Video Idea: Turn the Installer Version of Windows into a usable Windows VM

some other interesting facts I've found:
- you can turn the arrow mouse cursor into an icon by changing the extension and 1 byte in the. cur file using a hex editor
- you can press F10 in the Windows 7 styled boot menu to manually edit boot parameters (kind of like what you can do in Linux boot managers)
- holding down F5 in taskmgr while in the performance tab will make the graph update really fast
- you can press certain function keys in command prompt to bring up a list of previously entered commands and a command history search tool
- "Documents and Settings" is a folder that still exists in Windows 10, but it's hidden and a symbolic link to the regular Users folder
- you can enable memory address codes in addition to the normal error code in Windows 8/10 blue screens (they'll show up in the top left corner)
- you can mount drives into regular folders in addition to normal drive letters using diskmgmt.msc
- the Windows 8/10 logo is actually just a trapezoid with two crossing lines going through it
- Windows 10 still has the Windows Vista/7 startup sound (if you enable it)
- the default Windows XP mouse cursors still exist in Windows 10

Good info overall. Some of the facts also apply to much earlier versions of NT, even back to the original 3.1 version. The 260-character path name and the fact that the HKLM & HKU hives of the registry have always been database files are just some examples.

The registry system on Windows is unnecessarily complicated compared to the likes of macOS, BSD and Linux where you have text files in /etc that you can just open with a simple text editor.

The fact about Windows 10 legacy boot menu was my go-to the entire time since I upgraded my hardware for Windows 10 64-bit. And, Endy, there's one thing I've got to say about this: You're a [BIG SHOT] for that. That was the most of the life advice I could afford. No need to go wild with Key+F8. Now, all I need to do is.. somehow switch the drive letter from the side of Windows 10 from C: to O: so the two systems in my hardware configuration match from either side (both legacy Windows 7 32-bit itself and new Windows 10 64-bit). I know where my systems are stored in the disk manager.
0 - Data disk, 1 physical terabyte, GPT.
1 - Future Windows 7 disk, 500 physical gigabytes, MBR to GPT.
2 - Windows 10 disk, 512 physical gigabytes, GPT.

masking executables could definitely be dangerous, I wonder if it goes all the way back to win95 days, or if it only works on NT or higher.

The fact that the terminal checks whether a file is executable sounds like Linux, where extensions are completely unnecessary (kinda, some applications still depend on extensions, probably for cross platform compatibility), since the file itself contains the info on how to be interpreted

Also, it's interesting to see that the way diskdrives work in Windows (considering that there is an actual root folder) is very similar to that of Linux and Unix afterall (with there being only one filetree, independent of drives and partitions), although it's much more masked (probably to make stuff easier to understand for non tech savvy people?)

Permanently deleted files isn't just Windows 10 thing, is a thing that applies to every single device and storage. There are programs that make you able to delete file permanently by deleting it and overwriting it using various methods. You can also do it manually by filling up storage completely with bunch of stuff.

When installing python, you have the option to remove the file path limit. You can likely do this manually, but I am officially immune to file path limits.

if u copy a file that is over the character limit into a folder with a reduced character limit, it copies the file just fine.... you can delete characters but not add them unless you are below file limit.

Oh.. So when I'm older, my project folder will have "a" file names because there are too many folders inside my folders

One other alternative for .exe is .pif, which makes it look like shortcut and you cant see ".pif" part

That fact about the installer also applies to recovery mode - it saved my ass once as I was able to open notepad and save files to a USB drive just using the save/open file dialogue.

But if that file is in D: windows will put it in D:\$recycle.bin\(whatever it is)\file.exe
Thats why restoring a recycled C: file to D: takes more time than restoring it to C:

Also, there is a glitch in Windows 10 Storage Settings. In that when you open that, you can see the file sizes calculating. Then quickly click on anything and come back. You can see that the file size will be glitched and goes somewhere....
You can check that!

Here is something cool for you:

download windows 8.1 then go and update to windows 10.

when you see the update screen, press shift + f10

then taskkill the progress

then when you see "reverting changes" with a progress circle you should open command prompt by clicking shit + f10

then taskkill the progress AGAIN and you will go automatic repair screen

I actually saved about 200gb of data from being overwritten from my mom's computer one time using a trick like Number 5. Using WinDirStat (super useful program for removing/ cleaning big files btw) i could find the files with admin permission and actually save them thru the program.

About the 5:14 one (deleted files): EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is trash. Some months ago, I accidentally formatted my whole personal 64GB USB when burning an ISO file... I tried recovering my files with EaseUS, Stellar and other software, and none seemed to work without corrupting my files. In r/datarecovery, they recommended me 'GetDataBack'. It's interface is a lot 'uglier', but apart from having more advanced tools to personalize the recovery, it actually recovered my whole filesystem with filenames and with the data almost intact!

• Open Run, FIle > Run new task > regedit (Run with admin privileges) bypasses UAC.
