He never tried to get ad revenue, he never asked viewers to donate to him, he made TempleOS fully open source and didn't even attempt to sell it. His purpose for TempleOS was because he believed creating it gave him the ability to speak to God. Obviously that's most likely not true, but he believed it to be the truth and that in itself shows he had a motive far surpassing personal profit, even if it's entirely in his imagination. It's not even deniable that he was the definition of a computer genius. He was severely troubled from schizophrenia but that doesn't negate the fact that he was extremely intelligent.

This should open your eyes as to how the mind can be your worst enemy and we should all try more to understand people like Terry so that, where possible, we can help them through life. I doubt a cure will ever be possible but I'm sure more could have been done to accommodate his illness and it shouldn't fall to family to cover or even attempt to provide that care. I can't imagine the stress they were probably under.
