchcraft.

I do have a similar feeling towards Angel Bunny. I don't think he's suppose to be as mean as he's shown. Spoiled yes, but also helpful unlike how he was shown in Putting Your Hoof Down.

I think Spike is so freaking cute. But yeah, I think the writers could be more kind to him and give him better episodes. I don't think he should be just the ponie's comic foil. He's a dragon for crying out loud, just because he associates and aligns himself with ponies doesn't mean he has to always be pussy-whipped by them. There should be an episode similar to Dragon Quest where the main six use him for menial things and he realizes this and rebels. I'm so tired of seeing a male character especially a dragon look so weak to his female pony subordinates in this show. He was the one who saved the Crystal Empire from Sombra. And yet he wasn't invited to the Crystal Empire celebration or whatever. I'd like to see Sombra return and Spike grow with positive influence and love for his friends back into a badass GIANT dragon and battle Sombra. His friends who are toatally stripped of their power. idk this probably wouldn't go well with the Feminists in this show. :/

I hope next season of the series, Spike gets to go back to where the Dragons come from and find out how his egg ended up with Celista's school and becoming a test for Twilight. I expect one day Spike will have to leave Ponyvile and Twilight's castle because of a growth spurt that takes him from being one of the smallest charaters to one of the largest charaters. Then I would expect Spike to live on the edge of the town and be careful when coming in to get the odd bits and bobs, thou he might make a friend who can get things for him and Spike does something in return.

I think of Spike as the antithesis of Severus Snape. Whereas Snape is a very bad person but a very intriguing and deep character, Spike is a very kind, dedicated and loving character with little to no signs of development. He has an interesting backstory, but...nothing comes of it. It's like if Snape loved Lily but nothing ever came of it.

tbh, I consider Spike part of the Mane 6 sometimes because he's worth it. He's like, the number 1 assistant, and sometimes I wish people appreciated what he's done. I can't even tell you how many times Twilight takes advantage of poor Spike, and even though I really like her, Rarity does too. I especially felt bad when he couldn't go to the gala and Twilight didn't bother taking him, her NUMBER 1 ASSITANT T_T It really bugs me and out of the entire mane 7, spike's either 2nd or 3rd

I think that they might go at Spike eventually finding his parents, who recognize him me scent. (having smelled the egg before it was taken)  I hope that this would happen sometime before season 7 at least.

Twilight should try harder. I don't recall Spike getting his own throne in Twilight's kingdom, and she didn't even invite him to her BIRTHDAY. He's practically her little brother and he is always ignored and even laughed at. Twilight has to imagine what he's going through, a struggle with identity, doubting himself as a true Dragon even though he was been fully grown more than once and nearly destroyed Ponyville before he was turned back into a baby. Rarity praises him and all, but takes no notice of his love for her. When Twilight got Rarity's mane, she should've seen Spike's reaction. These were her DIRECT words, and I'll repeat:


"Oh, Spike! You don't know what it is to be OBSESSED with somebody, but they love somepony else!"

Spike stands there, looking exasperated, and I don't blame him.
Spike has so much more potential, he is NOT there for Comic relief.

I think Spike is an important part of the show because 1. He is Twilight's assistant and messenger, so without him, Twilight would have to fly to Canterlot to deliver her message, and that was AFTER season 4. And because 2. He is always loyola to Twilight, no matter what. (Except in Spike At Your Service after Applejack save him from timberwolves and said he was in life debt to Applejack because of his dragon code.) Is Spike under-appreciated or even disrespected as a character? Uhm... yes. Also his treatment by the rest of the cast shines a very uncomfortable light on the ponies as whole. If MLP did actually examine this, even halfway seriously, it would raise some very unhappy and painful points about the ponies in general.

I could see this as an underlying plot in which Princess Twilight loses her powers because of how false and/or superficial her "friendship" with Spike has been poisoning the very root on her powers. The Love and respect that she should be showing is just not there. It would be a very sly knuckleball that Celestia pitches if she were to judge Twilight on her treatment of a child she was trusted with.

After all, Spike is NOT a pet, he is a child Twilight has been given charge of.

Spike is way underrated.

He's a dragon living in a pony world, and while there are other dragons in Equestria, he does't fit in with them because of many possible reasons. Here are the reasons I thought of immediately:
1. he was raised with ponies, not dragons
2. he's naturally kinder and more polite than others of his species
3. his past (not knowing where he came from, etc.)

The fact that Spike still tolerates living with ponies even though he does't fit in makes me think there's something special, maybe even magical, about him that the show hasn't really gone very deep into. Also, considering his egg was used to test Twilight to get into CELESTIA'S school, perhaps Sun Butt knows about Spike's past.

Spike should be used more I mean sheesh he should be one of the main charictors he is a great guy!

I agree, Spike is an underrated character, he gets hardly any respect from fans or by characters in the show nor by the show's writers. I mean, Twilight kind of treats him like crap, by making him do all this stuff for him and not thanking him at all and Rarity uses him as a stool and takes advantage of him and everypony laughed him when he was sleeping on that piece of ice in the water, I mean, what the hell?! And he gets hardly any respect from fans, they disregard him and hardly address him, except for a few people, and lastly the show creators hardly respect him, because they hardly give Spike any episodes to explore his character or even have him in the lead role, and even they do, they're usually written like sh*t (with expectation of Inspiration Manifestation). So yeah, poor Spike, I really wish more people and ponies would show him more respect, because he's one of, if not, my favorite character on MLP. 

I think they rely too much on Spike as a comic relief character. I think they have touched upon further potential with development, however. "Every evil overlord needs a five year-old adviser." or something like that, and I think that can be applied in a not-evil way now that Twi is a princess and Spike actually has a seat in her court. Since he is, in fact, a kid, I think it would be nice if they did an episode with some focus on his strengths as a kid rather than some weaknesses. Show him pointing out glaring flaws in plans that nobody else notices.  Have them appreciate him for that.

In a world with strong female characters spike is in the servant's role. In a lot of literature that's been reserved for the female characters and helpless males are looked down upon. The show is focused on showing the strengths of the girls so spike's suffered in the area of likeable qualities, namely being a door mat. He is definitely underappreciated. Though it is curious that the animal most prone to greed is attracted to the pony of generosity.

I have the feeling that Spike was written to be a comedic relief, but the guys in the fandom tends to hate on him because he ends up as the only main male character and he's treated like a joke- which is a bit insulting.

Of course it might also be that he's labeled a "baby dragon" and thus the grown-up (or at least teens) mane 6 don't think of him as a fully fledged friend, more like Twilight's little brother.

I am actually planning on joking about how underrated he is in a toy series im writing. (in it, Twilight calls him her pet dragon.)

the life of a teenager and spike are very similar. Hardships with identity, loving someone out of range, being loyal, trust worthy, helpful, and obedient one second, and the next they growl, complain, etc. Also, the ponies seem to be older. They all live away from their family, they have their own identities and jobs, etc. So spike is the pre-teenage kid they all take care of, and often don't invite to play simply because his age range isnt the same as theirs. like when youre with your friends and kick out your younger sibling.

Poor spike! He deserves attention because he does all of Twilight's dirty work. He'd be the one to bury a body if Twilight murder someone "On accident" And he deserves some rest. He is basically Twilight's slave, if you come to think of it. He is one of my personal favorites because he reminds me of myself. He lost his parents which must be really tough yet Twilight still makes it hard on him. And she said that he was only a BABY DRAGON! If I were Twilight I would give him 20 bits and tell him to go take a day off. If he weren't here the whole place would fall apart. I appreciate spike and so should you :)

Spike is a great character who, is not only unappreciated in the real world but even in the pony universe. Just flick through some episodes and see how bad Twilight treats him. The only one I feel like actually appreciates him is Rarity and even she sometimes takes him for granted.

Also in "Dragon Quest" at the end of the episode Spike tells the baby Phoenix "I'll teach you all there is on being a pony"

Let's take Steven universe for example, I don't watch the show but I know he is a boy living with three gurdians of the same race but are all the opposite gender of him, take spike and Steven you get a motherless boy except I know Steven's father is on the show. Even take a character that is just like him but the opposite gender, we take that person and we get princess Auna. A orphan that lived to see her parents she still holds the sadness in her heart that she lost people that she hold dear. Now imagine yourself in spikes shoes. Your be raised by a gurdian that is a higher rank than you in society, you have to be treated a slave by day and a pet at night. But you'll always know you have friends that care about you even in your darkest days. Lauren Faust made the spike we all know and love and she ( well technically his husband ) gave the mission he has now.

well, he is a dragon in a pony town in a pony country. of course things are as they are. imagine a dragon living in new york. not that the scientists would try to catch him, but that lives a, kind of, normal life there. he wouldnt geet a job, because people wouldnt know what to do with him, and he would hardly get a home because first, he is big, and second, he is a dragon, and they, in normal cases, need around 3 hours of sleep a day.
its the same in equestria. the ponies dont know what to do with him, so they just take the fact that he is there and thats it. if twilight would live in a country full of dragons, it would be the same. no dragon would know what to do with her and if it werent for her to be able to find gems with the spell rarity taught her, she would most likely, ok, this is getting too dark for mlp standarts.

Here is the thing: In the series MLP not only are some characters rude to spike, but the characters are rude to each other. I don't know if anyone noticed it but the thing is, every once in a while, there would be an episode, and in that episode there would probably be one of the Main 6 shouting/yelling kinda on another one of the Main 6 at one point. I have honestly noticed that everyone in MLP is a little rude. Idk if you think this, yes the person reading this, but tell me if you had noticed this or not.

And in The Crystal Empire, he saves it again! How can this be?

Spike is my 5th favorite

Spike is honestly one of the best written characters in the show in my humble opinion.
Spike was, overall, treated horribly in the first season. He was little more then a toy to be used during the Iron Pony competition (he was even used as an object to be thrown around at one point). The few times other ponies other then Twilight or Rarity showed empathy and care towards the guy was when other things they deemed more important were also at stake. When he was kidnapped by the Buffalo, Dash wasn't there to rescue Spike, she was there because they made a full on her. Likewise, AJ was clearly more worried about her tree then Spike. Not only that, but Twilight was just awful to Spike at times, controlling his social life and making it where he couldn't go to a birthday party because he had to help her with work.

Not only that, but he's almost never having fun with his friends. He usually has to put up with them or he's just straight up not invited. It's clear he wants to spend more time with them. In "The Best Night Ever" his only dream, his only dream for the night is to spend time with his friends. He only gets that wish when his first just say "screw it" and eat together. Even then, they mostly ignored him.

He puts up with all of this because he does love his friends that much. Going as far as to call them his family even. Whenever his friends are in danger, he always steps up to the task to protect them, or at least comfort them. He's shown to be very noble, sweet, compassionate, kind and even heroic, selfless and forgiving, even if he can be greedy and self-absorbed.

There's so much you can do with Spike as a character, the fanfic community is just filled with loads of different stories with Spike as the lead. Some stories have him pining for attention and affection while he keeps doing Twilights chores, rarely leaving the library/castle, some have Spike bond with a member of the Mane Six or other friends, some have him struggle with the fact he's the only dragon in pony society and the positives and negatives that come from that, some are about his parents, etc.

I had an idea for a story where word gets out that Ponyvile harbors a dragon and a Dragon Hunter attempts to slay him, only for the Mane Six to come to his aid and realize the hardships Spike can go through just for not being a pony

i agree Spike is underrated; i think they should add more to his character and the dragon species. It would be nice to have more episodes like Dragon Quest, where Spike hangs with others of the same species. I like how they have started to include him more in Season 4 and hopefully will include him a lot more in Season 5
