I liked Bon bon's randomly changing voice. I wish they'd kept it up, then made some ridiculously over the top reason for it in the Slice of Life episode. Like, maybe she makes different candies which cause her voice to change or something like that.

lol - that was a good one. Usually, I would consider it an animation error like all "unintentional alicorns", but her the in canon explanation adds depth to a scene and character, without adding further implications that would cause issues later. Brilliant.

There's just one problem with you're argument. It's impossible for you to avoid having issues with Carrot Top, seeing as in another episode (The Perfect Swarm), she has a different voice. So you're issue with Bon Bon would apply. Either that or they are two different ponies, perhaps even twins. Or just a recolor, since that was common for background ponies in the earlier seasons.

The reason bonbon's voice is always changing is she is a secret agent who worked for an anti monster agency in canterlot. Some monster she captured escaped and so she had to go deep cover in ponyville and assume the name bonbon. She thought the monster would never be able to track her, but it had. They had to get rid of all evidence of the agency. Oh, and her real name is super agent sweetie drops.
(Not a theory, this is info from a REAL episode)

Actually in the scene with Carrot Top's green mane, if you look in the crowd that Rarity ran past, you will see another Carrot Top in the background with an orange mane. I think, because it was really early in the show, the animators were being a bit lazy (no offence to them) and copy-pasting the same crowd into each early episode.

I have a theory as to why Carrot Top "chose" green for her hair color. In Anne of Green Gables, Anne gets sick of her carrot-orange hair, so she decides to try bleaching it to change the color. However, the bleaching process goes wrong and Anne's hair turns green. I have a feeling that the same thing happened to Carrot Top, but she decided to go with it, hoping that no one would notice. After Rarity makes the green hair comment, Carrot Top gets embarrassed and dyes it back to her original orange color.

They're disparaging comments aka complains, not exactly tributes. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic can be quite harsh, as in Fluttershy's passive-aggressive type harsh, that is, if that is okay with you.
