I still play on my Wild World game for DS. Even though the 2005 DS graphics are low resolution when compared to the HD New Horizons game for Switch, the characters all have soul and don't repeat the same 3-4 recycled phrases over and over again.

Honestly, I prefer playing WW over NH. Resetti is such an ass hat and I love every second of it.
That's another thing, too, Nintendo slowly phased out Mr. Resetti these last few iterations of Animal Crossing. I mean, he was made optional in New Leaf and now he has no purpose with NH's new autosave feature.
Kids these days will never know the dread of forgetting to save their game nor will they ever experience the nerve-grating Mr. Resetti popping up in front of your house to lecture you. XD

The only thing better about newer game redesigns like these are the graphics. All of the newer war games are soft and most of them lack immensely in storyline and captivation. The family games that we used to enjoy at all ages are now designed completely around an age group underneath all of the things we've seen before. I want a game that I can laugh at and cry at. I want a game that plunges it's fist into my chest and grabs me by the heart.

Call of Duty actually came back with a nasty realistic campaign with MW 2019. I’m playing it for the first time on realism mode and it’s really intense and almost frightening at times the detail. Also Super Paper Mario even though it’s not as good as the first two has a crazy romance story that me and a lot of others probably shouldn’t have seen. That one still kinda gets to me in a way. Not like shocked. Not that powerful. But it was very mature for that age group.

Nintendo has improved. The first Animal Crossing games were way, WAY darker than today’s. Even if you’re friends with them, villagers would say cruel things to you. I think the old AC got a lot of backlash from their kids being upset from that.
New Horizons? Not so much. OK, some dark elements are still in there, like the infamous “Lazy Villager ‘We live in a world where nothing exists’ speech”. But not as dark as the old games.
I don’t want to curse or anything, but Nintendo’s first Animal Crossing games were damn dark.

To be honest, graphics don't make a game. The gameplay does. Take something like the original Battle for Bikini Bottom. That game doesn't look too hot nowadays, but the gameplay is fantastic. Nowadays, The Last Of Us 2 sure looks pretty, but in my opinion, the game's terribly mediocre.
