Unlike what you said at 1:37, there is another way to delete it: make sure you're logged into OneDrive, make the folder in a place where OneDrive has reign, and then wait for it to give you a 'Unable to sync' error. It can actually rename the folder. The fact that OneDrive has more power than the computer is scary.

Some people don't know the dot thing is from DOS... A single dot is the current folder. Two dots is the previous. Anything more would simply go to previous or try to access the folder/file but it doesn't work, I think.

In 2004 I discovered a way to create a file named .. (2 dots) on Windows XP. I’d soon afterward confirm it to work on NT4 as well. I haven’t yet verified on all Windows NT versions up to this point, but it should work on any NTFS volume.

Its because you cant make folders that have a . in the beginning, as these are considered "protected folders" For example: some folders in AppData/Roaming have a dot in the beginninning, so they are invisible if you dont have some option enabled. to get around this you need name a folder some weird name instead of the ".name" like "\.name" or something like that.
Putting a dot at the start of a filename is just to tell file explorers on Unix systems to hide it (of course they can add a feature to ignore it). Windows uses file attributes instead of that.

Putting a dot at the start of a filename is just to tell file explorers on Unix systems to hide it (of course they can add a feature to ignore it). Windows uses file attributes instead of that.

I wanted to get rid of it though so I right clicked and then Delete (the shield icon was there), and then realized what I had done. Thankfully, It said a program was using this folder. I would feel like an idiot if I actually deleted my entire operating system if Windows didn't have that protection. So, I am really thankful that Windows saved me from being an idiot today.

You can't make files with only dots in the name as they are used to get relative directories.

1 likeI'm not sure if I just made a dire mistake, but I accidentally did 3 periods instead of 2, and it acted half-normal. Sometimes it would behave as normal and boot me back to C:\ but it says in the ... folder, but others it just acts like a normal folder. I tried to test it by putting a copy of Notepad.exe in there, and it doesn't react to ANYTHING. Even if I delete it in an admin CMD, it still says nothing if i check by entering dir. Is it possible to still delete it in windows without flashing a recovery image to a USB stick?
