A bit of a one-and-done act, the Parlour Band originated from the Channel Island of Jersey between England and France, they were lucky to have their debut 'Is he a friend? Although any squads would make them a full-fledged 'prog rock' band (although they could be sweetly cool points for the Canterbury Prog Award known as Caravan and Khan on tour at the time), nor would there be their only album classic, their colourful and lively arrangement arrangements are plenty of plenty, the group has been willfully a very melodic group of desolate soft rock music. The focus was mostly on time-written and sharp, hmo lake melodies, all prilenic in silky groupe harmonies. Tapping his ostriches is a noisy rocker on a sumptuously packed Hammond organ, but even with the loathed licking of guitar and sighs of harmony in which he worked, it's a shame the band didn't stretch him out barely a half minutes ago. The first real signs are on the sunlit pop drink 'Pretty Hair Girl', a band of suns that 'she makes stoned...', without effort creeping into the bluesy, space-cumped sleepy ballad 'Springs' Sweet Comfort'. Hanging guitars with eye-catching 'Early Morning Eyes' come across a growl of blazes, piano electric star stores and jeans vocals, although for almost five minutes 'Follow Me' wears a little thin and can be seriously shortened by floating jewellery and gratingly joyfully halfway through another second-hander's stumbles into the cemetery! The evening' on the other hand is certainly one of the more ambitious pieces here - the backward effects, the sweet murmuring of bass, the rattling of drums and the swooping queen-like harmonies weave between a recurring symphonic theme powered by the organ and piano, but banal lyrics like 'I can make my lover hit the ceiling' let him down a bit (dig up that snaking outro, though)! Calm acoustic guitars and a shimmering electric piano float through the ballad of hope of 'Don't Be Sad', Argento-like 'Little Goldie' is richly romantic, and 'To Happiness' could almost be a gentler uriah Heep outtake. Almost eight minutes closer 'Home' sees the band play their strongest prog arm, but although the three-piece suite doesn't offer numerous instrumental passages or wild solos, the group provides all sorts of excellent harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles, Supertramp and even the Beach Boys.After this debut, the band would change its name to A Band Called O, then simply The O Band, and turned to something closer to the more direct AOR sound of the American model. As for their only parlour band legacy, although not every song on 'Is A Friend?' is an unforgettable killer, and the album has a professional polish that could leave some wanting a few more rougher edges, it still remains a narrow collection of cool tunes that are well executed, and if they describe it as undemanding or perfect background listening does not sound like negative, Then there's tons to enjoy here. Tapant ses autruches est un rocker bruyant sur un orgue Hammond somptueusement emballé, mais même avec le léchage détesté de la guitare et les soupirs d’harmonie dans lesquels il a travaillé, c’est dommage que le groupe ne l’ait pas étiré il y a à peine une demi-minute. Les premiers vrais signes sont sur la boisson pop ensoleillée « Pretty Hair Girl », une bande de soleils qu'«elle fait lapidé... », sans effort rampant dans la ballade endormie bluesy et space-cumped 'Springs' Sweet Comfort'. Des guitares suspendues avec des « Early Morning Eyes » accrocheurs rencontrent un grognement de flammes, de magasins d’étoiles électriques pour piano et de voix de jeans, bien que pendant près de cinq minutes, « Follow Me » porte un peu mince et puisse être sérieusement raccourci par des bijoux flottants et joyeusement à mi-chemin des trébuchements d’un autre second-main dans le cimetière! La soirée' d’autre part est certainement l’une des pièces les plus ambitieuses ici - les effets à rebours, le doux murmure de la basse, le cliquetis de la batterie et les harmonies de reine-like swooping tissent entre un thème symphonique récurrent alimenté par l’orgue et le piano, mais des paroles banales comme « Je peux faire mon amant a frappé le plafond » l’a laissé tomber un peu (déterrer cette outro serpentante, bien que)! Des guitares acoustiques calmes et un piano électrique chatoyant flottent à travers la ballade de l’espoir de « Don’t Be Sad », « Little Goldie » de type Argento est richement romantique, et « To Happiness » pourrait presque être une prise plus douce d’Uriah Heep. Près de huit minutes plus près de « Home » voit le groupe jouer leur bras prog le plus fort, mais bien que la suite de trois pièces n’offre pas de nombreux passages instrumentaux ou solos sauvages, le groupe fournit toutes sortes d’excellentes harmonies qui rappellent les Beatles, Supertramp et même les Beach Boys.After ce début, le groupe changerait son nom en A Band Called O, puis simplement The O Band, et s’est tourné vers quelque chose de plus proche du son AOR plus direct du modèle américain.
