I guess I understand that people might be annoyed that the Mane 6 didn’t put more effort into talking things out with Rainbow Dash, but like, when has that ever worked? Rainbow Dash learns through action, not by being lectured to. The others know this, so they showed Rainbow how she should be acting be leading by example. They weren’t trying to bring Rainbow Dash down, they just wanted to keep her priorities in check and keep her ego from getting the best of her. I think people have the same problem here as they have with 28 Pranks Later, although that one I understand people’s frustration a bit more. They went above and beyond to scare Rainbow Dash and it just seemed excessive to me. But to be fair, you shouldn’t dish out something you can’t take. Rainbow brought it upon herself by not taking the rest of the town’s feelings into consideration when going about her pranks. It’s one of the reasons why I appreciate an episode like Griffon the Brush Off. Pinkie Pie knows how to have fun with pranks without crossing the line, she knows when and with whom those kind of things aren’t appropriate. It’s the kind of consideration for others and self restraint that the writers kind of forget Pinkie should have in episodes like Filli Vanilla and A Friend in Deed, which makes those episodes very frustrating to me.
This is one of the favorite episodes of both my siblings and I at least consider to be above average. I genuinely can’t understand what people dislike about this episode so much.
This episode could have been better if they were able to add a short scene with them trying to talk to RD and her not listening, then keep the rest of the episode practically the same.
The big issue with the episode is the runtime. Talking or action. Since it is a hero episode they went for action. However they use tricks to show advancement of time. They are hard to spot but the angle of the shadows changes and by using calculations you can figure it out that days are going by. Mare do well has been active for a month. And with that months could have past before too and within that time they could have talked to her. In fact you can hear the exhaustion in twilight voice. But haters will ignore the plain as a summer day evidence to slam the episode.
Actually the fact that they didn´t talk to her is beacuse they know her and they knew that it wouldn't work so to teach her a lesson it had to be in a practical way
Arrogant characters are usually at the bottom of my list and Rd was definitely my least favorite character throughout s1-s4 but after tank for the memories, she went up to one of my favorite characters. I still don't like her egotistical side that much but after the character development for her, she's now my second favorite character below aj ^^
I like Spider-Man at least he’s doesn’t have an ego and isn’t arrogant but rather he’s modest, humble and humidity and has pulled off heroic fleets and cares about everyone’s safety and he’s has an iconic costume thus he lets his action and quips speak for themselves.
The stopping carriage is a reference to Spider-Man 2
Pinkie using her Pinkie Sense is a reference to Spider-Man spider sense.
Also when Twlight uses her magic to fix the damage it’s a reference to how Spider-Man uses his webs to catch and fix things.
Granny Smith is like Aunt May since Applejack is Mare Do Well.
When Rainbow Dash says friendly neighborhood it’s Spider-Man’s catch phrase though he doesn’t say his catchphrase that much.
It is an episode that divided the fandom. Some hate it because they don't show them talking while completely ingoring the obvious time advancement which is the other side argument.
Soon this episode comments will explode with haters and defenders. The ones that don't ever watch it because they don't want to poke the hornet nest.
14:29 The episode is self-aware! 17:50 President of you fan-club invite you to praise your arch-rival. Now that's shoving it. We need new heart for Rainbow Dash! PRONTO! 18:16 Probably her, as she referred to as MARE. 18:34 Nice red herring with Twilight and AJ being in the crowd. Although I would add Fluttershy there as well. 20:55 Pinkie, you want me to say that again? Okay, but only because you're so awesomaizing: never stop to be you. 21:21 Again, necessity of an example. For both Watsonian and Doylist reasons.
First of all, a truly cool person doesn't give a crap about being cool how Rainbow Dash always bragged about being awesome and cool made her significantly less awesome and cool also the fellow who called her bedazzling obviously didn't know what that word means the best meaning he found have possibly been referring to is sexy a more literal definition would be she bedazzles things, makes them look pretty and shiny, whatever definition he meant, it sounds more like something that applies more to Rarity than Rainbow.
Probably my least favorite episode of the season But thats not saying I dislike it, I just... Well, I do dislike it, but mainly because it felt like Rainbow's ego was emphasized so heavily it hardly felt like... Well, /Rainbow/.
It's kinda weird how like literally the entire town have no problem with her arrogance except for the M6 yet it's made to be this big deal. Even AJ at the end is like oh yeah dude rubbing your accomplishments in everyponies face aint cool, but again nobody else seemed to mind, from RD's perspective everybody is eager to gather around and absorb her attitude with smiles and adoration adorning their faces. Would have been better if her arrogance was the thing that was destroying her social relationships and her status instead of M6 interjecting to one up her performance as a hero, then we as the audience would have a much more hard time disagreeing with her decision to change her behavior because losing more status will generally be judged as worse than losing less status. If you're somebody who already dislikes her arrogance that might not apply to you but you wouldn't lose anything either because she would still come to the realization that her arrogance was wrong in the end.
That being said I don't find her arrogance offensive and I think it's because she's a female so when I see females being arrogant I find it to be completely non-threatening and actually cute in some way. Maybe if she was a male it would be different and now that I think about it I actually don't care if chicks aren't humble but I do care if other males are humble to the extent that them being humble makes it so that they aren't going around bragging to females and maybe even other males about how good quality they are. Maybe I'm touching on how humility might have evolved as a social behavior, as a way to disadvantage higher status males by making them not communicate information that could increase the odds of them reproducing which has a secondary effect of increasing the lower quality male mating opportunity space. Even an arrogant person applying for a job might be more likely to get it simply because they confidently signal their abilities so the person hiring them buys it. That's a lost opportunity for me to increase my wealth and of course wealth brings females so this could have a fitness effect as well. The evolutionary incentive structures are interesting to consider and seem to make sense. This is part of why I like about pony, it makes me think about shit I probly would never have thought about.
And then you went off on a tangent that I really can't tell if it's sexist or if it's just a gendered opinion. I seriously can't tell, this is the first time my Asperger Syndrome has gotten in my way in a long while.
Tbh, I don't find arrogance threatening in men or women, it just makes people seem like A-holes either way. And the only women who care about how much wealth a guy has are gold diggers. You'll find most don't really care about that kind of thing, especially if they're doing well with their own paid jobs.
But either way, you kinda went off of a random tangent in that second half lol

The big problem is that the other characters overreact to Rainbow's attitude and take a needlessly convoluted and vengeful approach.
