This is a pretty awesome work - if i wasn't knee deep in my own violin exam, i'm pretty sure i'd make an extended version of it (conditions forbidding, ofc)
Again though, a marvelous job as usual!
always loving every song released :)
This is just too perfect. Dat cover. Dem lyrics. Sweet Celestia on a segway. You said it all, Replacer. And you sang it, too. Awesomely. Wouldn't expect anything less from you, though.
Keep up the great work!
So, let me get this straight...
One of my favorite pony musicians, doing a cover of a song by one of my all-time favorite musicians...
Yes, I am very, very okay with this.
I'm just sitting here imagining a relatively new fan discover this song and have so many of these references fly completely over their heads ;) There is one thing I've always been confused about, though. The mare 'you' were thinking you were gonna buy, that costs five hundred magic gems -- is that a reference to astronomically expensive plushies, perhaps? This line always got me because the rest of the verse appears to take place in Equestria, rather than the real world, so the alternative interpretation seems rather dark xD
it took me a bit to remember, but I'm pretty sure it was a reference to the Gameloft game which has 'gems' as the ingame currency, and some of the characters cost a lot to get
@replacer Yes! That makes way more sense hahaha; I think I actually did get that reference the first time I listened to this song, but I haven't played the game in so long lol.
Well, knowing that doing anything with this song could be loosely described as 'walking into Mordor,' I wanted to really honour the source material, so I had the dual challenge of getting the rhymes into the same places, and actually saying something meaningful...then I needed to produce it well enough to convey the spirit of the original without sounding like a pale imitation. So I'm really happy to get this kind of feedback ^^
I'm always leery of songs based on Bob Dylan's work, but it appears that there was no need to be in this case. Rather than just make words fit the timing, you actually wrangled the lyrical style. The only thing that felt a little odd is just how close the lyrics at the start are to the original lyrics, but something tells me it would be pretty hard not to keep them so close without breaking the flow.
Hey! This is a generic message to say that this video was posted on Bronies Australia for a weekly music roundup, you might want to check it out! I can't actually link it (stupid YouTube), but just Google search "Bronies Australia", and the music news post should be on the front page. Just thought I'd let you know :D
