Moby (11 September 1965 in Harlem, New York) is an American musician, songwriter, DJ and photographer. He is known for his electronic music, vegan lifestyle and support for animal rights. From the beginning as a musician in 1982, Moby attracted attention in the early 1990s with his work on electronic dance music, which he experimented in techno and breakbeat genres. He's sold over 20 million albums worldwide. He also released music under the names Voodoo Child, Barracuda, U.H.F., The Brotherhood, DJ Cake, Lopez, On the Rim of the Wheel a Naili Brainstorm/Mindstorm.
Moby plays keyboards, guitar and bass. He took his name from the novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, who is his great-great-granddaughter. His work, although generally focused on different forms of electronic music, explored many other styles.
