Point 2 is sometimes addressed as also being a downside. Everyone is trying to develop/write and maintain the same apps/functionalities, but on each of their own version, essentially spreading and thinning out efforts.
I’m not much of a hacker but I do program and I’ve actually really enjoyed switching to kali recently. It seems very stable, I love the interface, and it comes with a ton of convenient tools
If your linux bootloader is missing and you cant install it back, you can move your important data to an usb, booting first from a live session on linux on another bootable usb
Thats what I did for recovering my school data after formatting my hard disk, because the bios flash update of my motherboard deleted grub and put windows as default, and grub didnt appear in the bios, neither on the bbs properties (I doesnt remember if that was called like that, sorry)
@Sebastian1000login still not bricking, it boots perfectly fine, bricking is still when you make the motherboard unbootable and it doesn't even go into the bios or anything
ish literally my first experience with wine was to try and install an app and half the app didnt render, including the “proceed” button, so i just couldnt install it.
And id argue that if you have to work in order to get something like wine to run, it would be wiser for me to just hit the reset button on my pc real quick and then switch back over to windows where it all just works without wine.
And for the record, i did actually try, because i set myself a challenge to only use ubuntu for a week, and i gave up after trying to make wine run for a day. Ive done some tedious stuff to get my ubuntu install exactly the way i want it and im ok with that, but wine broke me.
@bonkmaykr I didn't say wine is perfect, and it's definitely not, but if something doesn't run, there's a reason for it, and there will most probably already be a way to fix it easily (and I explicitly meant the Linux version of wine the Mac version is literally useless because graphics on Mac are fucked anyways, and why are you talking about mac? we're talking about linux here)
One example is that one day, for school reasons, i had to edit a video and everyone on my team said that they will do that on the free trial of filmora, and as filmora doesnt exist in linux, i searched for an alternative, and in that day i knew about the existance of openshot, a little laggy but it was completely free and my final video didnt had a water mark (and my classmates though that i bough filmora)
@catz64 oof, i didn't considered that, and i didnt know about the existance of davinci resolve, anyways, thanks for the point, in my country, no one knows about linux and every time I talk about linux to my classmates they say "Sebastian, stop promoting fake viruses, only windows and mac exist" and i doesnt even promote linux, i just want that more people in my country could use linux
@Sebastian1000login Damn, Linux is the official US for public institutions here in Brazil. Most kids grew up using Linux at school. But there's still tons of prejudice because most still use Windows at home. I love Linux and have never had any problems. I use Kdenlive for editing.
@Pacheko Glad to hear that. In my country, the only school in the whole country that uses linux in the students computers is a private school where I study, innova schools, but every student here only says that the os on the laptops in the computer rooms is a weird bootleg of windows and they doesn't like it.
@Sebastian1000login when wine works, it works well, when it doesn't work it really doesn't work, and in my case using Virtual Machines just freezes the host distro, while on windows (and I've also tried hackintosh) don't do that
@ish Really the only programs I use regularly are 1. Edge (the chromium version) 2. Paint.net (I know there's an alternative but it's not as good) 3. Some drivers for stuff I have aren't compatible with linux, even if those arent programs I'll consider them as such 4. Rockstar Launcher (which apparently doesn't run on linux yet) 5. The Xbox app for gamepass, which I don't know if it has a linux version but I haven't seen anything
The first 2 programs afaik don't run at all or they don't install correctly, the rockstar launcher can be used via lutris but it crashes for me and the xbox app afaik has no linux counterpart. I also use Illustrator and Premiere Pro but I do know that they can be run on linux more or less fine.
@Muhammad bin Yusrat I see none of you have employers and domain specific apps that need to be used... Regardless of alternatives, it's not always an option...
@Muhammad bin Yusrat honestly a lot of distros give me a feeling of hollowness, and the fact that most distros rely on the terminal will certainly scare some people away from it. Plus alternatives to software are usually not as good as the og application
@NextinHKRY Yes it certainly will. IMHO Its actually good for Linux that only the computer-ninjas use Linux. This makes the people making viruses and Trojans less motivated to write a malicious software for Linux. Which would of course keep Linux safe on the long run.
It will never run those applications if you never switch. Software companies just listen to money and metrics. If no one is using Linux because they want Photoshop then Photoshop will never run on a system no one is running. Personally I can only think of a handful of things I genuinely can’t get running on Linux and only a smaller handful that I would truly care about.
@catz64 open source is just better that's just true and Adobe has been buying competitor programs so that they have the Monopol power Adobe is a shit company
@Ioan yes but actually yesn't while I use windows on my main machine I use Linux on my laptop I generally use non open source software. And really like adobe's products but as I have said they've been buying competitors. A Monopol power is never good!
Out of curiosity, doesn't disk encryption cause a large performance impact? I never used it because of this reason but I never really searched much into it.
Not really, but an SSD is recommended. (highest drop I get from non encrypted to encrypted is like a few mb/s less) and Windows uses no encryption at all so it's a huge benefit on Windows you could just Mount the Partition and boom you have access to everything
Surprised you didn’t cover the other popular FOSS distro shipped on millions of machines, MacOS. All the power of Unix with the ease of use of Apple. And it’s open sourced as part of the Darwin project
It's like a software as good as Android but without the Play Store.
No matter how good the road is, you need a car to run on it. In this case, the car is the applications which are available on windows but not on linux.
I’ve used Linux, Mac OS and windows and considering Linux is the only one I had to go through a massive hassle just to get Microsoft office 2010 working, which is now 10 years old. It also doesn’t work at all with any adobe applications which are programs I currently need for projects I have to finish.
So being honest I’ll only ever think about switching to Linux if programs I need to use can at least be forced to work using wine or something similar...
You can use libreoffice in linux, which is similar to microsoft office, and i think there should be any adobe alternative in the internet, which you could install.
Sebastian Rolando Valdivia Melgarejo fair enough but libreoffice never really imported documents made in Microsoft office well and I’d rather just stick to the programs I’m used to instead of getting used to a whole new set of applications.
well, if you preffer paying subscription licenses or use cracked software instead of getting used to software you could run anyware, the choice is yours. but i see your point
@Kynance Joe Ok, that's fair. But the thing about open source is that its cross platform, you can use whenever you want. And also, the more a project is popular and supported, the better the software is. So, if open source alternatives were more supported, it would almost be the end of “being forced to pay a bunch of money just to use the main tools".
João Linhares I see your point however I will happily support these open source projects if they start to hold a candle to photoshop, premier and animate because at the moment I need to use these programs with school and it would be really annoying to do a lot work on my laptop and then the computers at school can’t read any of the file formats.
@Kynance Joe It's not actually open source projects's fault. It's adobe's. THEY block their access to most codecs and formats and they could simply open lots of open project formats too. Also, have you ever heard of DaVInci Resolve?? Waaaay better than premiere, has a free version and also you can buy ONE license of the paid version and keep it forever. (not open source though)
João Linhares I wasn’t saying it’s open source project’s fault that adobe programs aren’t compatible with other programs and I agree that’s it’s stupid that you have to pay a very expensive subscription for something that isn’t worth the price however at the moment it’s out of my control wether I want to use these programs or not because I have to and would rather not go through the conversion process to migrate between adobe at school and the programs I have at home so until finish work I’ll have to stick with them.
Why would you want office on Linux 1. Use office 365 Online, it just works 2. or just use libreoffice it's exactly the same and it's compatible with everything else
ish are you sure I tried importing docx files and all the formatting went away and most PowerPoint files I import break as well.

@Kynance Joe Sometimes I don't get it... You have Google Docs, which is free, but it has a slight compatibility issue with docx. You have Libreoffice which is free and open source and also has some slight compatibility issues with docx. Why don't people use ODT (Open Document Text) which is the ISO standard documentation, which works fine in ANY Word processor in the market? But no, instead let's force everyone to use the paid or limited "free" Microsoft Office
João Linhares I don’t know why it’s such a big deal I use the software I do and I get the files from school with a certain file format that isn’t compatible with other programs and that’s just the way it is. I would love it if people could use the software they want with the files they’re given but sometimes that’s not the case and unfortunately for the Linux community my pc will still have a copy of windows 10 1909 with the telemetry turned off and all the games and software I use installed and working fine and until it makes sense for me personally to switch I’m going to stay with my personal setup. Like I’m not saying I don’t use Linux, hell I have Ubuntu 18.04 (ik you don’t have to tell me there are better options) on my laptop which I use for certain things Linux does better but for now windows works better for me.
But all the reasons you said is only intended to people who usually works with software.
Free and Open Source, who will read those most users who use a computer for web browsing or offices don't care about it.
And Software... again, people just want what easiest for them such as adobe... because there is much more tutorial on those product then the open source counterpart.
And the most important thing a lot of laptop come pre-installed with windows and not everybody know how and want to reinstall their os.
Everyone is trying to convice most windows user to switch. No way im switching. Linux doesnt support my drivers and their software and other capabilities
Not because you can run almost everything from windows on Linux, and ppl are already working on something that lets you run Mac OS software on Linux/BSD
@Mxcrider yea im savin up some money for upgrading my pc. But this current pandemic the prices of parts are still overpriced. Might upgrade my pc next year xd
@Harira Normal he says most server and the www are powered by linus, and means this is a reason to switch. but normal desktop users have different requirements than server OSes, which serve server purposes
Hagen Zagola I think he mentioned that Linux ran on servers to show how it has many use cases and is superior to OSs such as Windoze for BOTH server and desktop needs
Yea, but Linux Desktop isn't suited for every single user ever, and there are Distros that completely remove the requirement of any Knowledge or needing to learn how to e.g. use bash etc
??? Minecraft runs way better on Linux than on Windows, I get terrible frame rates on Windows when I'm on e.g. hypixel like only 75 but on Linux it's over 200 on hypixel, and all the kids and stuff run on Linux anyways (if you mean badlion client and stuff you shouldn't use those, badlion is most probably a spyware/virus anyways)
There are a couple of solutions: Dual boot: you can set up dual boot and boot windows only when you want to game. This is not a very good solution. Virtual Machines: you can run windows, another distro, or any operating system in a window on a Linux desktop. This will take up a lot of processing. Steam: many steam games can be run on Linux with no extra setup. Wine: this allowed running windows exe files on Linux. This can be buggy at times. Stadia: works well, as long as you have extra money, good internet, and the game you want to play is on the stadia store. Vnc: if you have two or more PCs, you can run windows on one and Linux on the other, and use vnc from the Linux computer to remotely connect into the windows pc. Only works if you have good wifi and 2 PCs.
@ish well they technically work, but they're are so "glitchy" or smth, for example random SFXs play at random times, which is sometimes annoying and no I don't get those in windows, so i'm sticking with windows for my games, and use linux for other stuff
Many websites are deployed in Linux server, as it uses system resources efficiently and everything works perfectly , unlike windows with random disturbing annoying updates and in linux apps that are trusted by community added in the app store not as often in windows going to each websites for them and there windows store app is not that useful .
@Octoomy YT Productions it happend for me every weekend or 2nd one for sure , in last three months of usage . the issue is that windows itself use more than 40% ram at start and 70%+ around 8-10hrs of continuous usage time , for 8GB RAM , where's Linux always has less then 1GBof ram usage while startup and doesn't go higher then 40-50% after 8-10hrs and updates are seamless that is reason why Linux is used in servers , and there is lot of RAM for apps usage , I use 5-11 apps in Linux while only 5 apps slow down in window , the common apps are browser, vs code, postman, database workbench, note taking app, couple of terminals
@Alex seriously all apps in Linux can be downloaded from app store while windows store don't even have commonly used apps , and has annoying signing and cortana options everywhere, and there crazy tracking of user is beyond Facebook .
@mb k I been using Windows 10 for over 3 years now. I never once unless I wanted to update my pc in the middle of a session. Also assuming you have 8 gigs of ram and a 2016 I5 mid range (basically my old laptop that i still use) unless i had a ton of stuff in startup; it only went over 50% with ram and 40% cpu underload. I been using Ubuntu for over a 1 1/2 on the same laptop; no issues except that drivers are not that easy to find for my laptop.
Similar things with Linux and Windows that you don't need to use the appstore. you could download them from the website. I only use one WSA and thats stuff like Alexa and the bedrock addition of minecraft. Linux is good in my opinion but the point you are trying to make that windows update randomly never happened to me and only 15% of a 160 person discord server said that windows did update randomly. Just to let you know.
As Richard Stallman (founder of the Free Software Foundation and The GNU Project) said, here are some apps to avoid: * Airbnb * Amazon * Amtrak * Discord * Eventbrite * Evernote * Facebook * Google (including all its services) * LinkedIn * Lyft * Netflix * Patreon * Skype * Slack * Spotify * Twitter * Uber * WharsApp * Zoom
I have an expensive Gaming PC with specs: CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x GPUs: GeForce GTX 1080 & Radeon RX 580 RAM: 32GB and some dad's And I run Linux on it. Everything in my steam library works and my steam library is huge.
See the problem is not with Linux, it's the people who uses Linux to watch videos and play games and listen to music and shit on other OSs because they think they are superior because they use Linux.
@suraj hebbal He was joking, Gentoo Is iterally for people that have used Linux for like 5 years. My list of recommended ones would just be Debian or Fedora
@not hing Tried both Manjaro and Popos. Just talking about driver issues there were things like internet speeds being cut in half (tried using WiFi and Ethernet, same result), issues between duel monitors at different refresh rates, RGB controls, among others.
@ish That's the opposite with Linux when it comes to drivers. Why do you think the stereotype of old laptops running Linux is a thing? That aside my hardware is all new and all AMD (b550, ryzen 5 3600, RX 570). The wifi issue may be fixed as new updates become available for my motherboard. But things I still have issues with like monitors and their features being properly handled by Linux is still an issue. Even this guy's vid on why windows is better vid mentioned the great driver support windows has for being the leading OS

@Skiez Tell me a driver that doesn't work and doesn't have a good alternative on Linux. All my hardware works with the drivers I got, I have an AverMedia Capture Card working, HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Keyboard with animated keys working, my dad's ultra expensive printer (Konica minolta bizhub c227), a German WiFi stick that only has drivers for windows I got working too and pretty much if your hardware isn't shit it'll most probably work on Linux
You get better frame rates on Linux in most games... and in native games it's almost certain that you get more, windows is bloated as fuck, and it's slow for a reason
To not want to shoot myself in the head with Linux by installing things the hard way which should be installed the easy way, and get the actual work done Oh and also: Adobe products
@Max so true....
Lumic and if that’s what you want to do on your computer then your entirely screwed. Not everyone needs to use the same OS. Linux is for people who want more control over their system, mac users want to more focus on the work not what they’re using to do it. And windows users like the software that has been specifically made for windows. Personally, I tried Linux once on a chrome book and I couldn’t get anything to work. Downloads sucked. But It did have java which chrome os did not.
@Max Cuz i dont know how to host it on linux. Which OS should i use? How can i run it? What commands should i use? Im using my Raspberry Pi4 and there are no useable tutorial for minecraft bedrock server hosting on internet. If you know how to host minecraft bedrock server on raspberry Pi4? Please tell me know. The BEDROCK Edition, not PC JAVA.
@Hoàng Anh Hakuso When you use a Raspberry Pi i would use Raspbian as OS And If you new to Linux and the CLI (Stands for Comand Line Interface) i would recommend to use the GUI.
I have no experience with Bedrock Servers, are they also running on Java? (Do you execute a .Jar file on startup)
If they run with Java it should work on Rasbian.
Do you have Discord? (If you need help)
Please excuse my terrible English I have only a German keyboard on my Phone 😂
@Max nope. Bedrock edition run on C++ not Java. On windows, i can easily install microsoft visual C++ to run bedrock server but i dont know how t do that on Linux.
Hoàng Anh 2-11A9 eh, running bedrock feels like missing out on a huge part of the game, which is the mods, I personally love playing modded and tools like voxel sniper and world edit just plain don’t exist for bedrock. This makes those impressive and super fun large scale builds just excruciatingly painful, so I’ll stick to the version of mc that lets me do that.
Hoàng Anh 2-11A9 also it literally says on the downloads page of the server how to host on Linux, I don’t think using a pi would work tho as the server is probably compiled for x86_64
It supports 32-bit and 64-bit apps, easily makes Minecraft bedrock servers, automatically installs Candy Crush, has tablet mode, supports Open Shell and so much more r/woooooosh me if this is a joke
@Synd1cate valorant is a very good game so like I know you like Linux but just because something won't work on it doesn't mean you have to hate on it, the Linux community is really not as friendly as I thought, I legit just encountered some like really bad fanboys in the comments
@Synd1cate so you don't like Linux anymore? cause apparently (not just YouTube) saying something doesn't work or saying you don't like Linux drives a bunch of Fanboys attacking you
Windows can also shit itself and just brick it’s own install, this hasn’t happened to me once either, this has happened to me a record number of 4 times....
catz64 I wouldn’t hate it if it wasn’t consistently crashing on all sorts of hardware that I’ve used, across the 8 laptops that I’ve used. Windows has always managed to crash when using anything cpu intensive or gpu intensive like blender or anything like tensorflow. Most of the time I have zero clue what the os is doing and can’t fix it myself which more often than not I can on gentoo by fixing useflags etc.. don’t get me wrong I don’t think that windows shouldn’t exist, it has its place for legacy compatibility, but by doing so brings instability and cruft that bogs down a system.
One reason, it's not. Linux is just for geeks who think that his data is important to CIA. Who want to install basic app with terminal commands? No one normal!
While I am a geek that loves to install things with commands (cause I can easily reinstall everything using a single script) I use it for the performance too cause windows just hogs down my ssd
You probably don't know anything about Linux. You don't have to use terminal to install an app at all. Just go to software center, search the app you want, click Install, type your password and DONE.
Ok pal just open your browser, search for you program (check if you have to buy it or not), download your exe file, get a whole bunch of licensing crap, and install your program!! No need to complain about a few click in the *Software Center or even non forced updates
That’s an incredibly stupid reason to HATE something. It’s not on all of the devs working on Linux and as such Linux itself, it’s on the devs of the software you use. They’re mostly the ones at fault
True, but it's far easier to tell. If an entire community of people obsessed about security can read though the source code, any security issues are going to be found out quickly.
@linuxnoodle Yes true but this also make the exploiter and hackers/malware writers jobs easier since its so open source. I am not trying to shit on linux since i use it daily as a dual boot for my laptop with windows 10 and Ubuntu
No one said that, but it does because you know the people don't spy on you (if they would you could just see and no one would use it), Windows obviously collects data, it's on of the first things you see when you install it
@ish 1st.Its a common misconseption 2.herei a list of companies that collects and (possibly) sells your data; Alphabet (Googles parent company), Discord, Facebook and all their apps, Snapchat, Microsoft, Apple, Xpress, Nintendo, Sony, ect ect.
João Gomes2020-09-06 20:46:37 (edited 2020-09-06 20:48:54 )
@Skiez Yeah sure Candy Crush (Both two sagas) 3D viewer, Cooking Fever and Xbox and a whole bunch of stuff preinstalled is definetily not bloatware. Also, just google "bloatware" and see the images and take your conclusions :)
@Skiez Hahah as you said, CUSTOM build. Not something you already have preinstalled on your computer or oficial. As far as I know TeamOS or any other custom build is not from Microsoft so it doesn't really count. Windows IS indeed bloatware. Your custom build can be less bloatware, cause Windows 7 (the best windows ever) was still bloatware in technical reasons.
João Linhares “Windows is bloatware”. I literally looked at the list of apps i have installed in my pc. The only bloatware i found was skype and solitaire. Idk how 2 apps that are only 16 KBcan make my whole operating. system bloatware. Like if you build a pc. The motherboard does not come with a operating system. Its impossible for them to put in their pre-installed apps if the motherboard doesnt have anything installed.
@Skiez @Skiez I'm not talking about your custom build pc in that matter. What I mean by preinstalled, it is the computers and notebooks that you buy at the store that already have windows 10 forcibly preinstalled and, yes, it has tons of bloatware by default. The discussion here is about Windows 10 being bloatware and not about the custom build you made. So if you say windows 10 is not bloatware you either consider windows 10 only your the custom windows build you installed on your custom pc (probably TeamOS or something) or you don't consider Candy Crush, Cooking Fever, Paint 3D and other stuff preinstalled on an official ISO bloatware. That's all.
I'm not sure if TeamOS custom ISO is for that kind of thing, but probably some third party software like Component Remover to remove the unecessary stuff that gets installed out of the box. Still not official Windows.
@Skiez of course not every game will work perfectly out of the box with Proton, but a lot of games work great, and if they don't, as I said dual boot or GPU passthrough are an option too
Laurin Neff My bad. i didnt see that “dual boot” part in your comment. Sometimes i dont read the whole sentence while texting or commenting people on Discord. My bad. I apologize
@not hing I've tried wine tho and it wouldn't install. It was on lubuntu. I'm not used to the Ubuntu lay out because it looks like the Mac layout, and I use windows.
@Flyingsgetti Well, I do not recommend Lubunto at all. It has horrible user experience. So I would recommend using a Kubuntu or Linux Mint. And also, you should probably use PlayOnLinux to make your games run, its easier.
Yeah exactly, not everyone should use one type of OS. Personally I use windows because I grew up with it, like the UI, and know what programs I can download.
@Falcy linux is not like that nowadays. it's not booting into a black terminal anymore.
do you really think that booting a full functional usb with some Ubuntu or Linux Mint and being able to use it out of the box is “having to worry about your system"???
Yes, you can install steam in linux, and you can use other windows program running tools like wine, lutris (wine based), proton (from steam play) and playonlinux (another wine based)
@Sebastian1000login yes I tried lutris, no dice, I also tried proton which gave same problem except this time I had no window pop up. Sadly wineis a mess to set up unless someone has a guide for it for a specific game.
@Logan T The only reason Linux has no malware is because very few use it for general computing. Besides I haven't had a single virus on my computer in the last 7 years.
@Robloxian from Robloxity Wrong. The reason Linux doesn't get malware is because it uses a UNIX-like kernel, therefore it has user privileges so malware can't infect the system. There are 3 user types in the UNIX and Linux kernels, Root, Administrator and Standard User. Administrators have to enter their password to run certain commands that malware would generally exploit, but can't because of the root permissions. Root (as previously explained) is the superuser and cannot normally be logged into unless you set its password and login to be accessible from the login screen. Superusers can run any command, some of which can damage the system or even wipe the drive entirely, therefore admins use sudo to run a command as the superuser. A Standard User cannot use sudo commands and therefore cannot run generally dangerous commands. Malware is useless in Linux as it would require an admin's password to run its bad commands, so the user would be able to stop it from running simply by clicking "Cancel" and the malware is dead. It is the same in macOS, so either are safer than Windows.
@Robloxian from Robloxity If you're sure enough to use the cinnamon DE (wich uses a lot of ram) in linux mint, be sure to enable the snap store, here's the official article about the disable of snap in this distro and how to enable it: https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/snap.html In other distros, snap is still enabled.
@Sebastian1000login Yeah, it's all set up now. I am running LM 20 with Cinnamon and snap stores enabled. Uses around 800mb ram which is way better than Windows 10 which used 2.1 GB on startup. Also I set up Lutris and managed to get Need For Speed World working flawlessly with DXVK and Gamemode now. Thanks!
@not hing I woukd be saying that manjaro is better, because of the arch linux base system instead of ubuntu, and of the lower resource usage of manjaro's DE wich is kde plasma
@not hing I know I found out Linux Mint is gay, because it kept giving me framedrops all the time on NFS: World. I'm using Manjaro now with Linux 5.8, Esync and Fsync enabled which keeps me at a solid 60fps constantly. :)
Full disk encryption is available in Windows too. Ever heard of BitLocker? Lots of open source software is available in Windows. Microsoft did a huge shift towards open source in the past. Most of their modern tools and frameworks (VSCode, .NET Core and Standard, etc) ARE open source. In Windows 10 we now have a WSL - native Linux core running in Windows with the full access to the file system and processes of Windows. There are MANY more tools in Windows. For example, I have a tool that automatically interpolates videos with FPS lower than 60 to 60 FPS. Got anything like that in Linux? In Windows we have a great tool for working remotely, it's called RDP. VNC and stuff like that is EXTREMELY slow in comparison.
The thing with Linux support is that not enough people use Linux. And because very few people use Linux, software developers tend not to support Linux. Chicken and egg scenario.
Windows is just crap and everything in it it's packed with so many useless features the interface isn't consistent, command line sucks on windows, settings app sucks and is only for low level shit that no one cares about, it comes with bloodware pre-installed, windows gets slow even if you don't install any apps after 2-3 months it will get slower, lts version costs around 700€, there are even more reasons why it sucks, or explain to me why most stuff even from Microsoft runs Linux and Linux as a hole is there more used operating system it may not be on desktop, but android for example uses a Linux core or the most spelled computer in the world (raspirarry pi) comes with it own Linux distros, bassicly if you toaster can go on the internet it uses linux
@ml_serenity oh man the backend of windows isn't good also windows design is inconsistent and crappy, sure the settings app looks the same but u can't really do anything important in it
@ml_serenity no no it's not, Windows has so many problems and doesn't have the features that Linux have or why does your Xbox controller run Linux or why do most of the Microsoft server run Linux? Stuff like live core or that the operating system doesn't degrade over time are things that windows doesn't have, my dad has the same kde installed now for over 16 years and even though he used it a ton it didn't got slower, the windows he has installed for 2 years now is painfully slow even though he rarely uses it and no its not the pc's fault (he has a ryzen 1500x with a 1050ti and 16gigs of ram). Windows also is super heavy on resources without even doing anything + it is super inconsistent, inconvenient and unstable
@ml_serenity you know windows is 120$, for 10 at least. And it comes with so much bloat, and so much crap. I know because I FRICKING USE WINDOWS. I INSTALLED WINDOWS ON A LAPTOP WITH 80 GIGS OF STOARAGE AND IT USED 20 GB, WHILE LINUX USE 10. WHY ARE YOU SUPPORTING A CRAP OS THAT IM FORCED TO USE BECAUSE IT HAS MORE SUPPORT? Im switching to linux at some point, since they get more and more support.
@ml_serenity you know it actually is on most games. Minecraft ran with same fps, if not better, same for CSGO and most other games. Do your research but make sure it's not out of date. What are you? A Microsoft fanboy? The os sucks and I hope Linux gets more and more people because Microsoft is a sucky money farm.
@Elsyvien What features Windows doesn't have that Linux has? Did you heard about WSL2 for those few of us needing specific "linux features"? I don't care what servers run. We're talking about desktops here.
@ml_serenity bruh Linux is better, but it's good it's free. You can pick what look you want without the chance of getting Maleware (windows) less security flaws (windows is unsecure af, Go read the news), and Linux has just as good support. If you have a decent PC games with native support on Linux run better then windows and FPS with Steam's proton is almost perfect, with less then 5% frame loss. RDP can be interfaced and I know because I USED IT ON MY LINUX SERVER. You support a crap, overpriced OS with an unsecure kernel.
@ml_serenity It's 0$ because it's open source. Why don't you go try Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS for yourself before judging an OS because it's free. Microsoft Fanboy.
@cbob74 I've been trying to get into Linux for 20+ years and still am coming back to Windows because Windows has MUCH MUCH better choice of software. Linux is getting better, but Windows is getting better much faster and with WSL2 there is literally 0 reason to have linux installed.
@Ujjwal Kumar Yeah, tell me about that. Please. I have been using PCs since 97. I have master degree in computer science, I am a lead software architect since 2014. So please tell me how to use computers. I am all ears!
@catz64 Well, not all Linux users are like you described. There are much more people who want to help new users rather be toxic. Linux has become very Windows-User friendly recently (See Manjaro). There are various Desktop Eviroments that can fit each user's needs. Technically, Linux has always been user friendly, but most newcomers are too afraid to use the terminal. Also don't use ubuntu.
@Alex android is based on Linux if you didn't know that, you can see it by going into the settings under information, kernel it should say you're Linux kernel
@Bread industries yeah the forums of Linux are way better then Microsoft forums where people just recommend rebooting or reinstalling new drivers, I once had an issue with some stupid ip forwarder called "teredo" (it's made by Microsoft btw) and I asked support for help and the support didn't even know what teredo is and told me I should update my bios I mean tf
@ml_serenity Ok, it seems you are a big Windows and Microsoft fan and know nothing about Linux, but that doesn't mean it sucks. Linux can be more secure than Windows. Btw did you know that Windows is a spyware too? :)
@Mátyás Márk Kovács It seems like you're a big linux fun and know nothing about Linux. I have 8 years of experience with Linux, btw, so I know VERY well what I am talking about.
@ml_serenity Interesting... You told earlier, you are trying to get into Linux for 20+ years and still going back to Windows. Well you probably doing something wrong, and Linux is not for you.
1. Isn't suitable for all users and not user friendly. 2. Lacks support of many softwares available on other platforms. 3. Un/Installation of softwares mostly requires a "How to **" search. Doesn't even lists installed softwares properly. 4. Doesn't properly supports Sleep and Hibernate. In newer versions, Hibernate is disabled by default.
I would like to add one more pros - Customising OS as per your requirement is easier.
1. It is suitable for all users espacially distros like kde (my grandma and grandpa are using Linux too) 2. Most software is available on Linux and if not you can run windows software on Linux too 3. No install and uninstall is super easy, either u use a store that comes with the distros or simply use aptitude in command line
Just because the paradigm is different does not mean that it isn’t user friendly, to you a windows user it isn’t because all you’ve had is GUI shoved down your throat to do everything for you, sleep and hibernate work well enough and do the job, software installation is really easy... like stupid simple, almost like “get x” in terms of getting what you want without the risk of shit sites giving you a binary with a virus, software support is only lacking because software devs target bigger platforms to sell more.
@João Gomes it's a widely used by the professionals tho, it will be a problem once you started to work with other people, as they might not able to run your file format or you can't run their file format, or there's imperfection on the data read by software due to different way of implementation of the function by the developers. Adobe isn't everything, but it's crucial for making sure the compability of the file between multiple collaborators to ensure high efficiency
@Samuel Ling Even if that's true, the main reason I am part of the free software community it is that I disagree with a proprietary and REALLY EXPENSIVE tool it is tecnically a standard. I believe in a future of digital accessibility and security and Adobe and other tech companies seem to not help that much.
@Samuel Ling So I still prefer to contribute with a community that wants the digital freedom. And I think that everyone should show at least a little bit of support even if they can't use most of libre software (because we understand why). Because the more support we have, the more we have good free software (just like Blender) and the less we have to care about licenses. And also, free software is cross platform (depending on its purpose obviously)
Point 2 is sometimes addressed as also being a downside. Everyone is trying to develop/write and maintain the same apps/functionalities, but on each of their own version, essentially spreading and thinning out efforts.
0 likesI’m not much of a hacker but I do program and I’ve actually really enjoyed switching to kali recently. It seems very stable, I love the interface, and it comes with a ton of convenient tools

6 likesUntil you got brick the Linux itself and then can't recover your important data.. Also this applies to Windows and Mac OS.
Replies (5)
you can't 'brick' linux, bricking is when you for example flash the bios on a motherboard and it doesn't boot anymore
1 likeIf your linux bootloader is missing and you cant install it back, you can move your important data to an usb, booting first from a live session on linux on another bootable usb
1 likeThats what I did for recovering my school data after formatting my hard disk, because the bios flash update of my motherboard deleted grub and put windows as default, and grub didnt appear in the bios, neither on the bbs properties (I doesnt remember if that was called like that, sorry)
1 like@Sebastian1000login still not bricking, it boots perfectly fine, bricking is still when you make the motherboard unbootable and it doesn't even go into the bios or anything
0 likes@ish i never said anything about bricking, i only said about grub deletion
0 likesIf there be any open source company willing to create an ecosystem product like Adobe, I'm sure people will consider Linux an operating system.
0 likesAs someone who uses linux: yeh but 80% of my steam library suddenly vanishes.
25 likesAnd no, wine is not the cure-all ive been lead to believe.
Replies (5)
@ish nah, I try on my Mac then it is gone
0 likesAgreed
0 likesish literally my first experience with wine was to try and install an app and half the app didnt render, including the “proceed” button, so i just couldnt install it.
3 likesAnd id argue that if you have to work in order to get something like wine to run, it would be wiser for me to just hit the reset button on my pc real quick and then switch back over to windows where it all just works without wine.
And for the record, i did actually try, because i set myself a challenge to only use ubuntu for a week, and i gave up after trying to make wine run for a day. Ive done some tedious stuff to get my ubuntu install exactly the way i want it and im ok with that, but wine broke me.
@Joshinken usually takes a lot of tweaks to get stuff working, results vary alot. Some apps don't work at all
0 likes@bonkmaykr I didn't say wine is perfect, and it's definitely not, but if something doesn't run, there's a reason for it, and there will most probably already be a way to fix it easily (and I explicitly meant the Linux version of wine the Mac version is literally useless because graphics on Mac are fucked anyways, and why are you talking about mac? we're talking about linux here)
1 likeAnd it doesn't run half the applications I use. I'll be more than happy to switch when it does.

You can try with wine or some linux alternatives
17 likesOne example is that one day, for school reasons, i had to edit a video and everyone on my team said that they will do that on the free trial of filmora, and as filmora doesnt exist in linux, i searched for an alternative, and in that day i knew about the existance of openshot, a little laggy but it was completely free and my final video didnt had a water mark (and my classmates though that i bough filmora)
36 likesUse virtual boxes. They can simulate windows and you can still play. Just not at a kernal level
10 likesIf you have a powerful PC you can use VMs or wine and it will work great, otherwise you should use alternatives
7 likes@catz64 oof, i didn't considered that, and i didnt know about the existance of davinci resolve, anyways, thanks for the point, in my country, no one knows about linux and every time I talk about linux to my classmates they say "Sebastian, stop promoting fake viruses, only windows and mac exist" and i doesnt even promote linux, i just want that more people in my country could use linux
7 likes@catz64 peru
1 like@catz64 only 1%of the people here knows about linux
2 likes@WifiDuck you can actually uae PCI passthrough on a lot of distros which allows VMs to run pretty much at kernel level
0 likes@Sebastian1000login Try out Kdenlive, it's a really good editor. There is a learning curve though but once you're over that, it is fantastic.
0 likes@Ryan K ok thanks, i'll be counting that :)
1 like@Sebastian1000login Damn, Linux is the official US for public institutions here in Brazil. Most kids grew up using Linux at school. But there's still tons of prejudice because most still use Windows at home. I love Linux and have never had any problems. I use Kdenlive for editing.
0 likes@Pacheko Glad to hear that. In my country, the only school in the whole country that uses linux in the students computers is a private school where I study, innova schools, but every student here only says that the os on the laptops in the computer rooms is a weird bootleg of windows and they doesn't like it.
1 like@Sebastian1000login xD
0 likes@Sebastian1000login when wine works, it works well, when it doesn't work it really doesn't work, and in my case using Virtual Machines just freezes the host distro, while on windows (and I've also tried hackintosh) don't do that
0 likesThen half of the applications you use are probably stupid
0 likes(and you can most probably run it through wine)
@ish Really the only programs I use regularly are
0 likes1. Edge (the chromium version)
2. Paint.net (I know there's an alternative but it's not as good)
3. Some drivers for stuff I have aren't compatible with linux, even if those arent programs I'll consider them as such
4. Rockstar Launcher (which apparently doesn't run on linux yet)
@WifiDuck kvm is a good alternative to virtualbox
0 likesMostly there are alternates available. Once you get used to them, you'll have the same argument against Windows.
0 likes@Muhammad bin Yusrat I see none of you have employers and domain specific apps that need to be used... Regardless of alternatives, it's not always an option...
0 likes@Muhammad bin Yusrat honestly a lot of distros give me a feeling of hollowness, and the fact that most distros rely on the terminal will certainly scare some people away from it. Plus alternatives to software are usually not as good as the og application
0 likes@Sebastien St-Laurent Which domain specific app for example?
0 likes@NextinHKRY Yes it certainly will. IMHO Its actually good for Linux that only the computer-ninjas use Linux. This makes the people making viruses and Trojans less motivated to write a malicious software for Linux. Which would of course keep Linux safe on the long run.
0 likes@Muhammad bin Yusrat Yeah, but at the same time, it means less people will be using the software, so it depends on how you look at it
0 likes@NextinHKRY Yes, but less people using a solid software is not a bad thing in anyway.
0 likesbut that's not me

1 likeIt will never run those applications if you never switch. Software companies just listen to money and metrics. Personally I can only think of a handful of things I genuinely can’t get running on Linux and only a smaller handful that I would truly care about.

Joaquin Dayrit Not really. Pretty minimal. You wouldn't notice a difference.
0 likesNot really, but an SSD is recommended. (highest drop I get from non encrypted to encrypted is like a few mb/s less) and Windows uses no encryption at all so it's a huge benefit on Windows you could just Mount the Partition and boom you have access to everything

It also doesn’t work at all with any adobe applications which are programs I currently need for projects I have to finish.
1 likeSo being honest I’ll only ever think about switching to Linux if programs I need to use can at least be forced to work using wine or something similar...

You can use libreoffice in linux, which is similar to microsoft office, and i think there should be any adobe alternative in the internet, which you could install.
0 likesSebastian Rolando Valdivia Melgarejo fair enough but libreoffice never really imported documents made in Microsoft office well and I’d rather just stick to the programs I’m used to instead of getting used to a whole new set of applications.
0 likes@Kynance Joe but if i save the documents i make in libreoffice as .docx files, and i never had any problem
0 likesMaybe i can help you with that
0 likesKynance Joe you have to install windows in a virtual machine on linux for MS Office, it won't work with wine.
0 likeswell, if you preffer paying subscription licenses or use cracked software instead of getting used to software you could run anyware, the choice is yours. but i see your point
0 likesJoão Linhares I’m happy to pay a subscription if I’m getting a better product in return.
0 likes@Kynance Joe Ok, that's fair.
0 likesBut the thing about open source is that its cross platform, you can use whenever you want. And also, the more a project is popular and supported, the better the software is.
So, if open source alternatives were more supported, it would almost be the end of “being forced to pay a bunch of money just to use the main tools".
@Kynance Joe You can take a good example. Blender. It is probably the most supported open source project and it kicks Autodesk Maya's arse.
0 likes@Kynance Joe Also, people cannot complain about big data collection by compannies if they use proprietary softwares...
0 likesJoão Linhares I see your point however I will happily support these open source projects if they start to hold a candle to photoshop, premier and animate because at the moment I need to use these programs with school and it would be really annoying to do a lot work on my laptop and then the computers at school can’t read any of the file formats.
0 likes@Kynance Joe It's not actually open source projects's fault.
0 likesJoão Linhares I wasn’t saying it’s open source project’s fault that adobe programs aren’t compatible with other programs and I agree that’s it’s stupid that you have to pay a very expensive subscription for something that isn’t worth the price however at the moment it’s out of my control wether I want to use these programs or not because I have to and would rather not go through the conversion process to migrate between adobe at school and the programs I have at home so until finish work I’ll have to stick with them.
1 likeWhy would you want office on Linux
0 likes1. Use office 365 Online, it just works
2. or just use libreoffice it's exactly the same and it's compatible with everything else
ish are you sure I tried importing docx files and all the formatting went away and most PowerPoint files I import break as well.
0 likes@Kynance Joe Sometimes I don't get it...
0 likesYou have Google Docs, which is free, but it has a slight compatibility issue with docx.
0 likes@Kynance Joe adobes file formats dont work with other applications because they are meant to only work within adobes applications

2 likesYou can run 95% of non-competetive games on Linux, you will most probably always find a way to play it without a VM
1 likeWell, you can if you use steam. Proton is surprisingly good at playing windows games.
1 like@linuxnoodle proton is independent from steam, you can use it without having steam installed, steam just comes bundled with it
0 likesThat has changed over the years
0 likesWindows 7 Most gaming pcs run linux? What?
0 likesThere are a couple of solutions:
0 likesDual boot: you can set up dual boot and boot windows only when you want to game.
Hope this helps!
@ish I literally only have 3 games on steam that i actually play and 2 of them don't work with proton in linux

0 likes@mb k I been using Windows 10 for over 3 years now.
0 likesSimilar things with Linux and Windows that you don't need to use the appstore. you could download them from the website. I only use one WSA and thats stuff like Alexa and the bedrock addition of minecraft. Linux is good in my opinion but the point you are trying to make that windows update randomly never happened to me and only 15% of a 160 person discord server said that windows did update randomly. Just to let you know.

0 likesIf you have driver issues you just have outdated or bad hardware
0 likes@ish That's the opposite with Linux when it comes to drivers. There are a couple of solutions:
0 likesDual boot: you can set up dual boot and boot windows only when you want to game.
Hope this helps!

0 likesLumic and if that’s what you want to do on your computer then your entirely screwed. Not everyone needs to use the same OS. Windows has always managed to crash when using anything cpu intensive or gpu intensive like blender or anything like tensorflow. Most of the time I have zero clue what the os is doing and can’t fix it myself which more often than not I can on gentoo by fixing useflags etc.. don’t get me wrong I don’t think that windows shouldn’t exist, it has its place for legacy compatibility, but by doing so brings instability and cruft that bogs down a system.

i guess the only reason its because its a monopolized gaming platform so you are forced to play on a bloatware OS
0 likesJoão Linhares Windows isn’t bloatware...
0 likes@Skiez Yeah sure Candy Crush (Both two sagas) 3D viewer, Cooking Fever and Xbox and a whole bunch of stuff preinstalled is definetily not bloatware. Also, just google "bloatware" and see the images and take your conclusions :)
0 likesJoão Linhares Lmfao nice try. Im using a custom built pc. I dont get tons of bloatware (Which why you should not get a pre-builts)
0 likes@Skiez Hahah as you said, CUSTOM build.
0 likesJoão Linhares “Windows is bloatware”.
0 likes@Skiez @Skiez I'm not talking about your custom build pc in that matter. That's all.
0 likesI'm not sure if TeamOS custom ISO is for that kind of thing, but probably some third party software like Component Remover to remove the unecessary stuff that gets installed out of the box. Still not official Windows.

I think bfv is supported by steam proton but I could be wrong
0 likes@Elsyvien nah I got origin not gonna buy bfV on steam

Yes, you can install steam in linux, and you can use other windows program running tools like wine, lutris (wine based), proton (from steam play) and playonlinux (another wine based)
0 likes@Sebastian1000login wine literally gave me cancer so no thank you, windows is still better for application support
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity but you have tried the other ones i mencioned?
0 likes@Sebastian1000login yes I tried lutris, no dice, I also tried proton which gave same problem except this time I had no window pop up. Sadly wineis a mess to set up unless someone has a guide for it for a specific game.
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity at least malware doesn't run in Linux ;)
0 likes@Logan T The only reason Linux has no malware is because very few use it for general computing. Besides I haven't had a single virus on my computer in the last 7 years.
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity Wrong.
0 likes@Logan T Hey what's up, I'm actually sick and tired of using Windows. Im gonna be switching to Linux Mint. Any tips?
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity Not sure sorry, as I don't use Mint (I'm using Zorin OS 15.3 Core) so I have no experience with the DE. Enjoy Mint though!
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity If you're sure enough to use the cinnamon DE (wich uses a lot of ram) in linux mint, be sure to enable the snap store, here's the official article about the disable of snap in this distro and how to enable it: https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/snap.html
0 likesIn other distros, snap is still enabled.
Thanks!
0 likes@Robloxian from Robloxity one online game i recommend of the snap store is xonotic, it's quake 3 like and it have some players actually playing it.
0 likes@not hing I woukd be saying that manjaro is better, because of the arch linux base system instead of ubuntu, and of the lower resource usage of manjaro's DE wich is kde plasma
0 likes@not hing but the arch linux basis is still better for gaming than ubuntu and debian
0 likes@not hing I know I found out Linux Mint is gay, because it kept giving me framedrops all the time on NFS: World. I'm using Manjaro now with Linux 5.8, Esync and Fsync enabled which keeps me at a solid 60fps constantly. :)

2 likesFull disk encryption is available in Windows too.

1 likeLinux is still better.
1 like@YavkataBGgaming <-- yah this guy knows what's up
2 likesRDP is compatible in Linux
1 likeGames run similar
Why don't you go watch LTTs video.
The thing with Linux support is that not enough people use Linux. And because very few people use Linux, software developers tend not to support Linux. Chicken and egg scenario.
4 likes@Bread industries Exactly!
0 likesPersonal preference is a thing, but windows is really crap
6 likesWindows is just crap and everything in it it's packed with so many useless features the interface isn't consistent, command line sucks on windows, settings app sucks and is only for low level shit that no one cares about, it comes with bloodware pre-installed, windows gets slow even if you don't install any apps after 2-3 months it will get slower, lts version costs around 700€, there are even more reasons why it sucks, or explain to me why most stuff even from Microsoft runs Linux and Linux as a hole is there more used operating system it may not be on desktop, but android for example uses a Linux core or the most spelled computer in the world (raspirarry pi) comes with it own Linux distros, bassicly if you toaster can go on the internet it uses linux
3 likes@Elsyvien And still it's MILES ahead of any linux distro ;)
0 likes@Ujjwal Kumar No, it's not. Not at all. It's in fact better than linux due to sheer amount of available software and due to much better UI.
0 likes🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hey someone speaks about the windows super consistent UI
2 likesyour post will go viral on reddit man,
r/assholedesign
@ml_serenity oh man the backend of windows isn't good also windows design is inconsistent and crappy, sure the settings app looks the same but u can't really do anything important in it
1 like@cbob74 No, not similar. Not even close to similar unless sacrificing 20-40% is ok with you.
1 like@ml_serenity no no it's not, Windows has so many problems and doesn't have the features that Linux have or why does your Xbox controller run Linux or why do most of the Microsoft server run Linux? Stuff like live core or that the operating system doesn't degrade over time are things that windows doesn't have, my dad has the same kde installed now for over 16 years and even though he used it a ton it didn't got slower, the windows he has installed for 2 years now is painfully slow even though he rarely uses it and no its not the pc's fault (he has a ryzen 1500x with a 1050ti and 16gigs of ram). Windows also is super heavy on resources without even doing anything + it is super inconsistent, inconvenient and unstable
0 likes@ml_serenity you know windows is 120$, for 10 at least.
0 likes@ml_serenity you know it actually is on most games. Minecraft ran with same fps, if not better, same for CSGO and most other games. Do your research but make sure it's not out of date. What are you? A Microsoft fanboy? The os sucks and I hope Linux gets more and more people because Microsoft is a sucky money farm.
2 likes@cbob74 You are not forced to use any of the "bloat". $120 is a one time per PC purchase. Hardly even worth discussing.
0 likes@Elsyvien What features Windows doesn't have that Linux has? Did you heard about WSL2 for those few of us needing specific "linux features"? I don't care what servers run. We're talking about desktops here.
0 likes@Elsyvien "backend of Windows" - wth are you talking about? Windows design is WAAAAY more consistent, than Linux "design". Rofl...
0 likes@Ujjwal Kumar ok, tell me about consistency of GTK apps in KDE and KDE apps in Gnome. I am all ears, my dear assholeknowsaboutdesign friend.
0 likes@ml_serenity why should it even be included then, when Linux does that for free
1 like@cbob74 Because with Windows you can do EVERYTHING that you can do with Linux AND much more. ;)
0 likes@ml_serenity talk is cheap, show me the code
0 likes@ml_serenity not much more
0 likes@ml_serenity 120$ IS WAY TO MUCH FOR CRAP
1 like@cbob74 $0 is WAY much for linux crap, indeed.
0 likes@Ujjwal Kumar which code, lol?
0 likes@ml_serenity the code behind windows, we know the code behind all the linux kernel, how it works and functions, and m even contributing to the kernel
3 likes@ml_serenity bruh Linux is better, but it's good it's free.
1 like@ml_serenity It's 0$ because it's open source. Why don't you go try Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS for yourself before judging an OS because it's free. Microsoft Fanboy.
1 like@Ujjwal Kumar why is this guy defending it is he sponsored or something it's really a crap OS
1 like@cbob74 I've been trying to get into Linux for 20+ years and still am coming back to Windows because Windows has MUCH MUCH better choice of software. Linux is getting better, but Windows is getting better much faster and with WSL2 there is literally 0 reason to have linux installed.
0 likes@cbob74 Lets ignore him bro 😒
2 likes@Ujjwal Kumar lmao yeah he obv never had a lot of experience with linux xD
1 like@cbob74 Or has a windows 10 affiliated link for us 😂

1 like@catz64 Well, not all Linux users are like you described.
1 like@Alex based on what? if you have an android phone you have an you have Linux and ios too is based on BST/unix
0 likes@Elsyvien I don't have Linux and iOS I use Android.
0 likes@Alex android is based on Linux if you didn't know that, you can see it by going into the settings under information, kernel it should say you're Linux kernel
0 likes@Elsyvien oh
1 like@Bread industries yeah the forums of Linux are way better then Microsoft forums where people just recommend rebooting or reinstalling new drivers, I once had an issue with some stupid ip forwarder called "teredo" (it's made by Microsoft btw) and I asked support for help and the support didn't even know what teredo is and told me I should update my bios I mean tf
0 likes@Halo It only means that you don't know what you're doing.
0 likes@ml_serenity Ok, it seems you are a big Windows and Microsoft fan and know nothing about Linux, but that doesn't mean it sucks. Linux can be more secure than Windows. Btw did you know that Windows is a spyware too? :)
0 likes@Mátyás Márk Kovács It seems like you're a big linux fun and know nothing about Linux. I have 8 years of experience with Linux, btw, so I know VERY well what I am talking about.
0 likes@ml_serenity oh end this thread
2 likesor shut your windows
@ml_serenity Interesting... You told earlier, you are trying to get into Linux for 20+ years and still going back to Windows. Well you probably doing something wrong, and Linux is not for you.

1 like1. Isn't suitable for all users and not user friendly.
4 likes2.
I would like to add one more pros -
Customising OS as per your requirement is easier.

Linux corrupted my entire hard drive partition just by running it on a live cd
0 likes1. It is suitable for all users espacially distros like kde (my grandma and grandpa are using Linux too)
4 likes2. Most software is available on Linux and if not you can run windows software on Linux too
3. No install and uninstall is super easy, either u use a store that comes with the distros or simply use aptitude in command line
LuminumLX Nice
0 likesLuminumLX really?
0 likesJust because the paradigm is different does not mean that it isn’t user friendly, to you a windows user it isn’t because all you’ve had is GUI shoved down your throat to do everything for you, sleep and hibernate work well enough and do the job, software installation is really easy... like stupid simple, almost like “get x” in terms of getting what you want without the risk of shit sites giving you a binary with a virus, software support is only lacking because software devs target bigger platforms to sell more.
0 likes@catz64 1 - GNOME desktop environment
0 likes2 - Adobe is not everything in the world
@João Gomes it's a widely used by the professionals tho, it will be a problem once you started to work with other people, as they might not able to run your file format or you can't run their file format, or there's imperfection on the data read by software due to different way of implementation of the function by the developers. Adobe isn't everything, but it's crucial for making sure the compability of the file between multiple collaborators to ensure high efficiency
0 likes@Samuel Ling Even if that's true, the main reason I am part of the free software community it is that I disagree with a proprietary and REALLY EXPENSIVE tool it is tecnically a standard. I believe in a future of digital accessibility and security and Adobe and other tech companies seem to not help that much.
0 likes@Samuel Ling So I still prefer to contribute with a community that wants the digital freedom. And I think that everyone should show at least a little bit of support even if they can't use most of libre software (because we understand why). Because the more support we have, the more we have good free software (just like Blender) and the less we have to care about licenses. And also, free software is cross platform (depending on its purpose obviously)
