Friendship Through The Ages, along with being a very emotional song, especially now, is also a GIGANTIC love letter to the history of music, with each of the Mane Six embodying a different period, as wel as making a reference to a different band/song/album. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it goes thus: Twilight = Classical Music Fluttershy = Opera (?) Rarity = '60s Psychydelia. Her outfit and backdrop is also a reference to the Beattles album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" Rainbow Dash = Punk Rock, and her smashing her guitar is a refernce to Pete Townshend, guitarist for the hard rock band The Who. Applejack = Country Music (obviously) Pinkie Pie = '80s Synth and Pop rock. The scene at the end with them all in the dark, slowly being revealed by the light, is a reference to the music video for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
I had actually forgotten about “friendship through the ages“ and having recently seen the end of the series this hit a lot harder than I was expecting.
It's so fun to see how far music in MLP has grown over time, transitioning into catchy songs that kids can sing along to, to emotional or orchestral masterpieces (that EVERYONE sings along to) At least, that's how I see it ^^
Rarity is 60s and early 70s since she's based on Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band era of The Beatles. Rainbow's 70s and early 80s style Punk; Pinkie's 80s and early 90s pop; AJ's general country, but most likely classic country of the 60s and 70s; Flutter's most likely 60s hippie era. Sunset is the one representing the 2000+ era.
Here is the missing story between Equestria girls 2&3 which is 100% cannon. It's found in a comic book called Anon-a-miss.
Christmas is coming up for Canterlot high and they find out sunset has always been alone for the holidays in Equestria and the human world. The girls meet up secretly to do something about sunset and they decide on to have a slumber party at each of their home leading up to the Christmas party at Applejack. At pinkie home Apple bloom calls to check in and calls applejack an embarrassing nickname. Piggy wiggy. Basically somehow it gets out at school on a website called my stable and the user name is Anon-a-miss. They ingore it. But other that didn't think sunset is truly reform starts to blame her. It doesn't come to a head until rarity's closet of shame is revealed. They dump her. Sunset starts to consider going back, but princess twilight leaves a message. Stay strong and find your family. Just about when sunset was to say forget Anon-a-miss reveals themselves. Yep it is the cmcs. They did it because they were jealous of sunset
BTW: if you have time, you should also react to the "Pony Literal Videos" by LizzieBiz. They are parodying pony songs and by now you have seen all the originals that they cover.
This video was short, but it was still good to see. It's good to see you wanting to go over all the shorts and get the chance to enjoy everything g4 of mlp has to offer.
"Is it just me or do they look different in this?"
The answer to this is yes in many ways. The tech for animation got better as the series went on, so incremental improvements there, but also, only some of the Equestria Girls content is made by the same studio that made the core series. Some other content is made by a wide variety of studios in many different lands. Some emulate the style of the original very closely, others not as much, so if you think they look different, you're probably right, and it was one of the shorts where a different animation studio worked on it.
Also, on "Adagio is Rarity's singing voice": The studio does this a lot. They bring in singers and if they like them, they use them for other characters later on: One of the CMC voices Applebloom's singing voice (ironic given Applebloom's VA is now a bit of a minor youtube star for her singing, check out her Micheal Jackson covers), Sunset Shimmer is Twilight's singing voice.
Rogue Diamond is having some technical issues guys so it probably won't be up today, I apologize!

2 likesFluttershy may ALSO refer so musicals or singer/songwriter ballads, as it reminds me heavily of Sound of Music.
I'm a big retro music guy so I can probably break this down;
5 likesTwilight; 1950s due to formal jazz-inspired ballads and dresses.
Rarity; 1960s due to The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band image.
Fluttershy; 1970s due to the peace movement-inspired setting (though it did begin in the late 1960s).
Pinkie Pie; 1980s due to erratic hair and electronic effects (though her singing does involve the Millennial Whoop that was present in the 2010s).
Rainbow Dash; 1990s due to the repopularisation of Punk and the rise of Alternative Rock.
Applejack; 2000s due to the wave of Country Pop singers.
