Maybe it's a clever way to say he's very fast. You might have a scene where a character has a fashion emergency... their mane gets messed up horribly 5 minutes before some super-important life-changing meeting and he springs into action, fixing the problem at lightning speed. A "Sonic Rain-do" if you will.

Y'know what? I don't think that there's any instances where they're referred to as cutie marks. So what if......they're not actually cutie marks? What if they're tattoos that ponies started putting on their body to fill the VOID left behind by cutie marks? Since when we see magic disappear in G4, the cutie marks go too.

I would love to see a sharing the spotlight lesson in G5. I think if we stick to what you were saying about Rocky feeling, useless, it would add so much to his character. Maybe we will even get a lesson about telling your friends that something is wrong. They would be good lessons. I am terrible at telling people things that are important.

Rocky seems like a mild mannered stallion but he keeps thoughts to himself. He probably is hiding a lot.

I like to think he has a sense of mystery to him except most people dont wonder about him.

Perhaps Jazz is perfectly content with not sharing the spotlight like Pipp but Rocky is more ambitious since he was the founder.

He seems more soft and mellow sounding then Pipp. So he probably gets passed up.

Hey Sawtooth, I just realized something BIG! I realized the Mane 6 and the Pillars have another thing in common besides Elements. I realized both groups have a 7th member who is close to the lead Element, Magic/Sorcery! Spike and Stygian...now I was thinking what if the 7th Element was there all along, in plain sight! The Tree ITSELF is made of crystal. What if the Tree is the 7th Element and Stygian and Spike represent the Tree? I mean Stygian is like the Tree in comparison, I mean he formed the Pillars like the Tree formed the Elements! He holds the reason the Pillars exist like the Tree! Same with Spike! The rainboom may have scared Twilight into passing her exam, but the Test WAS to HATCH Spike! Spike's birth plus Twilight's magical confidence is the way she became attached to the other five! Same with Stygian he woke Star Swirl to his power! I think the two elements would be the Element of Respect for Stygian (maybe his cloak?) Element of Virtue and the Element of Support for Spike's Element of Harmony (a shield-shaped crystal, like a scale). What do you think? Is the Tree's body the 7th Element? Are Spike and Stygian both the roots for the Pillars and the Mane Six? What would their Elements be? Do you agree, Sawtooth? Would you do some digging and make a video? It can be to confirm OR agree, I won't feel upset if you find out that I'm incorrect! Anyway, hope you look into it! Love you!

Honestly I didn’t even notice they had cutie marks. But my question(s) is (are), how did the earth ponies get their cutie marks if they never liked magic in the first place? I never thought about these before. Also, what about Jazz's relation to Pipp? As you said Rocky may have had his own salon place in Zephyr Heights and possibly he and Pipp where very close. But Jazz is an Earth Pony. Did Sunny perhaps once have a relationship with her cause Hitch said in the film he was her only remaining friend? How did Pipp and Jazz meet? This is something I just noticed watching this.

I like that there's still a number of ponies in G5 that do jobs that either don't line up at all with their cutie marks or that require them to do something more than just what their special talent is.

For G4 all I can think of on that front off the top of my head is Twilight being a librarian and then a teacher, Rarity being a fashion designer even though her actual mark is for being good with gems, and Muffins being a mailmare with a bubble cutie mark (probably for her bubbly, upbeat personality?). Here we have Sprout being a cop and then an attempted dictator with a literal beet as a cutie mark (possibly a pun on the phrase "beat cop"???), Jazzy with a pedicure cutie mark also having to sing for her job, Pip with a music/leadership cutie mark having to do hair as part of her job, and Sunny with her nebulous "chosen one" cutie mark being a smoothie vendor.

I think it's really important to have this sort of thing shown, since it's really easy to box these characters into just "this one has an ice cream cutie mark so their entire life has to revolve around ice cream and they can't have another job". Sometimes your passion or whatever you're best at isn't your job, and that's okay! I love that they're showing kids that people can do and be good at multiple things, even if it hasn't actually been actively addressed in G5 yet, and G4 had an episode that kind of flew in the face of that idea.

Think about it. Hitch x Pipp:Pitch have a lot in common, Sunny x Izzy:Sunzy, which is my favorite ship in G5, have the potential to become canon and Zipp well we just have to wait and see.

When I was watching G5 I noticed that they only have 1 cutie mark on their rear so in my conclusion I theoryriszed that the cutie marks we see on the rear is actually a tattoo and not a proper cutie mark. When magic disappeared cutie marks were erased from existence all Pegasus, unicorn and earth pony had to get a tattoo in replace off a cutie mark choseing there own destiny… or I could totally be worng and the one cutie mark on their rear is actually a cutie mark. You also know how the Crystal Heart works with a similar principle of resonating with harmony and love etc etc, but can't be just any crystal because it doesn't have the same properties as this magical mineral that seems to run off the unification of ponies?
Well, what if the Crystal Heart is actually a fruit from a crystal tree, and the seed that grew the tree of harmony came from a fruit of this same tree?

Hey sawtooth I thought of something here's some times where the hero's have acted like villains chrysalis basically had her family turned against her (yes her way of ruling wasn't really good but that's what she thought was best for the hive) then thought she would accept the fact that her hive had basically changed to the opposite of what she thought was best they trap a kid in tartus (sorry if its spelt wrong) and in stone I get that she's a villan but she's still a kid plus discord teased tirek (again sorry if it's spelt wrong) about his family issues plus chrysalis seems to only be a villain because she wants the best for her hive and tirek so desperately wants to please his dad we don't know about cozy but she might have a reason to be evil too

I speak as a musician, and in all of my 8 years of being in music, NEVER have I heard of a 1024th note.. tbh can that really even exist? I never really heard of a note past maybe 64 (32 at least). If we put into consideration that it means something, I almost think it portrays how fast he works? Maybe it means he does speedy, yet high quality work. I see it as pipp’s and Jazz’s cutie mark have something to do with all of them. At the bottom of pipp’s cutie mark what we see is a end of a note but it could also be hair that was just done. For jazz’s I see it resembling a lyre.

Gonna be honest here, I didn’t expect your video to go this way. I thought it be more on the fact that ponies only have one cutie mark and that the magic from said cutie mark is starting to resurface since they don’t seem to be as big of a deal anymore.

When mentioning the doubling of notes it reminded me of computer storage, if the teeth of the comb were to represent the 1024th note then it would be equivalent to the 1024 bytes that make up a kilobyte, although likely little more than a badly-conceived means of connecting music and hairstyling (or in this case mane styling) together. If the tone were to really be played and serve as a real-world representation of Rocky's musical "potential" then not only would he be "useless" but it also means he's (to quote from the lyrics of Lily the Pink) "seen but not heard"

But what about the stars? They're similar enough in shape to perhaps represent sharps, so the F, C, and D of any song he sings should also be a half step higher than usual. Come on, we're not done here yet!

I like Rocky's cutie mark but one thing I noticed when looking at it close up is that the "comb" part of the staff also kinda resembles an abstract take on a mic. Like really bare bones but the number of teeth on the comb could have been less and still achieved a "comb" feel but with the amount it currently has it also looks kinda microphone like.

The thing I'm most curious about in the new g5 canon is what is up with the pegasus and unicorn animals! Possibly a side effect to the crystals twilight made?

went to the most recent g5 theory video to bring up something i thought about.
so, thought: what if the reason Sunny Starscout's horn and wings don't seem to be fully there compared to Queen Opaline is because it was kind of a... Half-transformation? It's like if a Magical Girl got interrupted mid-transformation sequence. Because magic had only JUST returned, there wasn't enough power for Sunny to fully transform? After all, it took a while for magic to become strong enough for Earth Pony magic to be shown off and for Dragons to return too. Heck, even Opaline relies on a mix of her Alicorn magic and what seems to be potions. It doesn't seem too far-fetched to me that Sunny is only... Kind of an Alicorn, and she'll get a proper, full transformation when Magic has reached it's peak like it was in the G4 universe (as far as we can tell anyways.)

Honestly Pip kind of has a salon cutie mark with the crown resembling accessories/fashion

I think that the cutie marks in the new generation mean less on what you should do and more on what your passion is. so what they mostly do is probable what there cutie mark show, but that does not limit them anymore.

Actually, there is a music genre called Extratone with 1000 bpm sometimes 10,000 bpm. Fitting to the 1024th note. I don't know much about the genre just know it's the fastest genre out there.

There are pony’s who’s destinies wouldn’t be able to be fully reached, so they’d probably get their cutiemarks whenever they get closest to what their destiny would’ve been. Main example being Zipp. Zipp’s destiny seems to be related to being royal obviously, but also to flying. Her cutiemark is really close to Rainbow’s with a crown, and they discussed how she’s always loved the idea of actually flying, plus how she flies around trying out tricks in Maretime Bay. There must’ve been so many ponies who’s cutiemarks are magic or flying based that never could fulfill their destiny, which probably meant cutiemarks were of less importance or acknowledged less. Also, how people’s cutiemark’s signify their jobs less. Ignore main melody staff and look at Sprout. Deputy with something akin to a farming cutiemark. Overall just interesting observations.

Maybe you're looking too much into it and it's just a note combined with a comb, or it signifies that he's not going to stay where he is for long, because the semihemidemisemidemihemiquaver is such a small fraction of a "normal" length note (crotchet). He'll keep moving on in life, never settling.

i’ve always thought if equestria was a region or a world

I have a theory of my own. It has nothing to do with the video, but i wanted to throw it out there. I did some research, and the equestria girls/ mane 6 are 13 ( in horse years there in there 20's). In " The last problem", the mane 6 are a lot older, I'd say around twice as old as before, so the would be about 23-26 years old. A horses lifespan is from 25-30 years. My theory, based off of this information, is that sadly, the mane 6 die, and without the counsel of friendship, equestria would fall apart. And the school of friendship wouldn't have the exact same lessons as before. Twilight would kind of rule on her own, making things harder. With everyone fighting, discord might try to teach them a lesson by taking their magic, stressing everyone out. Of course, twilight would be planning out all the ways to fix everything. And this is where sawtooth's fate of twilight theory comes in.( Btw, great job on the video 👍) basically, twilight decides to put all of her alicorn magic into it's 3 components, and into 3 crystals, saving everyone from their magic crisis. Twilight lives out the rest of her life as a earth pony,and is reunited with her friends once again.😌that's my theory.

Okay so i have a theory of what happened between twilights time and gen5.
Since twilight as an alicorn lives longer than normal ponies, her friends had to have died at some point. That means twilight would be unable to use the op power of friendship. Of course she had alicorn magic, but if a powerful alicorn was her enemy, she wouldnt be able to win, especially if said alicorn was stealing magic from equestria! Its very clear that the evil alicorn shown in gen5 is after the magic! And thanks to cozy glow in gen4, we know its very easy to just take magic if she used the pillars artifacts. Secondly, i believe twilight alone would not have been able to keep the unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies united in friendship, if everyone was panicking about magic being taken away. Earth ponies wouldnt have been able to farm as well and thus would hoard the food, just like they had done centuries before twilight came to be. Twilight knew that only the power of friendship would defeat the evil alicorn, so she put all of her alicorn magic and the rest of the magic of equestria into these powerful artifacts and made it so that magic would only come back if the power of friendship also returned!!! Specifically so the evil alicorn couldnt take the magic until the ponies were equipped with the op power to stop her!

Actually about animation in the show I think creators just economy on everything in the show including animation and facial expressions. That's why expressions of background ponies looks odd sometimes 😅

I think the timeline in G5 is roughly this

Basically, G5 takes place tbousands of years after G4, which I would say takes place probably at the dawn of electricity or even before that, since well, they're magic, they can get all the light they want with it. But we see in G5 very modern, and even futuristic tech. So maybe G5 takes place in tne future? (I'm talking real world future by the way)

We have seen this before-

This situation can easily be compared to the Pony Tones. Only one of the 4 ponies(later 5 ponies), had a obvious music related cutie mark, potentially being the founder of the Pony Tones. The other ponies had no obvious relation to music without it being a stretch. We know that fluttershy, Big Mac, and Rarity don't sing full time. So it wouldn't be out of the ordinary if something like this happened.

I wouldn't analyze the 3d models from make your mark too hard because it was really bad in animation to the point you can't analyze hidden details 😭 but while watching the special, me and my friend had a theory about the cutie marks. because magic was gone for a really long time, cutie marks have evolved to become non magic related. That means that any cutie marks connected like the mane 6 or the cutie mark crusaders do not exist anymore. The same could be said for job destinys. Cutie marks don't follow the world logic of g4 anymore but more like previous generations of mlp where cutie marks are just there.

I think that cutie marks denote your talent/talents, not destiny. Remember Sunset Shimmer, or rather her cutie marks, which meant that it was supposed to replace Celestia (if cutie marks is fate), but we know it was unlucky, not fortuitous. By her example, it can be understood that cutie marks denote talent, not fate.
In addition, there was a whole series dedicated to cutie marks in the 4th generation, where one foal thought that you would get cutie marks and all your life you would be exactly where cutie marks would indicate, but his brother showed that this was not the case (he is another example).

So I have a theory. I believe the Pegasi were the ones who killed the magic in equestria all those years ago. As we have seen, magic is dependent on the three tribes living in harmony. And while it’s interesting, there’s a problem with it, every time some unicorn and earth pony get in an argument, the magic glitches, causing Pegasi to FALL OUT OF THE SKY! We literally see this happen! There was a small disagreement and a Pegasus fell, crashing into posey, sparking her outrage. I think whoever was in charge of the Pegasi stole the Pegasus crystal to stop injuries all together! Think of how devastating it would’ve been if somepony was far above the clouds and out of nowhere their magic just stopped. (Side note, I hope the comics aren’t cannon cause I prefer your human world theory over the idea that she just made them for some problems between ponies.

I like your theory but….. I wonder if there is another meaning behind his cutie mark instead. A 1024 notes is not an actual not in music (unless music is different in this “world”). Going on the fact it’s not an actual notes, maybe it signifies his personality: He is really fast at making music or really fast at his salon work. It could also hint to his cutie mark and his whole image behind fake (again, since it’s not an actual note). Maybe he is someone who was sent by the new villain and his whole persona is an act. Idk at this point I’m mindlessly brainstorming. One thing i think might be important is how insignificant cutie marks seem. They aren’t shown that much and no part of G5 hints to them. Maybe a side effect of Twilight had to do with cutie marks. We might even see a cutie mark that doesn’t actually resemble what the person mainly does. What do you think about this?

Hello, I realised something re watching the MLP series’. Before Twi becomes an alicorn each mane six member represents how they use their ability’s. AJ uses Earth Pony strength to provide ponies with apples meanwhile pinkie doesn’t. Rainbow dash loves flying and even becomes a wonder bolt because of that passion while Fluttershy doesn’t. Again, Twilight and studies on how to use magic and became an alicorn but rarity doesn’t. Not really important but I rlly wanted to share it pls reply with an opinion.

As a character designer I have to say, that I don't think Rockys cutie mark is that deep. I really like this theory, but I studied how they make MLP cutie marks, and I have to say, that there's 0 special meanings. As I know all of the characters grow with the series, so they have to make the designs simple and not fast foward. I really think it's just comb and note and not other deeper meanings. We have to really think about this generation as generation more kid like and children friendly. That means no fights, no drama etc. Personally, I don't really think we will have deeper meanings and stuff with this generation. I have to say I gave up with G5. I really hate it. It's visibly made for children around 4 to 12.

I think you're thinking about it too much. If the number of teeth on the comb was supposed to reflect the kind of note it was, then there's no point in making it look like a comb in the first place. Besides, what kind of note doesn't really say anything seeing as music has a variety of different kinds of notes. I could argue that if you look at the negative space, the comb also looks like piano keys. But I doubt it's supposed to be interpreted that way.

Well here me out, when Twilight became an Alicorn we saw she had wings and Pegasi magic… but what about Earth pony magic? If we were to see a Pegasus become an Alicorn they would get a horn and Unicorn magic… but the same question stands: What about Earth pony magic? Now my Last point, if we were to see an Earth pony become an Alicorn what would happen? Would it be a step process? An Earth pony would get a horn first and then wings? Or the other way around? Or would they get both at the same time. If a process step did exist is it the same for every pony with any type of magic? Or is it just an all in one everypony that becomes an Alicorn would obtain both magic?
