Starlight was trying too hard to solve things with magic here. What she had to do just couldn't be done that way. It's "Friendship is Magic", not "Magic is Friendship".
Which is why making the episode's title a reference to the song "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" was such a brilliant move. In fact, that title described Starlight's approach to solving a lot of problems, not just the one in this episode.
I'm so glad you realized that Starlight seems to have a lot of anxiety and that's why she does a lot of crazy things like this- I think this episode was definitely a big step for her
Not really if u recall boast busters in season 1 twi said that most unicorns only have basic magic and a little more related to their talent.
so thos means that Sparkle, Glimmer, and Shimmer are the ones that have some sort of talent related to magic itself. and since we know that Twi represents the element of magic is most likely that the other two have a similar talent.

The episode title "Every Little Thing She Does" is referencing the song "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic", which fits Starlight Glimmer perfectly. She tries to solve every problem with magic.
Starlight commanding her friends to do their respective tasks seems simple, but then it goes through a Sorcerer's Apprentice scenario where the tasks go out of control and the teacher must correct it in the end.

@@bonbonpony I know a lot of it was flat out starlight hate. Because a bunch people felt like she was stealing the spotlight from the mane 6 & didn't want her in a main, supporting of background role. It was certainly the case with some people on Equestria daily & Derpibooru.
There's a lot of unexplained hate this season, I never figured out what was the reason behind that and why did it surface in season 6 in particular, because most of the episodes in season 6 were pretty solid, no worse than in previous seasons. Maybe season 5 was too good and raised the bar too high for many people? I don't know, but that's rather not it, because there were people who said that to them season 5 was bad :q As for this episode, it's definitely one of my favourites too. It shows a lot of different aspects of Starlight's personality, her unique talent for magic, and how much power does she have but not quite control it yet. There was a lot of funny moments and interesting interactions between Starlight and the mane six, and it seems that they finally start bonding. I can't really say anything bad about this episode, so I don't get the hate the slightest.

So you're right with your afterthoughts. (And you said you're not an analyst? ;> ) 23:53 Not only that, but this might be the first time she actually apologized on screen for what she did wrong. Until this episode, many people were complaining about that, saying that Starlight's reformation was rushed and forced because she never apologized for her evil deeds.
