Okay so I never comment on videos BUT after seeing other comments I wanted to say a thing. It does not matter what the heck anyone else thinks of your weird little bun hairstyle. It’s something you really like!! If it makes you happy, makes you feel cute, and you want to keep doing it then by gosh keep putting your hair up in the weird little bun thing. It doesn’t matter what I or anyone else thinks (though I do think it’s adorable but that bc I used to wear it like that before I cut all my hair off lol). Absolutely adore the new EP! By far your best work and I feel as though you really pushed yourself on this one. Monster and If I’m being honest are definitely my favourites from the EP. (My band are covering monster.)

You don't have to like the video; you don't even have to say anything at all. You can just keep scrolling without making negative comments that could potentially mess with other people's mental health.
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of hairstyles that don't have much point. Example: dreads. Literal knots. Can't brush. Can't wash. Literally collects dirt and dandruff. Somehow, no hate. Anyways, hairstyles can just merely be a look without practical use. Kind of like style. People don't often wear crop tops or high heels for practicality. Another thing about style is that often if you're confident enough about it, you can pull it off somehow. For the most part.

@shambamz Personally, I think they look freaking cool but require a very patient person to work it XD (The dandruff comment was a creative exaggeration, I'm sorry. And when I said "somehow, no hate" I meant as in that people generally think they're cool and don't complain about them, not that they deserve hate) and you can wash dreads but not thoroughly, is what I meant. So I mean, you can jump in the shower with them, but there's a limit to how much you can actually rinse them out. Unless there are new ways to do that that I don't know about.

I don't know if you'll ever read my 'review' but here it is just in case: (arms unfolding) this song does exactly what it's supposed to do. it's calming & holds so much meaning within it. you still surprise me how you can fit an entire story in a few lines song! also I just watched your video of you hiding it all around for the past few months & it's totally worth it, it made me fall in love with this song even more. (monster) I was watching videos from your tour the last couple of months [ps. I can't come to see you live cause I live far away :( but I'll try to be there one day] & I came across Monster! I just sat there all excited waiting to know what it would sound like and what meaning it'd hide. by the first note I thought "hey! this is bitter content! Monster comes first in the albums order and there's a lyric in it that says "guess I'm human no more" but then we have a song that says "I'm just human" & it's like the story started as you or the character in the album leaving a bad situation thinking it took all of you and you're left with nothing but with time you realize that you're just.. well human, owning up to yourself and to your story. and I find that beautiful :) - (she) before this ep came out, I remember you mentioning She and that it's making a return and I'm just so thankful. this song means a lot and I'm just glad I can listen to it wherever I go, whenever especially when I need it the most <3 (if I'm being honest) "flirting's delicious proved to be beneficial for mental health" oh yeah, I can relate to that on a spiritual level, only if it actually worked. I see this song as one of your top masterpieces that won't leave my playlist any time soon! (burned out) I had to take a moment when I found out that it was on the ep and we get to hear a studio version of it. Just thank you! I love that song soo much and I think it was a perfect closure for this little album. dodie never disappoints.

I do this! Except I pull it to the back like you would a normal half up half down and legit just make a bun with a smooth loop, so there’s still hair hanging down that’s in the bun but not in the loop, so my curls become really layered and pretty. A bit wild but I love it

Okay I have QUITE A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THE ALBUM. From your video describing your taste in music we have vastly different tastes, which may alter the opinion. Ultimately it was a good album, but I felt that the production didn’t do it justice. I know it’s kinda indie, but everything sounds very quiet and minimal, and especially for a song like Monster I wish we could have a more vibrant sound. Even She you could’ve put more solid parts to fill out the atmosphere. Butttttttttt I did love listening to it and if I hadn’t found your YouTube channel I don’t know if I would’ve found this type of music, and just be stuck listening to jazz and metal. Thanks. Like we have different opinions but I personally would say make the production give the song a fuller atmosphere. Also Not What I Meant is fucking amazing

@Gracie CW Maybe drop some subtle hints (without stating anything definite) to your closest friend and see how they react to those. If it goes well, do it again but make it more obvious. If it still goes well do it with your other friends. Eventually they should catch on and work it out for themselves. My mate did this before coming out as gay and when he finally did we just went "Yeah, we know, we figured it out ages ago," making it not as a big a deal as he first thought. Also, what Zara says. You'll never know for definite until you do it. Unfortunately that scared feeling will be there until you do. If they are your friends they will accept you for you. :-)

Alright, gotta say this because the comments section's gone whack... The same thing happened when a buddy of mine got a haircut that I really didn't like. But I was her friend and I gave her my honest opinion WITH LOVE and RESPECT, full-on knowing that I have my own head to style as I please and that if whatever she's done with hers makes her feel awesome and cool, then I'm friggin glad for her. But bros you can't shun people for being honest and screaming in people's faces that they are cruel or evil for stating their opinion and "hurting Dodie" because only compliments are allowed, she's a big girl you know. And all of you other bros, be respectful even if you disagree with the look, it's her dang hair and her own dang style. No screaming or harsh words my dudes, it ain't your head.

I don’t hate the bun!!! I think if you finesse the style a little it would look more flattering but if you like it then screw what everyone else thinks!! ❤️ If you bring a little more hair from then you can build height to the bun without it being so overtly striking
I didn't like this bun straight away but this would not be even close to the first time I wasn't sure about something and Dodie has changed my mind. That didn't make sense but what I am trying to eat my is I love to bun now and I think it looks great on Dodie.

TL;DR Human didn't quite live up to my expectations, instrumentation and development of initial ideas could have been more concise and would have built on dodie's strengths. More complex instrumentation without a clear purpose detracts from the "lofi-sound" that I adore about her music
I loved quite a few openings and initial impulses in dodie's music. Particularly the opening to "Monster" struck me and I adore the beginning of "If I'm being honest". The thing that would add to the music for me is playing on peoples expectations and trying to make the music more unpredictable. I have listened to dodie's music before and the most predictable thing about her recent releases for me is the instrumentation and how she builds up to the final chorus. Maybe it's because I also listen to classical music, but for me the use of strings never suprises me or stands out. Yes, there is a use of pizzicato in "If I'm being honest" and some solo inserts in between vocal parts, but it never adds anything that makes me listen closer. For me dodie' s music is set apart from the rest because it is quite open and vulnerable, lyrically and musically (I love "secret for the mad" because it is incredibly reduced and yet so striking). By adding strings that don't have a particularly special role it's adding something that isn't needed, it feels unfocused. Especially towards the end of the song I feel a bit let down, like something was good initially but then developed in an unclear direction that moves away from the impulse it had. A lot of background noise and layers towards the end of the songs feel like a forced climax, like that is the only thing that sets the final chorus apart from the first, it adds on top instead of developing or contrasting the original motif.
dodie is making incredible steps forward with her music career and I'm happy for her. I can imagine that she wants to improve steadily, try new things and use all the tools at her disposal. But by trying to achieve a more complex sound that feels like a production on a bigger level, I feel more disconnected from her music. I personally think that it would benefit from being more clean and reduced to the essentials. dodie has shown that she is very good at hitting that sweet spot where you listen to every little detail because she condenses the essential parts into something beautiful. I know that reducing instrumentation might feel like a step back and i think it's very important to work out what feels good by just doing it, so I'm not discouraging any experimentation. But adding extra layers of strings or similarly inoffensive background noise just because it "might be nice" or "it sounds bigger" feels like the easy way out. Maybe the string parts will become more complex in the future and be used differently, I don't know!
I love a lot of ideas in her songs and I did enjoy listening to Human, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations and that's ok . I'm not saying dodie is a lazy musician who is running out of ideas or anything like that, quite the opposite! Personally I just think that she can get more out of her music by using the instrumentation in a more diverse way to get her beliefs and emotions across.

I highly recommend that you all quit criticizing something that makes others happy. She likes this bun, so let her like it. When I cut my thick hair to a bob it was too thick to wear down. I did bun/ ponytail on the top of my head everyday for like a year when I was waiting for it to grow out and the top layer of my hair is FRAZZLED so it’s damaged. I’ve been doing this since year 7 to make my hair curly when it dries and then started wearing it again last year and everyone said I managed to pull it off and make it look cute lol
okay so I just wrote a huge paragraph and then accidently WENT OF THE PAGE so this is a little half assed sorry about that. Not What I Meant is by far my favourite on the album. Your voices mix SO well together, and the lyrics make my heart hurt (lmao I am not poetic). Arms Unfolding is my second favourite; the music is beautiful as well as the lyrics, even though I can't relate to the story. Monster is a Good Bop, and the music video was so cool! Human is always a beautiful song, and I adore the revamped version. She is something we've all been waiting for and it's finally here! A redone version of She! Our gay hearts are screaming! If I'm Being Honest reminds me of older dodie, which isn't bad it's just really sad lmao. It reminds me of 6/10, which in retrospect isn't that old, but it almost puts me back into that mindset of who I was back then if that makes sense. Back when you first released Burned Out, it's all I would listen to. I do think that the original songs you post on youtube that then make it into an ep have their own sound in each, and I do like the rawness that comes with the original versions (a good example of this would be "Sick Of Losing Soulmates"). However, I really do enjoy the new life you give these songs in the eps. This version of Burned Out seems more sad but hopeful, while the older version seems more angry. Still love both!!
I'd give this ep a 10/10, it's definitely a whole lot more mature than your past eps and honestly I'm really feeling it. A big thank you to you and your team!! You've made a wonderful ep and deserve all the praise! Love you!

So I mean, you can jump in the shower with them, but there's a limit to how much you can actually rinse them out. Unless there are new ways to do that that I don't know about.

I just sat there all excited waiting to know what it would sound like and what meaning it'd hide. by the first note I thought "hey! this is bitter content! I know this song" lol I love it even more now, what can I say! (human) oh dear human! I have a theory! Monster comes first in the albums order and there's a lyric in it that says "guess I'm human no more" but then we have a song that says "I'm just human" & it's like the story started as you or the character in the album leaving a bad situation thinking it took all of you and you're left with nothing but with time you realize that you're just.. well human, owning up to yourself and to your story. and I find that beautiful :) - (she) before this ep came out, I remember you mentioning She and that it's making a return and I'm just so thankful. this song means a lot and I'm just glad I can listen to it wherever I go, whenever especially when I need it the most <3 (if I'm being honest) "flirting's delicious proved to be beneficial for mental health" oh yeah, I can relate to that on a spiritual level, only if it actually worked. I see this song as one of your top masterpieces that won't leave my playlist any time soon! (burned out) I had to take a moment when I found out that it was on the ep and we get to hear a studio version of it. Just thank you! I love that song soo much and I think it was a perfect closure for this little album. dodie never disappoints.

You know what I think? And this is just my opinions and thoughts I may very well be wrong but I think the reason for people not liking it is bc it's new and it's risky and it's different. I personally wouldn't dare to go out with my hair like that bc I'm very anxious and I know it's kinda out of the ordinary so therefore people would look funny at me. However I really really love it!! I think it's so creative and cute!❤❤ And what I love even more is that you have the courage to wear it unlike me. I'd rather kill myself than do what I loved if it was anything that's different. This gives me so much courage and it gives me a small spark of energy and the feeling that I can do what I want I don't care about what others think. I know that spark will be gone by the morning but eventually with enough sparks I will be able to go out of my home not worrying what other people think bc I dress how I want and I have a hairstyle I love! So please please please don't care about the negative comments. You should be able to do what you love and look how you want and when you do you give courage to people who don't dare! And I'm not meaning you should do it for us you should do it for you! You is all that matters, if you love it wear it!! Ultimately it was a good album, but I felt that the production didn’t do it justice. I know it’s kinda indie, but everything sounds very quiet and minimal, and especially for a song like Monster I wish we could have a more vibrant sound. Even She you could’ve put more solid parts to fill out the atmosphere. Butttttttttt I did love listening to it and if I hadn’t found your YouTube channel I don’t know if I would’ve found this type of music, and just be stuck listening to jazz and metal. Thanks. 71 likesI loved quite a few openings and initial impulses in dodie's music. Particularly the opening to "Monster" struck me and I adore the beginning of "If I'm being honest". The thing that would add to the music for me is playing on peoples expectations and trying to make the music more unpredictable. I have listened to dodie's music before and the most predictable thing about her recent releases for me is the instrumentation and how she builds up to the final chorus.
Maybe it's because I also listen to classical music, but for me the use of strings never suprises me or stands out. Yes, there is a use of pizzicato in "If I'm being honest" and some solo inserts in between vocal parts, but it never adds anything that makes me listen closer. For me dodie' s music is set apart from the rest because it is quite open and vulnerable, lyrically and musically (I love "secret for the mad" because it is incredibly reduced and yet so striking).
By adding strings that don't have a particularly special role it's adding something that isn't needed, it feels unfocused. Especially towards the end of the song I feel a bit let down, like something was good initially but then developed in an unclear direction that moves away from the impulse it had. A lot of background noise and layers towards the end of the songs feel like a forced climax, like that is the only thing that sets the final chorus apart from the first, it adds on top instead of developing or contrasting the original motif.
dodie is making incredible steps forward with her music career and I'm happy for her. I can imagine that she wants to improve steadily, try new things and use all the tools at her disposal. But by trying to achieve a more complex sound that feels like a production on a bigger level, I feel more disconnected from her music. I personally think that it would benefit from being more clean and reduced to the essentials. dodie has shown that she is very good at hitting that sweet spot where you listen to every little detail because she condenses the essential parts into something beautiful.
I know that reducing instrumentation might feel like a step back and i think it's very important to work out what feels good by just doing it, so I'm not discouraging any experimentation. But adding extra layers of strings or similarly inoffensive background noise just because it "might be nice" or "it sounds bigger" feels like the easy way out. Maybe the string parts will become more complex in the future and be used differently, I don't know!
I love a lot of ideas in her songs and I did enjoy listening to Human, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations and that's ok . I'm not saying dodie is a lazy musician who is running out of ideas or anything like that, quite the opposite! Personally I just think that she can get more out of her music by using the instrumentation in a more diverse way to get her beliefs and emotions across.

I get what people are saying but I love you with your hair on top of your head, the volume looks good. Maybe if you took more hair? 1 likeNot What I Meant is by far my favourite on the album. Your voices mix SO well together, and the lyrics make my heart hurt (lmao I am not poetic). Arms Unfolding is my second favourite; the music is beautiful as well as the lyrics, even though I can't relate to the story. Monster is a Good Bop, and the music video was so cool! Human is always a beautiful song, and I adore the revamped version. She is something we've all been waiting for and it's finally here! A redone version of She! Our gay hearts are screaming! If I'm Being Honest reminds me of older dodie, which isn't bad it's just really sad lmao. It reminds me of 6/10, which in retrospect isn't that old, but it almost puts me back into that mindset of who I was back then if that makes sense. Back when you first released Burned Out, it's all I would listen to. I do think that the original songs you post on youtube that then make it into an ep have their own sound in each, and I do like the rawness that comes with the original versions (a good example of this would be "Sick Of Losing Soulmates"). However, I really do enjoy the new life you give these songs in the eps. This version of Burned Out seems more sad but hopeful, while the older version seems more angry. Still love both!!
I'd give this ep a 10/10, it's definitely a whole lot more mature than your past eps and honestly I'm really feeling it. A big thank you to you and your team!! You've made a wonderful ep and deserve all the praise! Love you!

If you don't like the bun then you don't like the bun! I'm so tired of bashing everyone who they don't have the same opinion as them. Get over it! Let people have opinions and call people out ONLY when they are ACTUALLY BEING HATEFUL.
