The Faustian Bargain seems to be a central theme in the show, and I think this episode mainly explores the idea of being so obsessed with one thing that one will go to inordinate lengths to achieve it. We see it with both of the twins, and Gabe seems to have been created to embody the concept of obsession. I find it all quite clever.
There are overall more plot relevant episodes in the season 2 than in season 1, so essentially in any upcoming episode something big can happen at any time.
This is probably my favorite stand alone episode. Love seeing our favorite isoceles monster and all the Muppet references! Mabel finally making a major sacrifice for Dipper was icing on the cake. :D
Oh, also, IIRC, it was said that the laptop erasure thing wasn't real. That was Bill. You see Dipper visibly tired and his eyes close right before it happens and the world turns black and white. If you want more puppet shenanigans, puppet McGucket and puppet Stan appear in some Gravity Falls shorts.
